You guys should read the book. Cormac McCarthy was a master of the metaphor. Y'all talked about Anton's gun and the sound it made. The book describes it as: "Chigurh shot him three times so fast it sounded like one long gunshot and left most of the upper part of him spread across the headboard and the wall behind it. The shotgun made a strange deep chugging sound. Like someone coughing into a barrel." That's absolutely stellar wording- Creative and probably accurate as fuck. Cormac was a god.
Cool. What's the book say about the gas station scene? I had to watch it few times to understand. The clerk basically told him he read the license plate off his stolen car, and Javier seems is stressing about having to killing him over it. So, his questions are not looking for an excuse to kill him, rather to not kill him, he uses a quarter to make the discission for him. Is that how the book tells it?
@@treystone9464I don’t think he necessarily was worried about the clerk noticing the stolen car, but instead was “annoyed” that it’s implied that the clerk was watching him. It could also be both.
Woody Harrelson's character is based off a hitman from Texas who killed a senator. The hitman? His OWN DAD. Yes Woody Harrelson's dad was a hitman look it up.
Apparently there’s also a rumor that Woody’s assassin father is also the biological father of Matthew McConaughey after having smashed Matt’s mom back in the day. Not sure if it’s true but it’s hilarious in the context of True Detective.
@redted12345 I heard about that, and I guess Matt, at some point, proposed getting a DNA test. If they haven't done it, I can only assume that it's because they decided that they were already brothers enough by choice that knowing the DNA results would be irrelevant, which would be wholesome as fuck.
Anton Chigurh is a proper VILLAIN. He's calculated, he's methodical, he's a seasoned killer, and he has no remorse or regret. The brilliance of this character is he holds no super power or extraordinary attributes, he could be the guy you see in the grocery store that sorta creeps you out but you don't know why. There are no ethics or morality that enters into it, it is an end goal and it will be reached, or he will die trying, but it's all the same to him because this is all he has.
Ever see Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler? Guy that murders him at the end has that same dead eyed look. Creepy. Guys name is Keith William Richards. Guy they discovered on the street that may/may not been in the mob. Wouldn't be surprised if he has done that in real life. Or he's a great actor? Evil jumped off the screen

Sheriff Ed Tom didn’t see Anton’s reflection at the motel. He saw that Anton used the piston bolt to knock out the lock on the door and that he still might be there, which he was 👀. He knew that if he walked into the room he might be killed.
Anton was in the room next to the room that sherrif was in, anton checked that room and realized Brolin character pushed it to the back of the vent to the other room like he did before
Excellent choice, guys, and great reaction as always. About Anton's gun, he uses a Remington 11-87 shotgun with a custom made suppressor that was created just for the movie. The shotgun is real but both the suppressor and the sound effect are not. In fact, that particular model of shotgun wasn't made until the late 80s while the story takes place in 1980
Regarding the motel rooms, Anton's first entry (into an identical room) was to case the room: check the layout, check for possible hiding spots, check the thickness of the walls, etc.). When he entered the occupied room, he knew what to expect and could come in hot.
If I remember correctly, they were inspired for Chiguhr's haircut after seeing an old photo of a guy in a brothel with a similar haircut from decades ago. Javier Bardem who play Chiguhr's character told them something to the effect of, "I'm not going to get laid for 3 months" and they high-fived each other when he said that to them. lol

Yeah the Coen brothers are dope af. If you wanna check out some of their more comical, less violent (somewhat) films, I'd recommend Burn After Reading, or O' Brother Where Art Thou. Also for another classic Woody Harrelson joint, check out White Men Can't Jump if y'all haven't already, I think y'all would enjoy that lol. But yo that scene towards the end when Tommy Lee's character goes back to the motel after the shootout; Chigur was really there. The sheriff's hesitation was because he noticed the lock had been popped off, like bro did with the air gun. And once inside, they keyed in on the vent grate with the coin, to imply that Chigur made off with the money, cause he knew Luellyn was hiding it in the vent, but the cartel didn't. He just managed to dip out the window or something in that little time before the sheriff came in.
Modern classic, easily in my top 3 Coen flicks. Excellent movie on all fronts. The quietness just amps up the tension so deliciously. Bardem - yes pun - slaughters his role, but the whole cast is operating at a very high level. Immaculate Roger Deakins cinematography. Love that sequence where Anton is shooting from the corner stealthy as shit, even when the car rides past the corner you _barely_ see him. The sound design is phenomenal throughout. ps. As I've now watched enough of your videos to know what kind of characters you dig, I would definitely recommend "Miller's Crossing" from the Coen library, it is awesome.
It is said that Anton Chugur is possibly the most evil antagonist in cinema. Did u notice there was like no soundtrack to this either ? Just silence . How do you think he would stack up against Lorne Malvo ? Or Hanzee ? They were pretty deadly also . The Coen Bros. can cook up some scary dudes. "Burn after reading" is another good one by them also .
After both watch the movie and reading the novel, I interpret this story as a philosophical exploration of free will vs. determinism/fate. Chigur represents the anti-free will, which is why he relies on the coin to decide; he’s not free to choose. Also, when he tells Carla Jean “I wouldn’t worry about it” paying the bills. It’s like he knew, even with a coin toss, what the outcome would be.

@@FriendRequestReviews Yes, and I've mentioned all my favorites, I didn't like ''Hail, Caesar!'' and ''Intolerable Cruelty'' is funny, but not that great imo...most Coen ''fans'' didn't like ''The Ladykillers'', but to me it's hilarious, and I love the original 1955 movie (Yep, it's a remake, that's probably the main reason why most people didn't like it ) with Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers.
I was just going to make basicly the same comment, with one addition. No love for "Crimewave"? I know many find it too silly and/or annoying, basically unwatchable, but I love it!
So many quotable lines. Great casting. NO MUSIC. And it teaches us that everything in life is random, and you can't fight it. Nothing was resolved. And this is why this is the greatest movie ever made in my humble opinion.
I agree! I think a lot of people miss that the universe is way more random than they are comfortable with and the Coen Brothers tap into that in this movie.
Most of the Coen movies are great. Big Lebowski is their masterpeice. Plus Oh brother where art thou and Raising Arizona need to go on FRR's short list too.

Those lyrical bits of dialogue throughout. Kind of poetic. Those are 100% from Cormac McCarthy who wrote this masterpiece. They (Hollywood folks) are in the middle of adapting his supposedly unadaptable Blood Meridian right now. He was arguably the best writer in the English language walking the earth until he passed away not too long ago.
If you ever sat down with the Cormac McCarthy novel, of the same name, it will blow your mind. Screen play adaptation I thought was as good as it could be done movie.
The Coen Brothers have a tendency to put one full on sociopath horror of a human in every movie. In Fargo, the guy who put his partner in the wood chipper, in this Anton, in the tv show, Malvo, the Indian from season 2…. Watch Miller’s Crossing & if you’re in the mood to have your brain fried, Barton Fink, the movie they wrote during a period of writer’s block over finishing Miller’s Crossing….

Recommended Joel & Ethan movie: ''Blood Simple'', ''Raising Arizona'', ''Miller's Crossing'' (still my favorite), ''Barton Fink'', ''The Hudsucker Proxy'', ''The Big Lebowski'', ''O Brother, Where Art Thou?'', ''The Man Who Wasn't There'', ''The Ladykillers'', ''Burn After Reading'', ''A Serious Man'', ''True Grit'', ''Inside Llewyn Davis'' & ''The Ballad of Buster Scruggs''
Are these all Coen Brothers movies?
@@FriendRequestReviewsyeah, along with Fargo which I think you guys already saw. Top tier directors
@@toothbrushfromnisemonogatari that's why I didn't mention ''Fargo'' and, of course, their other masterpiece ''No Country For Old Men''
I was just going to make basicly the same comment, with one addition. No love for "Crimewave"? I know many find it too silly and/or annoying, basically unwatchable, but I love it!
“I wonder how much is in there, pull it out”. If only 😔
19:42 Best Line Ever🤣🤣😂😂
i love how there is no music or score throughout the movie, until the end credits
I don't normally like reaction videos, but i really dig your style for these.
Props.
Magnolia does this better than any movie ever released. No Country being a close second.
Thanks!
Best reactors on TH-cam hands down .
Ed Tom is Andy Griffith and his deputy is Barney Fife.
Most of the Coen movies are great. Big Lebowski is their masterpeice. Plus Oh brother where art thou and Raising Arizona need to go on FRR's short list too.
The anecdote about dispatching a cow with an air gun is an insight into Chigurh, who sees most of the people he kills as cattle.
You should do "The Big Lebowski" next, another The Cohen movie! 👌🏻
I love this flick. Nice reaction.
Glad you enjoyed it
One of the GOATS. Also check out,
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Frances McDormand)
Blood Simple (Frances McDormand) (Coen brothers)
Miller's Crossing (Coen brothers)
The Man Who Wasn't There (Frances McDormand) (Coen brothers)
This movie has no music or soundtrack and it adds to the impact!
agreed!
His car hit was RANDOM CHANCE.
This movie is set in the early 80s. Back then, you could walk or drive right across the border stations with little to no problems at all. I did it many times when I lived in Houston, TX.
I just discovered you guys and I enjoy your reactions. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I watch it at least a couple times a year. It's just amazing.
Welcome aboard!
Another Coen brothers #Classic
Those lyrical bits of dialogue throughout. Kind of poetic. Those are 100% from Cormac McCarthy who wrote this masterpiece. They (Hollywood folks) are in the middle of adapting his supposedly unadaptable Blood Meridian right now. He was arguably the best writer in the English language walking the earth until he passed away not too long ago.
I REALLY LIKE YOUR TAKE ON THIS MOVIE. YOU TWO ARE VERY GOOD AT THIS.
Masterpiece
Instant
"I wouldn't worry about it."
Had to jump on this video especially after seeing the LA Confidential one , both crazy masterpieces!!!!
Thanks, we appreciate the support 🙏🏾
"Oh so its alright when they fade to black, but i can't worry about a Jinx?"
You guys need to check out Bone Tomahawk. A Western/Horror with Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson.
I concur. Great flick.
@@stobe187 right? It's pretty damn good movie that hardly anybody talks about. Very gritty
If you ever sat down with the Cormac McCarthy novel, of the same name, it will blow your mind. Screen play adaptation I thought was as good as it could be done movie.
Great Reaction, Salute !
Hmm... the that's vanity guy sounds like Acker from BCS. And Jesse's mom from bb. I'm seeing these actors more now. 😂
yep.
Was just planning on showing this movie to my friend. Crazy coincidence lol
You're a good friend, and your friend is lucky to have you
@@FriendRequestReviews thanks a lot 🔥
Also realize that there is just *no music*. That's a silence ass movie. You dont realize it watching it, but when you think back on it, it hits.
Love this movie! Have you guys watched Gran Torino yet? If not, please do!!
