Trams are only available in a very small part in Kolkata. Its mainly kept as heritage. No one uses it as mode of communication except a very few small set of people. BTW you are roaming around hot & humid Kolkata with your family at 2 in the afternoon !!! You really have the passion for travel.

Oh dear, you brought my memories back. 40 odd years back I had a chance to stay in Calcutta for a couple of months. I still remember that excited trip on a tram. It was crowded then. Another was a man pulled rickshaw with a bell in his hand. Though I made a furlong ride, I felt a bit guilty about it. I paid him a 10 rupee note and begged for his apologies. Those Days for 1 rupee one can have a decent meal. 10 paise 5 paise 2 paise were in circulation.
Another sight is the Amby, it is still plying as taxi. Rosh Behari Avenue and Mangoe Lane is still fresh in my memories.
    Enjoy the swinging city.

the government is trying to remove these century old trams and bring modern trams like those seen in European cities but many people are protesting against this as they think it would destroy the history.
Modernisation is very much necessary in Kolkata trams to attract more people and new tram lines should be made between tourist sites.

Been to Calcutta in the 1980's on a research study as a University scholar from Hyderabad. Actually, Howrah. It was such an overwhelming experience with the maddening crowd & traffic as Hyderabad was & still is a smaller city compared to Kolkata! The metro was under construction at that time. The point is we took a ride in the tram which was jampacked. Very affordable to the poorest of the poor, we appreciated the service. It's a great historic city, but has lately been in the news for all the wrong reasons! Your vlog is so very lively... Pl take care and All the best!

What is Kolkata without the early morning (5 in the morning unfortunately) roadside haka Chinese dumplings breakfast at dhapa tireta bazar, besides the Bengali- hilsa fish/eelish fish curry (with mustard) main rice meal. Just make sure your stomach doesn't get upset and the very spiny boany fish doesn't create an eating casualty

Yup , tramps of Calcutta is a small fraction of the British colonial legacy of the old city ..It's the first metropolitan megacity city of India which crossed the 1 million mark in 1910 itself ..Today , due to political nexus the city has lost its old glory & many new cities have overtaken it ..Although , the architecture of the city is still one of the best in the country
Since , you with your family has travelled length & breadth of India for last 2 months ...the only paradise you miss is the North East India ..Visit , Gangtok , Darjeeling , Guwahati , Shillong , Kohima & Aizwal ..as your last leg in India . You'll really enjoy the trip
