RESTORING A KENWORTH TWIN STEER TRUCK (and making it roadworthy)

- The Kenworth Restoration truck continues as we fit the tray to the chassis, measure it up and the remove for modifications. I will cut out some steel cross members from the flatbed tray and prepare for welding in more steel to suit the truck. The exhaust is removed for some cut and shut welding work to gain more chassis room.

Hi everyone, video is late again but again, it’s all we could do. I tried to get enough content from the weekends work on it with most jobs being long and repetitive and didn’t make for a lot of variety. Next week maybe a video of something else I’ve received recently while we complete those long repetitive jobs on this truck.
There no such thing As late on u tube, just put vids out wen and as u can. Not being regular hurts the algorithm but as far as ur viewers/fans r concerned u do you and release wen u can. So glad ur not just slapn the tray on im over seeing conversion where they dont change the tie down rails to suit the new wheel base just that alone even if its a million dollar show truck and it had it it still look so wrong it will wreck the entire look of the build
No worries little brother alls well great to watch the Ole gal coming along say hi to everyone for me
Piss with the cock you’ve got!
Had me rolling 😂😂😂
hey Steve as ive said to u before dont feel pressured to upload us subbies will wait for it, ❤ ya work mate from up the rd in Newi
Enjoying the K100 8x4 resto, love the sound of the 400 Cummins. The truck looks to be pretty much complete so hopefully a straight forward resto.
keep up the good content, I look forward to each video.
Hi Jimmy I’m glad you like it. Not a full resto mate but enough to tidy her up and get it on the road
3,400 views only 550 likes???? comeon ppl if ya like it enough to watch it then give Steve a thumbs up
It’s a hard game Chris. Thank you mate
@@stevesplacedownunder hard game cause of 💩 players 😂
keep up the good work mate i wish i knew half of what u know
@@Golden-dog88 yeah mate but it is what it is. I’m glad you enjoy anyway
Hi steve good go see the old gal getting some tlc . Cheers mate
Hi Peter. Yeah mate it’s about time I did something with it
Good job bud looking good
Thanks Alex
Hey up mate had to wait 15 minutes to watch this as i don't normally have a refreshment till midday
Hi John. Well mate I’m glad it all worked out in the end🤣
G'day Steve. Luck was on your side with that wiring mate. You've have to jag a winner some times. Loving the rolling episode format cobber. Keep them coming mate.🤠
Thanks Darryl. She’s coming along good mate. No real dramas, it’s just time that might get us in the end. Won’t be through lack of trying though mate
Video definitely wasn't late! And better late than never anyway. I'd love to get my hands on that truck. Love watching the progress.
Hi mate I’m glad you liked it. Thank you. Plenty more to come
It is an amazingly clean truck. I don’t know about you but wiring is one of my least favorite things to repair. One other thing, when you said you were going to the bottle shop it once again brought to light how once being there watching your videos is different than other channels because when you mention certain things I know where you are going or doing.
Yeah it is mate. I still can’t believe that you were over here. It was a good time for me
Few old 202s or the like sitting there, you have all the toys 👌🏿
2x 173s and a 186 mate. Once the truck is done I will have a few laid back Saturdays and try and get one going
All good Steve, good to see ya using it. Thanks for the mention. Cheers mate. 🍻
I use it a lot mate yes. Muchly appreciated
Coming along mate, some of those wiring harnesses can be a real rats nest
Yeah over the years they end up that way mate
Watch out for the Kenworth installed cable ties they go through special training at the factory to cut them on a angle so they really rip through your skin
Most mobs that cut cable toes do the same thing mate. Know exactly what you mean
A full bottle of beer 🍻 lost mate I feel your pian Steve it will take time but eventually the pain will ease mate 😂😂
Steve should have a couple of shots of scotch to help get over the pain😂
Yeah mate I wasn’t overly impressed 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Steve.. I'm Chris from the UK, I've just subscribed to your channel after watching one of your videos on the Albion tipper witch popped up on my page. I can't believe that you got that truck for free when there are lads in the UK that would give very good money for it..
With the wiring, I'd say a lot of the unknown wires to the back could have been for work lights and the one taped into the reverse wire could have been a trigger wire for extra reverse lights.. The blue wire in the UK would be for fog lights..
Hi Chris. Apologies for the late reply mate. It takes a lot to get through all the comments. I very much welcome your subscription, thank you. The Albion was a gift, and to this day I still can’t believe it. I still use it. It was given to me because they aren’t worth much here and he didn’t want to see it pulled apart or wrecked.
The wiring I’d say was for a trailer plug I’d say, as Kenworth ran a separate circuit for the trailer. Just what I’m thinking mate. Could be wrong
Hey Steve ! Nice work on the tray. That sure is a beautiful yard and toy shed. You ever get a big blow so you worried about the wind lifting that canopy ? Cheers Mate 🍺🤛😎👍
Thank you mate. It was built with the wind in mind. Very staring and in the ground a long way
Jez I hate electrics with a passion, they always bugger me up mate so hats off to you. Great content Steve, old girls coming along nicely
Thank you mate.
Oh that wiring, defiantly the wrong end of the stick by the look of it. Always good to see it being sorted properly, specially when it's someone else doing it... lol At least they used insulation tape to make a pigs ear of it and not Sellotape or the sticky part of band aids plasters. Looking forward to the paint.
Yeah John I’m fairly happy with the wiring at this stage. I went through and cut a lot of the old bodgy stuff that went nowhere out of it which made it much nicer.
Good to see you work on any of your projects. That 8 wheel ACCO would compliment this one nicely.
I hope to be able to work a the ACCO mate. 8d love too
Steve, Matty from Matty’s Workshop gave you such a big rap, I’ve come over to your channel. Stay safe.
Hi mate that’s very nice of him. Good bloke Matty, we speak a bit. Thanks for having a look
Learned a bunch here mate ! Electrics are not my strong suit . They leave me scratching my head a lot . The truck is coming along. Thanks 🌵
They leave me scratching too Scott if it gets to technical mate
Its so funny how us aussies all call a chassis different. You say it like shazzi I say it like shassi then others say chazzi or chassi. Just a tidbit i noticed wen u said it then the americans say it like chassis but say it 10 dif ways also. People love using the word it just amazes me how many dif ways of saying it there are what a word lol😂😂😂
Cheers from Chicago, Illinois. Another old Steve former mechanic checking in on the youngsters always look forward to your content. Cheers don’t forget to have a couple cold frosty ones.
Hi Steve. It’s a pleasure to have you watch from over there mate. There were plenty consumed in doing this video 🤣
@@stevesplacedownunder So very happy for your response, as a retired auto light truck mechanic I truly understand your efforts and hope your shop restocks soon as I would love to purchase a hoodie when it in stock again 😊
right, no beer but got me a tea. now to settle into it. cheers mate
Not the same mate but hopefully you can still enjoy
Top video like always
Thank you Rodney 🙏
hi Steve and family and your dad. all them dam wires glad you know how to sort it all out great video as all ways mate good night from south west Victoria
Hi John thanks for watching mate. Yeah the wires are fairly basic when you get your head around it. Still fiddly though
Great stuff cobber, hope it all pans out 👍
Hi mate. Yeah I hope so. Seems to be so far
Nice old truck
Thanks mate
Hi Steve, I don't envy you trying to sort out that wiring. It looks like wires have been added and deleted over the years as circumstances dictated over the years. There is know way of knowing what is needed or not until you cut one that is bypassing a short and the colour doesn't match. You know as well as I do a problem occurs and has to be fixed straight away with what's on hand to get back on the road.
Hi mate. Yes it can be a big task. Not knowing what’s been bypassed as you say is the biggest problem. So far I’ve been fairly lucky with the wires
Thanks
This is very much appreciated mate. Thank you. I’m only just getting to the comments now, there’s so many. Only one superthanks though🙏🙏🙏. Sorry for late response
Hi mate, this rustoration is turning out mint.🍺
It looks like some Landy owner wiring efforts that you've done well fixing.😂
I'm guessing whoever cut the "90" before you was well fed on brown snacks!.🤣
Keep your chin up.👍🏻
Gday mate. Yeah it’s all working out well at the moment. Anything this old has always been tampered with over the years
Thank for the explanation about the merits of both trays Steve, makes sense now 🙂
My pleasure mate
Gday Steve, I reckon you got lucky there with that wiring, nothing worse trying to chase problems in an old harness, really there’s not a lot to do considering now mate, top job, cheers
Thanks Matty. Yes it made the job better indeed. A lot gets added to these old jiggers as you know over the years. Stuff gets bypassed then harder to work out
Love the videos mate. But i find in your last few episodes the video glitches about once each second.
Let it load properly mate. Being 4K it sometimes does it.
Hi Steve. Would it maybe of had sidelights on the old try? Could they be the spare wires? Enjoying the series. Have a good week. Marc.
Hi Marc. It could be mate or could be another loom for a trailer plug? Not sure
I think this would have been an old hook truck. One steel is a big steel recycler.
Yes mate it was exactly that
kool Steve keep up the gr8 work As most people would know there's a bit more to it then just clicking the start button & filming, any of them red motors 186 virgins!!! if so they worth a quite few buckssssss now may be ya should slip em under cover, not that a really care as i run blue blood
Hi mate yes there is a lot in it indeed. Yes the reds are 2x173s and a 186. I know they should be inside but were outside when I got them. Once the truck is done I will video getting one going. I’m Ford too mate
@@stevesplacedownunder kool mat👍👍👍👍👍👍e
Another awesome video Steve. I was never a fan of the Black Cummins engine but this one sounds sweet. Have you considered running a horizontal exhaust just behind and under the bullbar (similar to airport fuel trucks) or under the tray as opposed to the vertical one? Not sure if this would pass a roadworthy but just an idea. Those extra wires at the rear could be for a reverse camera maybe or reverse buzzer?
Hi mate thank you. They go really well. I haven’t considered it no. If it was originally under the front that’s where I would put it. I liked that look on tankers. The wires would have been for a trailer plug the more I think about it. Kenworth ran a separate circuit for the trailer
With the exhast would it be a worth putting it to the other side and have the air intake on the center. You should be able to get it closer by the looks. Just a thought.
We have spoken about it mate. I’m going to see if what I’m doing works, then make those decisions I think.
@@stevesplacedownunder Good luck with the project mate, been engoying the rebuild.
@1toonhead thank you mate. Glad you like it
Love the series il b watching u now ive found u. Im looking for room and board or just a room in return for labour and maintenance on a farm something long term im 43 hard working so if u have any farmer mates or u viewers reading this im very good with my hands jack of all trades anyone interested drop a comment if steve doesn't mind. Thankyou and godbless🙏🙏🙏
Where are you located mate?
It's coming together nicely. Is swapping the air intake and exhaust an option to get more spce for the deck? Over here the some T Lines were set up that way.
It is an option yes mate. At this stage I will see how it turns out with what we’re doing before I make any decisions
Hi mate, could the other wires further up the chassis have been for clearance lights on the original tray?
They could be mate. Could be another loom for a trailer plug too. Not really sure
Mount the stack on the drivers side on the headboard???
It’s possible mate. I didn’t really want to move it but will see how it works first
Hi Steve, great video as always, as regards the exhaust pipe can you not swop the air intake and exhaust over? The exhaust too the right as it starts that side and air intake to left as it starts in middle? Keep up the good work. MarkUK
Thank you mate. No I wouldn’t swap it, it’s original how it is and the air cleaner is mounted off the chassis. Different holes on the cab too for both
Usta love VB cans mouth full top im up Green Ginger wine fuck yeah make ya good & strong no more done my share HA HA HA 20 yrs dry shiiiiiiiit no fun no more
You had a good time while it was happening I’m sure Ron. I’ve seen other blokes do the same thing
That's one shitty looking harness!
Shes gonna be sweet man! What about running the exhaust under the gearbox and back up to save yourself with the tray?
I could do that. We have spoken about it
