They really did us a disservice in removing the Hiigaran defense command chatter I the remaster
“Children of Hiigara, you are beaten, return the core and I shall spare your…”

I never played homeworld myself, but interesting story from Homewolrd's games including cataclysm. So I sort of get the the jist of the whole story including EONS before Deserts of Kharak.
    Homeworld 1:
In the beginning, the Progenitors come to Homeworld's galaxy and build its three cores, Sajuuk, and the Eye of Aaran in Homeworld 2. But eras go by and the Progenitors disappear, leaving behind great derelicts and new empires to succeed theirs through different factions throughout the galaxy. This is where the Bentusi come in to find one of the Hyperspace cores left behind from the Progenitors. With their found core, the Bentusi establish its Trade Routes, but create unrest from the subservient subjects of the routes. This all changes when the Hiigarans find thier core from the same wrecks as the Bentusi found theirs. but with the Hiigaran's, they launch an attack on their most hated enemy- the Taiidan and destroy their home planet. This forces the Bentusi to step in and wipe out the Hiigaran armada that destroyed the Taiidan homeworld. All but wiped out in the final battle with Bentus, the Hiigaran flagship sacrifices itself to crash on its' homeworld's moon to protect their core, which is believed at the time to be destroyed in the crash that scars Hiigara's moon from an epic explosion. The Taiidan then seize this opportunity to mass retaliation upon the Hiigarans. Entire planets are bombarded into destruction or submission to the Taiidan until Higara itself the only planet in the Taiidan's way. In an effort of mercy however, the Bentusi reach a agreement with the Taiidan they grudgingly accept. Hiigaran survivors are sentenced to exhile from homewolrd to Kharak, using a convoy of sub-light ships to there. Shortly before departing however, the Hiigarans-now Exhiles to their homeworld, recovers their core from the scarred surface of the Angel Moon, as well as a stone that would become the Guidestone to one day aid the Exhiles's return to their homeworld. Just as they leave their home system, the Taiidan come to claim Hiigara as their new imperial palace, excecuting many Hiigaran citizens especially their leaders and relatives of those who involved i nthe destruction of Taiidan, leaving many other citizens forced into submission of the Taiidan. As for the the Bentusi, they renounce their military prowess and become enigmatic traders throughout the galaxy. The Exhiles meanwhile travel across the galaxy for generations before finally reaching Kharak, losing many of the original convoy in the process. Some break off when it reaches the Kadesh Nebula, with one such ship deciding to hide here and eventually become the Kadeshi ; they build needle-shaped motherships from the wreckage of passing ships in the nebula. this becomes Kadesh religion as it became forebidden to shiping even to Taiidan. While the Kadeshi came to be, the last of the Exhile convoy finally reach Kharak ,and crash land on the desert world. the last of the convoy is nearly lost.Only one ship survives planet-fall which becomes the first city of Kharak. It is named Khar-Toba-the first city of Kharak. The survivors of its' planetfall use its hyperspace core as the city's power , and the ships's hull as it's' foundation. The complete city is deep underground emblazoned with the Hiigaran symbol, containing both the Guidestone and Hyperspace Core for its decendants to one day find. Over time, the first city of kharak falls, forcing its inhabitants to journey on a perilous trek through the great deserts to temperate regions of the planet to found the KUshan.Over time, the founded kiith forgot their origins, and Khar-toba fell to myth by such time as the clans war over each's dogma. That changes beginning with the Age of Reason, where Kharak's most advanced kiith usher in era of peace and cooperation in the north frontier. However, the era known as the Heresy Wars destabilized Kharak's ecosystem, causing the deserts to rise each year. This necessitates the most powerful kiith to form coalition with each other, beginning with a massive desert barrier project called Stormbreaker. The Gaalsien attack this project, forcing the kiith to build military installations to protect the project. The Gaalsien forces are eventually defeated for Stormbreaker to complete , setting the North Coalition in stone whose expedition would find their people's origins on Kharak. This begins with discovery from satellite detected an object under the sands of the great desert deep inside Gaalsien terrtitory. An expedition called Operation Khadiim is sent to find and retrieve the object. What it finds is atonishing; an ancent starship buried in the sand, holding the Kushan origins on their homeworld...
The events of the first game plays out from there. Which is epic from beginning to end.
Then there's Cataclysm; 15 years go by from events in the first game. The Taiidan Empire is fractured in two factions; one of Imperial loyalists, the other the new Taiidan Republic. Meanwhile on Hiigara, the Kushan establish themselves, but constantly attacked by the the Taiidan, necessitating the Mothership to be used as a shipyard with Hiigara itself still recovering from its constant battles. Looking for an advantage, Sometaaw come along to assist the battle in first mission. While recovering a lost destroyer from the battle, it finds an alien pod for the Sometaaw to research it aboard Kuun-Lan. Unfortunately, this wakes up a new alien threat called the Beast that infects the research ship and a fleet of Turanic Raiders. Fortunately, Kuun-Lan is lucky enough to escape this first encounter and eventually find a way to stop it's spread. This eventaully leads to discover the Taiidan are behind experimenting/collaborating with the Beast. So the Sometaaw find a an abandoned Seige Cannon to destroy the Beast mothership. Unfortunately, first test fails to destroy the mothership sent after it, forcing it to flee and seek the Bentusi's help to fix the Cannon. However, the Bentusi are fearful of the Beast's spread in the galaxy, and intend to leave. Kuun-Lan stops this by destroying the Bentusi's gate, causing them to attack the Sometaaw mothership. In a breaking moment, the captain exclaims the Bentusi to cease fire for the Bentusi to help the kiith against the Beast. With that, Kuun-lan finds the Beast's origin in the galaxy, which it enentually destroys in the final battle. This cements kiith Sometaaw as Beast Slayers for eras to come after the Beast's defeat. An ending that's better than 2.
Then there's the least interesting of the homeworld games...
Homeworld 2; Over 100 passed since the first game. While the Hiigarans finally reestablish their empire they lost long ago, a new threat has emerged; Makaan and his Vaygr forces who found the 3rd final Hyperspace Core left by the Progenitors. With the Vaygr core, Makaan launches a massive campaign to aquire the other two from the Bentusi/Hiigarans. Karen S'jet- Sa of Sa's/Hiigara's savior in first game-decides to build a new mothership to enventually confront Makaan.Unfortunately, he' unbound as well, and attacks both homeworld and Pride of Hiigara just as it's launching, housing it's core Makaan wants. The Mothership escapes Tanis just as it's destroyed ,eventually reaching Vaygr space to find ancient relics to confront Makaan. The Mothership is nearly too late to stop his ultimate goal before both flagships clash in the battle for Sajuuk- a massive god warship. The Mothership destroys Makaan before he can use it, then transfers all three cores to awake Sajuuk to lift the Vaygr 's seige of Hiigara. Just as it arrives, three doomsday weapons appear to destroy the planet too imgranable to stop other than by Sajuuk's beam. The planet killers aredestroyed leaving the Vaygr to retreat in their wake. I won't bother telling after that...it's not to interesting anyhow.

I love that now that Deserts of Kharak came out and they remastered it, they gave it a redesign. The old one had a kitbashed modern-day tank with a long barrel.

    its a good continue.
homeworld brought a very strong story.
homeworld 2 made a good continuation of how it could go.
    it also couldve been peace.
but meeting Vaygr was just my dream, just a very cool style of ships i loved.

I feel the original cinematics are way better.
The seemless transition from cinematic to ingame graphics of the hyperspace core, the radio chatter of the Hiigaran planetary defence or Karan saying "This is the Gate of Balcora, the path to Sajuuk." for example.

Not as good as Homeworld, but still amazing.

I Find the core in kushan hands after exile to be a massive plothole - because thik of it - Taidan exiled Kushans to the edge of the galaxy and forbid them to create Hyperscpace tech - so its utterly stupid to think Taidans would allow Kushans to keep their core in/during exile.
As for the hypergate system thing at the end i found that to be extremaly corny way to make an ending.

The gate keeper of sudjuuk or the dreadnought? I found it dissapointing after repairs it took atleast five strikes to take out a battle cruiser wtf? Whats going on with this weapon also the progenitor wreckage on a vast scale making the mother ship so small and why isnt the dreadnaught much bigger?.😮
