- A look at Sega retro gaming on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
A few notes about this episode.
1. Most of the games here are well below $20, with many on sale at times for a few bucks.
2. Shenmue 1&2 Collection is on the Xbox One, but I wanted to cover that elsewhere.
3. In my experience, the online multiplayer in the Sega Vintage Collection is much better than in the Sega Genesis Collection.
4. Panzer Dragoon Orta is $9.99 on Xbox Live.
5. Sega Rally 3 appeared on the Xbox 360 and was delisted as well. I unfortunately do not own it.
6. Xmas Nights is included in Nights for the 360 as an unlockable.

The dreamcast was so amazing, heck even 20 years later I still play my dreamcast, and my love for sega has never faded. Thanks Sega Lord X you're enthusiasm about Sega is contagious !
Same here, it's the only retro console I frequently boot up. And I think it has to do with the wonderful library of pickup 'n play games... I still fantasize about picking up dreamcast development, but being a single developer I realize it would be really hard to write something truly impressive for it.
My love for Sega has increased.
Now if Sega would finally release their arcade catalog on the current consoles! I also want to see a Thunderforce collection!
These games are why I finally bought an Xbox One last year. I'll always love classic SEGA ❤️
It's one of the reasons why I support the Xbox platform. Backwards compatibility matters to me, and I'll be behind the company doing it right.
@@SegaLordX You should look into the Nintendo Switch. the same Sega Genesis Classics plus you can get original Phantasy Star with some remastered tidbits. bonus is you can be just as mobile as the NOMAD!!

Daytona looks stellar especially on Xbox Series X
One reason why I love xbox is because my favorite brand sega sorta lives on through them, and great titles on ps4 as well.
One big reason I still even mess with my Xbox One is because of its BC support. It's made such a difference for me since it was added.

Same here!The pretty damn LARGE amount of SATURN & DREAMCAST games(I’ve clocked & bought around 40 games that I had previously owned on my SATURN & DREAMCAST)from XBLA makes the 360 one of my favourite consoles ever,along with both SEGA consoles mentioned,plus the huge amount of games(over 40)on SEGA Megadrive’s Ultimate Collection for the 360 turns it into the greatest SEGA console that SEGA never manufactured
I'd love to see a complete Panzer Dragoon collection that included all three Saturn releases and Orta. Especially considering how high the prices for Saga are these days!
And while they're at it they might as well go with a little official NA Policenauts release and a remaster of Snatcher! We can dream right?? ;D
I think it would be a massive seller if Sega made a Panzer HD reissue package. It'd need some TLC to be complete, but I know many, many people who'd buy it day 1.
To my knowledge the source code on Saga might be an issue, but we’ll see!
The Daytona port is the port I'd been waiting for since the Saturn. It's amazing. Especially with a racing wheel setup.

The most underrated must have game from SEGA that never saw a release was Scud Race, also known as Super GT. Sega should have released the Arcade version Scud Race for Xbox One with some additions like online multiplayer, additional tracks and cars. Even today (like Daytona USA) it still looks beautiful running on SEGA's model 3 arcade board.
Good to see another video from one of my favourite youtubers.
Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, and the rumours of a Panzer Dragoon Azel HD version that sadly never arrived, probably had more to do with me choosing a 360 over PS3 than anything else except Halo and Project Gotham 3 (aka Metropolis Street Racer 4.)
Virtua Fighter 2 is probably still to this day the 3rd best 3D beat-em-up ever made, after VF4 and VF5 (VF3 just never felt as right for some reason I have never been able to put my finger on.) It is also available as a perfect arcade conversion in one of the Yakuza games on PS3, and as those games are definitely worth owning on their own merits, so it's basically free. Nothing Tekken has ever done even comes close to the amount of skill and depth contained in Virtua Fighter 1 even. Only Dead or Alive (which was based off a similar game engine on Sega hardware to start out with) even comes close, but the reliance reversals make it too hit and miss especially on higher difficulties (and its reliance on 'breast physics' make it a little too sleazy.)
Yet again, another awesome video buddy. Unlike a lot of retro youtubers you actually know about the games your talking about. Have you considered doing a video on the Sega games on the original X-Box, like Jet Set Radio Future, Sonic Heroes, Sega GT, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, Outrun 2 & 2006, hell even Project Gotham games as a follow up to Metropolis etc... ?
I know you've mentioned a few of them before, but you've never done an out and out 'Sega on original X-Box' video, and a lot of them were little known and backwards compatible on 360 (not sure about Xbox One yet), I think it was pretty much all of them except Crazy Taxi 3 and Gun Valkyrie.
I definitely wanna do a OG Xbox episode. Sega led into that full on like it was the next Sega system, and many of its games can't be played on modern systems. I'll get to it.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention Gun Valkyrie in a TH-cam video, its not perfect, and was originally designed for the Dreamcast and meant to be played with a pad in the left hand (using it kind of like a Wii nunchuck) and the Dreamcast light gun in the right, using the d-pad on top of the light gun to control the movement like an FPS game or Gears of War with two sticks, and the aiming being like a light gun game to shoot. That is why it had such weird out of place controls on the X-Box (no light gun for it at the time.)
Sadly, that is one of the two original XBox Sega games that isn't compatible with 360. Plus while it wasn't as big of a thing for us in Europe, I'm sure you as an American know that XBox was the first translated version of Shenmue II the US ever saw. To us it was just an inferior version because of the cheesy voice acting (gotta love it being in Japanese and Cantonese with subtitles on PAL Dreamcast) and Dreamcast letting us use our old save game, even though you loose all your money at the beginning of part II (you do get your move scrolls and capsule toys when you get your rucksack back though.)
I think that's the bit I got stuck on as well, wouldn't know if it deffo was the last one cos I could never kill it :-)
Might have been easier if the controls were good and you were aiming with a light gun more like Sin & Punishment 2 on Wii instead of having to click sticks in all the time.
I believe Otogi and the sequel are still locked. I agree with what you said about these games being a great reason to get a 360, but there are so many more. Many folks give the PS3 credit for the most RPG exclusives, but the 360 has great arcade games and many action game exclusives. Senko no Ronde, Virtual On 4, GG Overture, Chrome Hounds, Operation Darkness, the Qubed collection and tons of shmups meant that I started with 360 last gen for sure.
Yeah I didn't count those as Sega only distributed them, they were actually made by From Software of Dark Souls fame, the same way Sega distributed that shit Aliens marines thing made by Gearbox, but you're right, they weren't backwards compatible and they are both amazing games to go through, and like Panzer Dragoon Orta, look better than a lot of 360/PS3 games if you have HD cables for your X-Box instead of composite/scart.
The actual fighting mechanics are a bit janky at times, it's definitely a game that is a fun experience more than a fun game if you know what I mean, but I'm glad i own them both, and knew what the first one was like before I bought the second one and I still did.

I have every single game listed on this video proudly installed on my Xbox 360 and Xbox One X. So thankful I bought both After Burner Climax and Outrun Online Arcade for the Xbox 360 Arcade before they were delisted.
What we need is a Skies of Arcadia HD Remake. I remember tracking the rumors a few years back.
I am still shocked one doesn't exist.
Playing the Gamecube version via Dolphin makes it look quite nice on high settings coupled with a HD texture pack which people have contributed to

Now if we only replace the sound and music of the Legends port with that of the DC sounds and music. Not possible with how the GC calls up sounds and music in this port.

my favorite mechanic in ikaruga that people usually fail to mention is that when you have it on hard mode the enemies will spray out pellets of the opposite color when they die. Man that makes it so much harder
This was an awesome idea for a video, Sega Lord! And I have to give Sega a lot of credit for all of those remasters from the Saturn--I had no idea they not only made so many available digitally but put in the work to remaster/rebuild them for HD. Amazing looking stuff!
Lets hope they continue that with Sega Ages and more compilations.

The Xbox brand has definitely come to feel like the continuation of what Sega was doing in gaming. So many ideas and moves that im confident they would have done themselves had they stuck around.

Backwards compatibility is something that absolutely must happen going forward with every platform. With software tools where they are and X86 being the core of console tech nowadays, it's highway robbery if it isn't a feature from here on out.
Damn - both Outrun Arcade and Afterburner Climax are games that I kept saying, "I'll get it next week/month"... then they got de-listed before I read the news about them. I could still kick myself TO THIS DAY!
I can at least take comfort that I have both Outrun 2 and Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for my Xbox. They are easily in my Xbox top 10. I'm even happier that I picked up the latter YEARS before the price got crazy (I paid less than a third of what it goes for today).
SEGA is on a bit of a roll lately (Sonic Forces aside)... perhaps they'll have a little extra money in the coffers to renew the needed licenses and get those games back on the marketplace - but that Ferrari license in particular can't be cheap these days.
Same thing happened to me with Sega Rally Online Arcade. I'll get it when it goes on sale. Then it was gone.

but as for after burner I got that day one. Still play it once in a while
Another awesome video! I’ve played most of these ports/emulators and it’s such a breath of fresh air to have a channel take time to give some much needed love to these. Some other youtube channels would take this opportunity to act all snoody and be like “these versions are trash because on stage three of this game on the upper left corner of the screen by the exit sign right before the third pole is a bit of video noise and inconsistent checkers...” but SegaLordX gives respect when it’s due!
I'm not a gamer that nitpicks. I am appreciative for every release. Game companies owe me nothing. If I like the release, they get my money. If I don't, they get nothing. No use bitching about it.

I've purchased a few sega games on the Xbox 360 and always run great! Same with the ps4! The very best thing about being a retro lover is can get a huge collection cheaper than back in the day! To many games not enough time!

Outrun 2 looks great! Too bad I missed that. Outrun was one of my favorite arcade games growing up. I was lucky to get "TMNT: The Arcade Game" before that was removed.
You are so right about Crazy Taxi on X360 (I got it with my Xbox Live subscription). I can't stand the new soundtrack, so I just enjoy it and Crazy Taxi 2 on my Dreamcast.
Jet Set Radio is a good port, but I also want to see JSR Future on the backwards compatibility as well!

Daytona also supports force feedback wheels. It really is a nice touch!

The only thing I don't like about the re-release of Soul Calibur is that they removed the story mode. And we need a new Panzer Dragoon saga or a HD re-release.
Saga does need a HD reissue, and not some half ass emulated attempt that looks bad.
Sega apparently lost the code for it, they WERE looking for it to do an XBLA version like they did with Guardian Heroes, but that is when they realised they didn't have it any more, so it would have to start again from scratch to make a remake (they don't even have the FMV sequences, so would have to redo those or record the compressed Saturn versions to use them again.)
A sequel, or a 4K (preferably VR) remake of the three shooters would be awesome.
@@SegaLordX I would buy it in a heartbeat just like Shenmue. I never completed Saga but I did get to the final battle.
If a developer can remake Under Defeat for the Switch, surely SOMEONE can recode Saga the same way.
The developer never lost the source code for Under Defeat on Dreamcast, and the Switch is a power PC based architecture and used mostly the same code as the 360/PS3/Steam version its a conversion of, that they also still have the original source code for. They basically took the game still on the dev kit, and changed a few flags as to what bits of the CPU, GPU and memory they turn on and off, so it would work on Switch.
The concept of taking the raw source code of a small shoot-em-up (take the CD Quality sountrack off, the entire game is like 20mb of data, that they still have the source code for), and taking a four disc RPG containing nearly two gigabytes of code, that you don't have, that someone has to sit there playing the released Sega Saturn version of and making a whole new game from scratch to copy it completely, having to redraw every single graphic individually, having to re-record the soundtrack playing it by ear, having to re-render all the CGI cut scenes, having to re-record all the dialogue, everything completely from scratch, is so much more work.
It's the difference between burning a copy of the Avengers DVD to a blu-ray (having the source code), and one person watching the avengers while shouting to a full movie set of actors, cameramen, lighting guys, musicians, special effects guys, make up, catering, everyone "Iron man is in a forest and flying now, and his suit is orange and red, and there's a blue glowing thing in the middle of it, and then he says to Captain America 'bad idea he really likes that hammer' and then Thor jumps at captain America with the hammer" and have them completely remake the entire film from scratch, rebuilding, re-shooting and re-recording everything, making new costumes, building new sets (including you humming the theme tune in front of an orchestra and getting the to re-record it from only your hums), JUST from listening to what you shout at them while you watch the original film on Blu-Ray, which is what remaking it without the source code would be like.
Except you would be trying to remake the entire Marvel Cinematic universe in one go, including all the netfilx shows and 5 seasons of Agents Of Shield, like that, in this comparison, instead of just one film, because there is just THAT much more content to Panzer Dragoon Azel than there is to Under Defeat.
So yeah, it is possible to do that, but under defeat probably cost less than $20,000 in wages for the handful of coders that changed the flags in the code, and a few weeks of Q&A. Panzer Dragoon being remade totally from Scratch would cost about the same as Final Fantasy XV, take multiple years to do, and need to sell about 10 million copies to break even. It would only sell like a million, maybe 2 tops, or if it sold 1 million it would cost like $600 a copy just so Sega don't go bankrupt for making it.
If they had the source code, it would be an awesome thing, and only cost them a couple of mill (like $2-3 max) to upscale all the textures and lock the framerate at 1080p 60, like they did with Nights on 360, and I wish so bad they could do that. But it is an impossible dream, if they tried to kickstart it they would need like $60,000,000 to get it done from scratch in this day and age, that's if they cut corners, and it'll be like five or six years till it comes out.

Great summary. Never knew about the Dungeons & Dragons release, I'll have to grab that one! Sega Rally Arcade (based on the Sega Rally 3 arcade game) was another great online racer for the 360 that's no longer supported on the One.

Dreamcast Collection on Xbox 360 has Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, SEGA Bass Fishing & Space Channel 5. It released exclusively for Xbox 360 on February 5th, 2011. They're the 2010 Xbox Live Arcade counterparts of the classic Dreamcast games all on one disc.
I really miss the Xbox 360 the last legendary console of the Xbox franchise. It is sad to see now in 2021 that Microsoft have abandoned the Xbox for the Game Pass

Another awesome video from the patron Saint of Sega! Is it just me or did us Sega fan boys gravitate towards Microsoft after Segas consule demise due to Sony angst? Also I am pained by Outruns non xb1 release, the tracks from SST and screaming Ferrari engines allways gets me going.
I think the Xbox was just a natural point of transition when the DC passed away. Sega put many of its IP's directly there exclusively.
Sega fans moved to the original Xbox because at that time it seemed Sega themselves had a stronger relationship with Microsoft. A lot of their games they were developing for Dreamcast ended up going straight to Xbox as exclusives. A lot of people consider the Original Xbox as the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast. Even the Xbox controller was inspired by the Saturn/Dreamcast.
Playstation has Yakuza so its a moot point
As a hardcore Sega fan, I moved to the PS2. I was fortunate to be able to buy a GameCube and an Xbox also, but the PS2 was my "home." I can't imagine having missed out on VF4:E.

You forgot to mention Sega Rally Online which is a port of Sega Rally Revo/3. Unfortunately, it is a 360 only game and also removed from stores but I found a way to buy and play the game on my 360 thanks to a seller on eBay who has the codes to the game for every cheap. They're legit and very nice! :D

Some of them. There are a handful like Panzer Dragoon Orta that are exclusive and never been reissued.
Not counting the Sega Mega Drive Collection maybe three or four so about 10% of what he showed here.
I'm glad to see that someone else loves Sonic CD as much as I do.

I absolutely loved Sega Saturn. I remember I used 2 play this game called lunacy and I really really liked it.i still have my Saturn but not that game.
Great video, but you forgot to mention Sega Rally! There's Sega Rally Revo on Xbox 360, which is a physical release that is quite cheap these days. Then Sega Rally Online Arcade for the Xbox 360 is a digital release which has also been delisted due to licensing, but I'm lucky enough to have bought it in time. Both are fantastic fun.
I mentioned here before that I actually missed Sega Rally Online Arcade when it was out. I didn't forget it, I just simply do not own it to show it off.
Thank You! Man I didn't know that the D&D games were on xbox. I've been wanting to buy the Saturn pack for a few years but $100+ when I wouldn't even be able to read and know what choices I'm picking made it impossible to buy. $15 and in English on xbox one I bought today. Played both and they're what i hoped. It's like suped up King of Dragons. Excellent! If you never help anyone ever again you've just saved me $100+ and fulfilled a major game want. 😁

Really good video. You missed one Saturn XBLA game that can be played on an Xbox One, though: Radiant Silvergun!
Other Saturn games on the Xbox 360's XBLA but aren't playable on the XBO include Battle Garegga, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 (in the Darkstalkers Resurrection collection). And since the Xbox 360 is backward compatible with the Xbox, you can play Dead or Alive in the Dead or Alive Ultimate collection.
Also, Marvel Super Heroes is playable in the Marvel vs. Capcom Origins collection on XBLA but it's been delisted.
Actually, Radiant Silvergun was in there. ;)

agree 100 percent about outrun 2, my favorite arcade style racer hands down, still have it on my xbox360 with a broken disk drive but since its on the harddrive we are all good
I ended up getting Daytona USA on the PS3, its funny because I played the Saturn versions (both the original and Circuit) for so long that I had to get used to the controls in this version
The arcade version was a different beast from the home ports. jumping one to another could be jarring.
Sega bass fishing ain't the same without the dreamcast fishing controller. Very realistic experience with vibration feed back while reeling in a fish. Tons of fun.

The Sonic CD remake, while still a very great game and well done, has one major problem being the physics aren't quite the same, making a few speed run tricks impossible, and even a few spots where there are springs bouncing you through a semi loop to let you build speed up to time travel, doesn't work either in a few spots.
This further cements the idea that the Xbox is the spiritual successor of the Dreamcast
I'm glad that while Sega's hardware business went under, their ip's are still going strong and they release games on multiple systems. Sega games are loved by a lot of people, like Virtua fighter and ofc Sonic

The Yakuza games always feature a bunch of good ports of old SEGA games as mini games.
Thanks for this video! I wish After Burner was still available for purchase via xbox live...same thing happened with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, however I'm glad I got the opportunity to buy it on my Jasper Xbox 360 a few years back. With that said, my Xbox 360 still gets tons of play!
Those Jasper boards really did seem to fix the RRoD problems. Mine still going strong, never had an issue.
One Sega game that I really, really want that used to be on the Xbox Live Arcade store was After Burner Climax. They don't even have it available in physical copies, so my best bet may be to download it on MAME, but who knows if it'll work since the arcade cab used that flight simulator stick
Many of Sega's latest arcade games do not run so well on MAME. I really wish they did.
If I remember, it was enhanced from the arcade version.
You can still get it on the Japanese PSN store if you have a PS3, you only need to set up a Japanese account on your PS3, download it, and then switch back to your actual account to start playing it and still get the trophies. Don't know if you can get it on Japanese XBLA, as you need a Japanese 360 to even check let alone buy and play it.
@@hybridvigga Man thanks for the info bro, but that's a little too intricate for me, just to play that one particular game anyway. I still have my original Xbox, 360 and One, maybe I'll see if anyone had it downloaded from previous and can do some type of USB data transfer

I loved the backwards compatibility on the Xbox One X I had, but I sold it for a PS4 Pro because of some exclusive titles. I was looking into a used Xbox One but I didn’t want to pay that much for it knowing the Scarlett is on the way. So I picked up a 360 for $50. Original Xbox compatibility, all the Halo games except 5, and the Xbox Live Arcade. Very pleased for no more than I paid
you should do this list for PS3, PS4 and hell maybe even vita.

Yeah, there were quite a few great Sega games that were also released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii such as "House Of The Dead: Overkill", "MadWorld", and "Sonic Colors". :D
HOTD Overkill did get a PS3 release after for that Move thing.
Just an interjection. You can totally play different region versions on Ultimate genesis collection on 360. It's in the section right after you view the game info and scores. Used it specifically for the Jp Streets of rage 3.

3:30 For this one,personnaly prefer on saturn because the resolution is highest enough to have good picture,and feeling is better with irreplaceable saturn pad 3 buttons nearest disposed in one line.
But I think they were lucky with sega once(when i see Daytona,Panzer Dragoon,Night,Golden Axe and others on ps2...), to have had such good and faithful portages of their games.
We never got Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram in Europe so this was my first experience with the sequel. A fun game but it felt a real shame that I was experiencing the game so late. I wish I'd got to encounter it in the arcades back in the day.
You forgot to mention Sega Rally Online Arcade! It's a 1:1 port of Sega Rally 3 (but 30 FPS) + Online Multiplayer. It was delistened from Xbox Live and Playstation Network years ago, because of expired licenses. But you can still buy 360 Keys on ebay cheap for 5 bucks, which where originally included with the Microsoft X360 Wireless Speed Wheel.
I'm hoping Radiant Silvergun will be getting a release on Switch soon just based on the screenshot on Treasure's Twitter page a few months back showcasing both it and Ikaruga.
That 360 port of RS was paid for by Microsoft so it's unlikely. Though if there was just an exclusivity period of time then maybe at some point.

Either one is solid, but I'd recommend whichever is cheapest. The 360 release has some great arcade unlockables that the new game doesn't too.
another good video lord X, regarding games on xbox consoles. sega would have had their own smash bros in the form of sonic fighters had they not chosen to release virtua fighter kids, sonic R and a remix of the first virtua fighter game on the saturn. so many original releases that came out for the xbox consoles, the wii, the gamecube, the ps2 and ps3 would have saved the dreamcast and its potential successor were they still in the hardware market around the wii, ps3 and xbox 360. hell yeah, kill team and renegade ops on XBLA along with some other sega releases on XBLA and some pc games would have sold the dreamcast successor and it would have countered claims that their consoles were reliant on arcade conversions. i would have put gunblade NY, indy 500, scud race, motor raid, spikeout, virtua fighter 3, sonic rivals, columns crown, crazy taxi: catch a ride, knuckles chaotix, waverunner, the first yakuza game and many others on the saturn. for the dreamcast i would have had LA machine guns, daytona usa 2, yakuzas 2 & 3, planet harriers, crazy taxi 3, house of the dead 3, virtua fighters 4 & 5; both full auto games, after burner climax, virtua cop 3, both monkey ball games, thunderforce 6, sonic heroes, sonic unleashed, sonic rush adventure, ocean hunter, dirt devils, both otogi games, king of route 66, and both shinobi games that came on ps2. for the dreamcast successor i would have had madworld, alien syndrome, universe at war, virtua tennis 4, gungrave, resonance of fate, the first two bayonetta games, the second condemned game, stormrise, conduit 2, the second phantasy star universe game, the three sonic games that were exclusive on the wii (secret rings, black knight and colors); house of the dead 4, let's go jungle, anarchy reigns, binary domain, yakuza 4 & 5; tournament of legends, rise of nightmares and all sega releases on XBLA but physical releases. also a sonic spinoff that doesn't feature sonic himself, but stars silver and blaze as the main protagonists plus vector and cream as supporting characters. also shenmue 3, streets of rage 4 and virtua fighter 6 should have come out in the early 2010s.

I thought the Saturn Version had Mirror mode if you beat all the stages or something, I do remember playing in Mirror Mode, also as a Horse lol. As always great video!!
Indeed, but the arcade version of Daytona was a more difficult game IMO, so it really only adds to the already high challenge.
I have to admit, the 360 version of Daytona disappointed me when compared to the Dreamcast version. That had mirror mode, reverse mode, reverse mirror mode, different seasons or times of day for some of those options, and extra tracks and cars. a HD version of that with the proper controls would have been awesome, or even making the extra courses a DLC for the version we got, would have been amazing too.
But game companies don't really do common sense, otherwise we would have had the Satern exclusive areas of Symphony of the Night as DLC for that re-release.
I didn't like the Dreamcast version of Daytona (I still played it to death and online too...) but you really had to use the little thumb analog thing like a little steering wheel or you'd go all over the place.
Yeah, it was ported by Genki instead of Sega themselves, and the control was off. It wasn't just 'not like Daytona' it was an outright awful to play game with the pad.
It was a hell of a lot better with a steering wheel, it turned what is otherwise an awful game into a really good game, that looks like but still doesn't actually control anything like Daytona should. Apart from the 360/PS3 version which is spot on, the next best controlling one compared to the original is still the first 15fps letterbox version on the Saturn.

You see those list of games in your video Sega Lord X? Can you imagine how happy PC gamers like me would be if Sega ported all those to Steam? We'd be off the ground in happiness!
