- At the start of the 2023 season there was not much hope for the Arizona Diamondbacks other than to continue to develop some of the games most intriguing young players. But just like the 2023 Orioles, they performed earlier than anticipated and managed to squeak their way into the playoffs as the second Wild Card team where they would go on to become one of the unlikeliest World Series teams in MLB History...

As a D-backs fan, it was exhilarating to see my team get all the way to the WS, something I thought wouldn't happen for a long time since the first time they did I was too young. I've always been a casual sports fan, but this run has made me keep a finer eye in sports (especially in regards to baseball). And I hope that we get our 2nd dub soon, even if the bullpen sucks right now (but hopefully the kinks will be worked out by the later months).
You can't tell me it isn't an interesting story to see that both teams had a very similar path to get to there and that's also the Rangers first World Series
Cubs fan---the DBacks postseason run last year was brilliant and I respect the hell out of them. They are a feisty team.

The breakdown of the Kimbrel-Marte matchup at the end of Game 3 is a great example of how statistics don't always tell the whole story. On paper, it seemed quite unlikely for Marte to get a hit after falling behind 0-1. But in the real world, everyone and their mother knew that the guy on a monster hitting streak was going to walk it off against the perennial choke artist.
If Madison Bumgarner did well. The Dbacks would have won the World Series.
Watching this now is giving me refound hope in this year… our team is so good on paper we just have had injuries and can’t piece good pitching and good offense together

Honestly it's incredible the fact that both teams that made it to the World Series in 2023 both have a similar path to get to that point
You can’t compare the 2022 Phillies to the 2023 Diamondbacks. Phillies went on a tear after Girardi, finished with 87 wins and didn’t have a negative run differential.
The talent levels and expectations were different as well. Heck, the Phillies were supposed to be at minimum fringe playoff contenders the moment Bryce Harper stepped foot there in 2019 but they always kept underachieving. Really the 2022 season was the year they finally didn’t mess up for once.
I'd argue an .844 OPS is better than "solid" but that's just semantics

Easy answer to title is MLB Wild Card. Get rid of wild card and no D-Backs. They ruined the playoffs for every one. At least they didn’t win and make a joke of the entire system although that might have gotten MLB to wake up and undo this not well thought out playoff structure

no dbacks getting to the world series didnt change the entire mlb. the dbacks have already won a world series. the dbacks wont repeat this year. too early to call anything at all
