As a person that buys/sells PC and parts and looks at the local market daily, I really liked this video. I feel sorry for people that actually consider buying some of these builds. That PS fan up against the glass panel is embarrassing.

If the buyers willing to pay than that’s on them. In the past 4 months I’ve made a little over 9 grand selling pcs and parts. Most of it with a good 50% markup and they all sold fast.
It’s not worth it for us who know how to build pcs but for someone who doesn’t it’s not a big deal.
The pc building community blows this stuff way out of proportion though. That’s how the world works.

im glad he put a water block on that 11th gen cpu because i think 11th gen is one of the worst cpu generations to put in a itx build. i have a 10700 and my gf has a 11700 and the same cooler but hers runs 20c hotter at idle. mounting pressure is fine and thermal compound is fine to. 11th gen was a joke of a launch

@Lurch7861 I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the midwest, while I miss the quiet country but I like the convenience of the city's local used market, FB marketplace, Craigslist and offerup. I scan them daily. If you have cash, time and a bit of communication skills, you can get crazy deals. I have paid under $50 for entire gaming systems numerous times. Last one, this younger kid was getting rid of his "old" setup from 2019..lol. Entire gaming setup, mouse/KB/Monitor....all for $50. There are
also local tech companies that liquidate often also, great HP and Dell office machines for harvest or to throw GPUS im for resale. In contrast, Where I grew up, good luck finding a gaming PC owner, let alone someone who doesn't have a prebuilt Walmart special Acer that comes read to die within a year.

Unfortunately, some dumb sucker will buy these.
Considering, most of us are living in the common age of the internet, if you're that lazy to look up and can do proper research on the stuff you want to buy online, I don't feel sorry for anyone who falls for these ads.
If you can search for the products you want to buy online, then you can do proper research on it before you buy it, too. Lol.

@@WhyteLis21 Its the reason I had to quit reddit and completely had to unsub from "PCMR" sub. Gen X'er here, I grew learning by trial and error and tough love, no internet. These new reddit kids want to be spoon fed everything. They have the WHOLE internet at their hands, can google any solution in seconds BUT choose to be lazy when building and trouble shooting. Phones and social media are part of it I think...instant gratification mixed with limited attention spans dont and make for a PC builder that wants to learn. I got tired getting called " a dick" and downvoted for preaching my tough love on there. Let them build their own PCs and fail or buy 5k PC's from the guy above (Mr. 9k)....they deserve it. I pulled the trigger on a reference 6900xt. Main factor, which was a dumb factor I'll admit, was my case could only fit a 6900xt reference and maybe one other. I paid $1700 for the card. I have slight remorse after having built my first computer (and it being pretty easy compared to what I thought) a month ago and that I really should have just taken some of that 1700 and upgraded from my HP Omen 25L (new case and new motherboard) but then I look back over the last year and a half and I can't imagine still running a reference 5700xt. I will never get caught up in the new thing pc craze. I bought a 5900x 2 weeks ago so I can get off my 3700x but I waited until it dropped to 349. Had i thought more I would have waited till the 5800x3d dropped but I got excited when I saw the 5900x drop from 399 to 349. Live and learn.

When it comes to accessories, unless they're including them for something absurd like 30 cents on the dollar, most people do not give a damn about your accessories. Most people have specific preferences for what kind of headset, keyboard, mouse, and monitor they want anyway. Trying to act like selling all that crap in a "bundle" for a marginal discount is somehow an amazing "deal" is just pathetic and lazy. The reality is THEY would love to be able to sell everything at once for most of what they paid for it, but that is delusional. I always sell everything I own on individual listings. I don't have any respect for people who try to sell all their crap to me in a "bundle" for 70-80 cents on the dollar.

This thing is also exceedingly common with cameras to the point I have starting calling it Camera Buyer's Syndrome. I think people buy a camera use it a couple times and forget about it. Months or years later, they find it and try to sell it for nearly exactly what they paid for it. I've seen decade old cameras that people are attempting to sell at their MSRP because they feel guilty they spent so much money on something they never used. I think a similar thing is happening here. People way overpaid for computers during the pandemic, realized they didn't enjoy gaming or didn't enjoy it relative to how much they spent and now are trying to recover all that money because of buyers remorse.

In my country it's seen as normal to price used things insanely high. Not even just PC parts and tech but other things as well. For example you see 15-20 year old bikes going for 4K euros, you can save up another 1.5 and buy a brand new bike with all the new tech, ABS, launch control, traction control, LED lights, 0 KM driven, new tires, new suspension, stock engine. But they paid 4K when they bought it (also used) and they'll be damned if they sell it for under that price. You just save up the difference, sell your bike for what you bought it and get yourself something nicer when dealing with used

It would probably be under $2k, I'd have to tally the entire system value on the used market and take a bit off of those prices as a package. I like giving deals and helping people out getting into PC gaming :)

What’s hilarious about people who list their overpriced PCs online or on OfferUp is the huge paragraphs they write just rephrasing the same things over and over, max settings any game, 4K ready, beast pc etc..

Years ago I used to buy and sell via auctions and adverts. But the basic rule was simple, if you are buying 2nd hand, then 50% of the new retail price was the starting point. 2nd hand could have all sorts of issues, even if the user has been really careful with it.

Can we talk about local pc stores still trying to gouge the hell out of pc prices. Especially in the LA County area.

I bet some of these people don't want to sell their rig but was told to by a spouse or family member and thats why they list it for the ridiculous price... If they really want to make a sale they would lower the price even if they paid that much.

In my area the facebarf sellers are living in "LA LA" land also! one guy wanted $200 for a 1998 computer and I don't think it was a collector's item! 🤣🤣🤣

that's nothing, just today I clicked on one of those start page ads and found an online seller that routinely sells Windows 98 machines for upwards of a grand! I guess that hardware has become rare at this point but I'm honestly confused as to why anyone would want to do this?

Can't help but notice a lot of these people are trying to sell their parts near to what they originally bought it for. That's not how the used market works. The biggest hit of depreciation on anything occurs the second you open the box and is a function of its age and condition. Also, trying to sell your entire rig in one shot is dumb as well considering most people are looking for specific components and not an entire setup. Most of these listings come across desperate and lazy.

And one thing these sellers seem to forget is that they are selling"used" products and asking more than the brand new value.
Geez, they think their PCs are Gold or Land.

the worst to me is when a person buys something that came out 5 OR 6 years ago and says they have only had it for a few days and upgraded and now they are selling the part for like 20 or 30 dollars off and then say its still basically brand new, YEA OK!!!!

  • @RandomBSOD
    @RandomBSOD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

the best part about these prices is that the higher they are the longer it will take to sell, thus making the parts lose further value

Depending on the time and supply, for a bit over 3k you can get a literal current top of the line 3080TI PC built to your desired spec and covered with a multi year warranty by any number of companies and if you were to part it out and build it yourself, you could go even cheaper. These people are absolutely delusional.
