STORY
This abandoned mansion stands tall and proud, a relic of the hard work and determination of the Sinquett family. As we walked through its halls, the eerie feeling that lingered in the air was undeniable. Our task was to document and catalog the contents of the house, but as we delved deeper, we uncovered the captivating story of the family that once called it home.
Carrie Sinquett, a fierce single mother, raised her three children, Ken, Sue, and Samantha, within these walls. Despite the numerous obstacles she faced, she never wavered in her commitment to her family. She worked tirelessly as a laboratory assistant in Mobile while also single-handedly running the household. Her unwavering love and guidance were the backbone of her children's upbringing.
As the children grew older and left the nest, Carrie found herself alone in the house. Medical documents and a health card addressed to Carrie, were found leading us to believe that she was in poor health and possibly passed away. The last date we found inside the house was September 24, 2010, and her fate after that remains a mystery.
The house now remains empty, a silent witness to the life of the Sinquett family. Its walls hold secrets and memories that will forever remain untold. We couldn't help but wonder what happened to Carrie and what other secrets the households had. Join us as we take you on a journey through this abandoned mansion and uncover the story of the Sinquett family.

I read Carrie Siquett's obituary online. She left this house in 2014 at age 96 and died in a nursing home at age 98 in 2016. She and her husband had been married for more than 50 years when he passed away. She had three children: Nancy, Joan, and Frank Jr. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of the info you shared was incorrect, but your video is amazing. Thanks for sharing. Here's a tip. If you find a name in the houses you explore, a Google search can often yield a trove of information you can share with your viewers.
I thought something was wrong. Her own children were probably in their 70s when she died. I still think it's sad nobody wanted any of the pictures. I do a lot of googling. It was a great tour, and he is very respectful.
@Rene Young Yes. He is always respectful. She died surrounded by family, according to her obituary. That photos get left behind is unthinkable.

Every time i watched these videos i turned sad because of the children that didn't save these beautiful houses, i understand totally that children when they grow they will have their lives but no one with them consider or think to renew the houses at least for the memories that holds or even for the family reunion on holidays. Children should consider these things because for me my parents and their house will be the precious home forever even i am not living in it. I do consider and think always for my mom and dad who worked so hard to have the house and i am really teaching my daughter at least to appreciate this in her life.

I cover my furniture because I have pets that shed or sleep on the couch and chairs. When someone comes over I take off the coverings and then the guests don't have fur all over them. Also a throw blanket handy if someone is cold.
It's just sad to think that a mother or father will be left alone in their old age.
I get so depressed watching these but yet they are so wonderful. Hard to think of the lives that lived there, no longer there or among us. Life is so strange. Here and gone. Your stuff end up on eBay or in a yard sale all you’ve worked for. 50 years down the road you are forgotten.

I love Lesley’s heart felt emotion when he tries to piece together the lives that may have thrived in these homes. No one could know for sure what took place unless they were there, of course, so I find the loving outlook he always lays on top of his narration is heartwarming. For me it just adds a humanity and empathy to the situation. Maybe the details aren’t always spot on but you can tell he cares about what he is seeing. :)❤
The blanket over the antique couch serves a few purposes. First it acts as an accent to the piece of furniture. Secondly, if you're sitting there and get a chill you can simply pull the cover/blanket over you without having to get up.
The record player...yal made me crack up!!!! You can play both size records on the top one. You put the small record on, as you did, turn it on and it automatically drops and plays. The brush on the lower record player was to clean any dust off them. The red thing on the is removable to play the bigger records

My grandparents in Ohio, USA, used to have a fireplace in the basement. Grandpa used to make metal chimes and grew cooking mushrooms down there and would light it to keep it warm while he worked. It was also lit when it was winter and the power went out. The animals were actually wrapped around your neck as a stoll. More than likely, the mouth opened up as a clamp to clamp on the tail. Great grandma a few of them. It was a symbol of money in the 1920s through 50s.
My grandmother had a mink stole and a full length coat (she was 5'11"). She was a model in New York in the 1920s.

It allways amazes me how fast things get into decay. It shows we need to keep a house warm and dry, otherwise the wooden floors and ceilings can get rotten, and the house falls apart. Thank you for honoring the people who lived there. I can't but also feel sad of how time passes by and people are no longer among us, only the house and pictures to remind us..Carrie must have been a remarkable woman, raising up three kids on her own...thx again!!

I know in Belgium, things are different then USA! But when talking about items in house...the item first you said was Ventilator,
but No a Old Fan..probably 1950`s in the Basement! In Kitchen is Not Ventilator from Ceiling, it`s called Light & Ceiling Fan!!
The Beautiful Chandelier, yes hardly anyone has them in houses today, unless your a Millionaire!
All the clothes & things were Vandalism of people searching for Valuables!!
The small Piano was for Child to play till old enough to play on Big Piano! Beautiful Big Piano!!
Loved the Acrylic Painting of Ducks flying! Blankets are tossed on couches as Decorations, they still do that now 2023!!
The Children`s pictures in the Snow Globes, still sell today especially Amazon online store & all it needs is water filled, it
unscrew at bottom, to either fill with water or change pictures! The Paper Wreath was Not for Funeral, it was a Decoration!
Small Black Box is a Personal Heater, for maybe at desk or in bathroom!
In Bathroom, was a Washcloth for Face hanging on the Sink, Not a Towel!
On Bed was a Handmade Crochet Blanket, someone made for her!
Small Record Player is for Records called 45`s, & tiny brush is to clean dust from records!
Bedroom where you found Sewing Box, Sewing Machine Cabinet was under TV...You Missed It!
Attic, but changed into rooms, Girl Scout Bed is also called Cot from Military times to homeowners having it!
So many things can be Sold for the Children Now Adults, or if Bank pulls it, they will sell furniture & sell house!

The animal furs you saw on the atms of the couch were actually mink stoles from the early 1900s. Women would wear them around their neck or shoulders over their coats. I remember as a child finding them in the closets of my great grandmother's house. She was a milliner in the late 1800- early 1900s

depend where your work is, if its far away, then its not economical to live in that area. Also, a big house cost high maintenance, needs more hand to work or money to maintain. what if his was already sold? most children work in the city, thats why they will not come home to their house.
She lived to age 98 and passed away in 2016 in a local nursing home. I found her obituary on line. The house actually was sold last December as it was part of her estate. The property records were on line also.

HI!!! The blankets on the backs of the couches are just for decoration. A lot of times women would get an Afghan blanket given to them and they display it on the back of the couch. When you tell the story of the people that lived in the houses you explore, really takes you back in your mind of how they lived. It is a beautiful story you tell us. Thank you for getting messy and walking into cobwebs!!!! 😉😉 It's just a shame that the families just leave these homes like this and not clean them out. There are a lot of heirlooms left behind. I admire the approach you and Danny take while exploring homes that have been abandoned. You give each home a certain loveliness and respect that I find touching. Please continue to explore and always with your humanity intact.
Without a doubt, it is always impossible to understand the who's and why's places are left as they are. In your case, open to strangers. But I find it warm and charming that you will try.
My own personal goal is to leave as little as possible behind, so that anyone might not even speculate. I realize now how impossible a goal I have set for myself. I've got you to thank for that realization. Somehow that makes life more free and easy for me.

Leslie, you have such a soothing voice. I love your videos. In order for the record to play, it must be turned on and the record will drop automatically. You can stack several records on the cylinder. How in the world do you find the houses??? Be safe on your journeys.
Carrie (Caroline) died in 2016 at the blessed age of 98. Her husband died in 1988 aged 73. By then they already raised their children and the photos with the small children must be their grandchildren which correspondences with their grandchildren names in the obit. Te last years of her life she lived in an elderly care home.

25:05 those record players were made to stack several records. When you turn it on, the first record drops down and the arm would move over the record and drop into place and start playing. When it finished playing, the arm would lift, return to starting position and the next record would drop down.
36:16 camping cot
A blanket on the back of the couch is when you are lounging on the couch and get chilled, you cover up with the blanket. Especially, nap time! The little piano is a toy for children to play with. The fake logs in the fireplace are what is used for a gas assisted fire. There is usually a metal key that is inserted to turn the gas on and then you light it with a long match. The wreath is made out of shaved wood, Americans decorate their front doors with wreaths, especially at Christmas. Antique radio from the 1940's. The records go down to play when you start the phonograph, it triggers the record to spin and drop and the arm swings over the record automatically. She might have rented out the top floor of the house after the children left the house. Wow! Girl Scout cot! Awesome! I volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and I still volunteer every summer for the week long day camp, I am the Craft coordinator.

I live in Western New York and our winters get pretty cold here, and we heat our house with a wood stove in the basement. Works perfectly to heat the house.

I don’t understand how houses like this are left abandoned. She obviously had children and grandchildren. Why would they not have an estate sale to sell the contents of the house, then sell the house to a new family that would love it and take care of it. Why would they just allow it to sit there and rot?

My son and I explored a house that once belonged to my grandparents. The owner had left the house because she had cancer and the guy living with her just left. All of the owner's belongings were still in the house. It was a very odd feeling but thankfully the neighbor told us what happened. Very sad!

Wonderful video as always....the record player was an RCA Victor when they were really introducing the 45 RPM format...alot of these cabinets also had a 78 rpm or a 33 rpm player also.. ...best wishes to all her family....🙏
Those weasels on the armrests were fashion accessories seen on old ladies around the neck over or attached to the collars. I remember my grandmother etc had these animals on their shoulders up until the '50s.
The 45 rpm record player is designed to hold a stack of records 10-15? It automatically releases one when the two buttons self retract into the cylinder then plays that side ..the arm moves back drops next then moves in to play until all are in a pile. You then pull the stack up and the buttons have a rounded edge on bottom making it easy to pull off. You then turn the stack upside down and play the other sides. This gives you your own small jukebox playing for a long time. You have to pull off the tall cylinder to just play single 45s.
There’s so many answers I can give you. Perhaps many have been answered here in the comments already. I enjoy your enthusiasm, Lesley! You’re the same age as my oldest son. 💕

I still have one I inherited from my father! A Dual 1214. There were two inserts. One for 45's with a small hole and one insert for 45's with a large hole in the middle! Also a small metal pin if you didn't want to use the changer or wanted to play LP's
Her real name was Caroline, Carrie for short. I believe the photos shown were of her daughter Nancy. There is an obituary as others have said.
Baquardi mixer was added to alcohol drinks. Someone was a drinker and smoker. She seem to live a long life anyway. I love this house. Prestine in its time. Beds are still made beautifully. The knitted blanket cover would probably been from an older person. Children's pics in the room. Awesome video. Small records were called 45,s large ones were 78,s. The brush on the needle kept the dust off the record to keep the sound clear.

Hi Lesley! I have missed you and REALLY hate that I missed you here in the USA. Did you know they had Lisa Marie Presley's funeral today at Graceland? It was so sad. She is with her father Elvis now.
The record player has an adapter for smaller size records 45 . The adapter comes off and 33 lp can be played. Your respect in the dwellings of others is lovely and so touching. We love you both. Question for Danny what is the dish called that is cod , paresely and onion with olive oil and vinegar ? A friends aunt brought to a holiday meal .
My grandad on my dads side had this beautfiul stand up old brown stereo . I used to play with it the knobs when ever I came to their house. It didnt have a cabinet like that but it gave me a great lookback on a memory Another great video guys :)

I believe the iron wood burning fireplace is to heat the house. It hooks up to ducts and heats the upstairs. My parents had one put in the house I grew up in, because it was warmer and cheaper than heating the house with the electric furnace.
The paper flowers we just hand on the wall ,the small heater is a disc heater kicks out a lot of heat

Blankets were often thrown on backs of couches so u could use them on a cold winters evening to cover u if u got chilly. And yes that was a beautiful handmade crocheted blanket on the bed.I have that same sewing box that was given to me as a gift many years ago.I had a horse like the one u showed for my oldest son when he was little.
The 45 rpm record was invented by RCA Victor, meant to compete with Columbia's 33 rpm - it was a format war! Those players were made to play 45s exclusively, and are collected and restored by enthusiasts today. Some consoles from that era like that one would include two record players: one to play 33 and 78 rpm records, and another lime the ones you found. One variation was a detachable, 45 rpm turntable that worked in tabdem with a 33rpm turntable.
The blanket on the back of the couch is to cover up when you are cold.
The brand of the radio is Grundig. A very well known old German brand that still consists.
Covers on the back of the chair and the couch were probably for warmth. The elderly can get chilled easily.
