If this song doesn’t hit you harder as you get older, you’re listening to the music and not the words of the song. This gentleman did this great song justice!
It does hit harder the older I get but I think for me it’s because you can hear the pain and despair in the lyrics and realize that Layne Staley and so many other musicians lived it. He was alone and lonely when he passed and was alone and lonely for two weeks before he was even found. It’s just sad. This is an excellent cover.
I like how you’re not trying to do a bad Layne Staley impression and just did this as yourself, while also trying to keep it in a similar spirit as the original. Thank you! Respect!
Whats interesting is Jerry wrote down in a hole about his ex gf… almost didnt bring it to the band because it was a lot slower than the stuff they were doing at the time. Band loved it though and now everyone associates the lyrics with laynes struggles even though jerry wrote the lyrics
As much as I love Layne and have absolutely lived to AiC's original my entire teen/adult life .... I FEEL this dude's pain in it like Layne, unlike most other covers
Layne and AIC should be in the hall of fame. They should've won Grammy awards. We should've had a major motion picture, Layne Staley bio pic. RIP Layne, what a vocalist/soul singer/songwriter. Never forgotten. This was a respectful, quality cover. 👏
They dont need the hall of shame, they are good the way they are. That hall of washed out rockers is over rated anyways. AIC is its own thing. No one sounds like them and never will.
You know why he kills this...................................... He sings like Larry Fleet not Layne Staley and that's very hard, how powerful his voice is to this song.
Nutshell on album Alice In Chains “Jar of Flies”. There is no need to compare. Everything Larry Fleet does is his own. Poignant lyrics expressing deep dark sorrow, isolation standing strong. Not to be taken lightly. Beautiful guitar work. Thank you for this gem in a nutshell. Absolutely perfect.
I’m a music purist and this is the first cover of this song that hasn’t made me cringe. Finally someone did this song some solid justice and I’m not typically a country style fan. Well done
And the originator lives on. Awesome cover. 10 years sober. I was surrounded by people but no one understood the struggle. Pushed me to the depths but with god I fought through. Anyway reading this get up. You are the problem and the solution. The time is now to do something. You got this
You are the problem and solution. That’s cold af but so true man. 6 months sober. It’s not easy for anyone to overcome but the reality is just that, being the problem and the solution.
You can tell that this is a song that Lane Staley lived and wrote from deep within his soul. The depth is hauntingly beautiful and sad at the same time.
I've never heard of Larry Fleet, but I've been an AIC fan since 95. This is my favorite AIC song and one of my favorite songs in general. This really does it justice
Ok who the HELL is this dude? WOW. 😮. Easily one of the best covers of nutshell by FAR. Man. This dude may just convert me to country music. Holy shit 😮
Many have attempted to cover this deep, amazing, relatable, classic AIC tune and ALL have failed..... You sir did your thing and killed it! Layne and all of AIC should be proud of their song making this much noise in Country Music! Hats off to Larry Fleet! Imma fan! NC!

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! One of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you for recreating this classic and keeping Lane Staley and Alice In Chains' music alive!!!
RIP Layne Staley. A voice like no other. Him along with his brilliant guitarist and co-writer Jerry Cantrell created some of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. And when they sang together, their harmonies made you feel how powerful good music can be. Alice in Chains and their mtv unplugged album will always have a place in my heart.
WOW...as a life long Alice In Chains fan you nailed it! This is the first time finding your channel. Totally hit that subscribe button! This wasn't sung from your heart, it came from your soul.
So many covers get it wrong and I get it because the original is literally untouchable but I gotta say I really appreciate this take. It has the honesty of the original and that's what's usually missing
This song got me through drug addiction after the fact. Years later my ears have moved to country music. This brings me to so many places. I feel this now more than I did the original did then.
You nailed it. I would have never thought id hear a cover of that song come so close to perfection. This is on my playlist for sure. Glad it was in my recommended.
Such a gifted talent. He will be a member of The Grand Old Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. I pay he keeps Jesus in his life and keeps singing songs of Faith.
My man played the hell out of this song. Somewhere Layne is smiling seeing that his music made such a huge impact on people and that it still lives on.
I dont comment on youtube, but holy shit, my brother. Truely impressive my. And no better song to showcase those pipes. You killed the guitar. I really enjoy how you are able to replicate that bass line. Iconic cover. 10/10
Damn brother I've heard lane sing this song since I was a kids thank you so much for this cover I'm sure Alice n Chains would be proud to listen to your version
What an amazing voice! I love how modern country is finally spreading out into more complicated lyric ideas and darker vibes. There has to be so much more than pop anything. You got a new fan Larry with this cover.
My uncle passed away in April. He was an avid fisherman. He also loved politics and this country. He would have played this loud and proud in his truck but since he's not here, my dad plays it and fondly remembers his brother. They lived next door to each other all their lives and this brings him comfort.
i just got the full chills neck hair standing when he started humming the chorus he do amazing on the rest i thought another really good nutshell cover then he done the humming and it might be one of the best ive heard since layne
As a long time Alice in chain fan. I thought this was heartfelt when Lane done it on unplugged. But this is a twist leave it to a such talented person to pull this off. Thanks Larry
this is how you cover a song. nutshell is a masterpiece and you did it justice.
Have you seen upchurches version? It’s amazing as well.
That guitar sounds unbelievable
Looks like the PRS SE T40E, beautiful guitar
It's an amazing tone I've been trying to replicate this sound. I think I need better gear
Really bright strings and picking close to the bridge.
Yeah buddy.

Layne’s song, that defines him, is “Down in a hole” very specifically, unplugged! (In my opinion) but it hurts! 💔
Whats interesting is Jerry wrote down in a hole about his ex gf… almost didnt bring it to the band because it was a lot slower than the stuff they were doing at the time.
Band loved it though and now everyone associates the lyrics with laynes struggles even though jerry wrote the lyrics
he may not have been trying to impersonate but gd i could hardly differentiate between the two. awesome cover.
