    3:44 am Spring Break 2024: Just finishing up a long weekend with loved ones off roading at Big Bend National Park Texas, earning another Black Gap Pass Badge. My stock 2020 JL Rubicon has done stellar service, here and Colorado’s Black Bear Pass, Poughkeepsie Gulch and other trails. Now it’s time to change the tires, so thank you for the suggestion!
    Happy Trails! 🤠

    I love how you are evolving the jeep by staying in the bounds of stock-like expectations. Keeping the suspension, geometry, overall weight, and tire scrub radius the same is what counts most as stock. Everything else is just minor mods that makes life on trails better. Wonderful series @Wayalife 👍 thoroughly enjoy this content and I'm a huge fan of Pippi

      I discovered this just recently. I bought a 2015 Wrangler Sahara to 'off-road' with some buddies. One friend has a 2023 Rubicon with all the factory bells and whistles (VERY capable). Another has a 2019 with all the after market bells and whistles.
      So long as clearance wasn't the issue (and it was) I could do everything they could on Pirelli Scorpion Road tires.

    So much to love about this video. My dad had a few j10s, and I grew up in that truck. I love that you put nittos on pippi. I have a set of 35s on my red sport s two-door. I'm about to trade it in for a 2022 2-door Rubicon, and I may just keep it stock with those same tires, for a while until gas gets a little cheaper. Have those same Gladiator Rubi rims on my JLU Sport but with the Falken ATs. Love that stock but not really stock look! Looks factory but something different versus typical Wrangler Rubi takeoff rims/tires. I just went with JLU Rubi takeoff suspension + 1/2" spacers and no issue with rubbing. Pippi's looking great!

    I really like the simple look of the Gladiator Rubicon rims. I took off the factory rims from my Gladiator Rubicon and put them on my Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4xe and it changed the look completely. I had to put the stock 20" rims/tires back on after a piece of metal tore a chunk into the sidewall of the tire. :( I will have to get it replaced before I go wheeling next week. Too bad Jeep will never make a 4xe 2 door. Love the looks of the 2 door. That is a classic Jeep look that will never fade.

      I can't speak for everyone but we like them a lot, especially for how we use them on this Jeep. It should be noted that we did purposefully get ours in a load range C. We did this for ride comfort as the E, while strong in the side wall, is pretty rough.

  • @backwoodstherapy
    @backwoodstherapy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As an owner of a Sport S with no lift on 33s, I knew those tires wouldn't rub. I've had mine fully flexed out and gotten no rubbing. I'm considering some 34s for mine. 35s will work with no rubbing if you're just running around town but with no lift, they start to rub when you flex them out. Upgrading to a 285/75/R17 would give a little more clearance but wouldn't be so wide as to cause problems when flexed. I might upgrade to a small spacer lift in the future, idk. The wife is 5'4" and already has problems getting in as it is.

    I love oem wheels. That was definitely right decision for this rig.
    Amazing what a little bit larger tire and aggressive tread can do. Real confidence booster too.
    Next may be coil spacers and little bit taller shocks and adjustable from track bar and raised rear track bar bracket center it all? Then beefier tie rod and drag link?
    It really never ends and becomes chain reaction, but i love it.

      Thanks. We tested out ECRI on this Jeep th-cam.com/video/l_a-bI0ZMkU/w-d-xo.html but have used Tazer on a couple of other Jeeps as well th-cam.com/video/81_evB9At3I/w-d-xo.html. We did encounter a very minor rub at a full turn but not at a flex so we did this to address it th-cam.com/video/M7AuI7OKHas/w-d-xo.html. A lot cheaper and easier than installing Rubicon fenders.

    Another great on and off-road tire is ProComp. They got me through the Rubicon trail with ease. I switched to KM3 a year after that trip, and I regret it every day on the road. Super rough.
    ProComp was smooth as butter on pavement.

      @wayalife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, we've run ProComp in the past and they are a nice tire that hooks up well on the rocks. They are made by Cooper and perform the same. A bit too soft for our taste though and found them to chunk and wear out fast due to the soft compound.

    I absolutely love your videos! I have been watching regularly as I patiently impatiently await my first Jeeps arrival. I was born in Reno but moved a lot due to military family, but I moved back to Reno for several years again in my early 20s. I’m no longer in Reno but when I was I would often take my truck up to Caughlin Ranch to ride in the mountains, appreciating the trails and letting my dog run freely beside me. I miss it dearly. I was wondering if you would consider doing a video riding up there some time. Either way, keep up the great work Eddie! Love the content brother.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just so that we're on the same page here, the 295 and 285 are how wide the tires are in millimeters. Assuming you'll be running your tires on factory wheels, I would stick with the 285 as they will do a better job of clearing at a full turn. If you want taller, look into 285/75R17.

    I love this! I have your exact jeep in a 4 door. How does the lower gear ratio handle the extra unsprung weight of those tires (particularly 5 & 6th gear). Do the LT tires ride harder than what you had or does the extra sidewall soak up the bumps better? I can feel the Rubi suspension coming next!! Love the music and video quality of your channel!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't say that I've ever though of 5th and 6th as being anything other than overdrive gears. I have found all the real power is in 3rd and it still is. We purposefully got these tires in a load range C. That helps them to be comfortable. What soaks up bumps better is running them at a lower than factory psi. I like to run about 30 psi. Happy to hear you're liking our videos 😎

  • @stephenlewis8143

    Nice job & great presentation. You do well with the camera & explanation. The tire options are ubiquitous with brands, styles & targeted use. And each tire store, arguably, has a preference for certain tires over another . And to the buyer, costs, discounts & desires can push one this or that direction. For 4dr.'s I see many going with some type of Mud Tire, but with 2dr., I see tire shops recommending something "lighter". I had a two door Rubicon with MT's on for a while and then a friend (tire shop owner) recommended a Goodyear Duratrac, feeling that would handle the road, backcountry and occasional four wheeling better than a MT (for that vehicle). The Nitto Range Grappler is a fine tire, particularly for a 2dr.; hopefully it meets the needs & desires of the 2 drivers.
