I had a huge crush on Miss Branigan when the song Self Control was released. The song itself wasn't the usual kind of song I listened to. But the guitar part in the beginning convinced me to keep listening ... and it grew on me. It now still is on my playlist, Sad that Miss Branigan passed away far too young.
Not HER song because it's a cover. She simply covered the song "self control" by RAF who is an Italian singer who wrote and sang this song before her obviously.
Thank you for reacting to my favorite Laura Branigan song. She sadly passed away from an aneurysm at the age of 52 (was widely reported that she was 47, but was later confirmed that she was born in 1952, not 1957). Love your dance moves and mannerisms. Thanks for making your reactions fun to watch.
This is another reason why 80s music is my favorite era of music. I really like this song, but you will definitely love Gloria. I also love Spanish Eddie which is a nice upbeat song. Love the reaction Biss ❤👏
Excellent choice for the reaction Miss Bisscute ❤Laura Branigan has a wonderful voice, for future reactions other songs of her that you will surely like are: Gloria and Power of Love. other singers of the 80's that I suggest you react to: Pat Benatar, Alison Moyet you will love their voices.
When this album first released, I heard it on the radio and the next day I went out and bought it on cassette. So easy to fall in love with her voice, and so sad she passed so young. She was sensational.
Laura Branigan was really good. She made a big splash on the radio with "Gloria," and then followed that up with "Self Control" and my personal favorite by her, "The Lucky One." She died fairly young, from a brain aneurysm; sad to say.
In the 80s, You got 7inch vinyl records but also with lots of dance songs you'd get 12inch singles... remixed and extended versions of the single, which you could buy but which were also used by DJs in clubs. Awesome! This song was a massive hit. Some would label it under Hi-Energy, a style of music like a new kind of disco music. Laura died very young, which was obviously a tragedy.
Pachet complet. Laura Branigan cântând și Biss reacționând cu un limbaj corporal și gestual fascinant, unic și incomparabil. Un dar natural cuplat cu un talent extraordinar. Admirația și salutările mele afectuoase. 🌹🍀
Anyone who grew up in the 80s definitely knows these songs. The Italo Disco series is in everyone's head, because these are the first discos and dances with girls. These songs will never be forgotten. _ C.C. CATCH, SADRA, SABRINA, BAD BOYS BLUE, MODERN TALKING, FANCY, JOY, BONEY M, RADIORAMA, FRANK DUVAL....
R.I.P Laura Branigan Not really my kind of music but this song is amazing. So amazing that my band even made a cover of it, more metal style but true to this version.
This song came out at the very start of 1984. I was born in 82. This song was, upon reflection later in life, a sign that I was into the darker side of life. When she said "I live among the creatures of the night." It stuck with me. I wanted to live like that. I wanted to be one of the creatures. Even at like 3 years old, the pull of the darkness was strong. Also, it's just a catchy song. The oh-oh-oh drop is just chef's kiss. 80s synth will always hold a place in my heart. Long before Snoop and Dre got ahold of me, before Kurt Cobain had me smelling my spirit. 80s synth was the jam. Bands like Cutting Crew and Mister Mister were great. And, for those that know. Emotion 98.3 with Fernando was my go to in VC.

No, they are contemporary. The authors (including the RAF itself) allowed LB to cover it for the American market. In Europe they were in the charts at the same time. In Italy, the country of the RAF, obviously only the original version was successful.
Awesome Reaction, as always! You should also listen to the "original" Version from RAF (Raffaele Riefoli) here on TH-cam (I highly recommend the 12" Version). To be clear: RAF wrote the Song together with 2 other Writers (Bigazzi and Piccolo) but RAF could only release in Europe, not Worldwide. The 3 had also offered Laura Brannigan the Song. Brannigan released her Version of the Song in the USA, RAF in Europe.
Pop singer Laura Branigan, who had a short but great career in the 80s, died at her home in New York She died of a blood clot in the brain. August 26, 2004 She was 52 years old.
LAURA BRANIGAN! So glad you've discovered her! Please give your mom the props she deserves! Such Great Song! You Need to listen to "GLORIA".... probably her Signature song. Essential...You can't go wrong!! Cheers!
I call this 80s disco music, because it was played A LOT in discos in the 80s. And it's one of those songs where you know when to do a big jump when you're dancing. 😀
it's not her song, this is a cover and the original version is by RAF, who is an Italian singer. She simply did a cover of the RAF song "Self Control".
Not a wonder most people forget about Branigan. At her time, she was going up against the likes of Whitney, Madonna, Celine in their prime and Heart 2.0. great song along with Gloria though
another great reaction biss, and i love your dance moves... Laura Branigan has those upbeat type of songs, "self control", the aforementioned "gloria", then there's "spanish eddie", the playful "name game" (which is my favorite), and she also have her version of "the power of love"
The song Gloria is a cover (re-adapted) of the song by the Italian Umberto Tozzi and Self Control was written and performed by Raf, also an Italian singer-songwriter.
it's an awesome song with a great atmosphere, good melody, good hooks, her voice is very good, she was a good singer, and I like the lyrics. I think it represents that she feels really alive in the night when she goes out to party.
I love Laura. Great songs, great voice, great looks. She was very charismatic. I would recommend one of her not very known, but excellent song: Living a Lie
It was made when disco was coming out late 70s to the dance pop of the Americsn Bandstand 1980s. She use to be a creature of the night now shes being lured back to that lifestyle. It was common back then for someone gling from their 20s to early 30s to trasistion to more mature professional life but still be tempted back to the free spirit night life of the younger 20s.
Laura Branigan became a star in 1982 when her single 'Gloria' became a hit... 'Self control' was her 1984 album, and she got more hits like - 'Lucky one'... 'Ti Amo'... And then the hit- 'Spanish Eddie' in 1985... Her career slowed down in the 90's and she eventually left the business to take care of her ailing husband, who passed away in 1996. After 2000, Laura Branigan started performing again, but she passed away in 2004 from an aneurysm (R.I.P.)
Laura Branigan (RIP)... Two other Awesome Songs were "How am I supposed to live without you" and "Gloria" (Listen to this one if you need to be Energised)! This Song is Great for "Butt Dancing".... Moving your body while sitting... Just you, the Chair and the Tunes Moving you!
Laura Branigan is my favorite female singer of the '80s and this is my favorite song of hers. She didn't write the song, it was created by a singer named RAF.
You should also check out Laura Branigan’s live version of Forever Young by Alphaville, Laura Branigan never released her version, but used to sing it at her live performances in front of her fans at her fan’s request, It was only after Laura had passed away that her fans requested for it to be released, 😎👍🏼
