What he is trying to say is that ovals are too geometrical to be used for anatomy. The shapes of our muscles are not spheres or ovals, they have this specific dynamic shape that can be created using a combination of this asymmetrical triangle shape thingy. This gives the drawing a less symmetrical-stiff look and more of a dynamic-anatomically-correct look. PS: i know you commented as a joke, but just in case someone wanted to know why. This is the best i can try to explain it, but its better to try it out yourself and see.

The first five minutes of this are so abstract and makes no reference to any drawing that it feels like a parody of formulaic tutorials.
I spent so long confused lmao
Nice profile pic
alain marroquin thanks
Also I disagree. It’s a general rule that doesn’t need a case study
Thankyou! I thought i was loosing it, like what is he talking about?
Dude disrespects the name of the scalene triangle.
But deffo using this tip next time I draw. Thank you and your dog!
Is that actually a cigarette? Why’s it so floppy lol? I spent the whole time watching that and being annoyed
I think it is an eraser lol
You get used to it, don't worry-
It's floppy because it's broken. It's part of his character
😭
i dont know why
the cigarette hanging out of his mouth
*makes me very angy*
Hmmmmmmmitmakesmeangrytoommmmmmmmm >:(
Limp cancer sticc
It's a good thing you didn't notice he put it into a pipe at the end of the video then
SAME ;^;
Yeah ditto
At first I was like: "I'm soooo lost rn."
After a few mins: "HOLY SHI- I LEARNT!"
You mean you LZARNT
Please don’t stop making video’s Ethan! Your advise is so helpful and you are doing it in the most fun way! 😭
"Dont use ovals"
- draw an egg without a oval.
From wikipedia: An oval (from Latin ovum, "egg") is a closed curve in a plane which "loosely" resembles the outline of an egg.
Oops
@@icanseeyou9820 Checkmate atheists
Eggs are not oval though. Remember Gulliver's travels? The narrow tip and the larger side?
Ovoid. :)
A:Why you shouldn't use ovals, because they're wrong.
B: Why are they wrong?
A: Because they represent indecision
B: Why are ovals indecisive?
A: Because they are wrong...
@@zinc2zinc2 I honestly don't even think his problem is with shapes, it's with where you're placing the weight in an image.
Triangles are inherently geometric, but they have a dominant side.
I actually like the video a lot but he's talking in circles a lot (or ovals HAH)
I'm not an artist or an art student, but it seemed very clear to me that the answer to "why are ovals indecisive?" is "because they don't determine a dominant side/direction".
@@axellis8333 in my opinion simply everyone learns different ;=;
I seriously dislike when someone says something *IS WRONG* like bruh... we all learn differently ;=;
@@zinc2zinc2 Then a more effective way to title this video, and its content is, "never use ovals for ANATOMY" brb, gonna go draft a Boeing 747 fuselage in the shape of a fuckin lemon slice lmao

Me: Starts off every drawing with ovals....
This video: I’m about to end this whole mans career
@Just Here that's not really the point he means don't draw using ovals as guides not drawing ovals for stylistic reasons
You mean START this man's career
I feel like all my art is a failure now because I always sketch arms in a long oval shape to make them look right....
Lmao why are ppl getting upset over this video on Twitter, this guy is pretty wholesome and smart
You answered your own question... It's Twitter, that's why
"Don't you ever draw ovals!"
Me: ⏢
So, when you use the triangles with a dominant side and make mistakes, you've learnt.
When you use ovals, you learn't.
💡
"Oh btw this is my last video"
"Well thats for another video"
"Why dont you take a second, ring that bell-"
Wh-...huh?
Exactly what went through my head. Lol
I’m confused as well

Well, there's artists much better than him (I've checked a lot of his art to be sure) using ovals, so I'm gonna just trust them because he looks like he he's an average self-taught artist.

@@griin6 Yeah, and that's stupid. Learning the wrong way to do things just creates bad habits you have to break later.
School: Use ovals when making your art
Ethan Becker: Actually no, don't use ovals
That was mine experience when I was in two different art classes. So now Imma have to try out this technique and see how I like it.
How'd it go?
When you're character is an actual oval.
*shotgun noise*
Just make it a pear. Problem solved
I'd like to imagine Ethan as the Gordon Ramsey of poses when he sees one he doesn't like.

You’re helping so many young artists or anybody that wants to improve
Honestly, as an animation student, WHO didn't get into drawing until his senior year of high school, I've struggled to make up for lost time, as most of my peers have been drawing since Middle School. Now I've made a lot of progress these past 3 years, but for a while I've felt like my art has been stagnating. Thankfully, after binging a lot of your videos, I can now see how I can improve, to take my work to the next level. So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Here's to further improvement!

this should be called,
the *G U C C I* triangle
this is actually the best piece of art advice. i watched it like two years ago, and it sat in the back of my mind and has impacted my art a lot without me even trying that hard. lets go triangle gang. confidence, tempo, thinking in 3d space, being ok with abandoning failures, referencing ... some of the best things ever to learn in illustration
yo your eyelashes are longer than my lifespan
Lol yes he has baby eyes. I also spit tea the first time I saw one of his videos
Lowkey got distracted bc his eyes are just b e a u t y. Other than that i learnt a lot from the beautiful eyed guy
Now that you mention it...His eyes are fucking gorgeous, my god! I wouldn’t want him to look at me, but I’d love to stare at them while he looks away.

I never noticed how I've always been naturally inclined to draw triangles but on bad days I ovals find themselves in the work and that's when things start to not fit.. mind-blowing video. Thank you so much for the wisdom 🙏🔥☝️🏆
