    It really does look 3D - I love the textures! This looks very relaxing to paint - sometimes on a nice rainy, cozy day at home, I love to work on something like this - no hurry, letting layers dry while listening to podcasts and working on other things in my craft room! Definitely bookmarking this for a few days from now - some storms moving in! Thank you, Karen - I look forward to trying my hand at negative painting!

      @@KarenRiceArt Hi again! I didn't end up painting this last weekend, but I DID finally get to it yesterday! I am just putting some finishing touches on it tonight. I definitely went too dark on the middle layers, so I am lifting out some color and then will go back and "tidy up," as you say, and add those wonderful extras like the white spatter. It is still going to be bit dark overall, but for a first try, I am pleased! I am amazed that I got at least a semblance of the 3-D effect! Thanks for the guidance!

    I've painted trees a few times, using negative painting; One of my favorite ways to paint. I will try pebbles like this, as well. Separate leaves could be colorful and beautiful too. Thank you Karen, love watching your tutorials.

    This is amazing, watching the pebbles emerge! Super granulating pints or Daniel Smith’s “genuines” could work really well - inspired! I wonder if there is the possibility to create a floral using the technique… 🤔. Thanks so much for this 🙏

      @@KarenRiceArt I'm letting the last but one layer dry as we speak. it's been really interesting and a whole lot of fun doing this. I used left over dried puddles of paint from a previous painting, so I've cleaned up as I've played as well.

    I’ve just started art classes and we have a project week as the last lesson. I like the idea of doing some pebbles but won’t have time during the glass to allow it to dry naturally between layers. Could I use a hairdryer?

      Yes you could use a
      Hairdryer. Wait for the shine to go before you use it or it could move your paint.

      Thank you! It all depends on the warmth of your surroundings and how wet your paper is.

      When I've done negative painting, using Arches, I let it dry a good one hour; I live in an area with high humidity

      Thank you 😊 A cast shadow is what we generally think of as a shadow. It's a shadow created by something block- ing the light source
