Majorette used this model for many things, and I love it. It's big and ugly, but it looks as tough as old boots. I can see it negotiating dirt roads in parts of Africa where the French had once ruled. I have ordered one, and will be giving it an interior from an old Hot Wheels pickup that I don't care for. Yours looks absolutely superb. Nice one.
Have a clutch of these in our collection. One of the first Majorettes we ever got hold of as a li'l whelk... We've several variants including the 'safari' one you have. Also have one with a snowplow (found at our grannysnail's place) and another with a tow hook attachment. Versatile casting... When visiting France, avoid the _escargot_ - it's snail... ESCARGOT IS SNAIL!
Lovely work, as ever. I love how blocky '60s pickups were. "When men were men and women were glad of it, yessirree Bob," as Jay Leno would say. And styling departments all owned rulers. :)
Hi Rob, Review this model, made me fall far, far in my french childhood. It was one of my favourite. A long time ago. Thank you for that, Rob.😢 Ps : Missing picture with this two different pick-up. Thank, again. Long life, to you.
Great restoration job! I have that particular casting and mine has a tow truck boom in the back that snaps into the slot behind the cab and the two slots at the rear of the bed. Looks great though!!!
Excellent Rob.. I had loads of Majorettes as a kid in the 1970's. I would buy them in the seaside gift shops when on family holidays. It seemed to be the only places that sold them.. I have loved French cars ever since 😁
Either version of truck looks great!! Another awesome restoration! BTW, I like what the Pledge does to the sunscreen. In most cases, they look brand new!!! 👍👍👍
As far as I can find this model also had a plastic front grill bar a net like look. I take it it's a support truck for some kind of racing vehicle or it's an off road racing truck itself. the tires and jerry can on the roof are correct. Beautiful work as we've come to expect, by the way. I guess I don't say that enough. No matter the vehicle, you always do top of the line work. I may not like every vehicle you do, but I cannot fault your work at all. good on ya, mate.
I used to have the safari version of this. Never did know who made the real thing. The Orange over black looks like something worth playing with in the candys maybe?
Good job, I have always liked this casting and the multi-coloured safari versions look especially cool. The consensus seems to be that isn't based on a specific prototype but is a generic 1970s-style truck that Majorette decided to market as a Dodge, maybe because it's an international brand that would be recognised by youngsters in many different countries. Lots of real trucks have a passing resemblance to this model but none of them are a clear match, so this theory makes sense to me. There is a twin headlight version as well, worth looking out for.
Nice result. I'm wondering if there's a big difference between using black primer instead of white ¿Could be a darker tone of orange? Anyway, looks great! ¿Beacons or tires on the top? Tires, for me 👍
Stunning looking model of a Simca pick up, l thought the truck with the twin headlights looked a bit like a Datsun pick up. Tis one is very nice in that Orange Rob 👍
First option is the winner. Those 3spoke saab rims..sigh! had those on a green porsche 924.. never liked them. But what a nice result. Happy little truck now.
Both majorats were considered highway repair trucks I happen to have a few of I'm in make condition in also they made one in us safari type set up with a boat behind it anyways well done my friend it's always well done what again we gonna tell me
Majorette es una de las grandes compañias francesas de carros a escala, tengo algunos en mi coleccion y esos carros estan espectaculares, con la restauración parecen que los acaban de sacar de sus empaques, quedaron fantasticos,
I wonder if that soda shouldn't be called "Acoustic soda", since it's rather noisy. :P it has never ocurred to me that the original could have been a Dodge-Simca vehicle from the time when Chrysler owned Simca-Talbot. the original surely never made it to german market and maybe was still rare in france. you're quite the researchologist! :)
so cool. I apologize rob not techy at all just figured out how to comment. I'm trying to find a Facebook page or something so I may message you but having difficulty. love your work. when you get chance could you message me or send a link to where I could thanks
Hiya guys, hiya Rob, ive got a matchbox m9 jarrett set, its pretty mint, boxed. Its a series 2, with rivet trailer floors. I broke a door last week. Ive a spare tatty trailer with good doors. Is there any one. Who can help with repair. Sorry if ive hijacked your listing rob. I generally watch in silence. Love you, danny and marty. Cant wait to see his videos. Now hes back. Cheers mark
Simca was a French company that was bought up, little by little, by the European division of Chrysler in the '60s. I'm not an expert on Chrysler's European operations, but this casting looks like a Dodge D-series pickup with some styling tweaks; given Chrysler's perennial fascination with badge engineering, it wouldn't surprise me if that's exactly what it was. Not Australian, anyway. :)
Dodge trucks were made in Australia, but not the Simca version in the video. And they were twinned with International trucks. Only minor detail differences between the two. Production finished in late '70s. They are back now, with the Ram's various models. With Australian Dodge, Simca, UK Kew Dodge and the USA Dodge at least 4 different trucks to suit each countries different conditions.
You did some nice work restoring them, I'd did some looking up on the Trucks on the Majorette Fan Wiki and the 2 you have one of them use to be a Snowplow or Tow Truck and the other a Safari Truck it's right in wiki majorette.fandom.com/wiki/Dodge_D-Series
Trust me, Rob: the castings of monster trucks are the ones that are truly hard to restore! I had the casting of one, King Krunch, where the section where rearview window and the bed met was pure white and I could not get ANY of the wire brushes on my Dremel in to restore it! I had to call it a total loss with the bonnet section also snapping off, but could not be fixed, no matter my efforts and the amount of CA glue used. It was also a McDonald's toy, so I'm not mad about it.
Great work as always Rob! Excellent finish on the paint and a high-quality buff up the non-painted parts. A real pleasure to watch

For me it’s based on the 65-67 dodge d pickup, the ech 1/ 80 is the scale, échelle = scale in French 😉
An Older Vehicle Today Rob!!! Really Nice Job you have done of it too!!! Cheers Mate!!! Keep It Coming!!!
Very Nice Thanks Rob!!!
Lovely work, as ever.
I love how blocky '60s pickups were. "When men were men and women were glad of it, yessirree Bob," as Jay Leno would say. And styling departments all owned rulers. :)
Nice restoration Rob.
Another excellent restoration job!!.. Probably better than when it was brand new!!
Great job with this model. I really enjoy seeing the variety of different brand castings on your channel.
Looks like a city road crew truck, or construction truck. It would have yellow flashers on top. Great restoration job...
Nice job! I really like these castings. There are so many different versions to collect.
Nice job Rob
Hi Rob,
Review this model, made me fall far, far in my french childhood. It was one of my favourite. A long time ago.
Thank you for that, Rob.😢
Ps : Missing picture with this two different pick-up.

Nicely done, sir.
Another great video Rob,it looks brand new,it's in the details that I like about it.sirens or tyres, nice work👍
Great job mate . nice orange.
It's always a pleasure to see you taking care of one of those old Majorette . I like the way you said orange in french.
Merci
Very nice restoration it looks fantastic.👍👍😊
Excellent Rob.. I had loads of Majorettes as a kid in the 1970's. I would buy them in the seaside gift shops when on family holidays. It seemed to be the only places that sold them.. I have loved French cars ever since 😁
Looks great Rob. The black undercoat gives an interesting effect of depth when showing through the shut lines of the door and hood.
Yeah I think the clear coat pulled the orange away from the black shut lines and I like the effect
Either version of truck looks great!! Another awesome restoration! BTW, I like what the Pledge does to the sunscreen. In most cases, they look brand new!!! 👍👍👍
Awesome excellent result Rob.

Nice work looks awesome great job cheers KC Tasmania Australia
Great job matey, I've got one of these pick ups, but it's red with the spare wheels on the roof.
Great looking truck 👍👍
Very nice job, looks like brand new. It appears that model originally had a snap on plastic shell or bed cover of some sort.
Great resto Rob 🙂🚙
Great job rob.
Good work for this awesome oldie diecast I have one still keeping it since 1980
Kind of weird looking a little truck. Fantastic job as usual. Looks a lot better all cleaned up. Have a great day.

Nice result. I'm wondering if there's a big difference between using black primer instead of white ¿Could be a darker tone of orange? Anyway, looks great! ¿Beacons or tires on the top? Tires, for me 👍
Maybe I will do 2 models with different primer to see the difference
Oooooo la la... thats come out nice rob 🤘
Killer job
nice one
Robert
Get busy with the fizzy ! Good job , unusual pick up , looks tough !
Stunning looking model of a Simca pick up, l thought the truck with the twin headlights looked a bit like a Datsun pick up. Tis one is very nice in that Orange Rob 👍
Beacons not sirens Rob!
WoW I had two of these both camper backs n both Orange I Hated the wheels but loved the suspension n pick-up style great job as always Full Send U.K.
Looks good .
I restored one of these too, mine is a military version with a towing crane on the back!
First option is the winner. Those 3spoke saab rims..sigh! had those on a green porsche 924.. never liked them. But what a nice result. Happy little truck now.
The color reminds me of what was called Hemi Orange.
Rob you tease i thought the paint removal was in the bag 😂😆😂
Very nice👍great work

The front end of this reminds me of t he front end of the 70s Jeep Cherokees and Pickups...
Great job on the pickup truck
Excellent restoration!
It looks like New! I have one in red and It has a motorhome version
Came out neat as always 👍🏼
Well done Rob Brian Thailand

Well... this is an interesting lil truck
Nice job as usual

Awesome. Job
Very nice , and this car is very cool .
Your Foot Long Hot Dog Jar/ Caustic Soda works well at least 90% of the time..
korrection: 93.87%
Nice work. You get better and better. Have you ever done Vanta Black ?
Ech 1/80 means scale 1/80
Amazing job
Great work!
nice job
Must be both styles at these wheels were available on this one to create at least 2 variations...
A great job 👍👍👍👍
Nice love it
Looks great
Nice restoration, Rob. Just curious, why did you use black primer? 🏁
No real reason mate, like to change it up
Wonder how Rob calculates the percentage of paint left on his cars, think he said 99.73% , so funny.😂👍
Simple maths mate
@@MatchboxGarage I didn't reckon with that, really...

That costic soda made me want to drink a screw driver!
With the head on it, more like an Orange Julius. :)
I have one i got it since 1981 but my version one in white zebra.
How much time the does soda takes to remove the paint?
On this casting less than 10 minutes
@@MatchboxGarage Thanks for the reply!
I use soda to peel from plástic kits and could never use boiling water on them... Lol
was this based on a real car?
Once try just polishing the body and clear coat. Not exactly realistic; but a cool look.
I haved the same !
sweet!
i've never heard of a dodge simca, is that and australian truck?

What is the easiest way to delete the old paintjob? I See you use water with Soda? Sry But im New in this Hobby😂
Caustic soda

They are 1/64. 1/80 is the model.
