5:13 ahaha! You and said father were SO NOT AROUND YET when these tv times existed 😂 *cough my grandma was though cough*
Here are my top two movies. After these two I have a bunch that compete in the top 10 that all could be 3 on any given day.
Jurassic Park was the first movie that I saw in cinema. I was 5 years old (probably for sure too young for it) and my begging to see it pushed my mom and my aunt to give in to take me. They thought I would be too scared and want to leave, and they thought it would be a lesson that I would learn about listening to their age appropriate opinions.
I experienced so many first emotions to that movie, and it cemented a life long love of exploration and dinosaurs. I physically remember feeling the excitement, terror, joy, and laughter. I watched on repeat for years and years.
I remember the hype of Lost World coming out and how much I loved it. I read the Lost World book first as a 8/9 year old in anticipation of the movie, and my life revolved around it. I equally remember the physical feeling of emotions while watching it in cinema.
Those two to me are put together as one, and they hold a pure part of my soul. My children are obsessed with dinosaurs, and my oldest is 5. She is excited to be able to watch it with me as she gets older.
The other movie that gripped me then and still to this day is HOOK. Robin Williams specifically holds a massive spot in my heart and love for art. I remember seeing it at a dollar rerun cinema with my mom shortly after Jurassic Park. I loved Peter Pan and seeing that version inspired me and made me fall in love with the world and story even more.
It made my love of Robin Williams come to life, and it has never left. I watched it with my daughter on her 5th birthday, and we now have HOOK afternoons where we put on the DVD, make some popcorn, and cuddle up to watch it. It is the only movie she will sit through all the way, and she is as obsessed as I was. Hook filled me with so much passion for adventure and imagination. It is the movie that allowed me to feel comfortable in being silly and creative in my own headspace and imagination. That food fight scene fills me with so much joy just thinking about it.
I watch both of these movies at least 2-3 times a year, and getting the DVDs out to watch them still makes me giddy in anticipation.
This comment justifies integrating movies into my content - maybe one of my favorite things I’ve read on the channel! Thank you for sharing it, and peace/joy to you and your family!
@@MortsGarageplease do! Mort’s Theater has a quite the ring to it…
Don’t tempt me…haha
@@MortsGarage thank you for your reply. I wanted to share because this started me down a nostalgia feels, and I called my mom and we chatted for an hour+ about going to the cinema when I was young. Her movie was the 70s king kong, and she had the same reaction that I had to Jurassic Park. Your simple question led us to having a great convo about our past. Thank you for that.
I recently found your channel and I love your style. The video work and editing are fab. I worked in film and photography for years, so it is noticed and appreciated.
I also think your delivery and style would be amazing for videos about film. It would be extremely enjoyable!
@@griner65 That’s amazing! It’s also what I love about art - it’s a non traditional means of facilitating meaning and connection.
And thank you so much - I’d love to have a film dedicated channel if time permitted. I hope to someday.
My top 4 - Back to the Future, Stand by me, Shawshank Redemption and Dreamcatcher. I didn't realise until recently that the last 3 are all Stephen King adaptations.
There’s definitely a theme…
The Wayne’s world reference was prime. Love me some good movie quotes. I also enjoyed how you randomly snuck in your most influential films in this video. Sneaky sneaky
There is ALWAYS room for movies in my world.
@@MortsGaragesomething we can agree on. I love me some good quality movies
Snatch, Rushmore, Dumb and Dumber, Evil Dead 2, Napoleon Dynamite. Great video as always!
Rushmore ❤️❤️❤️
That Bucky O'Hare book is EPIC!!! 🤯Great Video man, Super well done. Top 3: Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, annnnnd.... Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls... for real. I love it so much! 😂
You sir, are the first person I’ve ever met who legitimately loves that film. And for that, I salute you.
The Holy Mountain, Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Oldboy (2003), The Truman Show, Dark City, Shaolin Soccer, Office Space.
I need to see The Holy Mountain. Just not sure if my mind is ready for it. Great picks!
A great video. Thank you for taking all of us on your journey. I loved going to Blockbuster on a Friday night and renting some of those games.
Thank you for watching 😊
That Bucky OHare book threw me off. 1986!! The show came out in 91. Had no idea there was merch out that early for the space hare! 🤯
Enjoying the content. One of my new favorite channels. Thumbs Up from a 90s Sega kid.
So appreciate your kind words :)
Some of my favourite movies🤘
The Crow
The Cell
Airheads
I need to see The Cell, especially after having fallen in love with The Fall
Love the quick historic bits about the availability of the games, very nice small details Mortimer!
Glad you enjoy!
Amazing Video, And Love The Camel Crew Vibes ❤🙌
They’re the swellest fellas in the game
The Rocky series as a whole is my favorite, specifically the first four. The first one with the true underdog story, the second one with the unlikely path to be the champ, the third one with the champ being humbled and forced to return to his roots and rethink himself, then the fourth one pretty much being a pursuit of justice/revenge/closure. I'd follow those up with The Book of Eli and an anime film called Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
I once had a film professor share that seeing Rocky 1 in theaters when it released was one of the most culturally necessary and uplifting moments. I thought that was interesting
You were talking quick in this one 😂 my 3 fav movies are just geeky nostalgia movies. The Karate Kid, the Goonies and Revenge of the Nerds. I love your editing and the extras you always add in rather than just having boring hunting vids.
Thanks Wizball :)
I watched Karate Kid on repeat as a kid. Still love it!
Hell yeah! Porchman with the sweet mario game inside lol ❤😂

Love this channel. Such well produced content and I can live vicariously as someone who has like 3 collectable games. Great work!
Appreciate your comment, Mitch!
Yessss!!! City of gods is my favorite movie. I never hear anyone say that. Good freaken choice.
I need to see it again. SO GOOD
Is that a Dingees like Armageddon Massive, Sundown to Midnight Dingees shirt!?!! 👀
The real ones know :)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou will always be my favorite movie!
“You’re the ‘B Squad’ leader” - Steve Zissou
Mort, I actually bought and still have those PS1 themed drink coasters! I bought them years ago at a local GameStop on clearance for $10 or under. I love them, but don't get why Numskull used the PAL region artworks for the games. Nevertheless they look great in my living room, and in my game room! As for my top 3 movies of all time?
DC's Watchmen (2008 Zack Synder)
What Dreams May Come (Robin Williams. I legit cried my eyes out at the end.)
The Outsiders (based on the book by S.E. Hinton. This is a beautiful coming of age movie for teenagers and a glimpse what life was like in the 50's/60's. ALL STAR CAST!)
Rad!! Didn’t realize how new they were.
I still need to see What Dreams May Come
@@MortsGarage I highly recommend What Dreams May Come!!!! Even though how sad the ending is! That is up there with Dead Poet's Society as my personal favorite Robin Williams movies!!!! Bicentennial Man (which I just saw not long ago) is also very good as well!
"Alas, poor Horatio. I knew him well."
I bring the class.
*buuuuurp!*
Yep, class.
Lol
I love that you talked about movies! I dont know why but I cant get enough of people disccusing movies and games lol. My favorite movie is probally Whiplash or godzilla minus one.
Whiplash absolutely wrecked me. GREAT choice!
Blockbusters was always great fun like when mario tennis was gunna come out me and my older brother called blockbuster to see if they had it and they did so we told them to put it aside for us and me and my brother ran all the way to blockbuster haha it was great getting back home and playing and eventually my brother started working at that same blockbuster !! i miss it !
I miss it too - hard to articulate just how fun it was to go and browse around. It also led to discovering something new when what I wanted wasn’t available.
Camel Crew!! 😂 As always such a fun day of game hunting here and fantastic finds too. A classic video filled with Mort’s charm and humor. 3 films for me: 1) Tombstone 2) The Goonies 3) The Revenant. What was the song at the 15:25 mark?
Great choices! Music is Dauba by Ebo Krdum
A complete wii set is quite the goal. Without looking it up, isn't it like around 1100 games?
Update i had to look it up... google says over 2,500 I wonder if that was inlcuding outside the US
I think he just wants US games. But either way - it is indeed quite the goal
Love the vid mort
Sure is hard to narrow down my top 3 most influential films. I love movies.
1) Good fellas-agree with you there it is a great movie, must have watched it a hundred times. Love Martin Scorse as a director.
2) one flew over the cuckoo's nest. This film is amazing, for characters and story your invested throughout. Also there was some amazing performances by new actors such as Bradford Claude Dourif who played Billy, the part where he is dragged away gets me everytime especially everyone's reactions. There's so many great performances (obviously Jack Nicholson as well) that film is so amazing.
3) Withnail and I - a film that is raw and funny. The fact that the actor played Danny twice from this and in Wayne's world 2 says it all. He was an insane character. Then not forgetting the two main actors Richard e grand (who had rarely been drunk before and was allergic) played the most perfect drunk ever and Paul mcgan the most brilliant narrator etc.
4) Resevour dogs (great lines! Fantastic dialogue, great plot, great characters. I love a lot of Tarrantinino movies too.
I could probably add more as films are great you can loose yourself in their worlds and it's all about the story and the characters.
Lol I ended up doing four there's def more!
I need to see Withnail and I as well as Reservoir Dogs. I’m mixed in Tarantino. He doesn’t always work for me. Sometimes too cartoonish, but I get why he’s beloved and think that’s rad
People don't understand that games actually use to cost more if you take into account inflation. I did a video a long time ago. I see a flyer from Canada in the 90s where if I remember right, SNES games were selling for around $100!
100%!
Although, Canadian money around then was usually 80% more than US money. So, $100 in Canadian back then was likely the equivalent of $60 or $70 or so US. Still, inflation means that $60-$70 in the 90’s is double that in today’s US dollars.

Check it…this is back in 1999 or so

Top 3 all time. Starship troopers, constantine, and jurassic park
Jurassic Park is a perfect movie!
This is the list ❤
Just like the turtles Bucky 0'Hare was a comic before he got turned into a (failed) cartoon, videogame, toy hero
Goodfellas is my comfort movie. Heck yeah
I am certain we are related somehow!
I think many people forget the prices of video games back then. Prices kinda went down in theory considering the time and cost of living
Not just a theory, it’s the truth. However, there’s also never been a bigger market for them.
4 of my favourite/ influential films: Amelie, The Hudsucker Proxy, Back to the Future and Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Hudsucker is SO GOOD. I referenced that in the Razor Freestyle cutaway ;)
I still have a couple N64 games with the blockbuster sticker on it 😂😅
Yes!!
we rented xbox360 generation from blockbuster as well.
Top 3 Films For Us:
1.) Alien
2 ) The Matrix
3.) Space Jam
Alien is soooooo good. I prefer it vastly over Aliens
I loved that Razor game for the ps1, never knew they had a 64 release of it
It’s a tough one to find out there :)
I love your editing so much Mort!!!!
Thanks Jesee!!
Very interesting to learn about these Blockbuster exclusives, but it would have been nice to see some in game footage while you talk about them.
Went back and forth about this. I’ll include more footage going forward though. Thanks for your comment!
I appreciate you taking the constructive criticism into account. I really enjoyed your small film review segments in this video by the way, great job!
Don’t worry. I’m that kinda collector too. I wouldn’t open the figures up either. Nice score on those!
Woah! Bucky O Hare! I never see that stuff! Oh Soul Calibur! Fantastic. I just picked up some displays for that! Very cool to see.

You understand me ❤️
This topic about prices keeps coming up and as a kid from the 80's and 90's I swear I do not remember any game being above $49.99 I recently asked my parents about ti and neither of them recall anything being above $49.99 either. I see the ads that are put in the videos, and it makes me wonder sometimes if it was a regional thing. I lived in the North (Ohio) then we moved down South (Texas) and I cannot recall anything over $49.99.
I remember being at WalMart and Maximum Carnage was $69.99 which was weird to me because by that time, the N64 had already come out. I bought a lot of games on clearance at Target for $19.99 or less back then.
Razor Freestyle Scooter also came out on GBC and Dreamcast in addition to the other 2 consoles.
Yes it did!
(Pauses vid)
Mort:
Your new tagline should be “Let me tell you what happens next…(long awkward pause)…we keep game hunting.” Use it often especially in transitions or at the end of vids. It’s perfect. I’d buy Morts Garage merch with that tagline on it. PS where’s the Morts Garage merch? Maybe this is it.
(Ok. Back to watching the episode…)

@@MortsGarage from one major Fugazi fan to another…you’re most welcome. I saw u mention them in your last video. I saw Fugazi live in SF for my 17th birthday in 1996. I was front row and knew every song. Probably the best bday gift ever from my best friend at the time. It was a surprise until we arrived and I saw the Fugazi banner on stage. Unbelievable show. Still my favorite band to this day. Makes me happy to know us Fugazi fans are still remembering them. Music that good should be shared. I’ll have to listen to the band you saw live and compared them to. 🤘😝🤘
While each of their albums has their own charms, Red Medicine was what sealed the deal.

@@MortsGarage awe man dang! Also it was cool seeing you on Pickin preacher show enjoyed the stuff yall was talking about.
My top three movies are the Jerk, Brain Candy, and Blues Brothers. I’m a simple man.
I need to see The Jerk again
I don’t have the patience for films, but I think my favorite is Memento. I’m more a reader than a watcher (although I never miss an episode of Mort’s Garage).
And for that, I am eternally grateful. You might say - I'll never forget it.
For me in terms of limited print games I usually find games I'd want to play at release, but wait a bit to see if a physical copy comes along & pick that up as I prefer the experience of looking at a shelf & grabbing my game from it. There's even a few games I've picked up digitally at release & then purchased the physical copy for later like Sifu. Ultimately I don't grab games just because they're limited physical runs, but it can occasionally get me to pick up games I otherwise wouldn't simply because I know if it's physical it won't get lost in the shuffle of a digital menu on screen.
That sems like a reasonable approach!
@@MortsGarage it would be, except I buy games like I don't have a job, wife or dog to compete with for my time lol.
Wow that Bucky book was written by Larry Hama who is sort of the godfather of GI Joe stories and drawn by Michael Golden the co-creator of Rogue from the X-Men. I did not know they co-created Bucky O Hare
Nor did I! Thanks for the knowledge :)

So weird bringing something up in a stream a few days ago, you saying "I should do a video on that topic" then seeing it just a few days later
Haha - when you brought it up I was thinking, “I have some good news my man”
Hey funny thing according to price charting. That Mario 3d land case. If you have the white case version complete with game and inserts. It's worth $100.00 dollars. The white case was the original 1st release then was later released in a red case. Just going by price charting info. So that white case has value. Lol actually says white case version on price charting if u look it up.
That’s amazing haha - thanks for the heads up!
yeah it's a variant I guess. Your supposed to see the red case more. Idk how much if you can really get $100. For the white case. If it was that way. Then everyone would take the red case version and switch to the white case. But says on there white case complete price. $100. Went to GameStop and said can I see the game. They both had white and red cases. Same price. Lol. So idk. I wouldn't pay $100 for a white case. Lol if I had the red I would switch to white and try to sell it. Lol but I guess first releases were white then went to red. So not that many white cases. But all 3ds games were white. To me red should be more. Just saying look at price charting. Lol
Do you think GameStop will be the newer generations blockbuster?
Not that I think any specific exclusive game stop game will be rare, but as a place of culture and nerdiness I definitely think Game Stop could leave the same cultural impact once it closes down.
I definitely think it will be!
It's a great comparison. They're both relics of an era in time. Gone though are the days of Gamestops everywhere and that being the hype place to pre-order games. They have to pivot to stay alive, but I'll miss it.
@@MortsGarage I completely agree that the times have changed. I've been keeping my ear to the ground about Game Stops stock and business health. I definitely want to stop at my local one one last before it closes, relive some memories, and make some offers on some marketing material and other items so I have something to remember it by. So many good memories.
The austin powers movies are my favorite of all time! Ive seen them each like 30+ times at this point and they never get old. Another movie thats really up there for me is dirty harry i love that movie. And also i love pokemon so i love a lot of those theres like 26 pokemon movies. My favorite of them is giratina and the sky warrior
This is an amazingly fun and eclectic list!
@@MortsGarage thanks!
Bucky O'Hare was a comic book before it was a game. Maybe the hardcover you found is a reprint of those issues?
Continuing my comparison of video game and comic book collectors; I think LE video games are like the plague of variant die-cut, glow in the dark, hologram covers that was on every comic book in the 90s. The Incredibles covered this, when everything is special nothing is special.
I just love how insightful that film was - and that line is seared into my memory of it
It doesn't look like a reprint, and it is dated 1980-something, but maybe I'm wrong.
Braveheart, 300, American me and full metal jacket
I haven’t seen American Me before. Looks interesting
Top 3 movies : City of God, Requiem for a Dream & Elite Squad. And why the question about the camel crew checking the wii consoles at your garage, Are you implying that they stole some of the games ?? Definitely not cool if they did or even implying that they did :(

Such a great system!
i got my beastwars transformers at bookmans in mesa for about $13 near cib.just missing the cardboard insert to hold the game, the manual, and 1 insert. box is still in fairly good shape and the game isnt like most you see on ebay with the blockbuster sticker everywhere.lable is in great shape despite the blockbuster sticker on it and the back of teh game is missing the sticker so i got lucky there. as it is overall....if i were to sell it i wouldnt let it go for less than $2500 and since i can find the missing inserts on ebay...its worth it. finding the actual manual however not so much as someone wants $500 or more for it on ebay and there is no way of knowing if its a legit copy or a reprinted one
