The Greatest Start to an MLB Career Just Happened

  • In 2023 the Toronto Blue Jays season looked lost. Star players Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer as well as the rest of the lineup were underwhelming offensively. Which was something that carried over to the playoffs with just 1 run scored in 18 innings. However, one man gave his all to change the fate of their season when he was called up in early August, that man was Davis Schneider, and he had the greatest start to a career in MLB history...

Schneider won my jays a few very important games late in the season, really helped on the way to securing a wild card. Really hoping they give him a chance this year. He could be a decent depth option

      I'm a fellow Jays fan!
I knew I had to make a video on him, he was awesome to watch!
He should see ample amount of plate appearances this season being a lock to face southpaws and the fact that Jon Schneider seems to like him as a LF as well, personally I'm not as big of a fan of that but it will get him into the lineup more frequently which could definitely be a good thing!

@3-0Greenlight I don't mind him being a 4th outfielder considering the depth the team has at the infield positions. As long as he gets a chance, I'm happy.

@@miken8889 According to baseball-reference, he did not receive a signing bonus. If he did, it was very little since their 10th pick received only a $5000 signing bonus. Also, minor leaguers don’t get paid a lot. On average, Rookie league players only get $5000 per season. Low A make $11000, and high A make $15000. AAA makes $17500 to $35000 with the higher salaries usually going to veterans. Granted, I would love to be paid that much money playing the game I love for half a year, but you can’t make a living earning only that much money.
Yeah, it’s guaranteed money, but it would be very difficult to find a good paying job without a degree if baseball did not work out.

I'm a Jays fan and can't say I really care for Schneider. He took pitchers by surprise, they weren't game planning for him till they were. And saw how bad his 0 for went for after they did. But I still remember him shaking his head at Vladdy for not tagging up at 2nd to 3rd. It was a clutch moment and jays were down by 1 I think so Vladdy was wanting to score if the ball dropped but didn't. It was one of those tough plays to read but could see what Vlad was thinking. Anyway a rookie player to shake his head essentially at a Veteran. Vlad has been in MLB for 4-5 years and in ball his whole life so while he's super young I think its safe to say he's a vet. And rookies coming up shouldn't be shaking their heads at the teams star players/vets like that. Davis got a big head from his super hot start and it showed that day.

I’m not sold on Davis Schneider. Once pitchers made adjustments he looked lost at the plate. Watch how often he chases breaking balls in the dirt.
He had an incredible start but now has to prove it was real. I’m skeptical

2 starts and two HRs including a clutch game winner tonight. Has the highest OPS on the team again lol. it's early, but Davis has been putting in incredible work, and doing what they ask of him in terms of striking out less and making contact - not jazzed with the 2K's tonight, but he sure made up for it.

Schneider had a great run but he's a pinch hitter at best. May not even break camp with the Jays in 2024. His spring has been brutal. (.200/.306/.739)

0-31, you're right he had a tough go of things. I don't think that takes away from his ability to hit lefties which was shown even on the final day of the season when he had 2 doubles off the Rays southpaw. In total his OPS against lefties was about 1.300 compared to against righties around mid .800s. He will without question be in the lineup every game against lefties and be a big producer. It's the righties who as you said, found how to pitch to him well. It'll be interesting to see how he fares with a full season under his belt.

@@3-0Greenlight no I mean there’s so much useless info in this video, I think you focus too much on the small stuff for example the Red Sox headlines and Swansons stats, sure it’s interesting but what does it have to do with Davis Schneider? Any players big game can lead to big moments. Always remember WHO is watching, WHY are they watching, WHAT are they watching for. I think you just need to cut off the fat and this could’ve been a great video. I’ve worked in media a long time and I think if you find an interesting and specific point and or storyline to follow, it’ll end up making your videos shorter, tighter and something that’ll keep the eye of the viewer.
