  • WA Fuel Supplies and Great Southern Fuel Supplies tanker drivers tackle the Bringo Hill, whilst 3 Grain trucks head downhill to Geraldton. Sorry about the wind noise, just a cheap camera🙂

    Australians have road transport sorted. Just shows what can be done in a big country when you start with a blank sheet of paper. Well done Australia. A great testing ground for drive axle tyres and a great market for trailer axles.

      It does not work out well for a lot of tourists here tho sadly. No concept of distance, heat, speed, night time, roo bars, grey nomads and Road Trains. A road trip here is a survival adventure.

    The twin steer with three drive axles was quite a sight! There are places I'd love to see before I die, and Western Australia is one of them.

      You'd have to make sure, to go to Port Hedland to see the iron ore being hauled by road. As also around Australia for other road train hauls.

      Don.t you guys have the 750? If you want power,the Volvo is unbeatable.So much torque. Here in the Netherlands the 750 FH16 is very popular with the heavy hauliers. I drive the FH and it is a wonderful truck.Drive Volvo for almost 30 years,big big Volvo fan.

      @@koorta-boodjor1522 never got stuck but the first one caught me by surprise and near rattled the teeth out of my head. Next one I stopped and walked, sucks losing momentum tho, so the rest I ran an experiment.... I went faster, slower, even tried jumping over. Nothing made them any better 'till I noticed there's a narrow strap welded across them in the middle, line it up just right and it's a smooth ride over hahaha.

      @@SimoWill75 Haha, I did like the jumping over one method! And yep, aiming for the centre bar strip, an expert for crossing over by then! I can't remember which road it was? But they removed some of the grids, and the property owners had to put fences in running parralel to the roads. Cause the cattle / sheep were a bastard of a problem for trucks and vehicle drivers at night.

    This is one killer of a hill. I know it as Bringo Bank. I drove trains over up this bank. Not one for the faint hearted. The rail line you can see at the end.

      My first side of the road breakdown as an apprentice Automotive Diesel Mechanic was a triple fuel tanker that screwed its drive shaft crossing a railway line, while not a serious emergency as the Line had just closed, there was still light traffic on the line occasionally.. that the truck also blocked the approach to the runway, was a little more concerting, planes had to land from the opposite end of the runway,

    I cycled this hill about 2months ago on my 4 800km cycling adventure....that road was a bit of a shocker after the piece of flatland before Geraldon....

    to keep engine cool speed about 10kph revs about 1200 gear 1st or 3rd very long hill use to pull triples up bringo
    110ton iron ore plus another 30ton for truck trailers and dollys with over mass permit in to port and quads up the chitchesters ranges at 169ton 2nd gear 8kph and little everist quads full load 180ton 1st gear at 7kph been driving
    road trains since 1981 bringo hill from memory is 3 or 4 ks long chitchesters 10ks long little everist 14ks long

    Those new tieman quads have payload of 45 tons each, add 12 tons for the volvo and 10 tons tare each trailer your 're pushing close to 180 tons

      Yep, a real heavyweight this one. This PBS rated Super Triple fuel tank trailers were built by Tieman Services in Bibra Lake, WA. With a GCM of 168 tonnes.

    I heard a story. The little hairy men, Nyungar call them wudartji, but Mount Magnet area traditional people have a completely different name, well, they would be disturbed by the mining, and would sometimes jump on the trains for a ride, coming into Geraldton.

      The Prime Mover might easily be rated for 250 tonne plus , but that Tanker would have been around 150 tonne . Public Road .

    best sound was the cicadas, but Cummins, powers the world, there are engines as good, the vee Scania being one of em
    when I was with Cummins in Newcastle I rebuilt many of the 855 , the vees made for the road were no good, the 903 was short lived

    Volvo Power..The FH16 is unbeatable..So much power,if you want to pull very heavy loads you need a Volvo. So much torque. It.s much heavier than the truck in front. I drove the FH and ít is a wonderful truck.Maybe the best you can buy.

      Haha, yeah heaps of drivers like them. You'd always have disagreements between the Mack and Kenworth drivers. And the Volvo drivers, with torque power.

    Do they manufacture axles , wheel bearings , brake systems , fifth wheels ECT in Australia or do they all come from the power house a.k.a. Germany. Question from a sad Englander living in a service based economy. Little manufacturing based here anymore 😭😭😭

      Yes, there are companies that manufacture truck drive trains, and axles etc. And specialise in assembley, though yes still import into Australia. And I understand your view, with England, some years ago. with BMC, Leyland, etc.

      Yeah its the speed difference as mentioned, at the bottom of the Greenmount Hill, its from 60kmph, then 70kmph section to 80kmph mostly for both east and westbound with dual carriageway (4lanes). So slowmoving trucks, you can pass them. Heavy oversize is a pain, as you just have to wait patiently behind them. Until they pull over, park up to let backlog trafffic pass by.

      We have the horsepower, the hills and the massive iron ore super quad side tippers hauling into Port Hedland and Geraldton, here in Western Australia. With loads of 175 / 200 tonnes.As one example for other heavy hauls in Australia. Unable to have the 750 at this stage. They can't handle the hot conditions out on the outback highways, roads and mine haul jobs.

      @@koorta-boodjor1522 Apologies. Until you get to Madura pass & Eucla on the Eyre highway in WA. I remember the first time I drove across the country from west to east & after several hundred kilometres of essentially flat land, I saw a sign just before the Madura roadhouse that read "Steep descent. Trucks use low gear". It was at night & I initially thought it was a joke until the road seemingly disappeared & I found myself hurtling down the road that was built into the side of a cliff.

      Thanks for watching. The Western Star on the WA Fuel Supplies tankers would be around 600 hp? With the Volvo FH16 on the Great Southern Fuels 'Super Tanker' is 700hp.

      Tell you, that after overtaking the two tankers. I waited at Mullewa; 73 kms east of here. To take photos of them, And yeah the Volvo wasn't that far behind the Kenworth at all!

      Yeah be thinking, that somehow operation costs etc. Would've been looked at. ie in a 24 hour time frame. How many heavy eastbound trucks would be heading out of Geraldton.

      I reckon, they should run out from Geraldton as two trucks, and once past the hills, hook up as one road train configuration. Much too slow for following traffic, through the hill climbs and heck of wear and tear factor for sure

      Yeah the hills around Bringo and Northern Gully are are a challenge, once past there but, it's easier levels and the trucks move along much quicker.

      A large turning circle most times, or unhook the last trailer, and reverse just two trailers, which is easy for the experienced drivers
