Thanks for a great video. I used to live in Norwich with frequent travel to Liverpool Street so it was good to see a 'forward' view instead of the 'sideways' view as a passenger.
Thanks for this....I will be route learning Ipswich to Wembley and this section of the route I haven't been able to video in the daytime! Great that you have the names of Jcts etc too. 👍🏻
Once you get past the M25 it's amazing how close together the stations are . Used to get the train to Liverpool Street everyday , Stratford has changed since beyond recognition since the Olympics.
I remember this route back in 1998!!! The Clacton Xpress BRC309 Slam Door Train running on 25KV compared to 3rd rail BRC422 What a difference in power!!! If this Lolco is Diesel then i will be damned!!!
Absolutely bloody fantastic!!!!! :-D Thank you so much for recording this. Can't wait for the next video, hopefully that will be the North London Overground section (fingers crossed).
Being somewat tired before watching this,so relaxing the engine sound made me drift off a few times...lol reminds me of 80`s when we came back sunday night after weekend job in Reading Mand S doing the refrigeration,we had the bedford with sliding doors and sounded just like the 66 I fell asleep to the constant drone of the engine and slept all the way back to wales lol
Great video, excellent to see the route in so much detail and clarity! I’ve been trying to get forward facing video out of the Network Rail measurement train team for a while to aid training of some of our signallers and MOMs, but no luck so far, so this is a welcome substitute.
Some are quieter than others, depending what end I’m driving from… And the weather! (If I have window open or not)…😂 I’ll see what I can do for the next ones….👍
Great one having in mind HD 1080 quality of filming. And pity that it is not 4k as it would be of a much better quality. I suggest that you do them all 4k as they will be of better quality and as such will last longer. In my opinion it is worth to invest some extra eford and film them all 4k, on sunny days and when driving away from sun. Clean window is a must anyway. Simply as this is what it is needed to do good if not top video. It is this simple and demanding at the same time.
Enjoyable & interesting video. NB Hatfield PeverEl is mis-spelled. And a pigeon dies at1:00:01 so you can't say 'No animals were hurt during the making of this film' ;-) !
I know... Noticed it after posting. But it means removing the video, editing and uploading again... I guess the spelling mistake will have to traumatise all those affected for the rest of their days! 🤣 Good spot nevertheless. 👍
Weather permitting, I might do Wembley Yard to Stratford/Ipswich tomorrow… Watch this space… Possibly Camden-Wembley via Gospel Oak/City Lines in the morning on way up also… If bright enough! (5am)…
At 48:06 I see a speed sign with 80/85E. I've never seen the E suffix before, does it stand for electric? Do you know what trains it applies too? Thanks for the video!
Excellent video and excellent driving, keeping the speed up and using the downhill gradients to your advantage. I'm undertaking some work on diesel vs electric traction and the climbs out of Ipswich and Manningtree provide some very useful information for me. You averaged 56 mph up the 2.75 miles of Dedham Bank at 1:134 which is impressive (I wonder how well laden the train was and what the trailing load was?). Is there any possibility of you filming a return down trip involving the climb up Brentwood Bank? I'm very keen to get exact point to point timings from Harold Wood to Ingrave Summit. And do you drive Class 90's as well? I'm particularly keen to get some comparison timings between Class 66 and Class 90 up Brentwood Bank. BTW and FYI, I am a rail freight consultant!
Yes, do ECML to Doncaster via several routes and WCML to Rugby… Also cover Reading and a few other nooks and crannies! Lucky to have an extensive route card…
what speed were you doing? it seems to take quite a while to get from Ipswich and you are not stopping like GA trains do at Manningtree, Colchester, Chelmsford etc and they are quicker?
Enjoyed this. I was intrigued by the fact that you kept the power on all of the way down Brentwood Bank - is that simply because pathing is tight and you have to be up to 75mph (?) as soon as possible to get out of the way?
No, just getting up to 75 after climbing into Shenfield... Can be a bit of a drag with a decent weight... It more than easily reaches 75 pretty quick. Usually shut off about 65/70 and let the gradient do the rest (with some braking to hold speed)... Usually its us that catch the passenger services up when they stop...
Really enjoyed the video and looking forward to watching more. How many trains come and go from Felixstowe on an average day? Given that a lot of them go via Peterborough, and you passed 4 of them heading east during the run, it must be a really busy rail terminus.
Unfortunately not. I have limited space where I can position the camera. It has to be positioned out of line of sight and no intrusive for obvious reasons... But, ill see what I can do with regards to more detail and positioning in the future.
What a great pity there’s no sound. I understand that there could have been “administrative difficulties” in an engine fitted with some sort of radio system, but surely that could have been overcome in editing the film. Pity.
Cover quite a bit… ECML to Doncaster via various routes, WCML to Rugby, Reading, Cambridge and a shed load of diversion routes, nooks and crannies… Lucky to have a good route card…
Please excuse my lack of knowledge but the power appears to be 100% most of the time, does the setup reach a max speed and that's your lot so you have to keep motor full pelt?
With 1600+ tons on the back, combined with the gradients, full power is needed quite a lot. Although its good practice to cut back when you can as you don't get much MPG out of these locos! They can get along ok without full power but acceleration. to max speed does require it most of the time.
Yep, it's the Up Main. Not absolutely certain so don't quote me, but logic says the platform 2 track on the left should therefore be the Up Passenger Loop and the one on the right should be the Down Main.
Great smooth and speedy run, R.I.P. Pigeon.
I thought so, didn't want to rewind 🙈
Excelente video.. sigue subiendo mas videos asi..saludos desde Argentina.
Thanks so much for this text book trip I didn’t want it to end, so much to see all the way,got to be my favourite go to video, more please Mike.
Excellent journey thanks, the subtitles make things easy to follow your progress. Looking forward to further episodes.
Excellent film. Great quality. I have made that journey as a passenger many times so a real treat to see it from the cab. Thank you.
Thank you. East Anglia looking lovely in the late afternoon sun.
I absolutely loved that vid, the colours were fantastic, great work.

Really enjoyable video, decent quality and good amount of captions. Hope to see some more soon.
Thank you excellent video so clear feels like you are in the cab

Excellent quality video , thanks for sharing .
Great run....Thank you for posting!!
Great trip. Was amazed at how much of the overhead line equipment has been changed over recent years. Almost a case of re-electrification.
Always nice video cab ride
Absolutely bloody fantastic!!!!! :-D Thank you so much for recording this. Can't wait for the next video, hopefully that will be the North London Overground section (fingers crossed).
That could possibly be one to come soon... 👍
North London Line now posted…👍
Thanks, using this to help me learn part of this route 😁
Great video. Nice to see the flirts fly past. Nice views at that end of the country 👌
Excellent. Thanks for posting.

Plenty more to post over the next few days... 👍
Great cabride !!! James.
Brilliant!!! I was hoping someone would do this train journey. A still view of the train before starting would be good 👍
Sometimes its a case of jump on and straight away, especially in stations... But, I agree, it would be good if I could get a shot of the train.
Good to see Stoke tunnel is still as damp as ever.
Totally brilliant, thank you!
Another Great video, have enjoyed this one, only thing is, that I had to turn my volume up quite a lot to hear the sound
Some are quieter than others, depending what end I’m driving from… And the weather! (If I have window open or not)…😂 I’ll see what I can do for the next ones….👍
Should have said; that was one hel of a clear well timed run; presumably now waiting for Overground to pass.
Good one; with a video of this quality you deserve more subscribers. Let’s get to 1,000 for a start. 🐨🇦🇺
Excellent thanks for making these! Would love to see some 90 or 86 footage if you have any?
Working on it!
@@Freightdriver82 Awesome thanks
I work at Chelmsford station. 😀
The Shenfield Shark brake van is still there. Will it ever be removed?
Are the Shenfield Sharks still around, like Jimmy Smith and Soapy Johnson? You didn't try to remove them if you had any sense!

At 48:06 I see a speed sign with 80/85E. I've never seen the E suffix before, does it stand for electric? Do you know what trains it applies too? Thanks for the video!
Yes, the 85 is for Electric services. There is variations on the network at various locations which apply to HST, Diesel (D) and DMU's...
Excellent video and excellent driving, keeping the speed up and using the downhill gradients to your advantage. When ya washing machine goes on the rinse mode spin .thats the noise of the loco at speed 😂
Ahh Essex beautiful
Would love to see a view of a 745 or a 755
I don’t work with GA anymore so can’t help with that I’m afraid… Left when the glorified trams were being built… 😂
There is sound, but you need to turn the volume right up
At first I was thinking that the video was silent/muted for a call, but I realised I needed to turn my headphones up 😂
enjoyed your 1st now second aswell do you ever take frieght up to scotland or north of england? wud be great
Yes, do ECML to Doncaster via several routes and WCML to Rugby… Also cover Reading and a few other nooks and crannies! Lucky to have an extensive route card…

Very good, but, is it me or is the sound very quiet?
It gets louder as you go on!?
Great video, was this on a passenger train? .
R.I.P Pigeon @1.00.01.
When did you take this video? None of the recent OLE works at Stratford are there and that was done at Christmas
That was brilliant... I wanted it to continue... Looking forward to your videos :-)
Is there an option to see the speedo and other dials ?
Unfortunately not. I have limited space where I can position the camera. It has to be positioned out of line of sight and no intrusive for obvious reasons... But, ill see what I can do with regards to more detail and positioning in the future.
First class journey
Is this a class 66 locomotive?
What a great pity there’s no sound. I understand that there could have been “administrative difficulties” in an engine fitted with some sort of radio system, but surely that could have been overcome in editing the film. Pity.
There is sound?...
There's definitely sound!
@@Freightdriver82 There is, but the volume has to be up high. Great video otherwise
My hearing must be acute because I actually turned the bloody thing down!!!
what frieght do you haul ? on your routes can you say?
Cover quite a bit… ECML to Doncaster via various routes, WCML to Rugby, Reading, Cambridge and a shed load of diversion routes, nooks and crannies… Lucky to have a good route card…
Making the night shunt turn go a little quicker 👍. Look forward to the next one.

RIP Pigeon
what the center road called you are on at ipswich
The video mentions it's called the "Up Main", although it is bi-directionally signalled. Looking at the latest Trackmap (Quail) confirms this.
Yep, it's the Up Main. Not absolutely certain so don't quote me, but logic says the platform 2 track on the left should therefore be the Up Passenger Loop and the one on the right should be the Down Main.
1:00:00 poor bird!
Woodpigeon, I believe (or it was).
I clocked that as well. Would be in proximity to Ingrave Summit lol
NOT an endangered species, so no loss.
I noticed that too!
Was this video sped up? Or did you just give some Beans. So relaxing
All in real time... Some of our liners do get a bit of a lick on! 😂
@@Freightdriver82 haha it's brilliant.

What was the motive power on this run?
Class 66...

Take it this a 66?
Yes... Ill try and get some other traction on here soon...
1:00 poor bird
Is this a light engine move?
Nope a fully loaded liner. This particular one was 1654 tons...
@@Freightdriver82 Wow! I thought it was a light engine too by the performance!
Cool.
