In both world wars Ukraine played a crucial role. And it has always been at the crossroads of multiple nations and has always been within their interests. The people of Ukraine have been suffering for too long.
Really struck by that story of the Ukrainian who was injured and lost two friends in the Carpathians due to unexploded ordinance from WW1. My heart hurts. So many of my closest friends have a very special affection for the Carpathians and that region of the country, including one, currently serving in the forces, who owns land there and wants to return there in peacetime to reconnect with their roots. I think regularly about how it will take decades to de-mine Ukraine; it is now the nation with the most mines in the world. This will require a multinational effort, lots of money, time, and bravery to do, as regardless of de-mining equipment, it is not a task without its dangers, and it is likely not just mines, but other unexploded ordinance may be present from the prolonged conflict in the Donbas.
I find the First World War really fascinating, in a way the Great War continues today. The Second, First & Cold can easily be seen as the same conflict, with Orwellian switching, which continues. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue launching devastating daily strikes ruining Ukrainian rear infrastructure.
