It's good to see the comment sections open. New Zealand should be a country that stands by free speech. Even if that speech is stuff we don't like. Without free speech and a fair democracy we can hardly call ourselves a great nation.

Increasing low paid work through 'fair pay' laws leads to some unskilled workers with jobs getting paid more. Official unemployment is low but the not in work number is high. The unemployed are now counted on other lists such as long term sick. In the UK more than 50% of the 2.3 million long term sick have either anxiety, nerves or depression as their diagnosis. I don't know if the numbers for NZ are available.
Either way it doesn't matter. If the cost of employing goes up there will be less employing behaviour. The only way this could work would be if NZ employers are making huge profits. Then increasing minimum wage would not lead to unemployment but would lead to a reallocation from fat cats to employers. But this is not the world we live in. If a company has massive profits other companies come in with lower prices and still make a profit. This is how competition works. Then employees can use their wages to but cheaper goods. i.e. they get richer despite not having a nominal pay rise. This is why the poor now have smart phones and access to the wntire world of knowledge via the internet. The poorest person in NZ today is, in many ways, richer than the Rockerfeller of 100 years ago. Of course, if you just look at pay rates this gets lost.@@AnthonyFlack

Given that we will still be using fossil fuels for some time to come (even based on the Greens wildest forecasts), it is surely better that we extract them in NZ, refine them in NZ and use them in NZ rather than dragging them around the Pacific for our consumption. In addition, we gain the security of our energy supply and we can monitor the industry within NZ rather than accept however they are sourcing the fossil fuels overseas.
Also I note that due to our limited gas production, Huntly was forced to use Coal (imported from Indonesia) last year, it would surely be cleaner and greener to secure our gas supply from NZ than use the imported coal?

    I wanted to see Chloe

2:start a business and be liable for wages and all employees benefits
3: Have children and let them be exposed to sex talks at school.

@@chrisselkirk4330Good one Chris, did the other boys in the treehouse high five you and tell you that your joke totally burned that dumb girl...?

Is it weird for you that you have a list of demands for another person's life..? That's objectively weird yo. Besides, just because National leaders look after only themselves in the private sector before getting into politics, doesn't mean everyone has to..

I think it’s laughable when you close comments on ballhead and senile Winnie stories, and yet open them on intelligent green discussion
