I like to watch these train cab rides to help me relax and get sleepy! I miss the British country side, as well as seeing the cities, and the other trains. Now I live in the US, I go everywhere by car. I miss traveling on the trains. Brings back good memories! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻

I like to watch the first 3 minutes. It really is mindblowing how many trains are coming into the station. This is a terminus, no through lines. Just wow.

    • @John2Ward
      @John2Ward ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes, that's our Waterloo -- and several of the other London termini are similar. I commuted to/from both Waterloo and Victoria for many years, so for me all of that was just an everyday occurrence, twice daily in fact.

24 platforms servicing the most of the Western / South Western services. Platforms 1-6 are usually the local running to Wimbledon, Guildford, Wokng. Platforms 7-16 cover the Portsmouth, Weymouth and Exeter services and 17 to 24 are Reading services.
Not to mention, access to London Underground for Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & city lines.
It also used to house the Eurostar (Channel Tunnel), before the High speed line was built to St Pancras.

Thanks very much to the Driver and SWT for doing this. A cleaner windscreen would be nice but I still watched it all the way through. The last time I went into Waterloo was 2006 before I emigrated to Oz - can't believe the amount of buildings that have shot up alongside.

Just before entering Woking (on the left) used to be the Railwaymans Orphanage, spent around 18 months there in the mid 1950s (55/56) when my Dad who worked on the tracks got hit (lost half a leg) in Nine Elms Yard......near Vauxhall Stn. He spent over a year in St Thomas's Hospital. I went on to work at Waterloo in 1961 in the Offices as a messenger, and later on in the Building Dept'.......ended up as a signalman on the railway.....Crystal Palace, Hayes (Kent) Leigham Junction, and ended my days at Twickenham West Junction Signal box.

Only 38:10 in and I can honestly say this is THE BEST upload I've seen yet of a train drivers cab view of his jounrney. The view pulling out of Waterloo looks fantastic. One's heart must be racing though with so many tracks in front you, doubled up with being surrounded by so many trains coming towards you, at a stationary position, or at the sides. So much trust has to go into the signals. Absolute top upload 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

@ The video is great however I was transfixed on the streaks on the window. I really did enjoy the video and while watching it had a wonderful idea while watching the signals and rail route pathways. A total computer nationally controlled system where a driver typing in the destination and hit's the throttle and off we go and we should be non stop with sometimes inches apart from trains crossing each others destination path?

Like right at the end - goes through yellow signals and is stopped at red signal before tunnel mouth and a train goes past - was clear for that train but not him, as the other train comes out of the tunnel (end of it) his signal turns yellow and he proceeds with caution in to the tunnel and comes out, across points and into the station - end of video. 🤗

U will hate it 1st its uk railway company and will RIP u of before your train turns up 2nd it will be something outdated then it will run late then get cancelled and then u will be treated like shit by the companie like as if its your fault that journey was over priced, inadequate, outdated, slow, delayed and the end cancelled but her thay will see all of that as a good reason to then go strike
a public service ie police hospital ambulance don't go on strike
so why should public transport be any different????

Must say that the British railway system is o/s. So many good runs I've seen, like London Bridge to Brighton and back and Brighton to Bedford amongst others. Now this...... It is something to behold such heavy train traffic, moving at such high speeds. There's nothing like it no where else on this planet. Bravo.......

Sure calm his hyperbole but no need to indulge in it yourself. He may have said Londons commuter network or meant some sort of collective value and been fairly accurate. India and America?! Lol You can't just list a load of countries, some that may have busier stations and some may have faster trains and some better time-keeping (not sure what your "efficiency means here" do you? Surely if it means passenger journeys per population then there are not many places with more efficiency, see below). People hanging off the outside of trains in India to Japan investing in train tech because they couldnt compete with the jet age while most stations in other European capitals were built centrally to serve pan-European traffic from their inception. I guess you didnt know that the UK operates one of the highest number of High Speed services in the world even before building any dedicated high speed track? I am amazed that Stratford in East London is the 46th busiest station in Europe! That will only go up when Crossrail fully opens at the end of 2019. Then there is Old Oak Common in West London that will be an interchange between HS2 and Crossrail that will be on par with Waterloo which is currently the UKs busiest station and 15th in Europe. Can't imagine many other cities with a similar situation.
      From Wikipedia
The UK has the 17th largest railway network in the world; despite many lines having closed in the 20th century it remains one of the densest rail networks. It is one of the busiest railways in Europe, with 20% more train services than France, 60% more than Italy, and more than Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Portugal and Norway combined, as well as representing more than 20% of all passenger journeys in Europe.[3]
In 2016, there were 1.718 billion journeys on the National Rail network,[1] making the British network the fifth most used in the world (Great Britain ranks 23rd in world population). Unlike a number of other countries, rail travel in the United Kingdom has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, with passenger numbers reaching their highest ever level

Spammer Whammer - I’d be stunned if it actually went that fast, given that the class 444 is not streamlined at the cab ends - the wind noise and the interconnecting gangway/door bellows shaking in the breeze

Thank you for this, sir. Back in the mid-80s I had a lengthy freelance contract at TVS in Southampton and this vid' brought back a few memories of that early Monday morning journey.
I see the dreaded Northam level crossing is still there - four tracks wide with both docks and passenger traffic, it was so busy to gates (in those days) stayed shut for up to 20-minutes to let several trains go though. Not a bundle of fun when sitting in the back of a taxi, off to the hotel! Not far from there are / were the TVS Studios, on the banks of the mighty River Itchen, which had the uniqueness of having a rail line run through the car park. BR ran a train through once a year and there was a mad dash of staff to get the cars out. One year the annual train derailed and every one was covered in confusion. Man oh man, I could bore for England on this topic, so I'll stop-.
    I shall now sub.

Świetne wideo! Podobała się przejażdżka. Zawsze intrygowało mnie parę spraw... Każde Siemensy do pewnej prędkości wydają dziwne, oscylowate dźwięki. No i oświetlenie czół w Anglii zawsze było dla mnie zagadką - każdy pociąg ma jedynie jeden reflektor włączony (albo jeden włączony na "full" a drugi przyciemniony). Plusik leci, mimo powyższych intryg :)

12:11 - In the early eighties, 'someone's father' used to play 'Cowboys and Indians' with us, he would make bamboo bows, then dip the arrows in petrol, light and shoot them over Platform 3 onto the island platform(!) I loved getting the train from that central platform at New Malden, very rare occurrence. @12:05 - we'd dangle legs over that Alric Avenue/Dukes Avenue bridge @12:05 at watch the trains thunder through. @12:32 - wall on the right is top of the Elm Road bridge - you could climb up via the level crossing, sit on the wall, and watch the sunrise. Never any trains that would pass as it was so early. New Malden the most special of these great stations. A distant life that cannot be returned to!
