don't know what country you are in, but in my experience the trick with thrift stores is to go regularly. Since their stock changes so much, it's more of a treasure hunt than actual shopping.
@@Nerdygoddess in England unless you want to go all the way into the cities like central and Birmingham for the big ones, that are also super expensive, you have to stick with BHF or Cancer Research etc for stuff
I like how real you guys are. I'm totally fine waiting for the stump to dry out. Thanks for teaching me about the fringe. I didnt know about that. The wooden bead Garland was really pretty on the railing :)

I thought the tray was cute :) I think I would've liked to see it with a lighter color fringe though (the beige went well with the gold in the original but idk I think like a smokey white or v light gray would look better with the silver)
17:52 If the tray is stamped with a ss on it the it is sterling silver. Which is 92%+ silver (very pure) or it might have a number stamped on it that tells you its purity. Just google what the number means. Silver costs $0.57 us per gram today so weight your handles. They look heavy. I made a serling silver ring once and it cost me $15 of silver, and it was way lighter than your handles.
That tray is aluminum, you can see in the hazing on the surface which did not go away with the baking soda and water slurry polish. Also, the handles bent just with hand pressure, which is a pretty good indicator that it’s aluminum.
Im 92% sure its silver _plated_ and not silver. As someone who does jewelry, chainmaille and art with silver in different forms, that tray just doesnt look right or make sense to me. Also, you really dont see rivets in silver works.. So, they are worthless. Theres no way to reclaim just the plating. Or maybe there is, but its just not worth it. Sorry. In Europe silver is stamped with 925, usually inside of a rectangle. There might also be a makers mark, two or three capital letters (JMK)/particular emblem (used by only the bigger brands), and a year stamp, letter and number (H8). Plated items are sometimes stamped with SP925 or just “silver plated”. I cant remember what really old silver items were stamped with, before sterling silver became the norm. My selective dementia strikes again :)
Hey, just a tip! Don't tug on the fabric while sewing, the machine does that herself actually and tugging can break the thread, stretch the material, etc. Loved the video 😊
When you make pillows in the future, a helpful tip is actually to make the pillowcase smaller than the dimensions of your insert! That way it will look fuller and not be such a baggy fit!

I always love when you tackle sewing projects! You 2 are fearless about DIY and that is basically the entire premise of my learning, as well. Just 2 quick tips (maybe 1 and a technicality). 1. The "chanelling" that you refer to is technically a form of quilting and yes, everyone should mark out their lines before hand! (And use lots of pins) 2. When doing quilting, starting from the middle is usually a good idea so that you push the excess out to the sides evenly instead of all to one side. Helps to keep things even in the end. AND. Great job making the original piece larger than the final piece. Something a lot don't think about Great video!
I was so happy when you stopped working on the stump. My brain was screaming “you have to dry it first!” 😂. Not just to make it easier but so mould doesn’t form (which it definitely will if not fully dried). If it will fit, you can put it in your oven at about 200 for a while to speed up the process. 😉 just prop the door open a little (a wooden spoon works well). The bark would have come off so much easier too as the inside shrinks and pulls away from the bark when it’s dry. Good luck and can’t wait to see it finished!
Haven't watched the full video yet but here's a pro-tip just from watching the intro, a walking foot for your sewing machine would make quilting those lines much easier. With a walking foot, there are feed dogs pushing the fabric from both the top and bottom, you don't have to be pulling the fabric through and there won't be any accidental pleats and tucks.Theres also a metal guide so you can guide each line off the last, no need for marking pencil lines.
amaia I've been eyeing walking foots for a while, but my machine is not the newest and it's very basic, there's no same brand foot available, that is. So far I've been scared to buy blindly a generic one off Amazon, do you have any tips?
@@StellaMariaGiulia The one I bought was a very generic/non brand-specific 10$ walking foot from amazon and has been kicking strong for 3 years. Google how to determine if you have a low shank, high shank, or slant shank sewing machine, this matters more than the brand.

Great advice. I'd like to add that basting the project a little more would probably be helpful as well, safety pins or spray baste really don't take too much time.
Great video, really love the pillow! I used to have that problem with the bobbin on my machine ALL THE TIME. Then I learned there are a lot of things you can do to troubleshoot that. 1. Change your needle for every project. 2. Oil your machine for every project. 3. Make sure your needle and your thread are right for the type of fabric you are sewing. (I'd never done any of that....😬)
I love that pillow, so easy but looks so beautiful 😍 In my experience silver turns really dark, almost black when it needs to be polished and since this trey didn't have any of that black "coating" but still you could tell that it hadn't been cleaned for a while, I don't think it's silver 😬 might be, but I don't think so.
I refinished some tree stumps this summer! The tree it’s self was cut down 5 ish years ago, and the stumps sat in my classroom for 4 years. Over the summer I took them home, got all the bark off (it was so dry that the bark cake off super easily). I then sanded it with a palm sander and finished it with an oil. I was planning on taking them back to my classroom, but they may end up as extra seats in my living room instead!
I love the pillow! Might want to iron or steam (whatever works for your fabric) before sewing next time. I'm always impatient to get going on a project, but smooth fabric makes a nicer finished product. Love your channel!

The center of the rivet aka "the circle hinge thing" can actually be drilled out, so you can can remove the handle pieces. You would then be left with the hole for the rivet.
Wooow those trays like the golden one at 15:46 must be really popular because I just bought one today at a value village in quebec city haha. Those diy’s were good can’t wait to see the end of the wood stump!!
Hot tip for making pillow cases or cushion covers - make the cover 1/2 inch smaller than the given dimensions of the cushion - the tighter the cover is, the more "poof" the finished cushion will have. As long as you can still stuff the cushion into the cover, it's not too small! Edit: oh my lord ladies - better prep means better execution! Iron your fabrics and clean your silver *first* and the end product will look so much better!
Y'all did so good on the pillow and that tray was way better than the original! I actually refinished a tree stump and use it as a plant stand so I can't wait to see how yours turns out when you're actually able to finish it.
If you wait to peel the bark when the stump is dry...you literally just chisel one side and then you can peel the rest of the bark off, it will come off pretty smooth. Then just stain and add rollers if you want to be able to move it easier. (My dad and I did a bunch for our family cabin).
the little handles are fastened using rivets (a type of cold connection) and if that is solid sterling silver you might be able to repurpose it into pendants or something (if you're feeling adventurous) or you could sell it back to a jewelry supply place! If you google "scrap silver Rio grande" you can get some more info! I make jewelry so I know a little bit about it! Usually on the bottom of those trays there should be a makers mark stamped on it so you can find out more info about it and what it's made from

Amazing choice of craft ❤ I want to make all of them, especially the tray! I have also one tip, you should pin the pins perpendicularly to the futre seam so the fabric is nice and flat ❤
I love Pier One but I can’t afford it. The only reason I go in is to take inspiration photos. Then I go home and re create it. Most times the project piece is better than the inspiration piece. Sometimes the project piece costs more to make but I get the added satisfaction of having done it myself. I always bust with pride when someone says “you made that?”
You could maybe hollow out the underside of your tree stump to make it a bit lighter for your side table, maybe that would work instead of it being super heavy 💚
Gasp! Vintage hammered aluminum tray with handles removed...but darn it looked cute when it was done! I think your prices are great there, especially the fringe. Nice job sewing the channels, not an easy task. 😉
You’re actually going to have to preserve that wood in order for it to last forever. I have one in my home and it was professionally preserved and then coated with a protective gloss. Never had any issues with it, but for longevity I suggest preservation.
I have a tree stump from a tree from our old house and its been around for 10 years . Sanded but not coated or preserved and its fine. As long as its inside it will be good.
I'm not sure what you mean by preservation, but that's why this wood stump is so expensive. Wood needs quite long to dry out, commercial wood is often dried in very hot ovens (especially fire wood).
I do quilting and this is how I prepare the quilting. You take your quilt measurement and add on 6 inches to both the horizontal and vertical measurements. Cut out pieces with the new measurements for the batting/wadding and for the backside of the quilting (your back to the front). Centre your front piece or quilt on top of thre wadding and backfront piece. Safety pin/pin your wadding together a hands width apart. When you start sewing it is easiest to use a walking foot, it helps ease the fabric in and reduces your bobbin pulling the fabric in. Do as you are doing and pull the three layers taut as you sew. Sew slowly. If you want more help for quilting I'd check out Missouri Star quilting because she is fab and has many videos. Although she hardly pins anything and also sews standing up. I honestly don't know how either of you sew standing up. There is nothing wrong with your method, I just thought this info might help.
You guys should get a walking foot for your sewing machine, it makes going through tough fabric or a lot of layers really easy and they’re usually pretty cheap

Really really really love this series! The pillow case looks better than the CB2 one!
Your pillow is everything! 😍 Great job 👍
So much respect for you and your team! Love your style and the new loft look....need to go look for a tree stump now!
I'm 100% going to try the tray! I want something different and textured to hang! That will be perfect!
Love the pillow I couldn't believe how much it looked like the original. I'm going to make 1 for my bedroom.
Love the honesty - glad you left that part in 😊
Pillow case is fantastic, nice sewing skills, I’m like WOW
Great job on both of these. Also, you're great stylists. The photos of the finished diys are the bomb.
omg love the tray and the cushion, so cute ❤ just thought maybe if the cushion was slightly smaller than the insert, it would look more full.
I've been binge watching old videos of yours all week. Excited to see a new upload!
Great job girls! I can’t exactly wrap my mind around the tray but each to their own. That pillow was awesome!!!
The tray was definitely a transformation I wasn’t expecting. Deff gonna try it!
I have a bunch of your videos saved to a list I’ve created with intentions of recreating some things and I’m excited to get started.
Okay this was my favorite video in a minute!!! So obsessed with the pillow and the tray!!
I was so pumped for the side table I guess I’ll have to wait
I actually think the DIY cushion looks better than the bought version so good job!
You could maybe hollow out the underside of your tree stump to make it a bit lighter for your side table, maybe that would work instead of it being super heavy 💚
I'm pretty sure the tray is hammered aluminum--it was very popular in mid-century homes. Love the pillow (and the almost tree trunk table.)
I think that’s why they have to wait for it to dry, so they can preserve it
Lol! What does professional preservation of wood entail?
Right, they should consider stabilizing it with resin in a pressure pot so it's lasts.
Y’all look gorgeous in your fall colors in the intro! ❤️
I am totally the person that would love that tray! It's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Great job Kelsey and Becky!!
The fringe tray is stunning 🥺🥺🥺😍
Just found your channel today and ngl love that tray. I hope whoever received it 2 years ago adores it because well done!!
You guys should get a walking foot for your sewing machine, it makes going through tough fabric or a lot of layers really easy and they’re usually pretty cheap
I actually LOVED the tray, i didnt think i would but it is so nice, should i just hot glue a fringe on everyrhing from now on, cuz im tempted..
The cushion and de tray are....WoW! Really nicr
To make the pillow “fluffier” you could with a size up on the pillow insert.
i'd just put two inserts in tbh, need a good full cushion look!
