Hand Brake Fix | Major and Minor Adjustments

- Minor and major hand brake adjustments performed for a 2006 Acura TL. Ultimately, minor adjustments are made if you need to 'tighten' the hand brake 1-3 clicks. Otherwise, a major adjustment is required. I'll show you how to perform both!

TH-cam TH-cam. The savior of any extra money you don't want to spend. My 2003 Acura CL 6 speed type s had same exact issue. The TH-cam community is the best hands down. Thank you sir
Do you still have that car? Thats badass
Great video my sons 06 Acura was way out of adjustment this video save me money. One side was seized up but a lite tap with the flat head took care of that.
I don't not enjoy seeing anyone get hurt. But the way you hurt finger and the noises you made me LOL. Please find it in your heart to forgive me.
lol..that's okay
I like how you show your screw ups :)
it's a good way to build report with DIY'ers 🤫
You're the man! Thank you for the clear straight to the point video! My car feels like a new car again. At least the parking brake does lol.
This video helped me out so much and it also saved me money which is always a good thing.
Great explanation of how to do handbrake adjustment..very helpful video.
Thank you for this video. Adjusted my parking brake for first time!
I had no idea this would be so easy, this is a well done video! I havent tried it yet on my 2003 acura CL type S but I'm sure itll work fine, as my parking brake worked before I replaced my rotors but now it doesnt.
Glad to help!
AYYY my pinkyyy had me cryin laughing lmao
I did the same thing to mine...
We all been there, most of us..
I am having the same problem and I was thinking that I would have to replace it entirely. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you for posting this, I have the exact same issue on my 4th gen TL. Crazy hand brake points to the moon currently.
Yes sir. My ACURA CL. Same issue. Great video

Very helpful! Thank you so much!
Great video!
This video is truly helpful
This is great! I have the exact same car - color and all. Thanks for the clear and concise instructions. If you have any pointers on how to deal with this cracked dashboard that would be great! 😄
good ,except the hand brake light stays on ,goes of in warm weather?
Exact video I was looking for!! Thank u!!
thanks for the great video. it was really helpful. maybe you could do a vid on how to change the brake shoes of the emergency brakes.
Thank you. Sure. I'll try to post that soon.
Thank you soo much for such a concise and explanatory video.
You're very welcome!
Hell yeah, it worked for me. Thanks for the video!!! 🤙🏽
This video is EXACTLY what i was looking for. Have had an 08 for 3 years now and the pb has always been sloppy.
Glad to help
Thank you for the video, I just performed a brake shoes replacement and the brake is too high now, I will adjust them tomorrow.
Glad to help.
you changed the rear parking-only brake shoes?
Thank you. Been puttin it off for 5 yrs. Much better now. But of course when ur fixin one issue another arrives. I think the pads are worn, either that or my rear driver rotor are warped. 🤦♂️
Thanks an excellent video , most helpful.
very well explained
Thanks for such a detailed video. Great camera views and all. I'm wondering if this would be correct for my 2012 TL? I have a manual transmission, and my car rolls on the slightest hill when in neutral, even with the e-brake all the way up.
Literally a life saver thank you
Happy to help.
What position is the E-brake supposed to be in when you adjust from the rotor? One click up also?
Did you ever find out? I'm wondering this also
I think he said to put in all the way down
Thank you!
THANK YOU, GOOD EXPLANATION
Glad to help!
I'm just glad that on the 2009 TSX you do not have to adjust the rotor because the brake doesn't go to that it goes to a mechanical part on the caliper making it hydraulic and wire pulled ; you would be surprised though how many people are on the internet think you have to take the whole TSX console off in order to adjust the brake tensioner because I mean it's on some Acura sites and they don't know about the little door in the bottom of the console
Great video
This helped more than Accord videos. I wish you owned an 03-07 Accord. So I could have a better video of rear brake assistance or brake cable replacement.
Would your parking brake come on if it is lose?
You mean back off the adjuster 8 clicks, not 8 turns. If I push the rubber plug in, I use a needle nose plier, worked for me before. The very reason for the existence of that star wheel (which you have to back off 8 clicks) is the brakes to be self adjusting. Most vehicles go through the life of the brake shoe without adjustment. The need for adjustment means Honda screwed the design somehow.
You are awesome and thank you for your help
Very helpful
God bless you man
Thank you. Hope this video helped!
Good job thank you
This is a great video! i have a 2012 TL and i think i only need a couple clicks. it's not pointing at the sky like yours was, so i'll try the minor adjustment. thank you!
Thanks
great it helped me , Thanx
Do i leave the hand brake down while im adjusting it?
Hey, on my RL, it is a foot parking brake and it seems that adjustment bolt is near the pedal. Do you know if adjusting that is all it takes or I would need to do any adjustment in the rear as well?
Lol the bloopers with the pinky and the rubber plug us mechanics know your pain....
Thanks for shareing
Is the handle itself spring loaded to return to the resting position when not engaged?
Nice really informative...
Thanks sir
there is a way to grab that plug using a 90' angle needle nose pliers and no need to remove the rotor. good video
I have a 2010 Acura TSX with the mAnual transmission. Would the steps be the same?
I have a 2006 TSX Manual transmission but my emergency brake is nothing like his. I have disk brakes and not drum brakes for the emergency brakes.
6/8/22 03 honda accord ex 115000 miles. Parking brake dragging being released. Lever at the center control was loose all the to about the 6-8 click position after someone not familiar with the car engaged the e-brake too high or aggressively. Just trying to see whats the temporary fix till i order caliper slide pins and boots to not have this issue in a couple thousand miles
My problem is drag on the driver rear whee
On my brother's 2015 kia rio when you try to engage the handbrake it doesn't engage, and the release button is not clickable anymore, any idea how we can fix it?
Ty
My car only makes 3 clicks and if you pull harder it goes all the way back but there's no resistance at that point, any ideas?
I have changed break adjuster but I want to check whether it is a hand break cable problem or something else plz help thanks.
What about with rear disk brakes?
What did you do with The handbrake? Why did you screw it?
I just bought this Honda Accord 57 plate, there is no reversing Sensors please tell me how I can fit, or are they missing?
With the flat head are you tapping or turning it? Asking for an 04 Acura TL
And is this the same to do for the manual version?
Great video. I am having the same issues where my hand brake requires adjusting. However, I have pulled it up so high too many times that the hand brake will not release.
Release button is now stuck.
Do I need to replace the hand brake?
What did you do to fix it?
Interested to know as well
I've got a 2008 Subaru Impreza manual and the handbrake light comes on randomly while driving. The handbrake is adjusted correctly, I checked the connection under the center console and it seems to be working correctly. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the video. I tried it. Now I got new rear rotors and calipers, (the pb worked fine before changing the rotors) installed them and did both minor and major fixes and still nothing. On the rotors I push down and counted the clicks but after 8 clicks it will not go no more on both sides. What should I do? The shoes have barely any wear. Plz help!
I got it. I was going the wrong way!
My car hand break when pulled becomes a bit loose and doesn't work the it should and a sound from break drum is produces and I feel hand break is not applied correctly
Funny guy love it
Are you able to figure out a p2610 code on 08 Acura TL?
Thank you, I just wanted to know how to remove the hand brake cover because I accidentally dropped all my credit and debit cards in the little surrounding the brake lever.
My handbrake is too stiff. Do you know anyway i could fix it and make it lighter ? Like legit i can barely lift it to 5 clicks.
Do the opposite
I also have a Acura TL my VSA & my ABS sign came on any tips ?
Plug in a scan tool and see what pops up. This is a good inexpensive one that reads engine and abs codes...th-cam.com/video/K45uAJGbY0M/w-d-xo.html
Poor Pinky Poor Grommet victim of Good Tutor. Thanks Guy.
I don't see a driver side bolt, and then when I took off the driver side wheel I see the spring but not that pin. But the car has a passenger bolt and passenger wheel have a pin. It's an 08 acura tl
Ayecarumba!
The little slant opening surrounding the brake lever
So I rotated the star wheel on both sides until the rotor wouldn't move any more. Then I rotated it back eight clicks. The hand brake still goes too high. Doesn't seem like it made much of a difference.
I pushed the teeth back 8 times after completely locking the wheels but it was too much for me, it didn't even tighten more the handbrake so I had to roll it more
Appreciate the feedback.
So you pushed less than 8 clicks? I have the same problem.
mine does not engage at all even after it pulled my car rolls down the hill (it is a stick shift)
You DON'T need those 2 screws on the rotor. That's just to hold the stupid thing when the car is being assembled
AYYYYy my pinky
I’m great video
oops at 7:44
I just bought a 6m 09 tsx ....and guy forgot to give me lug nut keys -_- also i have a flat !!!
