As a Leinster man I felt the 2nd effort at integrating SA teams has gone well. We are all upping each others game and may it breed some great rivalries for the future too.
It's great to read a SA fan speaking sense. The commentator said that there are 8 Internationals in Cardiff and 1 in Stormers team. As you said the internationals are not back... there was alot of Cardiff youth players tonight mix with experienced players and new debutees. However, Cardiff missing 9 international players.
The one positive to come out of the mess that is Welsh regional rugby right now is to see all these kids playing for their regions. It will be a tough year but it will be good for them and Welsh rugby to see them getting more exposure aa lot earlier than they may have got it.
Stormers made a whole bunch of poor decisions like going for touch on their last penalty and then missing it. Gelant and Sacha losing the ball everytime they go for run is just ridiculous to keep playing like that, it just boggles my mind how they kept on doing it with that many handling errors resulting from it. They want to play the chaos game but you need to also have structure and do the basics well.
The Stormers obviously have their boks players to return but this was a really good performance from Cardiff. It’s what Welsh fans should be getting more often and shows that there is talent in Wales. It will balance out maybe later in the season when more teams have to go to SA but for the playoffs probably 6 teams are nailed on, Leinster, Munster. Ulster, Stormers, Bulls and Glasgow I would say leaving 2 spots up for grabs. A Welsh team needs to grab at least one of them but Benetton, Edinburgh the Lions and if the Sharks get their act together they will be fighting for those spots too. It’s a great competition.
