    Great video interesting and informative. The added captions are REALLY appreciated. They allow the viewer to actually follow the route.

      @@hastingsdiesels No thank you! there are a lot of cab-ride videos, even just in the Greater London area where you are told the start and end and that's all. it doesn't take much effort to label even just the stations or junctions, especially useful where there are a lot of different routes going on.

    Came across your channel while watching "Old Skidmarks" channel who I believe drives class 66's that pull stone trains, really enjoying your work, thanks for putting up as much information as possible as it makes the journey so much more interesting "Great Work, Well Done"

    A mix of third rails and overhead wires in just 10 minutes video. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

    An interesting line.
    Have you any footage showing the stretch from Kensington Olympia to Clapham Junction?

    • @hastingsdiesels
      @hastingsdiesels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, no - we would only call at one or the other, not both: if we're heading for the North London Line we'll use Olympia, and if we're heading for the Windsor Lines we'd use Clapham Junction.

    Ye gods, what have they done to the once proud Olympia station O.o KO used to be a pretty good station and we used the motorail terminal twice a year which is now the car park to the left. Is the signal box still in place as I remember there being two, then one on the southern end of the BR and LT platforms.

      Think I am going to have to recreate this on my train simulator, sadly no Hastings unit but the AP class 205 RailTrack will have to suffice hehe as about as close as I am ever going to get a cab experience with a thumper lol

      Considering the state Silverlink left it in , London Overground have done a decent job on it. Sadly no signalboxes remain, also i didnt know there was a car terminal at Kensington?! I believe there is already a route of that on Steam :)

      The former car terminal is, I believe, the structure visible on the left when the video starts.

      Yes, there used to be two sidings with ramps for the cars to drive onto the flats, the passenger coaches would be on the main platform attached to a diesel from Willesden where it would immediately be swapped for an electric at Willesden. In the 1970's one of my fathers friends was killed there when a train shifted as he was coupling it and was a terrible night and me poor dad even tho on holiday being the ranking railwayman had to stay behind whilst we passengers were whisked off to a specially commissioned train from Euston and waited three days in the railway hotel in Inverness (at BR's cost I would add) for me poor dad to finally get away and it was a miserable holiday as you can prob guess :( The Kensington motorails didn't use sleeper coaches either but compartmented MK1's with mum and dad on each bench side with insanely itchy blankets and any kids on provided seat cushions for the floor, it was all terribly basic especially with the quite expensive even with PT reduction cost of the service. The terminal is mothballed I was told a few years back in that it only would take a small amount of work to restore it back into a carloading capability. Ironic too in that I lived when I worked on the railways in Sinclair Rd which is about 200ft from the station and often when working lates and missing the last Clapham to KO service don the HVV, get out the bardic and hoof it from Clapham to Kensington if no train from Stewarts Lane was able to give me a lift lol Latchmere Bridge on a wet and stormy night is not a fun place to be crossing, very scary.

    Araaa, my eyes 😣, looks like you were using a poor quality video camera at the time as the footage/foreground was juddring, not naturally smooth. Making it painful to watch ☹️
