CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Gabriel Shear (John Travolta) pays a visit to Senator James Reisman (Sam Shepard).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director Dominic Sena follows up his stylish action film Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) with this high-tech thriller. John Travolta stars as Gabriel Shear, a charismatic spy who plots to steal a multi-billion-dollar fortune in illegal government funds. In order to make his scheme work, however, Gabriel needs some help from a computer hacker, which is where Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) comes in. Stanley has been paroled from prison after serving a lengthy sentence for penetrating the FBI's cyber-surveillance operations. Issued a restraining order that keeps him away from computers and living penniless in a trailer park, Stanley wants only to be reunited with his daughter Holly, who's in the custody of his ex-wife, now remarried to a pornographer. Gabriel and his partner Ginger (Halle Berry) offer Stanley the chance to get his child back in exchange for his help, but the hacker soon realizes he's a pawn in a larger operation than the high-tech bank heist he thought he was perpetrating. In the meantime, a dedicated federal agent (Don Cheadle), the same man who once arrested Stanley, is trying to expose Gabriel's operation. Swordfish also stars Sam Shepard and Zach Grenier.

Someone should put travolta and cage back in good movies again. It doesnt have to be masterpieces, just a solid good movie. I miss those.

The culture has been stagnant for awhile. I can easily tell movies, music, fashion etc... from each decade, but it has become harder in the past 20 years.

I worked on this film. We actually flew the entire crew to Bend, Oregon to shoot this. Funny story--Sam Shepard, despite playing Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff, hated flying. He drove his motorhome all the way from Kentucky to Oregon to shoot this scene.

Makes sense. Smith Rocks closest town is Terrebonne, Oregon. Seeing as it was the 90s, bend had to have been the only city/town with any amenities for lodging at that time and closest as well, about 35 miles. Sure is cool seeing that shot of Smith Rock and the Crooked River, I Hike there all the time.

Idk, maybe it's just me... but I would've loved to have sees a back and forth 25 minute debate between Shepherd and Travolta at that catch and release stream in the middle of this movie.

This is shot at Smith Rock State Park in Terrabonne, OR (though technically still within the Bend metropolitan area). So cool to see it in a big movie like this!

@@JudgeDreddMegaCityOne There's a size limit, but otherwise I don't think so. However, the area shown is far more popular as a rock climbing spot. In nice weather like that, there will be climbers all over the rocks. Not a good place to fly in a helicopter to kill a senator, unless you want thousands of spectators from all angles.
Love Smith Rock, one of the best places to hike and climb. All the Central Oregonians in this comment section correcting the location though lol.

This shot is technically in Terrebonne Oregon. Bend is about 35 miles south of Smith Rock (the geographic monument by the river in the scene) seeing as it was the 90s though, makes sense to say it was bend because bend was on a HUGE upswing in the 90s

I was on the crew ... we were in town for four days to shoot this scene. We all stayed at the Riverhouse hotel off Highway 97. Sam Shepard drove a trailer cross-country because he didn't fly, which I thought was ironic since he played Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff. :)

@Michael P It was a shrapnel bomb using ball bearings, indicated by all the small holes in the car (though magically not in the other cars next to it. He was ripped apart instantly and died just as fast.

If I recall in the movie (don't quote me I haven't seen it in a long time) it's a .45, so technically it would be a P220.
@@Laotzu.Goldbug yes... something like that....at the time I was also curious about the dual pistols in the tomb raider movies starring Angelina Jolie....those must've been HK pistols...😕 again, no confirmation....just speculation.... mostly because of the way the pistol grips looked....as you know, Sig pistols and HK pistols have pretty distinct grips.... nevertheless, slick pistols...not very practical though....with that compensator, it must weigh a lot for a service pistol....maybe the movie was trying to show us that John Travolta's character was a man of taste...not that the rest of the movie didn't....😂😂😂😂😂

so in this scene he is just chewing on the stoge, which we have seen portrayals in other films do, but they are always smoked down due to usage. they is could be done for similar benefits for chewing on toothpicks or gum, stress relief.
But this is cigar is unsmoked, if he is supposed to be chewing on the end, the device is being ruined for smoking as saliva will build up and render the stoge hard to smoke.
