    Get a spring-loaded pullback chisel to cut the heads off of the rivets after using the punch to knock the center out of the rivets. Then there's no need to drill. The kits also come with spring-loaded pullback punches too so no hammering a punch. Both are great, especially if you're in a tight area.

    I'm not sure how different the 2005 CLS 500 (featured in video) is from my 2008 CLS 550, but I did not need to lower the window in order to access the bolts, nor did I need to punch out the rivets to remove the brace, but perhaps those steps simply made the job 'easier' (?).

    This is basically the same kind of regulator they put in Fords and very similar to the ones they put in Hyundais (aside from the use of tubes rather than pulleys). They all turn into rat's nests once the reel starts to wear out. But it looks like a much harder job replacing this one; if MB is going to bury and rivet these things into the doors, shouldn't they at least spring for one that has a good chance of lasting the life of the car?

    If you do valve covers on an N62, and they come back leaking again in a short period of time, replace the entire valve cover. It's plastic, they warp, and shrink.
    These days, I just sell the customer the entire job with two new valve covers. Produces a much higher quality repair.

  • @danarbuckle6640
    @danarbuckle6640 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Jonny. I don't know about you but I hate pulling and popping plastic parts. Seems I usually end up breaking something. Any advice for us novices? When something breaks or cracks, do you replace with a new part, try to repair it, or just put it back together? I'm sure you run into cars that come in with broken plastic or broken fasteners. Do you repair them or put it back together being content that it came in that way?

    • @johnnykaraj6115
      @johnnykaraj6115 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They totally changed the design again.
    My regulators on my 01 e320 are riveted in. No brace. The back is a simple design with four rivets. I didn't even punch them out. They drilled out easy.
    The front has 9 rivets, and I should have punched them out first because I ruined a couple of Harbor Freight bits and slightly oblonged the holes.
    Now, I have to do one of the back ones again, and I got a punch this time.
    You cannot use that hand riveter on genuine mercedes' rivets! They are too hard.
    They do not design cars for easy repair but ease of assembly at the factory. I think that is why they went to rivets instead of bolts for a lot of stuff.

      Check the block connector under the drivers seat. There could be a little bit of corrosion on the pins of the connector. Which would cause a bit of high resistance on the wiring. I had this problem with my e39 a few years ago, all I did was pull the connector apart, sprayed the inside of female part of connector. Then put it back together 😁, no more srs light on dash.Got an audi A5 quotro now. Do 400 miles then it needs a top up of a litre of oil. I think its called 'running oil changes' between filter changes🤔🤣. Hopefully having it repaired under warrenty by Audi 🙏🤞. Otherwise I'm looking at a £4000.00 repair bill 😜
