    Hi Lauren! I'm a member and am enjoying myself completely! One suggestion. I may be alone on this but when you're teaching these beginner songs and their related strumming patterns, I would find it helpful if, before you begin singing, you would demonstrate the strumming pattern a time or two without the vocals. Once you begin singing I find it difficult to "listen through you" to pick up the strumming pattern. Maybe it's a "me problem" but I'd find that change very helpful. Thanks for listening!

    I love John Denver, Lauren. Taught myself to play chords on an inexpensive guitar, then bought a Takamine acoustic in 1975. One of my first song books was John Denver and I still have it and my Takamine. Love this, Country Roads, Annie’s Song and Grandma’s Feather Bed (never released a single, but so much fun)!

    I LOVE John Denver and this was one of his best! All I need now is a capo and I can play this, so until I get one I can still practice playing the regular open chords. Great lesson Lauren, it is thrilling to learn these songs I grew up with and still popular today; you make it so easy to learn! TWO THUMBS UP God bless! (BTW even w a cold your voice sounds great!)

    Lauren, I’m a 62 year young man who has played the drums and percussion instruments since the age of 16. I decided to pick up the guitar and try my hand at it. I have found that I am absolutely terrible at it! I have short stubby fingers and really have no clue how to play this awesome instrument! I’m hoping you will be able to help me break through and master this thing. Heeeeeeere we go! 😎

      I started at 67 with similar hands but noticed it is more about having agile and flexible hands. There are a few stretched that are still a problem but I've found other chord shapes. Do learn barre chords.

    Over many years I have learned many cords . I find that a B 7 with an E and A major go very well together . A lot of modern music tends to use the progression ; C ,G Am and F Major . I just have to convince my wrist . lol.

    Ah this is such a beautiful song ..takes me back to my trip across the states in 1980,when I stopped in Denver Colorado and took a spin up into the Rockies.
    So I m definitely off to learn this classic song ASAP.
    Im not sure I will be able to hit high notes with capo 2nd,so maybe I should just do it with out the capo.
    Don't suppose you have a copy of the lyrics and chords handy?
    Ps when you coming over to visit our Rockies in the world famous Connemara national park, just an hours drive from my house here on Galway.

    • @LaurenBateman

    I really like your videos. Even if the song isn't on my list, your energy and style make them worth watching. One thing I wonder is how it's accepted to change the names of the notes when using a capo. The chord shape is what you say, but it's different from the actual notes and chords.

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are different. It's why we say it's an A chord relative to the capo.

    • @jeramiedutcher6720
      @jeramiedutcher6720 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LaurenBateman Disagreeing with the capo terms was what got me to break out of open chords by focusing on barre chords. The fake of it made the fretboard real.

I am curious do you have the chords on pdf for each song you teach so i can put it all together ? Not sure if the sheet music has the same nomenclature as you are presenting.. If you want to play what Fenver actually plays, you need to change how you’ve tuned your guitar.
    Drop the lowest/thickest string (the bottom E) down a full tone to D
    That’s the key to capturing the extra magic of this song.

  • @MikeVinsel
    @MikeVinsel ปีที่แล้ว +1

    do you know if there is a way to play the intro to this song without the 'drop d' tuning?

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, you could play it regular tuning. Won’t have as dark of a sound but it will work.

    According to several sites, the bpm for this song is insanely slow and boring at 82 bpm. Am I missing something here?… because I didn’t realize this til I got a metronome and the song sounds ridiculous at 82 bpm. Very confused.
