My car. I signed a contract 16 January 2020 the first day you could sign a contract. Picked up my car on December 4th. Now I have almost driven 3000 kilometers. What a wonderful car. Large and heavy SUV with 408 horsepower. 4X4 of course. The seats are perfect for long trips. Will probably get some upgrades through the air that could possibly heat up the battery. A lot will happen in the next few months. I'm very pleased. Finally came your test of the car Bjørn.
Hi Bjørn. It's similar to the other Volvo Cars. The Preheating function is based where you can change the temperature. It's a menue, where you can change the temperature in the front, the back and the preheating function. And you can start it with the Volvo Call App. Greetings from Hamburg and thx for your great work. Frank I Generation - E
Yup, it's pretty smart. Cars with the radar in the front often can't use the radar during snowstorms as the radar gets blocked off. Also having it in the windscreen is better for repairability-purposes in case of a fender-bender.
Volvo's have both. The radar and camera above the mirror are for pedestrian detection, emergency low-speed braking, and traffic sign recognition. Volvo's with radar cruise control still have a radar in the front grill area. In this car, the radar is behind the Volvo badge. www.volvocars.com/uk/support/manuals/xc40-recharge-pure-electric/2020w37/driver-support/camera-and-radar-unit/radar-unit

That's a very handsome vehicle! Volvo is doing such a great job with their designs, including the Polestar 2. There are 3 more EVs that I think will be very popular in 2021. The Mach E, Audi Q4, ID4 AWD and the Ioniq 5 AWD. I may very well pick the Ioniq 5 as our next family car. Love your reviews! Thanks Bjorn!

Thirsty is relative for a 65.000,- Euro car. If you are driving 20.000km a year it doesn't matter of saving 5, 10 or even 20 kWh/100km. If you need a car with savety feeling, because of AWD, good quality, a trailer hitch and a useful tailgate, these arguments are counting more than consumption.

I never close my hood like that ;-) Hold it up 20-30 cm and let go, then it smacks right into place. Then you avoid getting fingerprints on the hood or get dirty.
At least it can make it there within 1 charge, unlike the eTron. I'm also wondering what would the consumption be for other cars in this snowy weathers, like the ID3, Leaf e+, EQC, etc.
Unless you want an actual SUV like this XC40, I can't see why you'd ever go for this electric XC40 over the Polestar 2. In the Netherlands the XC40 STARTS from €59.990, without any of the options that are standard on the Polestar 2. Am I missing something or is this just the SUV-tax?
You would shut the hood with one hand in the center while it is still open a few inches.. push it down swiftly. Like a car door and not drop it like an ICE engine hood. Yeah oh yeah. Could see that too as you were closing it and wondered why you pushed all the way down and latched it and then tried to push it shut with 2 hands on the sides.
400km WLTP range but it used 83% to go 227km.. hmm doesn't sound good. The cold weather is a factor though I guess, still. MKBHD in his latest video says that cars coming out in 2021 with their first 'state of the art' BEV and only having 200 miles, are already behind. I hope they catch up fast.
@@bjornnyland Okay! :-) Then there was only the difference in the weather conditions. May I ask you if you check the tyre pressure before all your tests or you just go with what the car is delivered with? I haven't tried any chargers except at home so I don't know if there is anyone who show the kW on the charger screen? But it feels like an easy thing to show?
Great and informative video as always. When will we have Geilo test with the VW ID.3 (58kwh basic trim and 77kwh model with heat pump)? I'm curious of how they stack up consumption-wise with the rest of the EVs on your list and also between each other(extra weight for the 77kwh model, but heat pump should improve cold weather consumption)
Android Automotive uses wheel speed sensors to keep the arrow on the map moving even when it loses GPS signal. Also it can use the aerials in the car instead of the small phone ones. Though this also applies for regular Android Auto.
So when you calculate the charging speed, what’s the 0.9 that you’re multiplying by? I want to calculate the speed at my local ABB charger but I’m not good at math. But if you can explain the formula it might make it easier for me.
I may be wrong here, would love to be corrected, but I haven't seen a Polestar 2 (and now Volvo themselves) charging above 100kW. Most youtube videos have demonstrated coldgate or just plain slowgate. Also I'm surprised at almost no comments here about this poor charging speed!? 2020/2021 model EVs should be 80kW+ upto 80%
In Canada, we can order the XC40 recharge with a heat pump. Does this one have a heatpump? And how do things like winter tires and cold conditions affect the range?
@@bjornnyland Yes I noticed those and your image on facebook. We have and V90 and I just slam it shut every time, because that peaceful "zen" push just leaves the lock open. In ours it is more common that both remain open or both will shut.
I noticed something, you didnt close the hood correctly. It has 2 locking points, one on the left and one on the right. The left side didnt close correctly, so when you were charging in geilo there was a massive gap.
Incorrect. The gap was there already in the beginning before I even opened the hood. Check the start of the video. Remember that lots of other cars also has panel gaps, not only Tesla. And also, if the hood was not shut properly, don't you think Volvo which has really high focus on safety would not notify me about it? ;)

Most youtube videos have demonstrated coldgate or just plain slowgate. Also I'm surprised at almost no comments here about this poor charging speed!? 2020/2021 model EVs should be 80kW+ upto 80%
interesting... Volvo claims 150 kW
plenty of examples in the 100-130kw range. Björn had 130ish in his live video.
@@XLoaferY Fair enough. Personally I haven't seen any examples but it's promising to know there are some out there.
Ah yes just seen the latest Bjorn vid about this Volvo. Charge speeds not too shabby.
You arrived with 14% but the car estimated 4%? Why is there such a big difference, in those cold conditions? 🤔
Bad estimation.
Do you have a car cleaning routine?
Yes
In Canada, we can order the XC40 recharge with a heat pump. Does this one have a heatpump? And how do things like winter tires and cold conditions affect the range?
most test examples do not have the heat pump
They should have converted an estate.
I agree, I prefer the estates. But in the current market it just wouldn't sell as well as an suv. Hopefully they become more popular again!
2020 car review: It's been forcibly mutated into an EV
2025 car review: It's been forcibly mutated into a fossil car (or more likely a PHEV).
All that effort and still the frunk wast left open? :D
Common issue with Volvo. Check comments further down.
And also, if the hood was not shut properly, don't you think Volvo which has really high focus on safety would not notify me about it? ;)

Nein , nein ,nein hahahaha das ist immer sehr lustig
"Selecting option number nine."
Diesel costs 11.95. I can live with that.
This is a £60k car in Uk and the Tesla 3 performance is £56, no brainer🤷🏻♂️
No brainer indeed. The Volvo, any time.
The Model Y is the Tesla comparison to this. The Y is probably better in every way except interior quality and fit & finish build quality.
220/260 Wh ??? really thirsty!!
That charging sound is horrible. Why is that so loud?
Ask ABB.
