This was a really great and informative comparison!! For me the OP wins, super clean, classic watch which you can dress up or down. I know some will say you can do the same with the Datejust, but the uncluttered dial and color of the blue on the OP pushes it over the top for me. Please keep up these informative videos. All the best
Great content as always, Hafiz. I’m currently shopping these two watches and the OP is starting to win the race (if I can actually live without a date function!). I love the simplicity and balance of the OP face.
Update! I just bought the Datejust 41! I found an AD with multiple faces avail and went with the Rhodium dial on a jubilee with a smooth bezel. Thanks for your help with these videos!
Great comparison! I’ve been looking to see if the colors were in fact different since the official product photography seemed to show the OP blue as a much lighter shade of blue, but they do appear closely matching here
I had this exact DJ41 but i sold it after about 2 years. The DJ ist a very reflective watch especially in this configuration. The bezel and bracelet make it gleam in the light. I enjoyed that at first but after some time I realised that it wasn't really for me. I personally prefer the brushed look of the OP, it's less precious and more sporty and it attracts less attention.
I bought the same DJ on jubilee, loved it at first but just too bling for me. So I traded it in, topped up a some cash and got a Pepsi GMT. It wasn't a good deal really. But I just knew the DJ was a mistake and I had zero buyers remorse when I got the GMT. The GMT is quite bling too, but usually more to people who know what it is and I quite like that. I also love the brushed OP or even the Explorer 1 as the best everyday wear Rolex.
@@avarmauk Yes similar experience for me. When I got the DJ is was deciding between the DJ and the Reverso. The Reverso had always been my dream watch but at that time i thought of it as being too dainty, too dressy etc. and I kinda talk myself into buying the DJ because i thought it was more "robust", more sporty etc. ... well 2 years down the line i got rid of the DJ and got the Reverso Duoface that I should have gotten in the first place. I've never had any regrets buying that watch and since I have bought the Reverso I kinda don't have an interest in buying other watches because I just enjoy wearing it that much. I've worn it almost every day for the last 3 years. I've learned that you should buy what you truly want and not buy things that you tried to rationalize with your head. Rolex n00b here. If I were to order 2 DJs, one with oyster bracelet and one with jubilee bracelet, is the case between the 2 identical? I placed an order for 41 DJ with jubilee, but I’m thinking I like the oyster better. So I don’t know if I should call my AD and ask for a change, or get an oyster bracelet separately so swap out the bracelets when I want.
its good to see the differing opinions in the comments, I personally love a smooth bezel and an oyster bracelet over the fluted and the jubilee, but I guess if we all desired the same think life would be pretty boring, having said that I think both variants are beautiful
Another amazing review with so much attention to detail. Thank you, Hafiz! I bough the exact same DJ earlier this year, after watching your review of the watch and seeing that stunning blue dial, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet in the flesh.
As far as your tens of hundredths of a milimeter measurements are concerned, if indeed relevant to you as it seems to be, did it ever occur to you there is such a thing as micron error if measuring by hand? Or did you measure using a watch case laser micrometer?
DJ looks stunning, but I like more the understatement of the OP fore my lifestyle. What a great comparison between them and a great quality review. Thanks for showing us.
Another Amazing in-depth video, i have been doing my research the last few months on both models and trying to decide which one to go for, this comparison video made it quite clear for me, and i think for a lot of viewers as well. can't thank you enough brother
I have a submariner and a gmt master 2. since one week I own by coincidence a datejust 41 blue oyster smooth bezel. I like the clean look, but I also understand the flashy guys.. 😅. Good work as always. Greetings from Germany
Great video - thank you so much for putting so much effort in this video ... I will definitely go for the new OP41 (improvement movement as well ) ... I will take the OP41 anytime over the DJ
Thanks for making this comparison. Prior to this video, I would consider OP41 due to novelty, now I have completely changed my mind. I used to ignore DJ 41 in the past but I am sold!
Those measurements differences are mostly within the error margin of common calipers like the diameter and lug to lug. It seems to me they are the same.
Datejust is the classic Rolex design. It was the Rolex sport watch Before there was the Submariner. And it's the original design, way before the Daydate
The OP 41 wears more like a true 39mm as the Explorer 39mm wears and looks like a 41. Depending on the dial or bezel on the Date Just 41. Some variations look & wear bigger than others. I still prefer the classic 36mm size. It’s more elegant. The 41 is more for attention. The 41 Date Just can easily look tacky depending what you wear it with. The 36mm Date Just looks more versatile and just enough to be casual dressy and sporty.
You made a mistake with regards to the fit from lug to lug. The DJ has a pivoted end link on the bracelet that allows that watch to where true to the lug to lug size. The OP does not have a pivoted end end link on the bracelet and flares out at the case (does not pull straight down from the case) This brings the true fit of 51.5 mm vs ~47 for the DJ. This makes huge difference when comparing fit.
Hi. Thanks for pointing but it’s actually not true. 51.5mm is the dimension measured from outside of the link/bracelet. That’s not the true dimension to demonstrate watch wearability i.e the bracelet on the inside of the links is what matters and in both OP and DJ the bracelet sticks straight down internally and don’t pivot out, so the span of wrist needs to be only 47mm-ish for both DJ and OP to fit snugly. P.S: if you subtract thickness of bracelet links on both sides/lugs from 51mm, your watch span (lug to lug) will come down to same as quoted in the video.
@@HafizJMehmood I understand what you are saying but wearability includes how the case and bracelet are integrated. If the jubilee pulls straight down from the case it is a true 47mm lug to lug. The oyster flares out from the case essentially increasing the lug to lug to the flared part of the end link. This is the one thing over looked all the time. Tim from the watch box is someone who always notes the "true fit" with regards to this issue. I enjoy your reviews but I know this first hand having both a DJ with jubilee and a GMT with an oyster.
@@cal.3861 Hi. Thanks for the support. I have watches many, many videos of Tim and Watxhbox too and I fully understand what you’re saying. But I can confirm that on Oyster bracelet either on OP, Sub or older GMTs, the centre link of bracelet although does flare out externally, on the underside, the bracelet tapers straight down. I’ve tripled checked it already and internally the oyster bracelet’s span with centre link included is NOT greater than the lug to lug width measured externally i.e. internally the bracelet still sticks straight down and doesn’t flare out of the lug to lug dimension. Again, how watch wears is determined by the dimensions measured on the underside of the bracelet and its minimum span. Tim @ Watxhbox quotes external dimensions of the bracelet measured at centre link, and it causes confusion because that’s not the minimum span. You have to subtract thickness of bracelet links on both sides to identify the true minimum span or minimum wear of the watch. I’ve spent a lot of time researching this and being owner myself before being a reviewer, I very well understand the concern and confusion. Hope this clarifies.
But he just said he measures the extremity of the bezel, whereas the case protrudes slightly out from the bezel if you look straight down at the watch. It will likely still be less than 41 but more than the measurements cited.
The case below the bezel when measured exactly from the case is 41mm. As I quoted, I measured at the outer extremity of the bezel to explain the difference in sizes of faces of these two watches. The case slightly sticks out underneath the bezel, you can say roughly 1mm on each side of bezel (horizontally).
Fabulous review and comparison. Narration, voiceover so relaxing. Have you considered a career as a narrator? Picked up details such as the Rolex logo differences on the clasp. DJ41 still my pick for the proportions and the classic eponymous Rolex fluted bezel on Jubilee bracelet. But the price differential is real. Do you ever cover the movements in detail ?
I loved the perpetual, but regret she dont have the same bezel then the datejust, why? But tbe jubilee strap make a little more blingbling for me...but i could wear both with great pleasure

I think that the date wheel jars with the colour of the dial and that the dial colour will date the watch in the future - still prefer the white dial although it's harder to get with the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet combination.
Hafiz, I have come to really enjoy your reviews, especially because you show the watch on your wrist and I have the same wrist size, so I can get an idea of how a particular watch will wear on my wrist. BUT... there were at least 6 ads in this 12 minute video and it was so annoying and distracting that I could not enjoy this one. Great content otherwise.
I agree. I'm super grateful for your content but it was very off putting having a video every 2 minutes. Do you use other methods of monetisation? Ad revenue from a site and patron income could remove the need for so many ads?
I'm torn, I love the proportions of the 36mm DJ but it's a hair small. The 41(39)mm is better but the smooth bezel on the bigger model and overall proportions are way off to my eyes.
they need to make a DJ with putting the OP bracelet on it. I just love the OP bracelet my favorite of all rolex bracelets. My OP bracelet is just so perfect and the steel is amazing. The DJ fluted with jubilee def takes the cake when it comes to formal wear
Maybe you can use a can of compressed air to get rid of the fine dust on the pieces? It would help to reduce distractions and make actual imperfections more legible.
My 1983 two tone DJ with fluted still glitter and dazzles to light in a manner that oozes class for a vintage piece, I wear more than other more pricey brands, I bought it for a mere £1650 many years ago at Hatton Garden. I wear for gardening, cycling, jogging, formal meetings and it remains the most versatile watch I have come across.
Personally i very much prefer rolex’s 36mm work. I’m trying to choose between these teo in 36, but i feel the DJ is almost a must in two tone.. i love the 16233 from the 90s with a blue dial.. i’m probably holding off on a DJ until they give us a new blue dial two tone. So im leaning hard towards the OP. 😜
I would pick the DJ, but I guess it’s mainly because I already have a sub and a dressier watch would offer more variation. I’ve been following you for a while and your videos are simply pieces of art. Love everything you post

blue vs green ? your thought ?
@@justshazz01 green is maybe more collectable but I prefer wearing the blue
Green is very interesting piece. More fun than blue.
Green dial coming to the channel very soon 🙂
@@HafizJMehmood look forward to it
@@Treetopflyer777 i tend to agree with you. i made the purchase and i loving it !
Very well made video.
If you’re going to buy a DJ, it’s gotta have the fluted bezel! That’s what makes this the iconic dress watch! Of course this is only my opinion
I would pick the DJ, but I guess it’s mainly because I already have a sub and a dressier watch would offer more variation.
I’ve been following you for a while and your videos are simply pieces of art. Love everything you post
