    STORY
The Schubert house was a place of love, heartbreak, and family for many years. William and Hildegard met in Germany in the 1940s, just before the start of World War II. Despite the turmoil of the time, they fell in love and decided to get married. After the war, the Schuberts were disillusioned with the actions of their country and decided to start a new life in the United States. William was a talented young man and started his own construction company, while Hildegard took care of the children. At first, they had two children, but later in life, a third child was born. The Schuberts lived happily in their home until William's untimely death. Hildegard was devastated by the loss of her husband, but she was determined to keep the family together and keep their home running smoothly. She lived out the rest of her days in the house, surrounded by memories of her loved ones, until her own passing in 1995. For one last time, we will give you a glimpse into their lives and make their story eternal.

I always get teary eyed at the end of this type of story. Another family story dies with the passing of time. What I'd give to be a part of a family group. It's no fun being old and alone. Thank you Leslie and Danny for bringing these families back to life one last time ❤️❤️❤️

Barbara, I understand how you feel. All of my family has passed. I have no family to spend holidays with or even a chat on the phone. I miss them terribly. My fiance has a big family and they all have welcomed me, however, it just isn't the same as my own blood. Sometimes it really is depressing to me. At least I know I am not alone with my feelings. 😥💔

@@Lily-has-wings All those commercials around holiday time of large families celebrating together are depressing.
All of my family has not passed but everyone is in too much pain from our youth to reconnect. I've tried. I don't even fully understand it, but it's so.
I've been waiting to be adopted for 50 years. Logically, I know it won't happen, but psychologically, it's on my mind every day and I'm still waiting. The social service system is what screwed up our family.

It just breaks my heart to see these houses. I cannot imagine not taking any of my parents belongings. I am quite positive that my sons would try to sell some of my furniture and things I have collected over my lifetime. Old family furniture is a treasure to me as well as my husbands while he was still alive.

This generation of children isn't interested very much in old stuff or their parents belongings, my sister was in another state with my mom when she passed away in a nursing home there but my sister was there every day with her and mom had all kinds of personal belongs at my sisters and nursing home ,she had a private room so my sister kept what she wanted and gave all the rest away ,I didn't get much ,the one thing I have of my dad's is his first tackle box with his fishing plugs in it that is older then me ,I had alot of family photos but unfortunately they were take stolen and lost 💔

Thanks Danny for showing us the pinhole camera. Wow it was in great shape. As the daughter of a German immigrant many things remind me of her parents home. After WWII to be a German immigrant in the United States was very hard. The Germans were ashamed of the things that Hitler did. They tried to hang on to their positive German heritage with books and correspondences in German. The German cursive writing has many nuances that other languages do not use. It is hard to read German. Congrats on trying. The letter with the red white and blue around the edge was to identify it as an airmail letter. Back then you could send a letter that may end up on a boat. The item with the alligator which was used to put on shoes is called a "shoehorn." The potty chair is called a "bedside commode." The chair on the boards with wheels was a homemade wheelchair. When I was young my neighbors built me a similar mobility device which had wood with wheels. Yes, the Lincoln would definitely get stuck in Europe.

Thanks guys! This was fun. The house is a little quirky but someone should buy it and save it. It appears to have good bones and doesn’t seem to have sustainable any water damage like so many other abandoned homes. The furniture should be saved too. I wonder why the children didn’t do something with it or at least come back for the pictures and personal belongings.

The home I grew up in, in Iowa, USA, had stones to make the basement walls, which were double thick. So I would agree that the much older homes were built that way with what they found on the property. The floor was dirt, no cement. Sadly the home suffered a terrible fire that took it completely, along with my father, who I miss terribly even if I am in my sixties.

Welcome. I’ve been watching Bros for about six years. I was watching an early video just yesterday and came across two comments I’d made on it. (Lesley’s brother Jordie was involved in the channel until life intervened and he went on to other things. But that is why the channel is called Bros Of Decay.) The video I watched was about 15 minutes long. I’m really glad the videos are now near an hour long, sometimes longer. You have many, many videos to see on here. It’s been interesting to watch Lesley grow and change from the teenager into the handsome young man he is.
Danny I have been watching for about two years. He is a charming young man who is very knowledgeable about many different things. Lesley and Danny are a great team.

Ohhh Leslie & Danny… thank you sooo very much for sharing this wonderful adventure with us!!! This was so very interesting to me, as it was my era… I graduated from high school in 1973! All of those items looked so familiar to me, as that’s the kind of furniture & way that our house was set up!!! They were wealthy farmers, as most farmers didn’t have as nice of furnishings as this family did! It is sad that the antique furniture, items & even family memorabilia like pictures, weren’t saved restored & either treasured by the family or put in museums or resold, to be reused once again 😞😢😰 Not everyone could afford a Lincoln like that, so yes, they had money!!! What a lovely find!!! As I stated, it makes me sad that the children wouldn’t have auctioned this priceless home furnishings off, as we did my folks👍😞♥️ Thanks once again for another epic property ❤️💕♥️

It is with deep sadness each time I watched your episode. Couldn't imagine how hard it must have been in those days to built ancestral house for their own family. And, to see as to how it became now makes me to reflect on life. All our efforts no matter how noble for our family, even the material blessings will be remembered no more just as we cannot bring anything with us in our death. All will become meaningless. Only what's done for God and for our fellowmen will be significant. 😢

I’m glad to see some videos of your visit to the US. I had decided that you must not have found any places still preserved, but I see you have! You’re so knowledgeable but you still make me laugh every once in a while! “She was a real lady.” Thank you for showing the details of the lady for us ladies. We love to see her keepsakes, China and Crystal and such. It scared me when you opened the cologne bottle because it can go bad pretty quickly and really stink!! The lamp shade would have been covered with silk and, as this fabric is very light and delicate, it would have disintegrated and it ended up looking shredded. I believe it has been a natural decline. Haha!! I love the chair on wheels! That’s making something work, isn’t it? For me instead, I recently bought a pink desk chair on wheels. I’m ashamed 🥺. I wonder what happene in the basement…aww, I see! The raccoon is the culprit! Rascal! It’s a well-kept home even though the lady retired there. Thank you for this trip! Respects.

I bet this house was very nice at one time. I just hate when they get abandoned.

I may of found them on find a grave. Born in Germany, moved to New Jersey. Hildegard died in 1995 at the age of 89. Her husband in 1993. I can't guarantee it's the same people but the details match.

I was going to say that William is not a German name, more of England descent. But Kurt is definitely German. I still adore Lesley and Danny (sp?).

I love your videos. You take so much time and really look at things. For the car door, you have to push the button and pull the door open at the same time. I loved seeing the old camera. I imagine they took tin type photos with it. Thanks again for your videos.

They didn't buy the calendar on-line as there was no line in 1995. They either bought it in Germany or a source here in the United States.

The toilet seat in the bedroom is called a "commode" and the shoe spoon you had is called a "shoehorn" in English. You are really very good at English, I struggle at any other languages.

What a cute little house. The sewing machine was nice find. Like always, I really enjoyed this video. There were a lot of nice antiques and the china in the cabinets It was nice to see that these things were not ruined.

Lovely old home, looked ransacked with some of the rooms "tidied up" a bit. Lightly vandalised BMW and still intact Lincoln tucked away. Must be stuck in some legal probate war between the kids in order for it all to go to ruin like that. Great video!

I am from NJ and know where this town Oxford is. Three towns over from where I lived.
The pink receipt from the mans Tractor repair shop was from Doncheski's a Tractor showroom where you can buy new tractors and have them repaired as well as purchasing parts etc. What a small world !!

Another beautiful video, much closer to home for me. FYI that first record you pulled out of the record cabinet wasn't a "vinyl" but rather a shellac 78, as were many of the records near it. That particular label (the one in the "Here They Come" sleeve") was in the Victor "scroll" label, introduced by Victor in 1925, and used for about 10 years.
