The best example I've seen of negative watercolour painting. Thank you so much for taking the time to slowly and thoughtfully show us your great techniques.
Very very nice..Thank-you so very much..im definitely gonna give this a try..im so glad i came across your channel..and i definitely love the lining..very nice..stunning..lol wwish me luckas im a beginner..so im also gonna Thank-you for being apart of my watercolor journey ❤️ 😀
You're an Excellent Teacher! Thank you for explaining this slowly and throughly. I believe I got this because of how well you taught us, Thank You again !
Excellent way to learn negative painting. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you for all the tips. I use my script liner brushes for exactly the same reason. I love the way they feel in my hand and the effect is just so finished looking. Don’t listen to your boyfriend, 😂. It is your painting after all. Blessings to you and everyone!
Thank you very much - this technique really takes a bit of practice, bit starting with simple shapes (such as leaves for me) is a really good easy to get started 🤗👩🏽🎨
👏🏽🥰 Thank you for this peaceful video. The music is so relaxing and calming. My eyes were at still observing your beautiful painting. The energy is flowing throughout my body and it is wonderful. 🎉✌🏽🎍❤
Thank you so much 😀 This brush is one of my favorites! I bought it in Japan and now I can't find it online - definitely buying a bunch more when I go back :)
Love the tutorial!!! I’m struggling with mine, somehow I lost some leaves, but I guess is because I can’t see them very well after the first layer, Thank you! This one was very helpful for me to see what I’m doing wrong
Thank you so much Elvia - I some times lose some details as well, it's okay to go back in with a pencil layer after layer because it can definitely get very confusing ☺
Very relaxing to watch you painting and inspiring too. I like both versions, outlined and before. Subscribed and looking forward to learning from you. Thank you
Hello Milo and thank you for this great tutorial. I adore negative painting but my results generally leave much to be desired. Yours is such a pretty card which it was so relaxing to watch come together. Best wishes from the UK - Marion.
aww thank you so much Jolie :) you are very kind and thank you so much for subscribing - I am always here to help if you have any questions about materials or techniques or anything, really :)
I found it difficult to stop looking at the drawing once I saw this art. Amazing, interesting, and joyful. Thank you for sharing.....!YOU HAVE A GREAT FUTURE AHEAD ❤️
Thank you, this is a beautiful example and good instructions! One thing I like to do, if it is possible, is to photocopy/scan the image when it looks done and before I do any more to it. For example, before you do the final outlining of this painting, you could have scanned it so you would have a digital copy of it BEFORE the outlining. That way you will have two versions of your work. :)
Thanks! as you build up the layers, the color gets darker and darker and to make the lighter layers really pop at the end, I use the darkest color possible without it being black.
Love Letters to Milo; The beginning of your video I had such a difficult time hearing you. I had to keep “rewinding” as your so soft spoken. First time to your channel and I enjoyed watching. When I was in art school I had to do negative space with charcoals, also oil pastels. Nowadays I just color on everything. Actually was taking a break from doing a makeover on a Barbie Doll that my 4 year old niece did a makeover on with a purple Sharpie. Tried removing with acetone which lightened it but smeared all over . Used acne cream as it has benzoyl peroxide which is a bleaching agent and it removed it completely. Had to do the process twice and I found on YT. Just type in acne cream to remove ink off Barbie Doll-It works! I have most of her done and put some sealer on to protect what I’ve gotten done so far. Just thought I’d share that off the wall tip for those of you that have mini little artists in the home💝 Will check your channel’s content. Thank you and God Bless You! 😊
Hey Tina, Thank you so much for your kind words - I am indeed a bit soft spoken, trying to practice more and improve :) I hope you are enjoying the content on my channel - Also, thank you for the great tips on the benzoyl peroxide :)
@@LoveLetterstoMilo Indeed! Watched 4 of your videos and they are all awesome. I am always trying to improve as well and look forward to rewatching and purchasing some more art supplies as that list has never stopped growing since I was a child. Yesterday my twin grandsons that are 5 years old had them painting their hands and feet to put hand and foot prints on the picnic table that I had prepped ahead of time with exterior purple paint. I like inspiring arts and crafts with the kids. They are Autistic. They like creating and building stuff(Lego, Tinker toys and race tracks out of scrap cardboard) which some of the strips of cardboard had black overspray paint which we used white and yellow sidewalk chalk to create roads for them to play with their cars on. Worked out great. Enjoy your weekend! 🌷🌻🌺🎨🖌️
Thank you for showing this technique in a very simple way. I will give it a try. Personally, I think the outlining ruins the effects of negative painting....but that's me. Outlining the top-most leaves might work, but underlining them all is overkill. Again, that's just me. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you so much for your feedback Brenda - I have actually received the same feedback from a few people - I think it was just me trying to always "finish" a painting, when it was really done long ago - haha!!
Hi Tobi, welcome to this wonderful world of watercolor! - Yes i am using a wet on dry technique - very important to let the paint dry in between layers, or else it doesn't work. As for the pigment, I start with a very watered down pigment and as I progress in layers, I add a bit more pigment each time - Hope this helps :) happy painting !
I don't see any negative watercolor . Where is it? Someone can explain me?if you use wrong way or for wrong purposes by wrong process and wrong person probably negative. But I still no understand
Hey Aida, Negative painting just means that you paint everything except the actual shape, so you paint the outside of the leaves in this case. you do it layer by layer and at the end you end up with many layers of paint that make the background darker and the light layers pop out - It is a beautiful technique. - Hope this clarifies :D

Instead of the final outlining you could add shading to the leaves where they overlap to give greater depth

Hi from Australia l wonder what this would look like outlined in Gold or Silver 😊
I recently bought a W&N Gold Ink, now I need to get on it and do a tutorial with it! definitely coming soon! :D
훌륭해요👍🏻
Thanks!! 🙏🏽👩🏽🎨
This is beautiful and soothing. What liner brush are you using, please?
Thank you Michelle - There s a link in the description for a Liner Brush you can find on amazon :D
Watercolor flowers
What kind of brush are u using to outline it? Couldn't u use a fine sharpie?
It's a very small fine line brush, but to your point, yes, I could have absolutely, maybe it would have been a bit easier - maybe next time :)
I used a smaller piece of paper and a smaller brush but I'm not able to blend the colours when I'm painting a layer
Thank you Anjana - Are you using good quality paper? that is the key for Negative painting! :)
I like it without outline too!...But beautiful nevertheless.
Thank you so much 😀 No outlines next time ! haha
I've done it. Where can I share it and tag you?
Aww thank you Giovanna :) you can tag me on IG love.letters.to.milo - :D
Did you wet your second layer?
I did not - Once the first layer was completely dry, I went it with my darker color and painted the second layer - hope this clarifies :)
Hi, How did original leaves turn white after you painted them yellow and blue?
They really aren't white, they have a very light tint of soft green - when watercolor dries, it looks much much lighter than when it is wet :)
What kind of paper are you using?
It's Arches cold pressed paper :)
What kind of marker are you using to draw your picture? It looks like it has two colors in it.
I am only using color pencils in the beginning and paint for the rest of the process - I am not sure about what markers you are referring to.
@@LoveLetterstoMilo What you drew your loose drawing with, it looks like a crayon with 2 colors of wax in it. Instead of a pencil I mean.
What color did you use to do the outline?
Hi Diane, i use a dark green, which is about an 8 to 1 ratio of indigo with cadmium yellow 💛💙
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Cortarage sheet for this?
I am using arches cold pressed paper - :)
Nice. Need a steady hand for that.
Thank you :) or you can skip the last step entirely :)
Love it! However, find that the look was much better without the final outline. That sort of kills the Negative painting look!
ha! yeah, I know, I have a tendency to over-work my works :/ :)
I would love to listen, but, the music is so distracting I can’t pay attention. I don’t understand the point of adding music to these lessons.
Hello mam,,I luv u so much why r u not try something positive painting...why negative....only ..plsss try positive painting and feel relax ,,light nd Positive...I think u will try positive painting...thnku so much mam....🙏🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
haha! yeah dear, negative painting is just the name of the technique - I'm always trying to stay positive :)
:)
Interesting. But it would be much better if we could actually see you paint and not just half of the paper/ half of the time...
Noted indeed! thank you for the feedback :)
I love this however, super frustrating trying to watch you paint at the very edge of screen.
Oh, I totally understand Tina, Trust me, it is hard to keep track of the camera, focus on the painting (so I don't mess it up), camera angles, paints, etc all at the same time for this one woman show - But thanks for the feedback, with each video I am trying to make it a little bit better.
