I’ve always been taught to ground and center before spell work because it helps you focus your intention, raises your energy for the ritual, and prevents you from bringing any unnecessary emotions into the spell. In my opinion, grounding and centering beforehand is even more important than afterward (altho I think both are important)!

I work at a hospital. I feel as if I absorb all energy around me. I feel a multitude of energies. I started unhealthy habits like to much coffee/nicotine and kratom just to numb all this. Thank you, I’m tearing up. Because I needed this information badly! I thought I needed therapy! All I need are these methods of protecting my energy and grounding. I’m tired of these bad habits. I really appreciate how you describe these things especially the centering one. I’ve always heard it described as feeling your energy around you and pulling it into the center of your body and I’ve always just been really confused and struggled with it but this approach to it makes much more sense to me and seems easier to achieve if that makes sense. With shielding, my mum taught me a thing. Stand and take a few deep breaths, then from the ground to the top of your head zip up like a sleeping bag, but you leave the top open for the sun energy to reach you - but it will block all the negative energy from people around you. Really helped me out as a kid in a very rowdy class!
I don't shield often (I really need to more), but I usually visualize a sparkling layer of energy surrounding me. It really helps because I pick up others energies like it's hot (it's not hot, its tiring). The roots visualization has always been my fav grounding, I use it to pass energy back and forth as a way of filtering as well as just borrowing some. My centering usually is just deep breathing and focusing on that, though that practice sould use some expansion!
Thank you so much for all of this! I’ve done most all of this instinctively as an empath. Now, it’s just learning mindfulness and more directed methods. I shielded today at work. It’s a new job and it’s a major adjustment. Then, when I got home I literally took my shoes off and embalmed through wet muddy grass in the rain. I was earthing and grounding. And, I put car magnets on my car which helps to center and recharge me. Creative outlets are a big way to recharge for me. I have a very physically demanding job that’s not creative but as a single parent I have to have a steady income and benefits.

A "baby witch" or rather, a beginning practitioner of magick, is someone who after creating an intent manifests their result after some time. To anyone but them It might as well have been a coincidence if not for the practitioner's intent and practices. An intermediate practitioner of magick is someone who after creating an intent also waits for their result. However, this practitioner is receptive to signs regarding his or her working. They focus on the "why" of their intent and "who" the forces are that guide them. They might predict when, where, or how their result will manifest. An advanced practitioner of magick is someone whose intent is synchronized with manifestation. Thus they are as much the product of magick as the magick they perform. As you can see, magick means different things to different stages of practitioner. To the beginner, when things change according to their will, they've "performed magick." To the intermediate, when they are able to understand why things change as well as their will, "magick has occurred." To the advanced, everything is magick. They can't NOT do magick. Change is their stability.

Great video. I’ve also found that centering is a great practice for empathy to help them create a sense of separation between ourselves and the emotions of others and makes shielding more effective in keeping out those emotions that are not our own.
I literally learned all of this in therapy cuz my therapist was a hippy, just like me😂 but yes this 110% works and helps with daily life and daily stress
I really like the idea of shielding! I am new to all of this and am feeling my way! but, things are definitely changing at the place that I work and I think that this would be a wonderful idea to keep myself from being drowned by the person that is my coworkers emotions. When I was a kid I was afraid of the dark when going to the toilet at night and I was imagining a huge group of monsters coming to get me from the dark. I love singing so I naturally started singing when this happened and I was naturally visualizing how the sounds and the notes going out of my mouth were creating a huge transparent bubble around me and the fear/monsters couldn’t reach me anymore and the more I sang the stronger the shield was. I still do it when I’m scared and I’m fascinated that I was doing it naturally without knowing any of those practices. Thank you for your help, Olivia and best of luck to everyone!
I like to see my obsessive thoughts as sentences/ words on a leaf going down a stream. I see it, briefly acknowledge it, and let it float down the stream out of sight. I learned that technique yrs ago from a therapist and it has worked well for me ever since.
I works in social work and our office was on an old school campus that had a little stream and park. When I would do my daily phone calls, I’d go and take my shoes off and walk on the ground while talking to the families and when I did this all of my calls went 90% better than they would have as I stayed calm and unbothered which helped others to calm faster.
One thing I found as a person who often feels like I don’t fit in or that I’m obligated to be acceptable for other people is that setting up an energetic shield gives me space to focus truly on myself and nobody else, even in spaces full of people. In fact, I did it in the middle of class today so that I could get my work done more effectively
I am not a witch but about grounding, like you described it, I think I have found something for myself: bathing in cold water. It makes me feel and therefore connect to my surroundings und then feel and connect to myself in the moment. It also gives me energy. Not sure if that counts tho, I used this especiallly after studying :)

Someone taught me this early on. I'm an empath and found a home health aide client's inner turmoil exhausting... so my friend suggested I embody a flower in a pot... where the flower accepts the energy and helps it release into the earth... so I can be ok with other people's pain and allow it to transform into clean, pure energy.
I ground and center at the beginning of my spellwork so that I can pour more energy into my spell without using up my personal energy. I don’t have a very large “battery” either, so grounding and soaking up all that earth energy before I use it keeps me from running out during the ritual or from not powering my spells enough.
I loved this video so much! I think people in general, in all fields of life, get really disconnected from themselves and lack the knowledge or ability to get back in touch with what is inside. These practices help a lot! Many of them are used or recommend by therapists. And as strange as it seems, I sometimes see practitioners of magick forget that they are human first, prone to all the dangers of disconnection and bad energy overload.
You are such a great teacher. I'm familiar with all these practices, but I've never truly understood them until hearing your explanation. They're so similar, but you have a way of separating concepts very clearly. Thanks for this!
if you are trying to ground in a cold environment you need to physically protect yourself. do not walk around for to hours with no shoes on in +5 weather you will lose your feet. if you have an alernative method great but please be safe and mindful of the temprture so you don't get frost bite
My favorite is to practice Earthing at the beach. I also practice grounding by envisioning positive energy to enter my body as the waves flow toward me and pulling negative energy away from me as the tide pulls waves away from me.

This was a great video. I’m not a practicing witch, but I do yoga, l love walking barefoot, and I sometimes remember to shake negative or excess energy out of my body, either by dancing or just shaking my arms. I’ll definitely shall look into shielding. Everyone is friendly at work, but sometimes spinning loads of little details can get a bit overwhelming. I may not practice witchery, but I think the world would be a better place, if we all wondered more about the magical aspects of the mundane.

This was very informative, thank you. I'm exploring if witchcraft is for me, and was having trouble connecting, as I'm not spiritually or religiously inclined. However as an introvert and high sensitive person, these methods resonate with me very much. I use similar methods to calm my mind and be able to deal with stress of daily life. I like how it connects psychology to a higher state of awareness of onesself.
I live in California, in one of the first cities to have quarantined. I've gone outside just four times since March in an attempt to limit the spread of a certain virus, and also out of fear of the people who *aren't* making an effort to limit the spread (i.e. not wearing a mask, or lashing out at those who do). As a result I've been incredibly stressed, burnt out, and disconnected from my practice. This video really encouraged me to get back into it, as well as prioritize self-care. Thank you, Olivia.

I ground before spells too because grounding can be an exchange. If you draw energy from the earth for workings, you won't deplete your self as much. Meditations are good for this type of grounding. And make sure to ground when done to rid of excess energy and center to not be too buzzy. Hype is good and natural but not anxious or sick.
Earthig explains so much why so always have the intention to take of my shoes when I'm on a walk. I also get really stressed during the summer when I have to wear shoes. Have never heard of Earthing before, thank you so much for mentioning it.
The whole earthing this I have known about since the early 1980's. In Scott Cunningham's Earth Power book on page 35, discusses an earth bed. It is such a good feeling.

Thank you for the information about cleansing yourself before you put your shield up. I usually put two shields up. The first one lets in positive energy, and the inner one blocks negative energy. The positive one is pink to me and the blocker is neon green.
Loved this video, Olivia. I am one of those people that lumps grounding and earthing together. However, I do both while grounding. At 7:50 when you describe why you ground yourself *after* spell work, my mind was blown and it makes so much sense. I am a natural manifest-or and I come from a long line of powerful, magickal women, but didn’t start any personal practice until very recently. My first healing ritual for my nephew, I felt so drained and tired and I knew I over did it, energetically. What I didn’t know was *why*... Now I know- I’d only ever heard of ground prior to casting, not after. EVEEER. So I would close the circle and complete my intention and be done. I’m going to try things differently next time to see how it works - thank you for this video and I hope you had a lovely break from TH-cam!!! Earthing is great and I'd like to encourage people to look up what forest bathing is. If you're not into walking barefoot, extending your arm and letting your finger tips touch plants as you walk by or instead of walking through, shuffle through piles of leaves, or you can also just sit or lie on a rock or the ground, feel and listen and my favorite....pet the moss. See moss? Gently pet it with a finger these are good techniques especially for folks who live in more urban areas and barefoot is not really an option.

Every witch channel or tradition I’ve learned from has different interpretations of centering and grounding. However I think your methods make the most sense to me! I have been practicing for a year, and done some more advanced work like spellcraft, rituals, divinations…but I have so little free time now that I think it’s time to remaster the basics. My shield is always like a blazing fire (I’m a fire sign), honestly I learned to shield before I learned anything else because I’d had some negative experiences with spirits so shielding and protection work was the first thing I focused on
When I was little I used to sit on my floor and visualize mother earth growing roots from my body into the ground. That made me feel so connected to earth and safe. 💚
I've used earthing as a way of grounding myself and it's the only form of grounding that's worked for me. I had no idea it had it's own name, I didn't even think many other people did it.

A "baby witch" or rather, a beginning practitioner of magick, is someone who after creating an intent manifests their result after some time. To anyone but them It might as well have been a coincidence if not for the practitioner's intent and practices.
An intermediate practitioner of magick is someone who after creating an intent also waits for their result. However, this practitioner is receptive to signs regarding his or her working. They focus on the "why" of their intent and "who" the forces are that guide them. They might predict when, where, or how their result will manifest.
An advanced practitioner of magick is someone whose intent is synchronized with manifestation. Thus they are as much the product of magick as the magick they perform.
As you can see, magick means different things to different stages of practitioner. To the beginner, when things change according to their will, they've "performed magick." To the intermediate, when they are able to understand why things change as well as their will, "magick has occurred." To the advanced, everything is magick. They can't NOT do magick. Change is their stability.

Great video. I’ve also found that centering is a great practice for empathy to help them create a sense of separation between ourselves and the emotions of others and makes shielding more effective in keeping out those emotions that are not our own.

Earthing explains why I feel so happy and in tune while at the beach! It's a place where your body can be completely connected to the land and water ❤
I literally learned all of this in therapy cuz my therapist was a hippy, just like me😂 but yes this 110% works and helps with daily life and daily stress
I really like the idea of shielding! I am new to all of this and am feeling my way! but, things are definitely changing at the place that I work and I think that this would be a wonderful idea to keep myself from being drowned by the person that is my coworkers emotions. When I was a kid I was afraid of the dark when going to the toilet at night and I was imagining a huge group of monsters coming to get me from the dark. I love singing so I naturally started singing when this happened and I was naturally visualizing how the sounds and the notes going out of my mouth were creating a huge transparent bubble around me and the fear/monsters couldn’t reach me anymore and the more I sang the stronger the shield was. I still do it when I’m scared and I’m fascinated that I was doing it naturally without knowing any of those practices. Thank you for your help, Olivia and best of luck to everyone!

I like to see my obsessive thoughts as sentences/ words on a leaf going down a stream. I see it, briefly acknowledge it, and let it float down the stream out of sight. I learned that technique yrs ago from a therapist and it has worked well for me ever since.
I works in social work and our office was on an old school campus that had a little stream and park. When I would do my daily phone calls, I’d go and take my shoes off and walk on the ground while talking to the families and when I did this all of my calls went 90% better than they would have as I stayed calm and unbothered which helped others to calm faster.
One thing I found as a person who often feels like I don’t fit in or that I’m obligated to be acceptable for other people is that setting up an energetic shield gives me space to focus truly on myself and nobody else, even in spaces full of people. In fact, I did it in the middle of class today so that I could get my work done more effectively
I am not a witch but about grounding, like you described it, I think I have found something for myself: bathing in cold water. It makes me feel and therefore connect to my surroundings und then feel and connect to myself in the moment. It also gives me energy. Not sure if that counts tho, I used this especiallly after studying :)
Really interesting! I consider the centering as mental, grounding and energetic, and earthing as physical just so its easy to basically separate them.

It was definitely needed, so thank you for this one! I do ground and center myself, but i rarely* shield myself... and I've never earthed myself. I appreciate this and you so much!
Someone taught me this early on. I'm an empath and found a home health aide client's inner turmoil exhausting... so my friend suggested I embody a flower in a pot... where the flower accepts the energy and helps it release into the earth... so I can be ok with other people's pain and allow it to transform into clean, pure energy.

I ground and center at the beginning of my spellwork so that I can pour more energy into my spell without using up my personal energy. I don’t have a very large “battery” either, so grounding and soaking up all that earth energy before I use it keeps me from running out during the ritual or from not powering my spells enough.

I loved this video so much! I think people in general, in all fields of life, get really disconnected from themselves and lack the knowledge or ability to get back in touch with what is inside. These practices help a lot! Many of them are used or recommend by therapists. And as strange as it seems, I sometimes see practitioners of magick forget that they are human first, prone to all the dangers of disconnection and bad energy overload.

if you are trying to ground in a cold environment you need to physically protect yourself. do not walk around for to hours with no shoes on in +5 weather you will lose your feet. if you have an alernative method great but please be safe and mindful of the temprture so you don't get frost bite
My favorite is to practice Earthing at the beach. I also practice grounding by envisioning positive energy to enter my body as the waves flow toward me and pulling negative energy away from me as the tide pulls waves away from me.

This was a great video. I’m not a practicing witch, but I do yoga, l love walking barefoot, and I sometimes remember to shake negative or excess energy out of my body, either by dancing or just shaking my arms. I’ll definitely shall look into shielding. Everyone is friendly at work, but sometimes spinning loads of little details can get a bit overwhelming. I may not practice witchery, but I think the world would be a better place, if we all wondered more about the magical aspects of the mundane.

This was very informative, thank you. I'm exploring if witchcraft is for me, and was having trouble connecting, as I'm not spiritually or religiously inclined.
However as an introvert and high sensitive person, these methods resonate with me very much. I use similar methods to calm my mind and be able to deal with stress of daily life. I like how it connects psychology to a higher state of awareness of onesself.
I live in California, in one of the first cities to have quarantined. I've gone outside just four times since March in an attempt to limit the spread of a certain virus, and also out of fear of the people who *aren't* making an effort to limit the spread (i.e. not wearing a mask, or lashing out at those who do). As a result I've been incredibly stressed, burnt out, and disconnected from my practice. This video really encouraged me to get back into it, as well as prioritize self-care. Thank you, Olivia.

“As an introvert, sometimes I start out with less energy than other days.” As a guy on the Autistic Spectrum, I feel this deeply.
I ground before spells too because grounding can be an exchange. If you draw energy from the earth for workings, you won't deplete your self as much. Meditations are good for this type of grounding. And make sure to ground when done to rid of excess energy and center to not be too buzzy. Hype is good and natural but not anxious or sick.

Earthig explains so much why so always have the intention to take of my shoes when I'm on a walk. I also get really stressed during the summer when I have to wear shoes. Have never heard of Earthing before, thank you so much for mentioning it.
The whole earthing this I have known about since the early 1980's. In Scott Cunningham's Earth Power book on page 35, discusses an earth bed. It is such a good feeling.
Wow! I'm just practiced Centering and you are 199% right on how to center. I feel like I can hear myself again. Before I felt like it was so hard to hear just one thought instead of a zillion! Spot on dude!
Thank you for the information about cleansing yourself before you put your shield up. I usually put two shields up. The first one lets in positive energy, and the inner one blocks negative energy. The positive one is pink to me and the blocker is neon green.
I just did a powerful spell that wiped me out, and did some grounding after by eating some cookies from watching this video (definitely helped)
I'm a big fan a post-spell snack grounding.
Loved this video, Olivia. I am one of those people that lumps grounding and earthing together. However, I do both while grounding. What's funny to me, is the timing of this video- because I am actually editing a video where I mention grounding/earthing as a recommendation for daily practices :) As always, very well done, looking forward to the next video.

I am a natural manifest-or and I come from a long line of powerful, magickal women, but didn’t start any personal practice until very recently.
My first healing ritual for my nephew, I felt so drained and tired and I knew I over did it, energetically. What I didn’t know was *why*...
Now I know- I’d only ever heard of ground prior to casting, not after. EVEEER. So I would close the circle and complete my intention and be done.

Earthing is great and I'd like to encourage people to look up what forest bathing is. If you're not into walking barefoot, extending your arm and letting your finger tips touch plants as you walk by or instead of walking through, shuffle through piles of leaves, or you can also just sit or lie on a rock or the ground, feel and listen and my favorite....pet the moss. See moss? Gently pet it with a finger these are good techniques especially for folks who live in more urban areas and barefoot is not really an option.

So I’m just learning and have never heard of these things really. I get scared at night sometimes when I have to check in on my babies and I have always pictured us surrounded by golden light and it always makes me feel way better. Weird that it’s kind of an actual thing! Really liking your videos.
These are good points to do, sometimes even us older witches forget to do some of the basic shields when we know we are going into a stressful shield. Mind being too preoccupied and forget until realizing later. These are good things to get into a habit of doing. Thanks Olivia.

Every witch channel or tradition I’ve learned from has different interpretations of centering and grounding. However I think your methods make the most sense to me! I have been practicing for a year, and done some more advanced work like spellcraft, rituals, divinations…but I have so little free time now that I think it’s time to remaster the basics. My shield is always like a blazing fire (I’m a fire sign), honestly I learned to shield before I learned anything else because I’d had some negative experiences with spirits so shielding and protection work was the first thing I focused on
When I was little I used to sit on my floor and visualize mother earth growing roots from my body into the ground. That made me feel so connected to earth and safe. 💚
