A consistent 4K @ 60fps minimum is still a pipe dream for consoles. This gen should've targeted 1440p. It's all this silly 4K marketing that we have to thank for. People don't understand just how massive a 4K output is. Nobody understands how much extra resolution 4K is compared to 1080p, the leap is massive. The fact that people are already uttering "8K" is so vastly absurd is just goes to further show the massive lack of understanding around resolutions.
Depends on the game, they do exist, but they’re not going to look like Horizon or God of War to do it. Persona 3 Reload is a 4K 60 locked experience on console, and while it does look much better than most Atlus Games, it’s still very simplistic in relation to the aforementioned games. Sony just has an obsession with games that look and play like movies. But yes the cost of native 4K is super high, and I’d rather have something run at a 1080p internal resolution with PSSR scaling it up, and have the frame rate hit 120 on the simpler games if that’s what it takes to get more 120fps console games.
its about losses not profit. the ps5 pro they want profit only so thats why its more expensive . the ps6 just like other generations they will initially start at a loss and make up for it through software sales thats how they make it cheaper

What people don't realize also that these videos when you see them on TV they don't compare remotely close to when you have a physically in your house. The improvement of the game is above and beyond. It's like how they said. It really improves on big television. everything is just clean, run smooth and the frame bonus is a plus. Stellar blade looks phenomenal and completely clean. It got rid of the weird objects like grainy effects that were happening in the background.
@@KnowledgeSimmons doubt. Extremely noticeable enhanced games. They are night and day PLUS past not patched keep their targeted fps. It only stabilizes older games that have not been patched, but the patch games look phenomenal. And you get a huge benefit the bigger of the TV because it gets rid of all the artifact which was common in some games. I have friends who came over test it when I bought it and they said they could tell the difference instantly before I went back to their home so it's not just me saying this tons of people said that. And as I said, before, you instantly noticed the difference with enhanced games. Which either give you 4K resolution on a game that used to be 1080 P on performance, 4K and high frame rate. The lighting and the reflection stand out 3 to 4 times because that was one of the bonuses of binding enhanced games if it's patched for it, they stand out riding your face, even if you're going 90 miles an hour in a car or zooming by a Spider-Man with windows from buildings coming closer it's noticeable to the point where it's in your face. Unlike the original which had tiny upgrade for lighting/reflections that you rarely noticed it is now in your face.
@ I have all of the new games and a few of the ones off of the list. I admit that I don’t know tech but I shouldn’t have to if they just delivered what they promised. Storage and maybe a second more of smoothness then my Slime,smh. The PS6Pro is my next console from them

You don't even have to know tech to notice the difference, especially when frame rate is something you feel in games. The fact that you don't understand 1080 P and 4K or 60 FPS I get the impression of your kid or Boomer. I wouldn't even be surprised if you don't even have your settings on correctly either. But whatever you do you. I have all the newer games and everybody that come over the house instantly noticed it, including myself. If you can't tell the difference, you either have a small TV, settings are not correct or non-compatible game. HZ increase in detail, the character no longer moves around like a fighting in mud/slow now a stable 60 FPS. Reflections and lighting instantly increased reflection more than normal. If you don't know the terminology, then you won't even know what's been improved.
Have a 77” oled and I’m about to do an apples to apples on the base vs ps5 pro. I’m hoping the uptick in resolution is more noticeable on big screens (65” +). Problem is so many people are judging reviews from compressed, low resolution TH-cam videos on their phones or they own TVs or monitors smaller than 55”.
As someone with a series x i dont see the point of a mid gen console. I dont even see the point of getting next gen unless theres next gen only games that are must haves for me. If theres cross gen games, im going to keep using my current console until that ends.

Agreed that current gen games are not incentivized to upgrade for it but games from next year on will use it. My prediction is 2026 games will be the ones being mg built for it. The true fault is with the publishers not allowing resources to go into the game, not investing in graphics programming talent, and the emphasis on suboptimized middleware. We see time and time again that base PS5 handles 4k60 with deliberate design choices made, often with a set of compromises that most people don't even notice (see GoW:Ragnarok and screen space reflections, visible, but unnoticed as people were more blown away by the fine art overall). The talent and budget available to projects in order to remediate the middleware tech optimization is absent from almost all AAA titles. We are not seeing the level of controlled preoptimization that was present in the last Uncharted game, not by a mile, but by like 100 miles. We get a stuttery 30fps mess with RT as a checkbox feature, and res scaling sending the resolution down to the dirt, with a pretty 4k UI for most games. PS5 Pro is just a brute force PC-like approach to overcome this lack of investment.
Another important thing to mention about why everyone liked the PS4Pro is becuase it costed the same as launch PS4, Sony simply did a price cut of the og PS4 and even the price difference was minimum. It was also released during a time when there was tins of quality exclusives.
Anybody who thinks Sony will release the PS6 cheaper than the PS5 Pro's launch price is crazy, even though I would love them to be correct. This is what is called "anchoring", they are aiming for a higher launch price point for their upcoming console, which will give them more wiggle room to be profitable from the get-go. I guess they could also make the console more powerful than how it could be at a 500-600 price point too, but I think they'll just use it to be profitable first, and improve the launch hardware second.
You do understand they need mass adoption because the vast vast vast majority of their income is from game sales and subscription fees. Raising hardware profits 10% and sacrifice 50% of sales would be dumb.

@ please google “List of PS5-only games” on Wikipedia. The list is 21 games long. TWENTY ONE GAMES. Every single other game on the PS5 is also on PS4. And many of those 21 games are actually remasters (TLOU 2, Demon Souls) that are also playable on the PS4, just a different version. A lot of the others are VR. Outside of Astrobot and perhaps a few others, there are very few games that are PS5-only.
A high end pc isn't necessary either. They are for people who want the best pc gaming experience. Same with pro consoles. The series x isnt necessary but they made it anyway
A high end pc is not just for gaming thou . Those specs can be used for playing Nintendo switch games , wii games etc at higher frame rates and resolution. Also a high end pc can make you edit vids , music or photos faster than normal . A pc is an all Around system that does everything

I have the pro, it’s needed for me personally but I think it’s what the PS5 should have been when it came out. Games that I’ve tried look and play so much better.
The problem is the long development cycles. The generation gap is still the same. But release of games takes 4 to 7 years. And at best we get like 1 game from our favourite developers. And if that turns out to be a live service or something that's lacklustre it's even more frustrating because we waited so long and we have to wait even more.
I agree, the PS5 is in a far stronger state and position than the PS4 was when the PS4 Pro came along. The PS4 Pro defiantly had more impact on games and brought more to the table over a base PS4, than the PS5 Pro has done so far, over the base PS5. I honestly don't think that a "Pro" refresh was really needed at all this gen. If Sony was really that concerned, then they should have just skipped the PS5 Pro entirely and moved the PS6's release forward by a year or two (2026 or 2027) As for Dev's!! They are just getting lazier and lazier and are releasing games in poorer and poorer states. It's now a case of "Let's just quickly grab the cash n' run".
I bought one. It sure is not necessary, but considering I can sell my original ps5 at a pretty good price, the cost seems less insane for a nice boost in performance.
I've watched so many reviews on the pro including Digital Foundry's opinions and thoughts and have ummed and arred for a while about getting one. Playing games on my OG PS5 connected to my LG C65 OLED I wonder how much better graphically can the games get; they already in many cases look amazing. Despite this, I found that Very had pre-orders available on the PS5 Pro with disc drive so went ahead with the order, it should be here by the 29th November. Great time to be alive, been gaming since I was 13 and started with the Atari back in 1979 , all the kids in the street would pile into whoever owned the console's bedroom and marvel at this fantatic new phenomenon!! Still love gaming at 58 years old and with VR it is just fantastic. Cheers all, happy gaming !
77” LG OLED here with PS5 Pro. Biggest improvement is from games that have implemented PSSR. Quite a few games were starting to look soft/blurry in performance modes on PS5, the Pro has completely resolved that for me. Because of OLED’s instantaneous pixel response, 30FPS is especially rough, so using 60FPS modes are more of a priority for us.
I genuinely think the current gen should last longer tbh. A good percentage of the current gen consoles life span was cross gen games, I think we haven’t gotten anything that really hasn’t pushed the boundaries as much imo

No, Sony and ALL console manufacturers do the same with base console launches. They sell it at a loss, hoping to make up in game sales. Sony first party PS4 games still look better and run smoother than most 3rd party modern games on current gen consoles. It's like they use the extra hardware so they don't have to bother optimizing, kinda like a PC. It really feels like we just have PS4 Pro Pro and PS4 Pro Pro Pro.
The PS5 / PS5 Pro is the same concept as Xbox Series S / Series X but done correctly. You start the generation with a minimum baseline and then once that has been established you release an upgrade. The problem with Series S was that the Series X was the baseline which means the S has always been seen as a compromise or step down.
I bought one. I like it but also I wanted to get back to console gaming. I owned a ps5 xsx and I have a gaming pc. Everything runs and looks better on my pc but I’m just tired of sitting at my desk gaming. There is something fun about sitting on the couch, relaxing and gaming. And for most games I can’t tell THAT much of a difference in quality between pc and console. The biggest difference is fps, which for me only matter for competitive games.
Idk man UE5 and AI upscaling is kinda like a common thing in this gen ATP and these consoles released just a bit to early as they operate solely on raw hardware power, and thats like a pre 2022 thing. Advancements in tech has skyrocketed so quickly these last five years the 2020 consoles cant brute force their way through this generation.
If ordinary people can barely notice a difference, even at 3x zoom, between the PS5 and PS5 Pro, we are going to need a team of image scientists showing us graphs depicting improvements when we compare to PS6. It's not image quality. It's frames. I usually play my Playstation games in Fidelity mode at a locked 30 fps. Now I can play in Fidelity at 50 to 60 fps. That is a huge difference. You can downplay the image quality enhancements, but there is no denying the improvements to frames per second no matter how you spin it.

DF has already told people they zoom in because its hard to see differences with YT compression stream videos, especially depending on a persons display that they are viewing it, and seeing it with your own eyes on a proper display shows the real impact that is different than what you'll see on YT. For many, they will never have any xp outside of a YT streamed video until way late. They are still the first ones to talk and make judgements though.
Nope. PS4 Pro and One X at least had a purpose, elevating the base consoles from 1080p base to 4K. PS5 Pro has none, it's basically bumping PC presets from High to Very High. Add that to the fact this generation got basically no games and it's just a joke.
If you go to Performance Mode it will often times drop your resolution back down to 1080p - in some cases even below that. So, the purpose is quite similar to the PS4 Pro and One X in that regard.

I am thankful it is available and glad I have one for the sole reason it makes Space Marines more palatable. But completely agree it is an iterative improvement that isn't for everyone.
Most viewers watch this on their mobile phones. then there is also the youtube compression. If they didn't zoom in you would not see any diffenrence. I own a pro and on my television i can see a diffence that is bigger than what you see in these videos

I think mid-gen upgrades hurt the current gen users, companies will start prioritizing optimization for the highest-end console, which should be easier in theory. Also, I can't help to go a bit conspiranoic and imagine that Sony will "suggest" companies to start targeting 30fps for the regular PS5/XSX|S and leave the 60fps for the Pro.

Nah, the customer base is still largely PS4! Most games are still designed for that consoles and then just add higher rez/frames/RT for PS5/Pro. Guaranteed when 6 comes out this will still go on, people are not upgrading.
Was it entirely necessary? Maybe not. For those who can afford it though, it's a welcome upgrade. However what is really great is that Sony have placed a flag in the ground for continuing to own your own high performance hardware. I find it interesting that they released this just at the point that GFN are placing really unpopular caps on their service. Lounge room gaming lives in a console, not in a cloud.

Not really, they wanted that cheap entry point for potential gamepass users Series X is pretty much the early advanced option, I can see what they were going for and it's definitely not in their benefit releasing more powerful hardware. Well not with the current tech inside these consoles.
From Sony’s perspective, they were already planning PSSR since the launch of PS5, and they also had to beta test this tech. So essentially PS5 PRO is just the beta test for PSSR, because they can’t just introduce untested tech on a completely new gen. They will have a chance to improve PSSR on PS6. It doesn’t matter to Sony whether PS5 PRO sells or not, it’s a risk they are willing to take!!
It is frustrating to need an upgrade mid-gen to address such issues. As John said, the choppy performance often seems attributable to software problems, not hardware ones. Games just aren’t as lovingly optimized as they used to be, and with mid-cycle upgrades becoming the norm, I don’t see that changing.
Sadly it's hard to predict if the PS6 will have a Blu-ray player, otherwise the PS5 pro would be appealing knowing it would be the best machine with a physical media compatibility with backward compatibility...
I wanted the PS5 Pro but i expected a disc drive and stand with the current pricing. In EU its around 900$ without the stand and disc drive, i just cant justify that price tag since i dont want a console without a disc drive, and over 1000$ for a console is stretching it to far for me as PS% pro wont have patches for every game. I already have the base PS5 with disc drive so i`ll be fine. Its Switch 2 next for me and then PS6 when it releases :)
At this point in the generation, what we need is costs to be cut not more powerful hardware. Base consoles should MSRP at $400 and they’re just not getting there. I still haven’t upgraded from my One X as the costs haven’t come below $400.
We're still in record inflation economy. The chip shortages (like all shortages from Covid shutdown) have set a new price floor that will never go down or are at least here for a very long time.
What do you mean, they have always done that. They now have a CPU that can run at 60fps in many cases, and even 120fps in a few. That wasn't going to happen on a PS4 Jaguar CPU. There's more options this generation, but the intent is the same. 60fps modes are always going to be harder on the GPU than 30fps. Sacrifices always have to be made, even on hardware much more powerful than a PS5 Pro. Very few can say that they run 4k DLAA max settings. Every game has compromises on console hardware, a Pro just means less compromises, and whether they put that into resolution, draw distance, more NPCs/AI, or RT.... is up to them. Its important to know every individuals personal feelings doesn't represent the world as a whole, and whats important to some may not be as important to another. There are console players who do want the best visual fidelity/frame rate possible, and a PS5 Pro is here for them. Some barely game and spend most their time on social media, the PS5 is there for them, or even the PS4. I know people still on a PS4 because they use it mostly for Netflix and general media, not gaming.
I am throughly enjoying the ps5 pro. I recently went through Dark Souls 2 on PC with the lighting mod and I checked it out on PS5 pro which is a PS4 game not expecting much but the HDR, sharper image stuck out at me more than the PC + lighting mod.

I don’t know why but playing cod black 6 and the old the division 2 on my ps5 pro is more smooth, I don’t if just the frame rates or WiFi 7 with the pro and am playing on 70 inch QLED Samsung the games look beautiful the question is worth the upgrade yes and no better wait price go down
You don't have to. The issue is with the game creators not Sony. The Pro fixes my Outer Worlds Spacers Choice performance but the developers of that game should have optimised it themselves which is why the pro is very useful.
I bought a PS4 Pro because, at the time, it felt like it was worth buying the very best version of that console - I think largely because there were a number of key upcoming games to look forward to…. Yeah, I can’t say the same for this generation

I have a mid feeling that a 4nm 17TF PS5 Pro costing 699 wont translate well to either a cheap or a much faster PS6 which will possibly be made in a 2nm node or something...

Here's another benefit of the new Pro... It was a smart move for Sony, because I'm now re-purchasing the games I used to play on Xbox and now playing them on the new PS5 Pro for the much better frame rate and improved graphics.

I got my ps5 pro held off unboxing it. Finally did. When you play ff7 rebirth at 60 in 4k it totally makes you love it. I hate that we still get 30fps for it. It’s like stop. We just want 60fps. Stop the extra 30fps modes. Cerny made it clear 30fps sucks ass, yet they still put 30fps modes on it

It should be on the developer’s shoulders to pick a framerate target and maximize a game’s potential at that target. Plus, it was stated that these modes were kept so people can compare the differences and choose the mode they want to play for specific games. I have been testing different modes and have been glad to have been given the options and to be able to see the differences of what PSSR is capable of and the potential of it. The 30fps fidelity modes have been far smoother in 30 and look great. Not to mention the fact that there are still some people who actually do like 30fps. Those saying "nobody like 30fps" think they are the only people to be considered in this world and think the world revolves around them-- narcissists.
As far as Pro variants go, I think the Switch needed a Pro version very much. The wait between the Switch and it's successor is excruciating. Especially when considering how much of a stutterfest some switch get. A Pro model would have eased performance issues on a lot of games like Mario and Luigi Brothership. With Bayonetta 3, the textures were often low resolution and muddy in appearance. The Mortal Kombat, Witcher 3, and Hogwarts games looked cruddy. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom would really slow down in some places. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were basically broken.

Not only that now that people know Sony is going to make pro consoles when the PS6 comes out no one will buy it cause they will want to wait for the ps6 pro instead this is going to hurt Sony in the long run. I mean really why would anyone buy the ps6 when if they just wait a few years the pro version will be out and be better then the base PS6.

I'm really enjoying the mid gen refresh. The only thing that I worry about is whether or not it was a test market for increasing the price of consoles to an outrageous amount like $1,000. Yeah this is cool. Yeah this is nice but our console is now going to cost $1,000? Especially when you consider the fact that our phones now cost more than that. I think this was a market test.

Well I find it's different all round, if one cannot afford it dont complain don't buy it, it has more going for it I'm noticing the difference, if one buys a car with a slightly higher bhp than the last model, it gives you one second on the 0 to 60 time yeah if one can afford it one will have it because its slightly better. It allows for higher frame rates with higher visuals to be both toggled on. Only necessary from the standpoint that the PS5 gave users the option to toggle "performance mode" smoother/higher FPS, or "fidelity mode" raytracing/more detailed rendering, as the PS5 is not capable of toggling both. Why wouldn't anyone want that? Maybe not for $700, but are people complaining about the price/performance return, or that the PS5 Pro exists for those who don't care about the price?
It doesn't matter if we needed this or not. Thanks to the success of the PS4 Pro, many people were expecting a mid-gen refresh to come out and to their credit, they were right. I picked one up on Friday and so far, it does make a difference in many of the titles that were enhanced and has really helped improve boosted titles too.
I own a PS5. And while I am far from rich, I've been an avid gamer since the ColecoVision and this is something I would normally pick up even if I don't need it. I get how it works. Any cutting edge technology costs more and over time it trickles down to everyone over time and at a cheaper price so I don't mind paying a premium to help move tech forward that will eventually benefit everyone. I already said I'm not rich, I make a decent living but I'm terrible with money. I give a large portion away to help my family. If I lost my job, in a couple months I would have nothing. And yet I would still buy this console, if it only included the disc drive. It is really that simple. My physical collection is what is most important to me. I don't buy fake game discs either that require downloads. if I buy a game I want it to work 20 years later. It is a very simple concept. Until game companies say "you are renting this game" and drastically reduce prices, it is only complete physical game discs for me. Also why I avoid anything requiring online. If the pro included a disc drive, I would already own one. And if I didn't, I would run out to the store right now and buy one.
The jump from PS4 to PS4 PRO was graphically big but that's not the case for PS5 and PS5 PRO so it's smart to save the money and wait for the PS6 especially when everything has gone up in price and not least consoles and video games.
I have a PlayStation 4 Pro and despite originally wanting the PlayStation 5 Pro I’m just going to get a Slim in the Black Friday sales which should see me through to the next generation
Depends on your hardware. If you are apart of the 10% rocking a 4k 120hz display, the PS5 Pro is going to be more beneficial. Those 60fps modes on the base PS5 were straight up ugly at times. Also VRR kicks in at 48fps+, so for those kind of displays where they can unlock it beyond 60 and have a consistent VRR experience, or even up to 120fps, it is a nice way to play. For most people on a budget 4k 60hz display though that already enjoy the look of PS5 60fps mode, or 30fps mode, yeah they don't really need anything else. Pretending it to be binary, and 1 = smart, 0 = not smart, is inaccurate because there are other variables and not everyone has the same equipment, or eye balls.
I wish developers, especially Japanese developers would focus more on optimization for their software, but it is nice to be able to see games struggling on the base version of the console, running locked or closed to locked at 60fps and with high fidelity. I just wish they would release the PS5 Pro going forward for $750 but WITH a disc drive. “Pro” products should come with all the bells and whistles. The vertical stand and disc drive should have been a given. Spending $810 plus tax here in the US to get my Pro hurt a bit. 😅
PSSR is a game changer. Bringing 30 fps games to 60fps in 4k. For me, it was worth it. As more PSSR titles are added, PS5 Pro will rapidly be the ideal way to experience your PS5 games
I was suprised with Jedi survivor pro enhanced. Well at least till I got to the main hub area then it collapsed. Shimmering shadow flickering on grass areas. Shame because up to that area the game was running like a real upgrade. Ray tracing 60fps smooth with super sharp resolution. It looked stunning. Dying light 2 is also a lot better.
I got the ps5 pro and I am absolutely thrilled with it. Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, Resident Evil 4, HFW, Dragons Dogma 2 (to just name some of my favorite games at the moment) look and run absolutely incredible. However, the pricing and the disk drive not being included is absolutely shameful.
Stop lying. There’s literally no difference between Elden ring on the pro and the base. Dragons dogma still runs like dogshit, rest are just minor improvements

When there is no need, create the need. Marketing for beginners :) The investment in hardware development regarding the expected sales margin and making people talk about the platform while reusing the same games, sometimes with upgrades, is probably better financially adding these “tocks” to the “ticks”.
I’m convinced that Sony did this to test some features like PSSR. Developers and Sony can start working of this technology and when PS6 arrives, this technology will be normal. By normal Developers would have had nearly 4 years with it.
Too each their own..I'll stick with PS5 og until the next gen. There hasn't been alot of next gen titles because of gimping the games to still run on last gen. Unfortunately until the stop making the requirement to support last gen the dev's won't unleash the hounds as it's cost prohibitive to dev to seperate versions of the game.
Honestly playing The Last of US part 1 and flipping between Pro, regular fidelity and regular performance modes you can really tell the difference. Pro mode is a huge improvement over both other versions.
Currently there's only a selected amount of games that take advantage of the hardware. Unpatched games have a minimal improvement and sometimes not noticeable. I regret mines, i only have a handful of games that are patched.@@Zawq204
@@Zawq204 I have a PS5 Pro and I don't regret upgrading at all, even if it was costly to do so. As someone who vastly prefers the convenience and plug-and-play nature of console gaming over PC gaming, the upgrade has been absolutely worth it for me. I cannot see myself going back to the regular PS5. The benefits I've personally noticed most are: - Games genuinely look noticeably better, including PS4 games. Some games have PS5Pro-exclusive visual additions as well (Demon's Souls has a few areas that really show this off) - Games run much smoother (especially newer PS5 games such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which on base PS5 is a blurry mess in performance mode and has terrible framerates in graphics mode. On PS5 Pro, FF7 Pro runs FF7 near-flawlessly while still looking gorgeous) - An extra 1tb of additional storage space over base PS5 (You can always buy an SSD for base PS5, but at that point, why not just spend a little bit extra and just do a full upgrade?) - Remote play via PlayStation Portal seems to be more stable for me AND benefits from many of the improved visuals and framerates of the Pro.
@Zawq204 the Last of US part one is the only game I've played so far with a Pro mode. The biggest difference I noticed was going from regular fidelity to Pro mode the game runs soo much smoother. I run my pro on an LG OLED 4k with 2.1 hdmi capable of 120hz and VRR. I've not noticed much if any difference on PS4 or none optimised PS5 games. If all depends on what developers decide to pack into the pro modes.
I bought one, so far the promise of Quality mode but at 60fps has stayed true for all the PS5 Pro enhanced games I’ve tried. PSSR also really cleans up the image compared to the TAA artifacts I’d see in so many other games. If you’re on a nice 4K display, it’s a very noticeable improvement in sharpness and smoothness. Brings my console games much closer to my PC in terms of clarity.
For me buying the PS5 Pro meant I didnt have to spend twice as much on a gaming PC. I love my PS and Im well into the ecosystem but It used to annoy me that I had to choose performance or graphics (hence why I considered a PC). Dont get me wrong, the price is silly considering the PS4 Pro was about £100 more than the base back in the day.. but certainly bridges the gap.
They way I view the PS4 --> PS4 Pro, and now PS5 --> PS5 Pro is that it's more of a half generation at launch, and then the _real_ version of the console with the 'Pro' model. In that regard, I really really hope the PS6 is designed so a 'Pro' mid-gen refresh is not needed.
Yes it sort of undercuts the whole “premium version” of the PS5 argument. Also, might as well have come in a brown paper bag. Such a sloppy presentation when opening a $$$ product.
That was intentional in order to lock you into a closed store front where you pay much higher prices for games you could have gotten cheaper on physical disks. Consoles have always been a scam long term but most people won't admit this.

So moral of the story if you had a ps5 already don't buy it but if you never owned a ps5 like me just go for it.
Except you left blu ray drive and stand out of the equation. You can get those included for the $500 base console. They will cost you another $100 plus fornthe pro, and you can't even GET the drives right now except for scalpers

Tbh, ps5pro makes perfectly what the intention is: I play now Star Wars Outlaws in fluent 60 fps with a nice fidelity. That was not possible with OG ps5. If all games are doing exactly that, the money is well spent.
I figured consoles getting to the 700 price point would become a reality but I didn’t think that would happen until the next generation. Felt like the next Xbox would’ve been the culprit.
Got to feel sorry for Amazon, they already have 20 million shipped PS5s they will never sell, now they have 5-10 million PS5 pro's on the way. Next Amazon Prime will be getting longer adverts.
Console sales are down overall. The Ps2 was the best selling console for Sony. They have declined every year since that benchmark. The Nintendo Switch is the only console to do numbers anywhere close to the Ps2.

its too much of the wrong question being asked. ps5 pro is not intended as a "must have" upgrade. there was a lot of uproar about the price tag on this thing and yeah having owning it id say right now its not worth the price tag..but its still a nice optional upgrade to have if you can afford it. but don't sweat it if you just want to keep your ps5 and your disc drive that seems to be the critical thing putting off so many people off the ps5 pro, you're still getting the same games and a similar ball park experience. id say it probably will be worth it down the line when more games support it and maybe it gets a price cut as well.
It won't get price cut. PS5 didn't since launch, it actually is more expensive to buy because Sony has increased price (plus price of Dual Sense). PS4 Pro had only slight price reduction and Sony has stopped making it before PS5 release - they were simply selling out stock. This doesn't bode well. I would say that it is now or never to grab one, no point in waiting. If someone will wait a couple of years for games utilising the hardware better, they may as well stick to cheaper base model because we are 3-4 years away from PS6 at this point.
Honestly considering that in at least a few cases PSSR doesn’t even provide better image quality than console FSR2 implementations, it does seem pretty mediocre thus far. Paying over $700 for games to run marginally better and often just look different (but apparently worse in certain respects) sounds painful. Glad I didn’t buy one at any rate.
Gaming has got to the photography level. Those is how we compare mega pixels and fps sony vs nikon. Funny but this is the future and probably will be like this moving forward should be all about detail.

A consistent 4K @ 60fps minimum is still a pipe dream for consoles.
This gen should've targeted 1440p. It's all this silly 4K marketing that we have to thank for. People don't understand just how massive a 4K output is. Nobody understands how much extra resolution 4K is compared to 1080p, the leap is massive.
The fact that people are already uttering "8K" is so vastly absurd is just goes to further show the massive lack of understanding around resolutions.
Depends on the game, they do exist, but they’re not going to look like Horizon or God of War to do it. Persona 3 Reload is a 4K 60 locked experience on console, and while it does look much better than most Atlus Games, it’s still very simplistic in relation to the aforementioned games. Sony just has an obsession with games that look and play like movies.
But yes the cost of native 4K is super high, and I’d rather have something run at a 1080p internal resolution with PSSR scaling it up, and have the frame rate hit 120 on the simpler games if that’s what it takes to get more 120fps console games.

its about losses not profit. the ps5 pro they want profit only so thats why its more expensive . the ps6 just like other generations they will initially start at a loss and make up for it through software sales thats how they make it cheaper
PSSR will be more refined when the PS6 comes out, so games don't have to rely on raw hardware as much, allowing for lower cost on hardware.
Im buying a pro as GTA launches id like to first see if they do a bundle and then for ps6 id the same as this gen wait for ps6 pro. :)

What people don't realize also that these videos when you see them on TV they don't compare remotely close to when you have a physically in your house. The improvement of the game is above and beyond. It's like how they said. It really improves on big television. everything is just clean, run smooth and the frame bonus is a plus. Stellar blade looks phenomenal and completely clean. It got rid of the weird objects like grainy effects that were happening in the background.

@@KnowledgeSimmons doubt. Extremely noticeable enhanced games. They are night and day PLUS past not patched keep their targeted fps. It only stabilizes older games that have not been patched, but the patch games look phenomenal. And you get a huge benefit the bigger of the TV because it gets rid of all the artifact which was common in some games.
I have friends who came over test it when I bought it and they said they could tell the difference instantly before I went back to their home so it's not just me saying this tons of people said that. And as I said, before, you instantly noticed the difference with enhanced games. Which either give you 4K resolution on a game that used to be 1080 P on performance, 4K and high frame rate.
The lighting and the reflection stand out 3 to 4 times because that was one of the bonuses of binding enhanced games if it's patched for it, they stand out riding your face, even if you're going 90 miles an hour in a car or zooming by a Spider-Man with windows from buildings coming closer it's noticeable to the point where it's in your face. Unlike the original which had tiny upgrade for lighting/reflections that you rarely noticed it is now in your face.

You don't even have to know tech to notice the difference, especially when frame rate is something you feel in games. This sounds to me like you're just playing a game for the sake of playing and most likely either don't have compatible hardware or one of those types of people that are used to playing a game with everything set a default and not worry about it.

I have all the newer games and everybody that come over the house instantly noticed it, including myself. If you can't tell the difference, you either have a small TV, settings are not correct or non-compatible game. HZ increase in detail, the character no longer moves around like a fighting in mud/slow now a stable 60 FPS. Reflections and lighting instantly increased reflection more than normal.
If you don't know the terminology, then you won't even know what's been improved.
Have a 77” oled and I’m about to do an apples to apples on the base vs ps5 pro. I’m hoping the uptick in resolution is more noticeable on big screens (65” +). Problem is so many people are judging reviews from compressed, low resolution TH-cam videos on their phones or they own TVs or monitors smaller than 55”.
As someone with a series x i dont see the point of a mid gen console. I dont even see the point of getting next gen unless theres next gen only games that are must haves for me. If theres cross gen games, im going to keep using my current console until that ends.

Playstation keeps remastering games because people keep buying the same game over and over again.
Sure the last of us looks good on the ps5 pro. But it also looks good on the ps5, ps4 pro, ps4 and ps3.
That's why we haven't seen a new elder scrolls game or GTA. Its cause instead if rushing to make a new one. They just resell the old one over and over until sales slow.

Can’t believe people don’t understand the point of this. A single console for 8 years is impractical with tech advances. Hence a mid gen refresh. Cars do it all the time. Agreed that current gen games are not incentivized to upgrade for it but games from next year on will use it. My prediction is 2026 games will be the ones being mg built for it. 1:35 preach, hardware making up for faults in the software. The true fault is with the publishers not allowing resources to go into the game, not investing in graphics programming talent, and the emphasis on suboptimized middleware. We see time and time again that base PS5 handles 4k60 with deliberate design choices made, often with a set of compromises that most people don't even notice (see GoW:Ragnarok and screen space reflections, visible, but unnoticed as people were more blown away by the fine art overall). The talent and budget available to projects in order to remediate the middleware tech optimization is absent from almost all AAA titles. We are not seeing the level of controlled preoptimization that was present in the last Uncharted game, not by a mile, but by like 100 miles. We get a stuttery 30fps mess with RT as a checkbox feature, and res scaling sending the resolution down to the dirt, with a pretty 4k UI for most games. PS5 Pro is just a brute force PC-like approach to overcome this lack of investment.
Another important thing to mention about why everyone liked the PS4Pro is becuase it costed the same as launch PS4, Sony simply did a price cut of the og PS4 and even the price difference was minimum. It was also released during a time when there was tins of quality exclusives.
Anybody who thinks Sony will release the PS6 cheaper than the PS5 Pro's launch price is crazy, even though I would love them to be correct. This is what is called "anchoring", they are aiming for a higher launch price point for their upcoming console, which will give them more wiggle room to be profitable from the get-go. I guess they could also make the console more powerful than how it could be at a 500-600 price point too, but I think they'll just use it to be profitable first, and improve the launch hardware second.
You do understand they need mass adoption because the vast vast vast majority of their income is from game sales and subscription fees. Raising hardware profits 10% and sacrifice 50% of sales would be dumb.

@ please google “List of PS5-only games” on Wikipedia. The list is 21 games long. TWENTY ONE GAMES. Every single other game on the PS5 is also on PS4.
And many of those 21 games are actually remasters (TLOU 2, Demon Souls) that are also playable on the PS4, just a different version. A lot of the others are VR.
Outside of Astrobot and perhaps a few others, there are very few games that are PS5-only.

I have the pro, it’s needed for me personally but I think it’s what the PS5 should have been when it came out. Games that I’ve tried look and play so much better.
The problem is the long development cycles. The generation gap is still the same. But release of games takes 4 to 7 years. And at best we get like 1 game from our favourite developers. And if that turns out to be a live service or something that's lacklustre it's even more frustrating because we waited so long and we have to wait even more.

I agree, the PS5 is in a far stronger state and position than the PS4 was when the PS4 Pro came along. The PS4 Pro defiantly had more impact on games and brought more to the table over a base PS4, than the PS5 Pro has done so far, over the base PS5.
I honestly don't think that a "Pro" refresh was really needed at all this gen. If Sony was really that concerned, then they should have just skipped the PS5 Pro entirely and moved the PS6's release forward by a year or two (2026 or 2027)
As for Dev's!! They are just getting lazier and lazier and are releasing games in poorer and poorer states. It's now a case of "Let's just quickly grab the cash n' run".
I bought one. It sure is not necessary, but considering I can sell my original ps5 at a pretty good price, the cost seems less insane for a nice boost in performance.

I've watched so many reviews on the pro including Digital Foundry's opinions and thoughts and have ummed and arred for a while about getting one. Playing games on my OG PS5 connected to my LG C65 OLED I wonder how much better graphically can the games get; they already in many cases look amazing. Great time to be alive, been gaming since I was 13 and started with the Atari back in 1979 , all the kids in the street would pile into whoever owned the console's bedroom and marvel at this fantatic new phenomenon!! 77” LG OLED here with PS5 Pro. Biggest improvement is from games that have implemented PSSR. Quite a few games were starting to look soft/blurry in performance modes on PS5, the Pro has completely resolved that for me. Because of OLED’s instantaneous pixel response, 30FPS is especially rough, so using 60FPS modes are more of a priority for us.

Honestly, this wasn’t necessary. It’s a cash grab for Sony. The fact that we are even asking if it was necessary, shows that it wasn’t. Show me a major feature or something new in functionality this gives us? I mean is this enabling for anyone 8K, very noticeable raytracing etc? It’s like everyone forgot the series x is a $700 console. The reason we only payed $500 was only due to gamepass sales being so high they were able to subside the hardware cost. Sony is a hardware company so they naturally have a different approach. Sony need to make money if only $1 from each piece of hardware or it will fail.

The PS5 / PS5 Pro is the same concept as Xbox Series S / Series X but done correctly. You start the generation with a minimum baseline and then once that has been established you release an upgrade. The problem with Series S was that the Series X was the baseline which means the S has always been seen as a compromise or step down.

I bought one. I like it but also I wanted to get back to console gaming. I owned a ps5 xsx and I have a gaming pc. Everything runs and looks better on my pc but I’m just tired of sitting at my desk gaming. There is something fun about sitting on the couch, relaxing and gaming. And for most games I can’t tell THAT much of a difference in quality between pc and console. The biggest difference is fps, which for me only matter for competitive games.

Idk man UE5 and AI upscaling is kinda like a common thing in this gen ATP and these consoles released just a bit to early as they operate solely on raw hardware power, and thats like a pre 2022 thing.

I'm an ordinary gamer I can tell you there's a big difference with the Pro, quite impressive when PSSR is active.
It's not image quality. It's frames. I usually play my Playstation games in Fidelity mode at a locked 30 fps. Now I can play in Fidelity at 50 to 60 fps. That is a huge difference. You can downplay the image quality enhancements, but there is no denying the improvements to frames per second no matter how you spin it.

DF has already told people they zoom in because its hard to see differences with YT compression stream videos, especially depending on a persons display that they are viewing it, and seeing it with your own eyes on a proper display shows the real impact that is different than what you'll see on YT. For many, they will never have any xp outside of a YT streamed video until way late. They are still the first ones to talk and make judgements though.

If you go to Performance Mode it will often times drop your resolution back down to 1080p - in some cases even below that. So, the purpose is quite similar to the PS4 Pro and One X in that regard.

I think mid-gen upgrades hurt the current gen users, companies will start prioritizing optimization for the highest-end console, which should be easier in theory. Nah, the customer base is still largely PS4! Most games are still designed for that consoles and then just add higher rez/frames/RT for PS5/Pro. Guaranteed when 6 comes out this will still go on, people are not upgrading.
Was it entirely necessary? Maybe not. For those who can afford it though, it's a welcome upgrade. However what is really great is that Sony have placed a flag in the ground for continuing to own your own high performance hardware. I find it interesting that they released this just at the point that GFN are placing really unpopular caps on their service. Lounge room gaming lives in a console, not in a cloud.

From Sony’s perspective, they were already planning PSSR since the launch of PS5, and they also had to beta test this tech. So essentially PS5 PRO is just the beta test for PSSR, because they can’t just introduce untested tech on a completely new gen. They will have a chance to improve PSSR on PS6. It doesn’t matter to Sony whether PS5 PRO sells or not, it’s a risk they are willing to take!!

It is frustrating to need an upgrade mid-gen to address such issues. As John said, the choppy performance often seems attributable to software problems, not hardware ones. Games just aren’t as lovingly optimized as they used to be, and with mid-cycle upgrades becoming the norm, I don’t see that changing.

In EU its around 900$ without the stand and disc drive, i just cant justify that price tag since i dont want a console without a disc drive,

At this point in the generation, what we need is costs to be cut not more powerful hardware. Base consoles should MSRP at $400 and they’re just not getting there. I still haven’t upgraded from my One X as the costs haven’t come below $400.

What do you mean, they have always done that. They now have a CPU that can run at 60fps in many cases, and even 120fps in a few. That wasn't going to happen on a PS4 Jaguar CPU. There's more options this generation, but the intent is the same. 60fps modes are always going to be harder on the GPU than 30fps. Sacrifices always have to be made, even on hardware much more powerful than a PS5 Pro. Very few can say that they run 4k DLAA max settings. Every game has compromises on console hardware, a Pro just means less compromises, and whether they put that into resolution, draw distance, more NPCs/AI, or RT.... is up to them. Its important to know every individuals personal feelings doesn't represent the world as a whole, and whats important to some may not be as important to another. There are console players who do want the best visual fidelity/frame rate possible, and a PS5 Pro is here for them. Some barely game and spend most their time on social media, the PS5 is there for them, or even the PS4. I know people still on a PS4 because they use it mostly for Netflix and general media, not gaming.
I am throughly enjoying the ps5 pro. I recently went through Dark Souls 2 on PC with the lighting mod and I checked it out on PS5 pro which is a PS4 game not expecting much but the HDR, sharper image stuck out at me more than the PC + lighting mod.

I got my ps5 pro held off unboxing it. Finally did. When you play ff7 rebirth at 60 in 4k it totally makes you love it. I hate that we still get 30fps for it. It’s like stop. We just want 60fps. Stop the extra 30fps modes. Cerny made it clear 30fps sucks ass, yet they still put 30fps modes on it

As far as Pro variants go, I think the Switch needed a Pro version very much. The wait between the Switch and it's successor is excruciating. Especially when considering how much of a stutterfest some switch get. A Pro model would have eased performance issues on a lot of games like Mario and Luigi Brothership. With Bayonetta 3, the textures were often low resolution and muddy in appearance. The Mortal Kombat, Witcher 3, and Hogwarts games looked cruddy. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom would really slow down in some places. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were basically broken.

I personally had a reason to buy it, I could buy a PS5 digital for my sons or I could give them my PS5 that I upgrade with a 2tb drive and buy the PRO for myself. Well, it was a no brainer for me I bought the pro and my Sons are LOVING having the PS5 base in their room. I'm really enjoying the mid gen refresh. The only thing that I worry about is whether or not it was a test market for increasing the price of consoles to an outrageous amount like $1,000. Only necessary from the standpoint that the PS5 gave users the option to toggle "performance mode" smoother/higher FPS, or "fidelity mode" raytracing/more detailed rendering, as the PS5 is not capable of toggling both. Why wouldn't anyone want that? Maybe not for $700, but are people complaining about the price/performance return, or that the PS5 Pro exists for those who don't care about the price?
It doesn't matter if we needed this or not. Thanks to the success of the PS4 Pro, many people were expecting a mid-gen refresh to come out and to their credit, they were right. I picked one up on Friday and so far, it does make a difference in many of the titles that were enhanced and has really helped improve boosted titles too.
“Expected” is correct but also a bit of a stretch. This is only because of the multi generation Slim versions. They will expect it for the pS6 though.

I own a PS5. And while I am far from rich, I've been an avid gamer since the ColecoVision and this is something I would normally pick up even if I don't need it. I get how it works. Any cutting edge technology costs more and over time it trickles down to everyone over time and at a cheaper price so I don't mind paying a premium to help move tech forward that will eventually benefit everyone. I already said I'm not rich, I make a decent living but I'm terrible with money. I give a large portion away to help my family. If I lost my job, in a couple months I would have nothing. And yet I would still buy this console, if it only included the disc drive. It is really that simple. My physical collection is what is most important to me. I don't buy fake game discs either that require downloads. if I buy a game I want it to work 20 years later. It is a very simple concept. Until game companies say "you are renting this game" and drastically reduce prices, it is only complete physical game discs for me. Also why I avoid anything requiring online. If the pro included a disc drive, I would already own one. And if I didn't, I would run out to the store right now and buy one.
The jump from PS4 to PS4 PRO was graphically big but that's not the case for PS5 and PS5 PRO so it's smart to save the money and wait for the PS6 especially when everything has gone up in price and not least consoles and video games.

I have a PlayStation 4 Pro and despite originally wanting the PlayStation 5 Pro I’m just going to get a Slim in the Black Friday sales which should see me through to the next generation
Depends on your hardware. If you are apart of the 10% rocking a 4k 120hz display, the PS5 Pro is going to be more beneficial. Those 60fps modes on the base PS5 were straight up ugly at times. Also VRR kicks in at 48fps+, so for those kind of displays where they can unlock it beyond 60 and have a consistent VRR experience, or even up to 120fps, it is a nice way to play. For most people on a budget 4k 60hz display though that already enjoy the look of PS5 60fps mode, or 30fps mode, yeah they don't really need anything else. Pretending it to be binary, and 1 = smart, 0 = not smart, is inaccurate because there are other variables and not everyone has the same equipment, or eye balls.
I wish developers, especially Japanese developers would focus more on optimization for their software, but it is nice to be able to see games struggling on the base version of the console, running locked or closed to locked at 60fps and with high fidelity. I just wish they would release the PS5 Pro going forward for $750 but WITH a disc drive. “Pro” products should come with all the bells and whistles. The vertical stand and disc drive should have been a given. Spending $810 plus tax here in the US to get my Pro hurt a bit. 😅

PSSR is a game changer. Bringing 30 fps games to 60fps in 4k. For me, it was worth it. As more PSSR titles are added, PS5 Pro will rapidly be the ideal way to experience your PS5 games

I was suprised with Jedi survivor pro enhanced. Well at least till I got to the main hub area then it collapsed. Shimmering shadow flickering on grass areas. Shame because up to that area the game was running like a real upgrade. Ray tracing 60fps smooth with super sharp resolution. It looked stunning. Dying light 2 is also a lot better.
The upscale machine to play remastered of remakes of the same 3 or 4 games 800€. Don't waste your money.

I got the ps5 pro and I am absolutely thrilled with it. Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, Resident Evil 4, HFW, Dragons Dogma 2 (to just name some of my favorite games at the moment) look and run absolutely incredible. However, the pricing and the disk drive not being included is absolutely shameful.
Stop lying. There’s literally no difference between Elden ring on the pro and the base. Dragons dogma still runs like dogshit, rest are just minor improvements
@merathe9391 why would I lie.. the improvements are clear as day. If it still runs dogshit then you either have the wrong settings enabled or not a great tv. Dragons dogma 2 runs at 60fps and Elden Ring too on Quality mode so I don't know what you're talking about.

Sony patterned the price of PS5 from PS4 Pro. So with the current price of PS5 Pro, I think we can assume that the PS6 will be priced higher.
John’s take on what the pro did for games like Stellerblade & HFW, changed my mind greatly. His analysis on the matter wasn’t what I was looking for, but the one I needed.

The investment in hardware development regarding the expected sales margin and making people talk about the platform while reusing the same games, sometimes with upgrades, is probably better financially adding these “tocks” to the “ticks”.
I’m convinced that Sony did this to test some features like PSSR. Developers and Sony can start working of this technology and when PS6 arrives, this technology will be normal. By normal Developers would have had nearly 4 years with it.

Too each their own..I'll stick with PS5 og until the next gen. There hasn't been alot of next gen titles because of gimping the games to still run on last gen. Unfortunately until the stop making the requirement to support last gen the dev's won't unleash the hounds as it's cost prohibitive to dev to seperate versions of the game.

Honestly playing The Last of US part 1 and flipping between Pro, regular fidelity and regular performance modes you can really tell the difference. Pro mode is a huge improvement over both other versions.
I'm thinking about upgrading to pro is it actually worth it? Like how much difference is there between the base and pro.
Currently there's only a selected amount of games that take advantage of the hardware. Unpatched games have a minimal improvement and sometimes not noticeable. I regret mines, i only have a handful of games that are patched.@@Zawq204
@@Zawq204 I have a PS5 Pro and I don't regret upgrading at all, even if it was costly to do so. As someone who vastly prefers the convenience and plug-and-play nature of console gaming over PC gaming, the upgrade has been absolutely worth it for me. I cannot see myself going back to the regular PS5. The benefits I've personally noticed most are:
- Games genuinely look noticeably better, including PS4 games. Some games have PS5Pro-exclusive visual additions as well (Demon's Souls has a few areas that really show this off)
- Games run much smoother (especially newer PS5 games such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which on base PS5 is a blurry mess in performance mode and has terrible framerates in graphics mode. On PS5 Pro, FF7 Pro runs FF7 near-flawlessly while still looking gorgeous)
- An extra 1tb of additional storage space over base PS5 (You can always buy an SSD for base PS5, but at that point, why not just spend a little bit extra and just do a full upgrade?)
- Remote play via PlayStation Portal seems to be more stable for me AND benefits from many of the improved visuals and framerates of the Pro.
@Zawq204 the Last of US part one is the only game I've played so far with a Pro mode. The biggest difference I noticed was going from regular fidelity to Pro mode the game runs soo much smoother. I run my pro on an LG OLED 4k with 2.1 hdmi capable of 120hz and VRR. I've not noticed much if any difference on PS4 or none optimised PS5 games. If all depends on what developers decide to pack into the pro modes.
I bought one, so far the promise of Quality mode but at 60fps has stayed true for all the PS5 Pro enhanced games I’ve tried. PSSR also really cleans up the image compared to the TAA artifacts I’d see in so many other games. If you’re on a nice 4K display, it’s a very noticeable improvement in sharpness and smoothness. Brings my console games much closer to my PC in terms of clarity.
For me buying the PS5 Pro meant I didnt have to spend twice as much on a gaming PC. I love my PS and Im well into the ecosystem but It used to annoy me that I had to choose performance or graphics (hence why I considered a PC). Dont get me wrong, the price is silly considering the PS4 Pro was about £100 more than the base back in the day.. but certainly bridges the gap.

They way I view the PS4 --> PS4 Pro, and now PS5 --> PS5 Pro is that it's more of a half generation at launch, and then the _real_ version of the console with the 'Pro' model.
In that regard, I really really hope the PS6 is designed so a 'Pro' mid-gen refresh is not needed.

Yes it sort of undercuts the whole “premium version” of the PS5 argument. Also, might as well have come in a brown paper bag. Such a sloppy presentation when opening a $$$ product.
That was intentional in order to lock you into a closed store front where you pay much higher prices for games you could have gotten cheaper on physical disks. Consoles have always been a scam long term but most people won't admit this.

@@KnowledgeSimmons you can get a disk used for cheap or a gamestore that has a sale or borrow a game from a friend. In a closed store front you pay what ever that store front charges you. It's the same with nintendo Mario cart 8 still cost 60 buck even tho that game is more than 4 years old.
PS5 pro is like upgrading from the 30 series to the 40 series. Not necessary but nice to have and has solid upgrades over the base hardware.

One my friend said to me: "Why i spent $700 on a gaming console?" and continue to say just buy the original ps5 because the pro is too expensive," i said, but the storage of the original ps5 is very low. And he replied do it like me, buy an external hard drive for $200. But i laughed because he spent $500 on the original ps5 and spent $200 to external hard drive so that is $700.
So moral of the story if you had a ps5 already don't buy it but if you never owned a ps5 like me just go for it.

Tbh, ps5pro makes perfectly what the intention is: I play now Star Wars Outlaws in fluent 60 fps with a nice fidelity. That was not possible with OG ps5. If all games are doing exactly that, the money is well spent.

Xbox One was mostly a 900p machine, which isn't horrible but not ideal.
Microsoft gaslighted everyone. They didn't release Xbox Pro because Series X sold like ass. PS5 is 5 to 1 in sales.
Console sales are down overall. The Ps2 was the best selling console for Sony. They have declined every year since that benchmark. The Nintendo Switch is the only console to do numbers anywhere close to the Ps2.
@snkfan ok that doesn't change the fact that the ps3 ps4 ps4 pro sales were all less than the Ps2 by far. That would be a decline in console sales.
Sonys best seller game now is a Microsoft game, hardware is a Bad business compared to software sales.

its too much of the wrong question being asked. ps5 pro is not intended as a "must have" upgrade. there was a lot of uproar about the price tag on this thing and yeah having owning it id say right now its not worth the price tag..but its still a nice optional upgrade to have if you can afford it. but don't sweat it if you just want to keep your ps5 and your disc drive that seems to be the critical thing putting off so many people off the ps5 pro, you're still getting the same games and a similar ball park experience. id say it probably will be worth it down the line when more games support it and maybe it gets a price cut as well.
It won't get price cut. PS5 didn't since launch, it actually is more expensive to buy because Sony has increased price (plus price of Dual Sense).
PS4 Pro had only slight price reduction and Sony has stopped making it before PS5 release - they were simply selling out stock.
This doesn't bode well. I would say that it is now or never to grab one, no point in waiting. If someone will wait a couple of years for games utilising the hardware better, they may as well stick to cheaper base model because we are 3-4 years away from PS6 at this point.
Honestly considering that in at least a few cases PSSR doesn’t even provide better image quality than console FSR2 implementations, it does seem pretty mediocre thus far. Paying over $700 for games to run marginally better and often just look different (but apparently worse in certain respects) sounds painful. Glad I didn’t buy one at any rate.
Gaming has got to the photography level. Those is how we compare mega pixels and fps sony vs nikon. Funny but this is the future and probably will be like this moving forward should be all about detail.

@@martinflores7354 Well if that was the case then no one would buy GPUs. After watching people compare games running on 4090s vs the pro on YT theres next to no difference. That being said any with a brain knows watching Yt with compression isn't a true representation. I have a 4070 and a Pro and a base bs5 and the Pro holds up against my 4070.

The only interesting aspect to me is PSSR but for the future PS6
