I've said it before, I'll say it again. I really like the Signature Move Tier List, and I'm sad to see it go. I totally understand why you're making this decision. More work for less reward is a very bad scenario to be in. Just wanted to say I did really like this series and I really appreciate the work you put in to it.
I definitely LOVE this series and I'm sad to see it go, but I do also love this as a send off. I do understand why it's not going to be continuing, though. That being said, I'm definitely excited to see where things go from here! :D
The split between MockRock and MockRockTalk has always confused me a little because the latter has never felt like it compromises on quality, the MockRockTalk videos are still some of the most thought-out videos I watch in the Smash space on TH-cam and kinda feel like the split has restricted you to lower viewership/income that was never needed when it all could've stayed in one place. But I trust you've got a plan with the Signature Moves series concluding and I'll look forward to whatever's next on either channel
I find it funny how the Screw Attack comes before the Wave Beam and Power Bomb in Dread, like after Samus Returns Mercurysteam had to sit down and decide whether the instakill hitbox attached to an infinite jump should come earlier or later than the traditional midgame wallhack and screen nuke while whispering to themselves "this series is UNHINGED"
There are two characters who I think would be perfect for "Sad Story" videos, and coincidentally they're both from the same series. Zelda and Ganondorf were both introduced to the roster in Melee, and both fighters have radically different playstyles but have suffered similar fates. For each fighter, they were seen as near-unanimous bottom tiers in three of their four Smash appearances, with Brawl Ganondorf and Smash 4 Zelda each being considered the worst character in their respective games at one point or another, much like Kirby in Melee as mentioned in Kirby's own video. Between eight total appearances between two characters, only Melee Ganondorf and Ultimate Zelda have ever been seen as high as mid-tier, with Ganondorf being entirely outclassed by Captain Falcon at Melee's top level anyways and Zelda's overall tournament success being somewhat dependent on buffs from patches.
Hearing that signature move tier list intro knowing it was the last time was so bittersweet. This series was so creative and innovative, and its to sad to see it go. But do whatever you want to do man! Everything you come up with is amazing!
At least we got a last episode before it died, I’ll say I loved the signature move tier list and it’s a shame it didn’t catch on, but I hope your future videos can continue to be just as fun and more successful, man!
One thing I've always found weird with Smash's Screw Attack is how it only goes straight up. In the 2D games, Screw Attack is done out of a diagonal jump meaning you will almost always be going forward with it. Meanwhile in Smash you get almost no horizontal movement from it (besides that one custom move).
Considering the Screw Attack also appears as one of the better items in Super Smash Bros as well, I'm curious as to why it wasn't even touched on in this video
I considered this, but ultimately decided against it because this video is about Samus; the Screw Attack is _her_ signature move, not Mario's, Villager's, etc. I also didn't touch on King Dedede's Inhale in the Kirby episode, for example, and while I did use tournament footage of Dark Samus since it's functionally the same thing, I didn't discuss the fact that Dark Samus shouldn't actually have the Screw Attack in the Design section. This is the first episode (and last episode haha) where I had to make that call for an item, but I've always tried to contain the analysis to the character the move is a signature of.
@@littlebadassgaming it's more faithful to how it appears in 2d due to how it's initiated, and on Samus specifically her physics and kit allow her to abuse it better than most characters. It's technically less necessary by virtue of not being a movement tool in itself, but it leads to nasty combos that can usually end stocks. So it's literally the exact same comparison as 2d screw attack vs Prime screw attack (Prime's being Up-B in this case)
Main channel upload! It’s been a while. I like Mockrocktalks, but these videos just scratch a more formal itch that the others don’t for me. Keep up the great work!!
Too bad this is the last in the series for now, I feel like the longer it goes on and the more the tier list gets rounded out, the better each individual video would feel as part of a bigger whole! I always liked this series for what it’s worth, but I also like all of your stuff lol. Looking forward to what’s next!
No move more appropriate to end the series with, considering the impression the move has on the series, the fans, and its legacy outside of it. Thank you for your hard work!
It is a shame these videos don’t retain viewership as well compared to your other stuff because it’s extremely high quality as always and I would have loved to see more from other signature moves. But I completely understand your reasoning on canning it. I do hope this gets viewership though in general!
Damn, why do these underpreform, these are some of my favorite vids on the channel, well I mean all of them are my fave type, but I always come to watch these. RIP Signature moves vids, you will be missed.
Honestly I’m just happy to see another MockRock proper video. I’ve been watching all of the MockRockTalk videos (and they’re really really great) but nothing is like regular MockRock. Some of the best video essays on TH-cam.
I really like this type of series MockRock. I’d like to see one for Ness, though I can understand why he’s not a top priority given his only signature move isn’t even his most well known.
Beautiful series, congrats and thank you to sticking to it for this long when it was clearly stressful and financially dangerous for you. Hope you will remain satisfied with it, because I sure loved it :)
Letsgooooo, i love this series so much, i hope it keeps popping up from time to time, even if it's rarely when you have am urge to do it. Ik it's not the most well performing series but it's amazing, and if this is really the end, it's understandable, the rest of your content is also great and needing to play every game from a series to make these seem really time consuming
Man this was my favorite series. Sad to see it go but I really am glad by what we got. Hopefully we get something similar to this later. Great way to end the series though!
It is sad to see this series go but I 100% understand, it's not good business to pump time into something that doesn't make the profit worth it. Also, glad to have you back! I missed you!
Screw Attack. In most 2D games touching an enemy hurts you, but with Screw Attack the enemy gets hurt instead of you. In the old games this was a very helpful.
I remember you’ve mentioned before how you think Samus in Smash needs a fundamental rework (which I definitely agree with) and I wonder if it would be possible to move the screw attack from up special to actually being part of her jumps? It’d probably need some kind of resource management to unlock it, though…
The last episode? ;~; So much more iconic stuff to go over... And yeah im subbed to mock rock talks too and love your other lists but still think that you underate Seph's neutral b blue flare
I understand the reasoning behind ending this series but it's still sad to see go. I'd love to see a MockRockTalk video along the lines of "the other signature moves" where you rank a handful of other ones basically just on how cool they are like you do with the animations tier lists
Man, I'll miss the Signature Move Tier List. I was looking forward to this one for so long But I also understand why you're stopping it. High effort for low reward on your full time job is scary but... Man I'll miss it Will still keep supporting both of your channels though, you make great stuff!!
I like the analysis of design for smash bros and platform fighters in general interesting on this channel. like the patreon polls you do that lead to perils of playing and designing videos. or even something like the design of a character purely for it's gameplay. but analyzing a character and defining their playstyle (bruiser, heavywight, zoner, swordy, ect...). then how well they work for the one or many playstyles they utilize pros and cons. finally what they do that's new to their genre and a ranking in terms of overall design and fun value. I know this probably won't be used but I think it could be an interesting style of video. and this kind of content I would love to see.
I realize it's almost like relax alax know your moves series which I miss but I intended for it to be more focused gameplay execution more than anything else. meaning how well the mechanics and characters stand up compared to the game design of smash or which ever fighting game is mentioned. also this would be perfect for the base characters in rivals of aether and cover runes in that game too.
14:58 I think that this design decision is perfectly reasonable since the speed and movement of platform fighters means its significantly easier to get in on a character so these kinds of quick close quarter keep away moves allow the archetype to function since their disadvantage states are poor. Its this same reason why projectile Zoners are nonexistent in games like Tekken and Soul Caliber 3D fighters allow all the characters to easily side step projectiles so zoning is almost nonexistent.
Prime 2’s Screw Attack is absurdly powerful despite its awkward movement. In the original Gamecube version especially it absolutely shreds both Mutated Emperor Ing and the final Dark Samus.
As I said before, ‘tis a shame such an interesting and detailed series has to come to and like this but I completely understand that the time-effort-profitability ratio doesn’t make it worth it. I will however say I enjoyed learning about the screw attack in all its context and how that all ties back into Smash since I’ve been using Samus since Melee so learning more about this ability through your typical polish and well considered style was very good, as it was for all the other moves you covered.
So sad to see this go. This was my favorite series on TH-cam. It's more than understandable and fair that it's coming to an end. I just don't understand why this series performed so poorly in the first place. Like all of your content over the past few years, it was high quality, and so much effort was put into interesting topics.
Kind of a shame about this being the end of the series but I totally get why you're capping it here. It's been a good run at the very least Also when you said "the transition to 3d is infamously tricky" I am unreasonably happy that you put a clip of Bubzy instead of Sonic; I probably would have straight up lost my mind
I wish screw attack in the prime series could either deal more damage compensating for the fact that it's clunky and difficult to aim and too slow for moving opponents, or be easier to use with more turning speed and little to no animation lock when you come out of it. It could have saved Prime 2 from boring repetitive fights but it just kinda stops when hitting an opponent and does barely anything.
You didn’t play it , but the sound for the screw attack in super Metroid is quite distinct. It sounds like a dentists drill and is quite grating if you listen to too long.
severely underrating the prime screw attack here as an attack it's underwhelming in a lot of situations, but it can literally obliterate bosses like the emperor ing in prime 2 and in both games is frequently used to achieve gamebreaking speedrun strats

Man, this series deserved so much better... I have no idea why it wasn't a hit.
Yeahh ikr
Exactly
I guess it's way too niche to be a widespread success
A lovely send-off to this series and excellent as always. Great to see another video essay 🎉

understandable but really bummed we won't get a spin dash video

I’m a subscriber and I still didn’t know this video existed until two months after it’s release. Guess it wasn’t algorithm friendly
Thanks for the video :)

Video idea: Every character's funniest sound effect or voiceline.
Man, the 2D titles really carried this one. I feel like most of the stats given here would be higher if Prime and Smash Bros. didn't exist.
I know you hate how most zoners in Smash have great "get off of me" moves

Leaving this prediction here before I watch too far in the video - mockock complains about screw attack as an out of shield option
Don’t you love, yet hate it when noticing a TH-camr upload a new video and you act like you’re watching a Smash trailer? I do
ah damn, i loved this series, so sad to see it go
See ya space cowboy
Big day
Shoot a whole video dedicated to my main? Lfg
Oh right, you had a main channel
I got into this channel from the botw review. Is this mostly a smash channel?
Hell yeah screw attack!

Great vidoe
Idk about Ultimate (I'd say over all like B or A tier maybe?) but in 64 it's a god tier OOS option, really frustrating to deal with lol
hey man great video love the series

My thoughts on screwattack? Yeah, was a pretty good TH-cam channel before they rebranded
oh nah u cray cray
I've always been a huge fan of this series and am sad to see it go. But I understand that TH-camrs are ultimately beholden to whatever gets views 😞
