Been listening to this twice a day at minimum since finding this video 3 weels ago. Im obsessed, its like I'm truly hearing live music for the first time the way these guys do it
Been watching this video again and again for years but I’m here to finally leave a comment to say that this might be the best video on the entire TH-cam.
“In philosophy, systems theory, science, and art, emergence occurs when a complex entity has properties or behaviors that its parts do not have on their own, and emerge only when they interact in a wider whole” Lot of that going on in that fake room.
That’s so interesting. I do that with my muso friends or bandmates when I performed and rehearsed in the past. Its a form of nonverbal communication, when you just feel the music and the emotions with your soul.
I am on at least my 50th watch/listen of this in a week. I think this is maybe the greatest film/evidence as to why people need to be in a room to truly create something magnificent. Plenty of music is made alone these days and it is great, but there is something undeniable about being in the same room as other musicians creating. This is beyond belief. Can’t imagine what it would be like to be in the room.
i've never seen ANYTHING like this. production was hands down top tier, dijon's emotions were over the roof, and the songs, despite all the chaos, were so beautifully made. definitely my comfort album 2024 edit: this is still the best thing on earth
2024 reply, this has been my favorite video to watch when I'm staying up too late, having a few drinks. Headphones on, volume all the way up, rewind Scratching 6 times before moving on.
This is wild because he manages to both sound like Bon Iver and Frank Ocean at the same time but maybe those are unfair comparisons because in the end he simply, and most importantly, sounds like himself. This is so great.
I’ve spent years religiously listening to mk.gee and Dijon separately so when I found out they not only knew each other but also work together? I literally lost my mind 😭 what an iconic team up
This Project is LIFE CHANGING This Project is HEALING MY MOTHER PASSED to the other side of time 7 years ago and this project helped me find myself through so much pain…it helped me find her voice. I’m so late to the party, but I think I just cried from pure beauty for the first time in my life. It felt like it washed over me. It felt like looking at a piece of fine art, and really connecting with it. It felt like everything I love about collaborating. Thank you.
Damn. That's quite the comment. It is a great video. definitely watched it a few times. The comments make me feel vindicated in my emotional reaction the first time.
are there people like me who want to comment, but then also just enjoy reading? and seeing that world has this postive side too, where people are actually nice and so kind.
So special we get to drop in on this whenever we want. What a gift... when Dijon and Mk.gee are the biggest artists in indie music, this shit is going to one of the most precious artifacts in music.
i have the craziest emotional response every time I watch this. I can’t get through a single song without bawling my eyes out. everything about this video is perfect. it’s seriously unreal the album is already such a beautiful masterwork & these performances add even more beauty. this is seriously a masterpiece , I’m sure I sound redundant but I write this with an unspeakable amount of tears in my eyes… this shit is incredibly powerful
This is one of the best music performances ever captured on film....that said, can someone shed some light on the production of this? What is this set?!... that the literal fourth wall is removed at some point?! How many takes were necessary to get some of these shots?! All of this is from pure appreciation. The editing, the shots, the band, the sound engineering....ugh, just the best.
I figure they rented a soundstage, built the set and just ran through each song a few times maximum, while messing around a bit between the takes. The last bit, though - that was probably just once 😀

This is like Bright Eyes, d’angelo, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Springsteen with a dash of Wilco all rolled into one unique and amazing artist. It comes at just the right time and is completely moving. Kids take note…the emotion and creativity that occurs in a room with people is mesmerizing. I think many of us that play music can relate to the feeling this video conveys with your voice blown out, your fingers hurting and the fog of too many beers as the clock pushes towards 3am with your buds…but god damn I don’t think many of us have sounded this tight it that chaos.
In other words a pitchfork wet dream…but it’s so much of a pitchfork wet dream that they gave it a lower rating than it deserves …because….you know…it wouldn’t be cool to be into something so cool.
Had the incredible opportunity to meet him in a bar in Portland before his show. He was so humble about his success thus far. He bought my girlfriend a drink and was on his way. Good dude.
The energy in this film is so raw its unbelievable. the amount of thought that went into filming the craziness that was the live performance is maddddddddddd! Jack Karaszewski you nailed it, massive props to you.🙌
watching this while dealing with depression and a breakup. i don't know how to put into words what i feel right now, but i can say that this is making hurt less. can't wait to come back when everything passes to appreciate it even more. this is something i've never see or heard like before. pure art. thank you dijon, god bless.
Favorite drop of 2021, easily. ‘Absolutely’ resists the urge to neatly detail complex situations and instead makes an active decision to ooze, and at times explode, with organic expression. I haven’t been this excited about music in a long time - thank you, Dijon!
I have an interpretation of this album/video. From what I've gathered from listening to this performance/album, it delves into relationships, with the good and bad parts shown (mostly the bad parts though). Both the video and album start with Big Mike, a song where Dijon is singing about begging a partner to accept him and "take" him. He is surrounded by everyone in a closed off, 4 wall ranch home type set. As the video goes on, it goes into scratching and talk down. I don't have much to say about these two except that I assume that they are about being in a relationship (I mean talk down is a song about how he loves some ones voice idk man). As it progresses into Annie, another Love Song, it shows the set getting progressively darker outside, and Dijon is getting noticeably exhausted, showing the strain that this relationship is causing him. In Many Times, it culminates into Dijon's anger and his freak-out that happens in the lyrics and at the end when he runs outside to catch some air. He comes back inside to Rodeo Clown where all this hurt amasses into him breaking furniture and throwing bottles. He drunkenly belts out these heartfelt lyrics that convey a feeling of despair. At this point it is completely Dark on the set and he is completely exhausted. He then runs under a door and away from the soundstage into the sky. I think the visuals of the ranch style home (an homage of sorts to Dijon's sound and inspiration), and the use of a set instead of a traditional stage conveys a sort of feeling of it being "fake." As if the expectation of this relationship is a picture perfect one, compared to the reality and difficulty that is in maintaining a good relationship. I think this idea is also backed up by the artificial lighting, and when the people recording started taking photos of Dijon. This could relate to the lyric "airing our dirty laundry" (putting things on display kind of). I think the part where he escapes outside symbolizes his realization that things don't have to be this way, then going into rodeo clown and him singing about feeling like a clown. (This is a little rough around the edges because I thought of it a couple weeks ago and it was much fresher in my mind then. So if things don't make any sense at all that is my fault, that is if anyone even reads this at all). TLDR; this video symbolizes the struggles of a bad relationship and the strain it has on Dijon.
Wow this is absolutely insane. From the raw emotion from Dijon's performance, to the chemistry between him and Mk.Gee and the other musicians, to the way it is filmed. This is one of the most brilliant pieces of live music I've ever seen.
I've never been so affected by a piece of art before. I mean that. Film, music, paintings. Nothing's ever made me feel like this. Beyond imagination, well done.
I have been watching this video for years i watch it maybe once a week. Finally leaving a comment to say this is one of my favorite art pieces of all time. this video has not only changed the way i view music and songwriting but it has changed my life. Absolute masterpiece. I catch new details everytime i watch. I love everything about how this video catptures the emotions that it does. So lucky to be alive while these musicians are doing what they do!
sad that The Dress wasn’t included in this but watching the part for Rodeo Clown had me nearly in tears. i think both of those song specifically resonate with me because it’s how i used to feel for the longest time. someone who didn’t want me like i wanted them and the aftermath of being “just friends” really tore me apart for a while. luckily im no longer experiencing this but to me, those songs helped me with fully closing that chapter of my life. the emotions this album in general put me through was something i’ve only felt maybe 2 other times. so thank you Dijon, i can’t wait to see you be as big as frank one day
I was obsessed with this video a few months ago. Got me through so many turmoils. Back here now and still one of my favorite productions ever. Incredible.
Organic AF!!!!!!!!! nothing better than creating real-time. everyone finds that pocket and start vibing...............so dang beautiful. no true lyrics even really needed on Big Mike's
this is one of those incredibly special life changing moment in time albums man this shit will be with me forever feels like youre in that room with them when u listen
A true work of raw and honest work. Something so sincere and amazing about a warmly lit room with little room, filled with instruments and musicians. Bouncing off each other, fireworks of noise and art being created in this cramped room, and for us to witness such work is “ABSOLUTELY” a privilege. The bursts of noise, the off keys, the rawness in Dijon’s voice, Dijon’s ability to engage with everyone in the room, everything about this is perfect. Sad to hear this won’t be on the internet for very long. It makes art what it is, a fleeting joy we appreciate and gaze at while it’s present. Thank you to Dijon and everyone who made this film possible. Album of the year…
You can feel every song its insaaane. I had chills the whole time and realized I was crying at the end lol. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for him
i grew up in a house full of musicians i love this so much just like being a kid watching all the interesting people make sweet sounds together. so much love for dijon and mk.gee for making real soulful music.
This is easily, without question, my favorite album I've ever listened to. I've been listening to it over and over since it came out and walked past my spotify algorithm.
What an amazing film. The music, the emotion, the songwriting, the voice... And a shoutout to Mike Gordon for his brilliant guitar playing and the way he backs up Dijon with his vocals and energy.
An amazing musician for years but this is truly a raw audiovisual masterpiece. The earlier drops were beautiful but all together as a film it’s truly next level artistic expression.
I cannot express enough how good this album is. What completely struck a chord with me is Talk Down but I discovered the rest of the songs on Spotify and I can honestly say this is on my top ten albums of all time. A true gem that truly came out of nowehere.
I had the blessing of seeing them open for Bon Iver when he was on tour, and it was ethereal. I find myself coming back to this video/ regularly and it never gets old. Dijon is generational talent. I sincerely hope he gets the recognition he deserves. This album has done so much for my life and well being. THANK YOU
I just found this today and I cried in bed with my wife. Not only because of how beautiful this is, but also because I will NEVER be able to watch it again FOR THE FIRST TIME! No matter how much I try & emulate this feeling or experience, I won’t. I couldn’t forget this masterpiece if I tried.
This album has gotten me excited about music in a way I haven’t felt in a while. I just feel the need to say thank you- this shit got me dancing around and yelling all the lyrics…. cheers!🥂⭐️🪄
The chemistry between Dijon and Mk.gee is what makes this so special. The way they interact and play off of each other is just incredible to watch.
Its totally hypnotic
do you think they explored each other's bodies?
Had to double back to this after mk.gee's performance on jimmy kimmel!

Lot of that going on in that fake room.

The way they were feeding off each other's energy 🥰
cannot be more happy that I stumbled onto this video, Dijon is criminally underrated
big mike's will be my wedding song some day, I swear on it.
THANK YOU
U know when u find right thing at the right time? This was it for me,
Thank you Dijon.
this is some of the greatest music ever made, in history of all music, he's only getting better yall
This has gotta be one of the most moving pieces of Music + Visual art i've ever seen. UNREAL
this album just grows on me every single day
been obsessed with this since 2022 when it dropped. will always love it. can feel the energy through the screen
I just feel the need to say thank you- this shit got me dancing around and yelling all the lyrics…. cheers!🥂⭐️🪄
I KNOW IT SMELLS CRAZY IN THERE
