⭐He was born into one of the most talented families in music history. He had everything. Beauty, talent, and wealth. Yet, his young and happy heart wasn’t ready to face the dark side of show business and was ultimately consumed by addiction, depression, and heartache.

I remember when he came out and started singing, but he was so not sure of himself. It's so sad. It's so ironic that only Barry survives everyone. I was there. Andy was a good performer. He never thought he was as good as his brothers. Drinking and drugs did him in. It did to a lot of rock stars. Depression is a real disease. People just didn't know. He needed anti depressants not "snap out of it".

A pampered childhood most of the time ends up like this. He never had to struggle for anything and near the end of his life when he did he had panic attacks and hid away and drank and drugged himself to death. In the end, money, fame and beautiful women can't buy or bring you happiness and help your bedeviled mind.

@@LorraineGrant Video reveals that he did not receive certain, basic discipline as a child. Parents over-indulged him. Even if you can you don’t showboat by having your kid driven to school by a chauffeur on a luxury Rolls Royce. You don’t let your kid drop out of school at 13. There is no discipline of the lower faculties. That sets one up for overindulgence - be it food, drink, sex, gambling - could be anythjng and whatever a given person is vulnerable to. Sure. He could have been addicted to alcohol , regardless of how he was raised . But there is more than one factor here.

Addiction isn't an accident. It's a choice. Nobody forces you to snort line after line of cocaine. Nobody ties you up and force feeds you alcohol. It is indeed a sad thing when people become addicts, but we can't just wipe away their personal agency and accountability for their choices. There is usually a much deeper underlying issue that addiction is tasked to mask, as referenced by his brother saying the problem was much deeper. The most potent solution to any addiction is a spiritual one, in whatever form it may take.

@@celestialscripture It starts out as a choice. Once it has become an addiction, people need the drug to function normally. And yes, you are absolutely right: There are underlying issues that cause people to go down that path. Dulling a psychological pain or a restlessness that just won't go away. It's also typical that addiction starts during adolescence/early teens. We think we are so strong and mature at that age, when we really are just kids and at our most vulnerable. Life's great and tragic irony!

I did not follow the career of Andy Gibb. I could recognize his big hits, and that was about it. Then one night when I was in college, his song "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" was blasting so loud in a dream that it woke me up. The dream quickly evaporated and I realized all around was quiet, but I got up anyway to look out the bedroom window to see if anybody was outside that might have been making that racket. Nope. In a little while a car came slowly up the street, tossing the Los Angeles Times out for its delivery customers, but there was no music. I went back to sleep.
In the morning I went off to my classes and was gone until dinner time. As I walked past the open door of one of my housemates' rooms on the way to mine, I heard that same song coming from his television. Oh, weird. What a strange coincidence, I thought.
Finally that night, I had my own telly on, tuned to the 9 or 10 pm news broadcast on the Spanish-language station, and ... there was that song again. I looked up quickly from what I was working on, thinking "What the hey?", and saw an Andy Gibb performance clip with the title "LUTO" at the bottom as the news went to a commercial break. "Luto" is Spanish for "sorrow", so I realized what had happened. But I never figured out why that song SO invaded and disrupted my sleep less than 24 hours earlier.

I was a little kid and had the biggest crush on him after I saw him on TV. I wrote, I ❤️ Andy all over my school notebook, which of course my dad saw and said who is this Andy? His story is sad. I imagine a very long book could be written about all the performers who have had drug problems. Might be easier to say who hasn't.

Absolutely positively true story..In the 80's ...83/84/85 I worked at the Gulf gas station on key Biscayne just past the Miami Seaquarium ..I would pump gas for the wealthy people that lived there and the skinny older Gibb brother would come in regularly..he was always nice to me and always left me a tip..👍

As a very young girl who adored ALL his songs, I remember thinking of what a Gentle person he must be. That he probably had such a sweet kind life. I sensed an innocence there but perhaps I was projecting on the innocence lost in my own childhood.
I grew up in a house of addiction. Little did I know that Andy, too was immersed. However, not changing the effect his music had on my delicate heart and still does.
