I am a DIE HARD AM GENERAL Fan As I have had the PRIVILEGE of being an owner of all 3... The H2 was my 1st and my H3 was my 2nd and I now finally have what I've always wanted a 1990 AM GENERAL M998 HUMVEE I've restored it to my favorite body configuration the 4 door Hard Top truck... Did the work myself... Its got 21,000 miles on it and it has the ol 6.2L NA DIESEL with the 3spd trans and 2:73 diffs It seriously makes me so Happy when I'm able to get it out of my garage and take my kids to school in it or drive it to my job or anywhere else... I love the smiles it gives to people's kids when they see it... NOTHING but pure joy and happiness... Its Truly a special special Vehicle UNLIKE most It makes me feel like a kid as I remember wanting one soooo INCREDIBLY bad since I was like 9 or 10 yrs old and here I am 34yrs old with 2 kids of my own and I've just recently officially got my own HUMMER H1... I look at it and still can't believe it at times lol... 🙂 Just Amazing... Anyways to everyone on here who has one of there own I salute you and to those who have the same dream of owning one of their own... I say NEVER EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM... When you finally get 1 it'll be worth your wait... 🙏❤👍🇺🇸st HUMMER... LIKE NOTHING ELSE
There's no negative thing I can say about a Humvee, or better known as HMVV. They saved my life quite a few times over in Afghanistan. Motor was shot all to he11, and tires were blown out. But it turned over and got us out safely. There's truely no vehicle on the market that I believe can stand up to the punishment like the H1. It's what I like to call God with 4 wheel drive.
I believe the prototype H1 at the beginning was in Independence Day It has Humvee mirrors and doors but an H1 brush guard and front bumper Just like one of the "Humvees" in the movie
Oak Productions (Arnold's first HUMMER) was in Independence Day. It is a clone to the one in this first AM General promo video which was built for AM General President, Jim Armor.
I have a lifted 2 dr jeep rubicon on 35's and I know without a doubt a stock H1 will still kick the shit out of my jeep. I'm in the Marines and have driven a lot of basic military H1's like the one in this video, They are indestructible and will bash, crawl, plow, glide over just about anything. If I had the money I'd buy one in a second.
Arnold S. was the person most responsible for there even being a Civilian HUMMER. Arnold's production company in Santa Monica handled much of these early promo videos, if not themselves, then referrals to other production companies.
@kantrzyn if you stick the new duramax and allison into an h1, you get around 600hp and 600lb of torque at a lowered fuel consumption, and that really is a good combo
@kantrzyn We do have caterpillar tracked vehicles like the Vityaz we have multiple models and different brands, I don't know what you qualify as need for such uses but comparing a tracked all terrain utility vehicle to the HMWWV is not a fair comparison because the 4*4 wheeled to the tracks.
the motors are pretty good, they are designed to go below 65-70 mph, so they are plenty good, if you want real power put a cummins engine or duramax in it, youtube "cummins H1 hummer" there are some pretty fast h1 on here, holy shit
@@Capone2525 you're responding to an 11 year old comment and your spelling is about as reliable as a Humvee on the Autobahn, so I can see why you would be offended by reality.
@sharpasadullknife from what I know they civilian is the same, they do change the suspension springs to handle the extra load on the armored humvees, but the civilian version does use runflats just like the military, and has ctis like the military
Awesome video! I remember when the Hummer H1 was offered. Compared to the H2, I find it less than attractive. But I do what's powering it. A 6.5 litre Turbo Detroit Diesel engine. Something the H2 should've been offered with.
I know your comment is pretty old, but they can be had. I got a 97 in damn near perfect condition for less than 30k. The values have been on the rise in the last year or so again, but they can be found.
Sweet video, I have read you and the other guys threads and you both make valuable points. I'm in the market myself for a civi style . I got a couple of buddies that go rock climbing but I would just like to over do it and drive home! They are in jeeps and have to have them towed there and away. I've been looking at them for years, military ones mostly but now I got a son so thats the only reason I'm gonna go for the more cushiony style.
@dereileak A demobbed vehicle in the military is a vehicle that was demobilized for combat use. Meaning it's no longer combat ready. Which doesn't mean it's a bad vehicle. Typically vehicles that go to auction have no more than 50K miles on them, and considering that the standards for vehicle maintenance are higher than anywhere else...they run great. It's just easier to buy a new vehicle instead of having to keep fixing the same one sometimes.
H1>H2&H3 The high clearance fully independent suspension of the H1 has way more clearance than the straight rear axel of the H2 and H3. The H2 and H3 were built off a gmc truck chassis. They were essentially light off roaders, built to be cheaper, that most people used on the street. The H1 with is fully independent suspension in front and rear with 16 inches of ground clearance, was a true off-road machine. Actually, if you compare the price and performance of the H1 to other custom built off roaders that have high clearance IRS (VERY RARE), the H1 is incredibly cheaper, and probably more durable. I've never seen anything else like the H1 factory built. I hope someday they will make another real off road hummer with the IRS and not built off of a gmc truck chassis.
on these beasts, i know that when you want to lock the differentials you have to apply slight brake pressure along with gas. but what about when you want the lockers off? turn the vehcile off? do the same thing you did to turn em on or what?
I love Hummer H1's and ALWAYS will but I'm trying to decide what to buy right now, I am torn between several great off-roaders, Land Rover LR3 or LR4 (with winch and other kit), a Toyota FJ Cruiser (TRD spec with chassis protection and winch) and the Hummer H1. Which one would you buy if you were in my position? and dereileak, about how many MPG do you get from your H1 diesel? Thanks
No, I heard on a news station that a Minivan came at 35mph and hit the bumper. Police showed up and said "Wheres the damage?" The bumper was bent a little. Jeeps are like kids to the hummer, except more civilian.
@alterchristopher sadly thier is no video of this i saw it first hand when i was deployed. Also keep in mind this was one with the extra armor on it. From what i heard everyone was ok they fliped it back over changed the fluides, banged out the dents and put it back to work.
I agree nothing below to hang up but parts can get pricey, and that is why I like my 93 chevy stepside everthing exept the rear drive shaft and axle are below the from all the other important stuff if above the frame.
@toyoracing89 what is a demobbed humvee? like not in use anymore, do they still run good and stuff, because I would consider buying one of those, that would be awesome
@dereileak Yeah, I was the gun truck operator for a convoy of 4 trucks when we were ambushed. When we got to our FOB there were no less than 6 shots that went directly through the hood. And only 1 tire didn't have rounds in it, or holes. People who bash the Humvee to me are the same idiots who wanted to civilize it. Point of, it was built for combat and that's it. Not to get groceries for your wife.
@dereileak May I ask which color this is precisely, please? Im looking for the light tan which appears to be the one in the video that im after but its a little blurry. Do you know a code perhaps? You can buy a brand new Jeep wrangler for 24k that gets better mpg, and is tough. I wish I could find one in the 8-10k range, that would be perfect although kinda out of reason.

this is by far the best hummer video on youtube.
Forget the hummer that driver is badass
I have never had an issue driving in town or parking; the turning radius is surprisingly awesome.
ShastyMcNastey The turning radius on my H2 is terrible. Most of the time you have to back up and turn again
I love this video. No one can beat hummer H1.
Jeep.
DaGerminator2 they each have there uses, I have a jeep cCherokee still I have always loved the h1
dereileak I never understood what was so great about the Cherokee. I like the Wrangler. Hummer is awesome too, but it eats up fuel like no tomorrow.
Austria Ej I'd have a Landrover 110 defender pickup instead much less vulgur.

HELL YEAH! Beats the hell out of those Jeep commercials where they take it on a dirt road with pebbles, and expect you to say WOW! Badass ride.
I'm diggin' the sales music. Not over the top, but capable.
I just bought one from the Gov Surplus..gotta wait two months to clear the paper work.

with any other car you would need careful throttle control and braking but with a hummer you floor it and forget about it its that EZ!!!

15K minimum for a cummins swap. plus I average 12MPG on the street with mine. 17 years young and 131K miles of experience she has.
only problem is you get the street version not the military grade one this one has special rims and suspension and tires
An H1 of any kind is my dream vehicle, ive seen 4 doors and wagons, but I have never seen a civilian single cab H1 in person
There out there... I have pictures of them in person... THEY ARE RARE
