For the future, David, meat that is canned will always be cooked. They have to boil the cans to seal them, that is why canned tuna is always overcooked.
Yeah, you can't buy raw dead crab. If you want uncooked crab, you've gotta get the live boys and either kill them right before tossing them into the pot or toss them in alive because raw crab meat degrades/rots very quickly once the crab it dead.
The thing about NACS's recipes are that they are simple and focus so much on quality ingredients and technique. It goes to show how good something can be when you pay attention to the process and put love into your cooking.
Unless you buy fresh live crab it'll be cooked, because dead raw crab has bad shit almost immediately. Even when you buy fresh whole crab your options are cooked or live - they won't sell raw crab. In general any canned non veg food will be pre-cooked
Note: aquavit is available in the US. The Norwegian brand that is usually found in my local liquor store is Linie. Also note that at 8:33 the can clearly says pasteurized. That means it has been cooked enough to kill bacteria. So frying that can of crab probably did not improve the texture.
I agree….but he’s just following the recipe. =). But yeah you’re totally not wrong because Canned crab could never ever compare to fresh crab. I’m literally drooling
Once David started making the third one, I knew it would be my choice. I lived in Maine for seven years, and that is basically the standard preparation for a lobster or crab roll. Beautiful ingredients, simple preparation.
David, you gotta check out Not Another Cooking Show’s Red wine braised short rib recipe (I think STCG has one too for a potential vs.). Also from there, NACS’s short rib grilled cheese and maybe his nacho grilled cheese too.
I wish at the end of these videos you would take elements from everyone's recipes to do your own small personal tweaks. Not something that would need to be scored since it would be biased but I'd like to see the best parts combined
I knew immediately Stephen's was going to win. So simple yet decadent. It showcased the crab so beautifully. No herbs or spices to overpower the meat. I've been subbed to him for almost three years (I think his ceasar "salad" video was the first one I watched and subbed after in 2018) and he is just so underrated. I'm so glad he came in at the top. Truly deserved
I meeeean, David, come on. 6:05 You basically ASKED Gordon to roast you and then you proceeded to absolutely destroy that pasteurized canned crab 🤣 You're just writing the roast FOR him my dude 😮💨 lmao
If it's in a can, it's been cooked. That's kind of how that works. You're fine. Does your tuna can say it's cooked? Or your can of chicken? Some of us were latchkey kids in the 80s and 90s: You got home from school and opened a can of anything and grabbed a spoon and ate it out of the can while watching afternoon cartoons (GI Joe, Jem, and Transformers!) before your parents got home and made you do your homework.
Whenever David tried Gordon's recipes it has never win if I'm not wrong. Maybe it's also because Gordon's recipe isn't for average homecook skill. After 1-2 days the some comments usually point out what David does wrong with the technique to cook Gordon's recipes.... But anyway this program is to test whether a recipe can be created from videos alone, and Gordon's videos are never clear
yep! Finally bought some a few years ago and never looked back. When I first tried it I legit didn't share the entire bottle. My fam thought it was hilarious how protective I was of the random mayo bottle in the back of the fridge (we all eat it now lol)
@@Quarksi oh... I honestly can't imagine better mayo than common, non-Japanese mayo I buy (close to homemeade) but maybe it's because I don't live in America.

I love Martha she is one of the best teachers on tv. Going to jail did not stop her. She did more time than some men who have done far worse. I have made many of her rec8and have never been disappointed. You should definitely try more of her recipes.
David, I know you were joking about applying for one of Ramsay’s shows, but I would genuinely like to see that. Even just a reaction video of Ramsay watching your channel would be a sight to see
Very interesting comparison! As you said regarding Gordon Ramsey's recipe having SO MANY aromatic ingredients overwhelming the delicate flavor of the crab, perhaps he is so jaded, he has to ramp up everything to please his palate.
You can find aquavit in the US, although unless you're in Washington State or Minnesota there won't be a ton of options. Linie is probably the most ubiquitous beyond those states. It's delicious!
I didn't realize you were in the Hudson valley until watching this video. I went to high school in Orange County and live in Albany. I can't believe how much work you put into making all of these and how much you spend on all the ingredients!
funny how you just don't find king crab in the stores like ever in Norway despite the crab being caught here. As for the Aquavit(Akevitt) Don't worry, it tastes like cough syrup anyway

Raw crab meat looks like….goo. =)
Also to pick the crab it has to be cooked.
Yeah the crab said pasteurized
Edit: spelling
And the king crab legs--or any other crab legs--are also steamed before they are frozen. You just need to heat them up and not cook them.
Yeah, you can't buy raw dead crab. If you want uncooked crab, you've gotta get the live boys and either kill them right before tossing them into the pot or toss them in alive because raw crab meat degrades/rots very quickly once the crab it dead.
All three of Joshua Wiseman’s chicken sandwiches the Popeyes, Chick-fil-A, and KFC

Steven's is so clearly the winner. You can maybe try adding a smidgen of horseradish for the kick

Anyone who has watched more than a season of Deadliest catch knows what happens to a crab after it dies.
David is extremely likable. I watch his videos for his character not necessarily for his culinary endeavors. Please keep up and don't ever change.
same😭 been watching him for like years now and i don't really cook
Me too
yeah same. he also makes food like how id probably make them if i ever tried them lol
The only channel with videos I immediately watch when I see they’ve been uploaded.

The can of crab in Sam's recipe says Pasteurized, meaning it's been sterilized using heat. It's cooked.
Sterilized and pasteurized are not the same thing though both are safe to eat.

Put together all the best parts of each recipe and make the ULTIMATE VERSION!

Gordon Ramsay getting bumped down to number 2:
