    There’s an edit error around the 12 minute mark where the clip of the ADAS alert isn’t inserted properly - it’s shown several minutes later in the next sequence but I placed it wrong when I was editing! Please excuse the mistake and my apologies. We’ll leave it as an Out of Spec goof

      @@xNYCMarc you mean the camera angles? Audios not out of sync because it’s coming from the main angle and embedded in that clip. The angles are slightly out of sync. Tight turnaround on this one for the schedule and sloppy edit. We’ve had three cameras in sync before I was just running on little sleep and not paying attention.

    Great video so far. Note, there doesn’t appear to be a clip at the 12:00 mark for an unresponsive driver. Honestly wondering whether I am missing a joke. :) Update: I see it later, the unused cue just makes the placement awkward.

    After 7 months of ownership, I got my first OTA update with my EQS 450+ yesterday. When I clicked on the update message in my MercedesMe app it said that the update was to the communications module to facilitate future updates. Only one update in a year does not put it in a Tesla class but is better than the ID4. The adaptive cruise control with lane change is fantastic and I feel like I have a chauffeur on road trips.

    Thank you for these Hogback ADAS tests! Currently choosing between a new Model X, EQS SUV, and a 2024 X7 with highway assistant. Which vehicle has the best ADAS system? Thanks!

  • @ani_b
    @ani_b ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yes! This is one of the reasons I love my EQS. Driver assistance just works in most roads and situations without being twitchy (like a Tesla) or finicky (like mapped roads, Rivian, Super Cruise).
    The GLS isn't representative of the performance of the EQS at all. So happy to see it take the top spot. 👏
    As for the few takeovers, did you have following distance set to the maximum? When you steer during a lane change, the car does disengage steering assist (but keeps DISTronic as indicated by the gray wheel and green box around the lead car). I think at least a couple of your points deductions were because you were using it like a Tesla instead of recognizing that it has different characteristics.
    Some answers to questions asked
    1. It is camera based for speed limit and traffic sign recognition.
    2. You can tell which lane line(s) it's following, because the indicator on the cluster/HUD indicate green for either or both sides based on the detected markings at the time.
    3. You don't need to wait and initiate a lane change only when free. Even if there are vehicles in your blind spot and it beeps, it'll wait and execute the lane change when it feels it's safe.
    4. The incident with the "sleeping" couple in the Ford(?) - EQS does keep distance from vehicles width-wise too. It probably didn't think it was necessary at the time, but it does react either by slowing down or moving to the side of the lane.
    5. LiDAR for newer EQ vehicles will be housed behind the rearview mirror, so yes it's sort of EX90 style. LiDAR at grille level isn't a good use of the sensor. This is why Google's autonomous cars have it above the doors on every corner.

    The GLS is a generation older NTG version so it kinda makes sense. They probably have enough hardware differences that DAPP performance in the newer system is better even though the feature list is the same. It also probably means that as a newer generation of NTG is released, this particular version will eventually be obsolete and the only way to upgrade would be to trade in and buy a new car.

    You kept saying that you wished that the car would allow you to go 5 mph over the speed limits. There's a very good reason why that's restricted: Many authorities around Europe have a 'zero tolerance' policy regarding speeding drivers. If they can prove that you are travelling even slightly above speed limits, then you will be fined and have penalty points added to your license. For example, I know several U.K. drivers who were penalised for travelling at 32 mph in 30 mph zones, a few years ago.

    Building your own charging network makes perfect sense. You can create a cool touchpoint with the brand that you fully control in terms of experience. And that touchpoint will be also used by competitors’ customers. Tesla has great tech and scale but the experience of visiting a supercharger is otherwise meh. Mercedes can easily one-up the experience by offering toilets coffee or even manning some stations. Scale/$$$ remains an issue tho.

      I think Mercedes in all these articles says the state of Nevada approved but that just sounds like Mercedes asked to me and Nevada said sure. It’s a bit different in Europe becuase they actually care, but at the same time it’s Mercedes and they have huge power over there.

    The transition to EV's has several inflection points, one of them being the ability to offer a number of vehicles in the realm of "average cost." We've seen plenty of $100K+ EV's that are beyond the reach of most Americans and will sell in comparatively low volumes, at best. Honestly, found Google hopelessly out in the Volvo & polestar 2.. they are just not geared deep into the needs of an EV as yet. It’s not only environmental information, but better integration with the cars system like battery, predictions. Looking to Apple for better competition.
    And in another amusing development they are getting into revenue share with Nvidia for high power semiconductors.
    This needs to be developed into a video. Cheers

    Yes no one drives the speed limit. BUT at level 3 merc will have to take responsibility for the accident.
    So I get your rating system. But there is a reason why they won't allow you to go over the speed limit.

      FSD has nothing to do with highway driving...FSD is for off highway driving. Enhaned Autopilot would be the proper test if you are talking about auto lane change.

    The visual representation showing the lanes and the cars on the screen always shows 2 lanes no matter how many lanes which is confusing.

  • @BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry
    @BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It didn't avoid an object in the road, it couldn't change lanes, it didn't bother checking that the driver was there for almost a mile, no speed offset option, the speed reduction was really fast (5seconds) from 65 to 55 if someone was following closely they probably would have ended up on your bumper, @31:15 it got itself stuck behind a vehicle going well under the speed limit and you have to take over manually..., No deductions?

  • @Rei_n1

    The warning test likely needs some tweaking as I suspect the warning delay might depend on the “difficulty” of driving (busy road, turns, etc.) and/or any attention detection mechanism

    • @ichigo19870
      @ichigo19870 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 130 km/h (80mph) version is not yet available in Germany. And it is possible that only new cars will be able to achieve that speed because they might need new hardware for that and there will be MANY rules and exceptions the system has to follow unlike in the US I suppose.
      So at the moment it’s still max. 60 km/h in a traffic jam situation.

    Wide lanes with Tesla's on highways are SO BAD. Talking on ramps and off ramps.
    FSD (non-highway right now) is so much better at "reading" the space and being more natural, but classic AP on highways (hasn't changed much in a few years) is so hokey when driving past those spots. Hope they get FSD stack on highways soon.

    • @outby50
      @outby50 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a notable one along the front range of the Rocky Mountains west of Denver, Colorado. This test crosses it on Interstate 70.
      (Edit: technically, I think it starts just west of the landform it's named after. If you look at the intro, part of the hogback is the visible ridge line on the left of the scene. Colloquially, the stretch of I-70 from the Morrison exit, where this test starts, to just east of Idaho Springs, where they turn around, is known as "the hogback".)
      (Edit 2: 16:00 and 50:38 or so both show the roadcut through the hogback clearly.

    • @outby50
      @outby50 ปีที่แล้ว

      TH-cam keeps eating comment with the answer. A “hogback” is a geologic landform. Wikipedia tells more as do other sites that I mention and comment disappears.

    I really think all of the driver assist features should try to keep driving safely, and never stop in the road. And always be on, too, but be able to be overpowered easily by the driver. It would just be a lot safer than all the different ways they just give up, or be off when the driver thinks it's on.
