I was debating few years ago between 41 vs 36...end up going with 36 and honestly cannot be more happy with the decision...the watch just fits perfect in my opinion + the overall proportion of the watch and how confortable it feels without having a bulky feeling on my wrist. Since that moment I've never wear again any of my other watches on the bigger size and personally again I feel discomfort any time I try to hear them...recently got the dj36 mint is just georgeous and again perfect size and fit. @@pedrot1152 Yeah, personal preference is key. We have very similar wrist sizes and I feel 39 is too small. Happy to hear that you found a size that is perfect for you!
Definitely going for the 36mm... waiting on the silver version , fluted, jubilee... gorgeous understated class. Wears quite small on my 7 inch wrist but it's the perfect daily size. Much more comfy and light

Too expensive too shiny, and much better more useful watches out there for me, for a better price (Black bay 54 is one I'm looking at, or many others, but I'm pretty much over rolex at the moment. Didn't get a call in 12 months, even though I'm on two ad lists...apparently)
I am on the (long) waiting list for a DateJust, and I have both the green and blue motif on order to test out both. I’m starting to think the smooth blue dial may be the best looking. And of course, I’ve ordered both on jubilee with fluted bezel. What colour should I go for? I like the blue motif, but will is still be desirable in years to come? Any advice or help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

The 36mm is way more beautiful, more elegant and more useful. I had the gmt master 2 and yatchmaster with blue dial. never felt comfortable to wear daily and my wrist is 17 cm. The 36mm fix perfect for daily use and to Sport and formal occasions. The best Rolex ever
I agree. My wrist is 18.5 cm and the 36 Rolex watches fit perfect. Not too big, not too small. Love my 124270 and 16234. I even sold my Pelagos because I felt like a potato farmer with it on my wrist.
36 is useless is for bigger people. I’m 6’5 not sure of my exact wrist size but over 7 inches. I use to own a 36 DJ and had a couple people ask why I’m wearing a ladies watch… 41 for me dawg

@@GunGlutton that’s because people have been conditioned to think bigger == better for watches over the last decade. 7” wrist isn’t that big. I know people with larger wrists wearing smaller watches. The thing with them is, their masculinity is sturdy enough to withstand the second-rate insults of lesser men.
Thank you for this video. I recently purchased a 41 and it feels small lol but I checked the measurements and they are as said in the video. I thought I had a 36! Happy with my DJ 41 in oystersteel and yellow gold 👏🏼
Great Video. Excellent information/details etc - I was just thinking about a 36mm watch recently, so this video was perfect. Good thing is like most people, I have more than one watch, and a 36mm Rolex would be a great addition to any watch collection. People mention resale values - this watch size is in the sweet spot to be worn by men and women - thus the market for resale will still be strong. And then you remember the old saying - Never sell your Rolex.
I had the same debate few years ago 41vs36 and no brain with the 36...just feels perfect and once you will use 36 you will never be able to go on the big size again...is just confortable
The way the Rolex measures their watches is so strange compared to how everyone else does it. With me 52 mm wrist span, the 36 would be the way to go for me, but I still feel that it is just a bit too small.

I did have the 36mm blue dial and sold it unfortunately...while I have a 6.5 inch wrist and do believe I can pull off either the 36 or 41mm, it's nice having something more substantial on the wrist. Ageed ! There is a place for both in ones collection.
One significant difference is in the smooth bezel version of these watches. The 36mm has a domed smooth bezel whereas the 41mm has a flat smooth bezel. 36mm is my choice for the smooth bezel version of this watch.
The smooth bezel on the 36 is absolute perfection. Had some hands-on time recently before expressing my interest for the silver. Hope to get the call soon.

Nobody does watch comparisons like this gentleman. Could you do DJ 36 in steel versus Day Date 36 in white gold? I want to see if how good of a fight DJ 36 puts up despite costing only a quarter of DD.
This would be a very interesting. Owning both I can tell you that Day-date will be a clear winner here. The weight and the bracelet gives Day-date a huge advantage. If I have to chose only one watch for my collection it would be a 36mm Day-date made out of platinum with domed bezel. It’s a truly amazing watch.
If you were to buy a DJ41mm, with fluted bezel, it would be Rolesor (18ct) on the dial, and bezel, but what about the bracelet, lets say an oyster bracelet in that configuration, or would it be fully steel?
I am in this same dilemma! My AD has me down for a 36 DJ but I am always thinking should I change to 41? Resale value right now is in favor of 41 as the market for 36 is weak. However for a watch to stand the test of time I would bet money that the tried and true 36 will continue to be stylish 50 years from now as opposed to the 41 that might not be as timeless

Am I the only one that cant stop looking at the wimbledon indicie at 9? i understand its an attempt at balancing the dial, but its so out of place... id love a wimbledon, but this detail kills me
If the 41 hang off your wrist u need a 36mm when the watch hang it means lug to lug is to long for your wrist but all and all I chooses 41 but I gave to admit the 36mm is actually the perfect dimensions. And the 40 is best president size

Yea i was going to purchase a 36 and i swear it looks larger in videos and pictures when i put it on my wrist i said oh hell na (even though 36 is the original case size) i opted for a 41
Hafiz-I have been torn between the DJ 36 silver dial and slate, white rolesor, jubilee. My #1 watch is the GMT Master II in Red/Black bezel. I thought I wanted the most transition in dial in a second Rolex. After two months of reflection, the silver dial, hash indices seems so basic, almost washed out. I find the slate a dramatic contrast to the beauty of the white rolesor and jubilee. Can you chime in on this? I have an AD looking for me now, so I hope I will get it, soon. Thanks, Ned
7.25” wrist here - tried both. DJ 41 is a blingier watch but the DJ 36 wears much better on my wrist. PS - 36-38 mm Iis the classic and historically popular men’s watch size before the likes of Hublot, Panerai, etc made wearing a dinner plate on your wrist a fashion.
I don’t know all the fuss about the size. Everybody should put their money on what they feel comfortable with. Personally and from an aesthetically point of view concerning the proportions of the DJ the 36 looks best. I like smaller watches and only wear watches from 36-38 and I’m fine. The only exception is my 42 mm Speedy but the design of the case allows guys like me to wear them even with a wrist size of only 6.75 inches or 17 cm. I tried on the 41 DJ but for my personal taste it’s kind of out of place in proportions. Although I’m a gym dude with big forearms I could easily rock the 41 mm, but I prefer the original aesthetic of the 36 and it flows well on my wrist in general. The 41 just feels unnatural. It’s also important when trying on different sizes to always have a look in the mirror and how the watch is wearing from the side with your forearms exposed to get a whole view and not just only from above by looking on your wrist.
@r2l100 So I actually picked up my DJ 41 today and my AD had to order an extra link. I think my wrist is little over 8 inches in circumference, with 16 inch forearms and 20 inch biceps. I think the 36 would be comical but I’m definitely on the larger side of men lol.
@r2l100 Completely respect your view, but imho, wrist size of circa 7-7.5” is the divider… below then 36, above then 41, generally. I’m far from an arm wrestler, but I’m of stockier, muscular build and 36 just looks silly on me, especially when viewed relative to the whole arm. Even my wife (the boss! ;-)) agrees, and she really dislikes big, brash watches. All that said man, wear what works for you, if it’s 36 then all good! I think proportionally, at least in terms of the bezel, maybe the 36 is nicer than the 41, so that’s a plus! I think too watches are relative to whole collection: Wear a Sub(41) and then anything smaller will look noticeably so. Personally, my range is 39-42. Ps. Humans have got taller & bigger (fatter) over the last 100 years - fact. Mainly due to improved nutrition (and over indulging - certainly my case! Haha) So, whilst wrists themselves have likely not changed size, how a watch looks on them, relative the the whole body, has. All the best 👍🏻
I honestly think the 36mm is the goat for this particular piece. If I was a huge armed bodybuilder the 41 would be nice but the look of the 41 on an average wrist to me is just a bit silly. But if it makes you happy go for it.
Marketing, consumer perception. I believe the DJ41 measures at 39.5. They rounded up. But then added a 1mm for good (or bad!) measure. It’s strange indeed. I read it’s because generally people have wanted bigger watches over time so Rolex have played on this fact.
Hot take….both sizes are terrible for average sized mens’ wrists (6.5-7 inches) in 2024. 36 has become so acceptable for females that it looks almost delicate on a man in contemporary terms and the 41 is simply too big. My God they would sell like crazy it there was a happy medium at 38mm!
Great review..but the 36 looks way too small even on the model u used ..41 the way too go .. also In favor, the Datejust 2 over the Datejust 41 ..all day long

I have the exact same watch sized 36. Wimbledon dial, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, stainless steel. It looks perfect on my 18 cm wrist.

I sold my 41mm DJ, it seemed like a pan on my wrist. I bought a 36mm day date instead. If it fits Tony Soprano it’ll fit most wrists.
Things change .. sopranos was in the 90s .. and James galdofini wore a submariner in real life 👍

I used to have a 36 and for some how it looks small to me as my brother told me. So I sold it and get 41.

36 all the way. It fits all wrist sizes, subtle, pure class. Real dress watch prior to 2009 when 41 was released.

I never wear above a 34mm Rolex on my 9 inch wrist.

I honestly think the 36mm is the goat for this particular piece. If I was a huge armed bodybuilder the 41 would be nice but the look of the 41 on an average wrist to me is just a bit silly. But if it makes you happy go for it.

The DJ41 is actually measured to be 39.0 mm. Why is it not called DJ39?
Marketing, consumer perception. I believe the DJ41 measures at 39.5. They rounded up. But then added a 1mm for good (or bad!) measure. It’s strange indeed. I read it’s because generally people have wanted bigger watches over time so Rolex have played on this fact.
If only there is a DJ39!

36 sometimes look a bit small for men and 41 is a bit large. I used to have 36 but sold and got 41. Just preference.

Hot take….both sizes are terrible for average sized mens’ wrists (6.5-7 inches) in 2024. 36 has become so acceptable for females that it looks almost delicate on a man in contemporary terms and the 41 is simply too big. My God they would sell like crazy it there was a happy medium at 38mm!
