    While I am very familiar with knitting in the round from making mittens, socks are a new adventure for me. I made my second pair (a long promised gift to my brother) using the shadow turn technique. Pair number three for myself, will definitely be done trying this method out.
    I'll also be sharing these videos with the group I belong to IRL. Thank you.

    Thank you for this great tutorial! I used it for the first time today, and the transition rows make it so much cleaner than every other short-row method I've used, and easier without the triple stitches. It's a great method.

    Thank you for such wonderful tutorials, especially this one! I love knitting this heel! It’s easy and fun and looks great! By far, my favorite heel. 🥰

    Thank you. I just finished turning the heels on my socks using the "twin stitch method" after watching your video. For the next pair of socks, I will incorporate the transition rounds. Again, I thank you for this tutorial. I love the socks in the video. ❤️ 😍

    Yay, just finished this variation on sock 1. Way easier for me because I am using 2 strands of fingering to knit bed socks. Those triple stitches on the original were difficult for me with so many strands. Thanks.

    This looks like a fun variation to try. I've been doing fine with your original short row heel tutorial but didn't love the triple stitch. Thanks.

    Thanks so much for sharing this technique! I'm already in love with shadow wrap heels, and toes because I can choose how wide to make both! With your brilliant technique added, I can customize for my higher instep even more👍❣️😘

    I would like to know how the shawdow wrapped heel and the fish lips kiss heel differ?

    How would this be done when using a contrast colour for the heel? Would I just do the 2 instep rows in the contrast colour?

  • @tamarasirk2666
    @tamarasirk2666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How can you make this work if you are doing a contrasting color heel?

  • @aquinnahsun
    @aquinnahsun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for this! I’ve been using the shadow wrap heel for ages, but I’m going to try this variation. I think it should provide a roomier, deeper heel overall, yes? I have a high instep, and this looks like it might work better for me. I’m working on a toe-up pair of socks now and will try this when I start the heel.

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally, short row heels aren't a good fit for folks with a high instep, but this could give you a little extra room. Hope it works out for you.

  • @nolawoehrle1500
    @nolawoehrle1500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The two additional rounds on the instep before beginning the 2nd half of the heel will make a stripe. What if you are making a contrasting heel? This color will then not be contained on the heel but show across the instep. Is there a solution for this?

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right. This isn't the best shaping option for a contrasting heel unless there's a way to plan ahead and work it into your color pattern somehow.

    Do you have a suggestion on making the shadow wrap heel with less depth? I find it has too much room for me and I have average arch height.

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want less depth, don't use this variation. For the first half of the shaping try having slightly less than 1/3 of the sts on each side of the heel be twin sts.

  • @sandracasagrande3825
    @sandracasagrande3825 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why are you calling them turning sts when they’re twin sts??

    • @thechillydog
      @thechillydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are at least 5-6 different ways to do short rows and each have a different type of turning stitch. In this tutorial I am demonstrating with twin sts as the turning stitch, but the overall idea of adding those 2 extra rounds between the first and second half of the shaping could be used with any of the other types of turning sts as well.

    • @sandracasagrande3825
      @sandracasagrande3825 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thechillydog I was just questioning calling twin sts turning sts. New one for me!👌

    It would have been important to understand what twin stitches, turning stitches, short row, etc, mean. I have no idea where and how to even begin. If there is a tutorial to explain the heel step by step, it would help those of us who are new to socks.

      Agreed. This tutorial is a variation for knitters who already have an understanding of shadow wrapped short row shaping.
