I've been a collector of Arcade games for a couple of years now, and the bulk are Sega games. I own three daytona 2 and a star wars trilogy upright. But at one point I had one half of a Planet Harriers that was on it's last legs. Managed to get it working with pressure on the gpu sync and a stick rebuild but sold it to someone who considered it one of their grails, definitely a interested game and system but I doubt there will be any left in a decade or so due to the shotty build quality of the hikaru board.

That System 32 was a real 2D wonder in 1991, being both a standard arcade board(like a System 16) and a super-scaler board all in one. I loved playing the Spider-Man beat-em-up whenever I got the chance. I think that one is still very good. Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder is better, though. I never did see that one in the wild. I didn't like it at first, mostly due to the default damage settings which can take your quarters in a hurry, and because the US version goes on too long by making the branching paths worthless by making you go through all areas each run through. It is a fantastic game. Beat-em-up games fell out of favor by the mid 90s, so it would have been nice if they bundled this game with the Golden Axe fighting game they did put on Saturn. It might have made both games more successful. I think I would have been excited for it then. I remember standing around in a movie theater waiting for the start of Star Wars Episode I and killing time just watching the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade game in action. It was mesmerizing. I suspect Model 3 games were difficult or time consuming to port. Not because the DC was not powerful enough. It was the early days of 3D, before there were standard APIs like now. I remember the days of games supporting specific 3D chipsets individually. I would not be surprised if Model 3 games had to be mostly rebuilt from the ground up for the DC. The system could handle Model 3-level stuff, but it may not have been trivial to do it, which is a shame seeing how many interesting things were not ported. Another great video and topic. I see why you like Outrunners so much. The arcade version looks very good.
Again, a great informational video. One of the best so far, for the sole reason these games are rare, and us SEGA fans just love to know about anything about their products. Looking forward to part 2 😎
I loved this video! These arcade classics are really such a treasure trove that Sega desperately needs to tap into! You completely missed out The Lost World: Jurassic Park, on Model 3 hardware, which I think has to be my favourite arcade shooter from Sega ever!
Its a real shame Sega mostly ignored System 32 and Model 3 when it came to home ports, it would have been great having a version of Daytona 2 on the Dreamcast , and why Sega decided to remake the original instead is beyond me. They could have used a good Star Wars game on the system too , in addition to episode 1 racer (which really looked more like a port of the PC version)
I agree. I never understood the remake of Daytona when the Saturn had already done one. We didn't need another. They coulda just done Daytona 2 and added the Daytona 1 tracks.
God, I simply LOVED going to the arcades... and I loved Sega arcade games! I got a Dreamcast in the hope of getting some of these games for it... 🤔 Still dreaming...! Great videoand nostalgia trip 👍
great episode Sega Lord X, To be honest, the only I was able to play was The Star Wars trilogy. It is hard I got to the last boss Vader is tough so I wasn't able completed. I think the should have gotten a home port on the Sega Dreamcast it would have been a good home port. Well keep it Sega Lord X great channel
Out of all the SEGA arcade games that I played that didn't get a home console release, my favorites are Lost World Jurassic Park, Ocean Hunter, and Star Wars Trilogy Arcade.
great episode, I always feel like one of Sega's strongest qualities is their flair for visual design - it really dominates their arcade works. A feast for the eyes!
As a huge Star Wars fan Star Wars Arcade holds a special place for me. I first encountered it at an amusement park here in Finland and kept begging my mom for coins to play it instead of going to any of the rides in the park. It was also the very first arcade game I actually beat. Beating a home console game is one thing, but beating a game at an arcade with a limited number of coins at your disposal is something completely different. Sadly, it's been a few years since I last saw one around. I'd love to do that Death Star run again one day.
I discovered this channel some days ago. i love your passion for video games ( especially sega). This channel has become one of my favourites. saludos desde chile
I remember buying a magazine in the UK called CVG just before the DC came out & it covered Dirt Devils saying it was gonna be released on DC alongside Star Wars Trilogy & Ocean Hunter, shame none of them happened.
dude, i normally take your content for granted. but i got to take a minute now and thank you for putting together something as quality as this video. thank you for providing some distraction from the worries that are eating away at my sanity right now. i loved this.
Oh my god I need a few of these in my life. Been hankering after Outrunners, Scud Race, Golden Axe RODA , Daytona 2 etc for too long. It’s the reason I have a copy of Outrun for the OG Xbox. My friend had an Outrunners cab of which I’m extremely jealous of lol. I’ve also missed out on buying the Golden Axe pcb on a couple of occasions and is one that I would love to have in my collection.
This was an incredible video. I want all these games to get a release. I wish they would also release the AMazing Spider Man beat em up one of my favorite beat em ups that never gets talked about
I suppose the sponsor logos in Dirt Devils could easily be replaced but the star vehicle was a fully-branded Toyota truck in the iconic white, red, orange, and yellow Toyota off-road rally livery. It could be made "generic" in a hypothetical home port but it would be a crying shame if they didn't get the Toyota license.
My god man. Your channel and content is something else. I actually look forward to every video you make, your effort is highly appreciated. I do my own channel, but what you do is something I can only dream of and will never be able to compete with. Keep it up! :)
7:38 YESSSSS!!!! I would play that game almost every day when I got out of school and my mom took me to the mall to eat. I go so good I could pass it with two quarters (did the same with time crisis 2). I am so happy I was able to experience the US arcades in the late 90s and super early 2000s before they finally died out. I remember the day I went to the mall(early 2000s) and the Time Out arcade was closed down. One of the worst days of my gaming life!
What a great Video Idea man, thanx a Lot! Back in the days the graphics of ScudRace Blow me away when i saw IT in the magazines. Here in Germany aren't any Arcades, only Mashines Like in the Casinos and entrance only at 18!! Best regards from Germany 🤘
All these define my childhood memory of SEGA and WISH that one they they do release them somehow to the home market. Great video that brought back so many memories.
Great list, glad to see Desert Tank getting some love. Very satisfying destroy-everything kind of game that's often overshadowed by most of the other groundbreaking Model 2 games from the time. Another game I always wished would have made it home was Indy 500. Still can't believe that Daytona 2 and Super GT (Scud) never made it home, those two games were (and still are!) mainstays in the arcades with big name value and SEGA just let them languish. Virtua Cop 3, too...where u at?
It certainly does seem strange that remakes have been made for certain titles 3 or 4 times, yet the ones that got missed the first couple of times are still outstanding for any re-release at all.
Sega did some groundbreaking work with polygons back in the day. These early 3d games were a huge inspiration to me in pursuing game development as a full time job. Hard Drivin' from Atari was fun, but it was only when I saw the work Sega and Namco were doing in the arcades with realtime 3d that I saw the real potential for 3d games.
It's cool to see how both Nintendo and Sega are masters at making racing games. The only difference is that Sega is good at making racing games with "real" cars (Sega Rally, Scud Race, Outrun, etc) whereas Nintendo is good at making "other" type of racing games, like F-Zero, Mario Kart and Waverace.
Dbn Poldermans I assume you have never played the Mario Kart games, Waverace 64 and finally F-Zero and its sequel F-Zero X. They are all excellent games. Nintendo is superb at making racing games.
@Jeremy Robertson Nintendo developed F-Zero X (N64), not Sega. Sega developed F-Zero GX (Gamecube) which wasn't very good. And I personally enjoy Nintendo racing games much more than Sega racing games, but I guess it's a matter of personal preferences.
THANK YOU for this episode! Sega needs to release an Arcade Collection for modern consoles. In an alternate universe, this collection was released on Dreamcast at 60fps. Buuut, we don't live in that universe... In the meantime, I shall continue to pray to whatever God will listen for these incredible games to be released. Daytona USA 1 on Xbox One (widescreen and I *think* even 4K at this point) is a huuuge tease of what some of these could look like.
Great Video. There are so many you could do a sequel to this. I would mention A.B.Cop as one of my all time favorite arcade games that never had a port. Dark Edge was also the first 3D fighter before Virtua Figther and all sprite based. I'm sure you'll find others (Power Drift, Last Survivor...)
Instead of re-releasing SEGA Genesis collections (with dozens of missing entries each time), SEGA really ought to finally bring out these & other classic SEGA arcade games to modern platforms. Imagine a 3D recreation of a SEGA arcade where you walk around & interact w/3D versions of SEGA arcade cabinets, perhaps as characters from the Shenmue & Yakuza series. Not only will you be able to experience perfectly emulated arcade versions of these titles, some of which never even saw home ports, but you could play them online w/or against your friends. The game could be updated every few months with new entries as licenses are legally acquired. Add some mini-games like UFO Catchers where you can unlock collectibles based on SEGA characters & you could end up w/a SEGA history virtual museum for any SEGA hardcore gamer's dream come true.
Shame to see no mention of the original Spikeout!, that game was absolutely incredible and the closest we ever got to a 3D Streets of Rage that actually played well. And with all four cabs connected too! I would kill for a Switch port. And also Jurassic Park: Lost World which was one of the best licenced light gun games! Nice to see Scud Race and Planet Harrier mentioned too. Keep up the good work, as a massive Sega Fan, this channel is going from strength to strength!
Cool video, man! I've noticed we think the same way about Sega Model 3 arcade games: it doesn't matter if they are over 20 years old, they will always awe me with those graphics and blistering 60fps goodness! You also mentioned some degree of frustration for some games not being ported to the Sega CD, like Golden Axe the Revenge of Death Adder, but I don't think they'd look good on that system... though the hardware boasted the scaling and rotation capabilities, they were severely underused, and when they were eventually used, it was nothing at the caliber of System 32's awesome sprite capabilities. But still, It would've been great to have seen something being ported to home consoles anyway.
The truth is the Dreamcast's GPU wouldn't have been able to do D2 justice with all of the shader/poly math at 60fps, hence why Daytona usa 2001 had far fewer polygons and effects work than D2.
@@KISSFan1977 There simply is no examples that prove that, for e.g SR2 was 30fps despite only having usually no more than 2 cars on screen, people will point to the Windows C.E causing overhead which is true, but Sega were very unlikely to want to show how much less powerful their then newest console was to arcade hardware that debuted in 96 albeit with slightly faster cpu clock speed on Model 3 step 2. Sega arcade hardware was almost too ahead of it's time to make cost effective on home platforms, which could be both a good and bad thing.
Really appreciate your channel. I’m a big Sega fan myself getting the Genesis in ‘89 from my Dad. I’m in my mid 30s so I appreciate your honest and older perspective. That’s why I enjoy ppl like you, CGQ, Bithead1000 and HCG. You older heads know wassup. Anyways, I would like to request a Sega Light Gun shooting games video. I think even Sega made a game for Namco in the PS2 days. But yeah please consider because your research and presentation is always top tier. Take it easy man and thanks again for your videos.
Great video.. I remember reading somewhere that a Dirt Devils port for the Dreamcast was in the works... It was probably cancelled due to the short lifecycle of the console...
Am thankful we have companies like M2 and Arcade1Up help port great arcade classics to today gamers. I hope that one day will see some of the arcade games in this video get a re-release arcade cabinet by Arcade1Up.
Revenge of Death Adder, Daytona 2 and Outrunners are absolute works of art that need to be preserved in a home release! These are all good but especially those three :D
Daytona 2 is a technical marvel, a true masterpiece of the media. The fact there's no official release of it on any home platform today is outrageous...
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was one of those games I always wanted to play as a kid, but was *always* occupied. There wasn't as much putting quarters up back in the late 90s/early 2000s, but best believe kids were waiting on queue for their chance to fight Darth Vader
I remember seeing Harley Davidson arcade game usually at Fun Spot locations here in Texas. I think they removed that and all other older arcade games in favor of the newer titles which is a real shame. Played the game a few times. Played a stand up cab of Star Wars trilogy at a bar/ restaurant back in 2008 and enjoyed the game and wish a home port would come out on modern consoles or a PC download through Steam or GOG. Sega Super GT i played at a Game Works and sadly the place closed down.
I have a emulated of death adders revenge on xbox. Even the poor emulation quality still screams how good this game is. Pretty much the pinnacle of wide scrolling beat em ups. Definitely rivals tower of doom and shadows over mystara in quality
It has a few glitches, but it runs well and looks good on a more recent version of MAME on PC, might try that. The version of MAME that you're running on your XBox is no doubt really old/inaccurate.
Model 3 games needed to be completely reprogrammed for the Dreamcast. That's why they preferred to just work on an almost perfect conversion (and quite fast) from Naomi games than dealing with the Model 3 games, that would've taken double or triple the time.
Very informative video. My two cents would be Sega's Virtua Cop 3 which was rare in the UK even when released. Funnliy enough our local bowling alley in Yeovil, Somerset had a cab and it was always my go to machine as it was so much fun! Earned yourself a new sub, keep up the good work!
Sometimes its not the licensing of obvious trademarks. Sometimes third party assets or even software or technology are licensed for development, And when these contracts dont include ports on other than arcade systems, there is no big chance for a conversion.
I can definitely relate to Sega Lord X, being a middle aged guy myself who grew up loving Sega arcade games. I also spent countless hours on system16.com looking at all the arcades games that never came out locally. I can't believe that arcades are actually making a comeback, as a Round 1 Entertainment opened up near my area with some of the more recent titles (House of The Dead Scarlet Dawn), and Japanese titles that I had never seen before (Project Diva Arcade Future Tone).
Loving your content man... i used to have every sega going and i started obviously in school collecting. Sega was my only friend as my social skills were weak and i dreamed of the day when model2/3 arcade would be in the home... cut to the present day and a loss of job and license causes me to sell my entire collection (and my turntables alas i kept the vinyl) - although im still not very well off financially and very regretful that i had to sell the collection (wasnt just sega, had other things like jag64 etc) - and even if i started again i wouldn't be able to catch up with my old catalogue... thankfully we have emulation and i now "own" all the arcade games i dreamed of back then on my phone... and think about this - if i went back in time and told my young self that in the future on my phone i can get arcade perfect (within reason of emulation) downloaded from the air, regardless of what model arcade board it uses etc and its free!!! - and this is just on a phone... id of been utterly wowed! - my wife has just got me a pandoras box for xmas to help heal the loss of those sega machines that got me through so much.... watching your channel and passion for sega really reminds me of my young self getting into fights in the playground over playstation vs saturn lol... anyways... just thought id tap you up. Best wishes.

The saddest part is that the game was going to come out for the DC, but got cancelled.

Sega Ages on Nintendo Switch would be a perfect opportunity to release these games. I hope they do.
God, I simply LOVED going to the arcades... and I loved Sega arcade games! I got a Dreamcast in the hope of getting some of these games for it... 🤔 Still dreaming...!
Great videoand nostalgia trip 👍
You are the Sega guru. Love these vids and your vast knowledge
Thank you for posting this video. Please continue this series.
A pleasure as always. I would have liked to see Moonwalker the arcade version on home consoles. So much better than the home version we got
I was already missing a video from Sega Lord this week. Thanks, mate.
Awesome video! Sega gems indeed! Lots more arcade gems locked away in arcade; more videos welcome!
great episode Sega Lord X, To be honest, the only I was able to play was The Star Wars trilogy.
I really enjoy watching our videos , thanks for bringing back so many arcade memories and also for the games that I didn't know
great episode, I always feel like one of Sega's strongest qualities is their flair for visual design - it really dominates their arcade works.
At 3:15 in the game Dirt Devils you can see the Dreamcast advertising in the background of the game :)
I remember buying a magazine in the UK called CVG just before the DC came out & it covered Dirt Devils saying it was gonna be released on DC alongside Star Wars Trilogy & Ocean Hunter, shame none of them happened.
@@adamphillip5305 The more I hear about those games from the arcade the more I get upset... FUCKING SEGA WHY!?
dude, i normally take your content for granted. but i got to take a minute now and thank you for putting together something as quality as this video. thank you for providing some distraction from the worries that are eating away at my sanity right now. i loved this.
No problem, bud. Glad I could help.
I wish they would also release the AMazing Spider Man beat em up one of my favorite beat em ups that never gets talked about
this is my top youtube channel i get excited when a new video comes out you give great reviews and great info about sega keep it up man
I suppose the sponsor logos in Dirt Devils could easily be replaced but the star vehicle was a fully-branded Toyota truck in the iconic white, red, orange, and yellow Toyota off-road rally livery. It could be made "generic" in a hypothetical home port but it would be a crying shame if they didn't get the Toyota license.
I remember playing Scud Race & Harley-Davidson game at the arcades awesome
My god man. Your channel and content is something else. I actually look forward to every video you make, your effort is highly appreciated. I do my own channel, but what you do is something I can only dream of and will never be able to compete with. Keep it up! :)
I thought the same of my early content. That I just couldn't do as good as the other guys. Keep at it brother. You may surprise yourself.
I wish so bad they would have released super sega gt on the dreamcast
What a great Video Idea man, thanx a Lot! Back in the days the graphics of ScudRace Blow me away when i saw IT in the magazines. Here in Germany aren't any Arcades, only Mashines Like in the Casinos and entrance only at 18!!
Best regards from Germany 🤘
I was never a Sega fan growing up but I must admit, I am starting to really appreciate the unique games Sega released
I played the hell out of the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade in the 90s. Absolutely mind blowing.
Oh man, I remember playing that Star Wars trilogy arcade. The speeder bike level you showed here brought it back to me.
I remember seeing the Star Wars game in the arcade back in the day. Man I got my ass handed to me. Great looking at the time.
Look up a game called 90’s Arcade Racer by Nicalis. It’s a racer that’s HEAVILY inspired by classic Sega arcade racers that’s coming soon!
Ryuujin1078 vaporware tbh
@@emagid3599 It was going to be a Wii U game. It's not coming out.
What a dumbass, try hard name for a game.
All these define my childhood memory of SEGA and WISH that one they they do release them somehow to the home market. Great video that brought back so many memories.
Loved Outrunners and SCUD racing!
It's games like these as to why I've always loved SEGA.
This video is great. For years now I’ve been so frustrated by the lack of model 3 games that have been brought to consoles.
Nintendo good at race games? I love F-Zero, the last one was made by Sega
Dbn Poldermans
I assume you have never played the Mario Kart games, Waverace 64 and finally F-Zero and its sequel F-Zero X. They are all excellent games. Nintendo is superb at making racing games.
Sega was way better in doing racing games than Nintendo
@Jeremy Robertson Nintendo developed F-Zero X (N64), not Sega. Sega developed F-Zero GX (Gamecube) which wasn't very good. And I personally enjoy Nintendo racing games much more than Sega racing games, but I guess it's a matter of personal preferences.
It's been years since F-Zero, let alone Wave Race. It's sad.
Superb video SLX...I learned of some arcade games that I forgot about or never heard before. Happy thanksgiving!
Thanks Bro, you too.
Add some mini-games like UFO Catchers where you can unlock collectibles based on SEGA characters & you could end up w/a SEGA history virtual museum for any SEGA hardcore gamer's dream come true.
that would totally work!
Daytona 2 should have been on the Dreamcast for sure!
The datona we did get on there sucks
@@MitsuhashiTakashi it wasn't the worst game but it wasn't as good as either of the Saturn versions of the game.
The truth is the Dreamcast's GPU wouldn't have been able to do D2 justice with all of the shader/poly math at 60fps, hence why Daytona usa 2001 had far fewer polygons and effects work than D2.
@@leeboy2k1True but they still coulda made a respectable port of the game.
Only Sega can build such games. We want a package with all of this stuff now!!!Great video Segalord!
I've considered just a "gun game" episode. I'll see what I can put together.
YEA MAN SEGA WAS DOING 60FPS WITH MILLIONS OF POLYGONS PERSEC IN THE 90'S-
THIS VID IS EPIC 🏆
Emulation, friend. It's not some evil, taboo thing. It's an incredible thing.
My favorite chanel on TH-cam, waaaaw Daytona 2?? First time i see it😍😍
Star Wars Trilogy is SO good! !
For sure, it’s just nice to have a modded Xbox and even with the glitches in the animation, it’s still a high quality title
@@troybilko - Oh yeah, I can understand that, just letting you know that it does run quite well with minimal glitches in a more recent version.
@@troybilko Have you ever tried the MAME arcade game "The Crystal of Kings"? You'd probably really like it.
Sick Game Squad I’ll check it out, thanks
Model 3 games needed to be completely reprogrammed for the Dreamcast. That's why they preferred to just work on an almost perfect conversion (and quite fast) from Naomi games than dealing with the Model 3 games, that would've taken double or triple the time.
Why not create a petition for Sega to port some of its old arcades to the home, i`m sure a lot of people would digitally sign it.
[letting those ads run because it's Sega Lord X...]
Maybe someday Sega will do an arcade compilation like the Genesis one
Very informative video. My two cents would be Sega's Virtua Cop 3 which was rare in the UK even when released. Funnliy enough our local bowling alley in Yeovil, Somerset had a cab and it was always my go to machine as it was so much fun!
Earned yourself a new sub, keep up the good work!
Played Space Harriers at an Arcade in Charlottesville, Virginia of all places. It was a blast and was in a Star Wars Arcade cabinet.
That's funny as hell. I was actually born in Charlottesville.
Such a great list of classic arcades, I really hope they will come to home console at some point
Sometimes its not the licensing of obvious trademarks. Sometimes third party assets or even software or technology are licensed for development, And when these contracts dont include ports on other than arcade systems, there is no big chance for a conversion.
Awesome video keep up the great work. Cheers
Man I remember Star Wars Trilogy and Daytona USA 2. They used to have those at my local Chuck E. Cheese's when I was younger, those were the days
Another great series you’ve got here Lord X. Thought about doing an episodes on each different Sega arcade board ?
Emulation keeps many of these games available to those who have no access to them. It's become a pivotal part of the hobby.
My dude quickly becoming one of my favourite TH-camrs real top quality content
