      Also, no mention of Second Hand Lions or 7 Days in Utopia or Sling Blade. He's had a huge body of work, hard to cover everything. But Lonesome Dove should not have been overlooked.

    As a retired Marine, the Great Santini has always stuck with me. I guess I was a bit like the father with my son, but not quite as harsh. It’s hard to switch off from work when you come home. I finally learned to switch off on my drive home. As a Marine, you are required not to accept disorganization which doesn’t mesh very well with kids and a family. The saying goes “If the Corps wanted you to have a family, they would issue you one”. Plus I was always deployed somewhere in the world. I still made mistakes that I have always been sorry for to this day. My kids grew to be great adults though. I don’t hear from them anymore! They all live thousands of miles away in New Zealand. Robert Duvall will always be an acting icon to me. May he enjoy a peaceful rest of his life.😊

      @danaeads919 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      @ms8596 I wouldn't be surprised if the length of the video has an effect on payment. The longer a video is, the more opportunity to insert commercials.
      China had to enact a law preventing mini-series from having more than 40 episodes. Writers were dragging out the dramas to 50, 60 episodes and longer for product placement. I watched one drama and began laughing every time someone thought they were getting a cold because every character would reach for the same product on their desk, coffee table, kitchen and so on. There wasn't one character who didn't get sick for 24-hours.

    • @IRNHYD
      @IRNHYD 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Falling Down was one of the greatest sleeper movies ever made. As a member of the Aerospace work force in Los Angeles at the time, it was especially poignant for me. I had been laid off from McDonnell Douglas a year prior to the films debut.
      I saw an interview years ago about the film. Duvall said that originally, Douglas’ character in the movie was “a normal work-day-guy that was just down on his luck and through a series of unfortunate events, loses it and goes on the rampage depicted in the film. The director had an epiphany and decided to graft in the element of emotional unstability to Douglas character, adding the scenes with his mother, the wife and child being estranged, with a restraining order, etc etc. it makes me wonder what the film would have been like… and if I would have enjoyed more (or less) than the version that was released.

    I can't imagine what would have possibly made Robert Duvall think he should be paid the same amount as Al Pacino in Godfather III. The entire trilogy was essentially about Michael Corleone, and Pacino played him incredibly well. Duvall did a decent job of playing Tom Hagen, but Hagen was a far more minor character. The two roles were nowhere near in the same league.

    • @IRNHYD
      @IRNHYD 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It had nothing to do with the roles each of them played in the Godfather.., although I think you’re minimalizing the importance of Duvall’s character. Pacino had just made his first film debut the year prior to his being cast as Michael in the Godfather. Duvall on the other hand, had been in a slew of films, starting with the outstanding To Kill A Mockingbird a decade prior. As such Duvall was a proven veteran, well known talent and his name being on the film drew audiences, as did the other veterans of the cast, not to mention Marlon Brando.
      The only reason that Pacino was chosen for the role of Michael is that Coppola insisted on casting Pacino in the role. The studio had seen James Caan’s screen test for Sonny and while He had already been given that role by Coppola, the studio actually liked Caan’s test enough to re-cast him as Michael. It was Coppola who stood his ground and insisted that the role of Michael be given to Pacino. The studio’s attempted intervention probably had a lot to do with the fact that Pacino was largely unknown and unproven as a leading man. Coppola was obviously right in his conviction, as Pacino’s portrayal was sublime.
      But to the point, Duvall was an established veteran and wanted his due. I don’t think that He asked for too much, considering. Many primadonna actors of the time (think Paul Newman, Steve McQueen) would have demanded far more.

    I am a little in disbelief of this when it comes to his only 1 year of service in the military. When most men had either 2 or 3 years at this time. Why did he only serve 1 year? Was it because of his dad's time of service and pull in Washington? It makes me question it for sure.
