I love how those old Cummins sound when they are cold (and warmed up of course) but that lopping is awesome. I have a an old 359 with a 400 Cummins (855) and it sounds similar when it starts cold, without that SC whine, of course. Thanks for the video, matey

I’m constantly amazed how close our Australian cousins are to how we are here in the US. Especially the farmers. My grandfather ran an A4T-1600 diesel for decades. 585 engine. Had a blown head gasket once, a cam replacement, and snapped one axle. Not huge horsepower, but could lug like a bigger tractor. We have three Versatiles, and they could outpull it, but I still thought it was a pretty cool tractor. I believe the people that have it now still use it. Never saw a supercharged Cummins before. Ours are all turbocharged.

Your comment was an interesting read.
There's a few videos of supercharged Cummins engines including a 5.9 on YT.

      @@thevox1075
From what I've read about them one main advantage of the supercharger is lack of turbo lag.
You can also change pulleys to increase boost whereas a turbo, with it's wastegate fully open can only produce a certain amount of boost due to impeller size. Then you need to increase the size and/or number of turbos.
One big disadvantage of superchargers are they take more horsepower to drive them than exhaust gas on an impeller.
I think they're also more expensive to manufacture than a turbo.
      There's probably a lot more I'm missing.
Back in that era supercharger knowledge and parts were more common than turbos. By the 30s most supercharger development peaked.
One good example is the Rolls Royce and Packard built Merlin V12. 🇺🇸🤝🏻🇬🇧
Turbocharging and Supercharging by Alan Allard is worth a read too.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge can add to the discussion.

Thought I was going to need a new pair of pants both times.
p.s.. I have never been around one but a lot of old timers say not to rev those supercharged engines real hard.. it would tend to break the drive off the supercharger.. it was worse on those that had other components ran off the back of the supercharger drive.
