    Your videos are great. I like how you include everything, even the removing of the old gaskets (When needed). But the best thing you do for me is, NO DARN MUSIC! It is so hard for people that are hard of hearing to hear/understand when peoples voices are competing with noise and music. Yours is very clear because of the quiet enviornment ! THANK YOU!

    This girl is following along with all of these Rebel videos! I took a 2012 Rebel 250 that had been sitting in a backyard covered in weeds and vines all the way to giving me my first miles on a motorcycle. Thanks to you she has been revived and is performing fantastically! Not bad for a $500 bike and a little sweat equity! 👍🏻

    I am just about to change mine on my Rebel for the first time since I bought it. It a 1999 with 2000 miles .
    This was very helpful and very well explained and shown . Hoping the oil screen is ok for a while yet with such low milage . I am in the UK and there are very few of these bikes around over here. The bike had not been used for many years so I had to fit a new fuel tank and clean the carb . Runs sweet now . I have fitted front crash bars and panniers to it . Love the bike . Regards and thanks from Thomas in UK .

      Thank you! and I am glad you found the video helpful. Where did you get the new tank for it? Is it an original Honda tank, or one of the aftermarket ones from Amazon?

    • @ry491

      @@TheFixitShed It's one of those Chinese tanks . I ordered it from the USA . Some say they are poor quality but it seems fine and is the right colour . I do intend to clean out the original and line it and keep it as spare . I also replaced the petcock . Other than the rust in tank , the bike was mint . Cheers .

    I recommend Castrol Actevo 20w50 semi synthetic motorcycle oil. Specifically 20w50. The Rebel's engine dates back to the mid '70s, and was designed for heavier oil. 10w30 will not provide proper protection for the engine, especially the crank and con rod bearings. It says 10w30 because of the EPA. I also recommend changing it every 1000 miles. The little Rebel engine is hard on oil, especially when run at highway speeds. I know someone who has over 100,000 miles on a Rebel 250. Original engine, never been apart. He uses 20w50 and changes it every 1000 miles. Yes, that would be 10000 oil changes. I have a see through plastic bottle marked for the exact amount of oil to put in the engine, so I don't have to measure it every time. I just fill up the bottle to the mark and pour it all in.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. The manual shows the ambient air temperature ranges for 10w30, 10w40, 20w40? and 20w50. I don't remember why I picked 10w30, but looking at that chart, it doesn't look like it was the best choice. The 20w50 looks suitable for the temps I ride in. I do only ride about 15 miles per day (7 or 8 miles each way) and on roads with a 45 mph speed limit, so I don't really strain the engine. I should be ok for now, but I can see that switching over to the 20w50 might be a good idea. I will get some for the oil change I am going to do on the 2004 (purple flames) I picked up since I don't indend to keep it, and I don't know how it will be driven. I do change every 1000 miles.

      @@TheFixitShed I live near Phoenix, AZ, where it gets super hot in the summer. I am 63, and had over 50 motorcycles since age 16. Some have been 2 strokes. But I have always used 20w50 in the 4 strokes. I have had 4 Rebel 250s, I still have a 2016 (last year) and I'm keeping this one. I recently had a right knee replacement, and I'm going to have problems getting my leg over the seat on larger bikes. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 that I have put 128,000 miles on, almost all highway, and have always used 20w50, changed every 3000 miles.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mistert7615 10w-40 is fine as long as it is specifically for motorcycles. Automotive oils have additives than can make motorcycle clutches slip. There is a chart in the owners manual that shows you what oil to use in what temps. 10w-30 should be reserved vor cold weather. 10w40 and 20w50 are better for the time of year when most people ride..

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, there are a bunch of tubes down there. The one with the duck bill valve is a drain for the air box. The other hoses are drain/vent for carb, vent for battery, vent for gas tank... I think that's it.

      @The Fixit Shed thank you! I had gas leaking out of one of them and had never noticed that before. Likely from the gas vent valve. I'm a novice and thought I had rotten or disconnected lines.

    Do you recommend this bike for a 5’10” 150lb older guy that’s looking a good bike to just cruise the neighborhood? Recommend over a Yamaha V-Star 250? Thanks.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this would be an excellent bike for your purpose. It might feel a little cramped on longer rides, but for just cruising around, it should be fine. I am 5'7" and find it comfortable for my commute and doing some running around. I have always had Hondas, so it is hard for me to compare to the Yamaha. Hondas are good quality. reliable bikes if they are taken care of.

      @@DH-mf2lv I am going to be changing the oil in mine every 1000 miles. That will probably be 2x per year, if I keep riding it like I have been. Lots of variables on price, but probably around $3000, give or take $500, for what you describe.

    • @DH-mf2lv
      @DH-mf2lv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is asking $4,000 which I know it’s a lot of money but it is museum quality. If I do purchase, I am thinking about riding a few years then donate to Barber’s Museum. It’s that nice. What’s your thoughts? How many videos do you have related to a 250 Rebel? Thanks.

      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DH-mf2lv I have 12 or 13 videos with my Rebel. I was going by prices in my local area. It could be different where you are. There is a 2016 not far from me that has 4.7 miles (yes, less than 5. Not 4.7k), and they are asking $3000. Also, there are 3 2015 Rebels priced 3000, 3500, and 4000. All with low mileage. A couple with more (but still low) mileage around 2500. 4k is not unreasonable, but at the top of the scale
