      I don’t think the books themselves are censured anywhere, but a couple of words have been dropped in more recent editions. I don’t think it’s a big thing. Astrid Lindgren was a down to earth person, and I think she would have been fine with those really minor omissions.

As a person who grew up in the sixties it bewilders me the the youth of today are not up in arms about the disastrous effects of global warming that will diminish their future in many ways. Back then we put an end to the unjustified war in Vietnam by taking it to the streets. Greta's rational is perfect for the times. I hope her efforts are just the start of something bigger where the world realizes our little space ship earth is in need of repair and acts upon the problem. The Thunberg family has writ a book: This is the story of a family led to confront a crisis they had never foreseen. Aged eleven, their eldest daughter has stopped eating and speaking. Alongside diagnoses of autism and selective mutism, her parents slowly become aware of another source for her distress: her imperilled future on a rapidly heating planet.
    Steered by her determination to understand the truth, the family begins to see the deep connections between their own and the planet’s suffering. Against forces that try to silence them, disparaging them for being different, they discover ways to strengthen, heal, and act in the world. And then one day, fifteen-year-old Greta decides to go on strike.

    My daughter introduced me to Greta Thunberg the night before the student strikes, March 14th. I was SO IMPRESSED. I had to substitute teach in a local high school (not my daughter's) on the 15th, and I decided to share the video of Greta addressing the UN Climate Conference, a 3.5 minute video, to a classroom of high school seniors after their class work was finished. Some of the students were uncomfortable with the subject matter, and complained to the principal that I was teaching about climate change. The principal took it to the top and had me fired from the school district, even though I hadn't technically broken any rules! Just for showing the video. Today was the day I was officially fired. I love you Greta.

    Co2 emissions are heavier than air and therefore disperse all around us. When it is cold, Co2 vaporises. A good example of this is when a plane is flying high in a clear blue sky; we will then see a great cloud of vaporised Co2. Where clouds don't rise, but in low pressure areas they can come down as rain or snow, but they don't rise up into the stratosphere. Although methane, from cows, is a potential greenhouse gas, its effect is relatively short-lived. So perhaps the climate change and the global warming that spelled the end of the recognised Ice-Age, over 12,000 years ago, is also what is happening now? When waste plastic should surely be our true concern?

    For those who don't understand what she means when she says nobody is doing anything ...she means ..what has to be done is not being done. I think thats very clear and strange to me that she can be misunderstood so easily. Could there be a reason why people would like to misunderstand such a clear and simple and true message?

    • @rypaleleipa9007
      @rypaleleipa9007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the solution is not doing anything? Striking? While the rest of us study, get a job and probably can make a difference that way. If there's something wrong with it, don't wait for someone else to change it. Do it yourself.

    • @zantecarroll4448
      @zantecarroll4448 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rypäleleipä History tells us that striking has been one of the most powerful weapons the vulnerable have against the powerful. Striking at the this moment in history is 'doing' more than many people have been able to achieve. What purpose is there in misunderstanding her?

    • @rypaleleipa9007
      @rypaleleipa9007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zantecarroll4448 Staying out of school for one day is not striking. You're supposed to keep it going until things change, right? Not every now and then. And the most effective way to stop the polluting is doing it yourself, not whining to other people.
      I study electrical engineering. Second year student at the Lapland vocational college. After that and my military service, I'm studying to be an engineer (UAS). I'm aiming for the electricity generation industry, building nuclear power plants and wind turbines.

      @zantecarroll4448 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rypäleleipä Well done for what you are doing. I think thats important. I think the hard question is what makes change? We only have history to help us . . Obviously there are many factors. We know that for the last three decades the changes that need to made havent been made. We know that the technologies are important but without the political will the funding for the research and development wont be in place and the changes wont be made. As time is such a critical factor i believe Greta Thunbergs strategy to pressure the politicians through the powerful lever of the behavior of the publics children has a greater chance of being effective than spending time we dont have, studying to develop technologies for a future that may not exist. Ofcourse that doesnt mean that studying to develip technology isnt important its just not as powerful a strategy as a fifteen year old school girl striking and clearly speaking truth to power ... at this moment in history.

    • @rypaleleipa9007
      @rypaleleipa9007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zantecarroll4448 But that's not how striking works. As I said, you're supposed to keep it up UNTIL the difference is made. So no, her strategy isn't working.
