Great video … are you able to put the length of the small pieces of wood in a comment? I’m planning on building the same seat.

When laying out you should use a "running dimension". measure from the same point. Using the tri square and flipping the piece to mark out the dowels can lead to inaccuracies. Looks good tho!!

You're right...not sure why I didn't do that here. I was actually using that technique yesterday installing T+G pine when making cutouts for electrical boxes.

Thanks for making this video. Using imperial seems like a lot of unnecessary work, appreciate it though!

Thanks, Dennis! It's holding up well and we're off on a trip next week!

Hi, that looks like our canoe, is it a Cadorette? Also, our bottom flexes upward quite a bit when we put the canoe in the water, is it supposed to or should we be adding stringers to stop it from doing that? There are no visible cracks anywhere on the canoe.

It's an Old Town Appalachian. Love it for canoe tripping whitewater rivers!
I wouldn't put stringers down. If there are no cracks and it doesn't leak then keep paddling!

I would like to replace the large bulky plastic seats in my modern Coleman Scanoe... anything I have to worry about replacing them with this type of seat? Bouancy, wt distribution etc?

No worries...get rid of those plastic things! (I hate 'em...they're hard, cold, and pool water!).

Why not use a tenon ?

I thought the dowels would be faster.
