I've known Mort for a good couple of years now. A while back he invited me over for a friends & family gathering and a handful of us started to share stories about what games are the most important to us he divulged this story about Banjo, just as powerful then as now. Right after he then asked me, I went into a long story as to why Secret of Mana meant so much to me. He disappeared momentarily and came back with an original Secret of Mana box and manual as a gift to me, knowing I didn't own one. Now every time I look at the game on my shelf this game not only reminds me of a fairly tumultuous childhood but of a genuine moment of absolute kindness. It's a blessing. Keep it up, Mort. Some of the best videos on TH-cam exist on your channel 👏
I just lost my husband his favorite games were gears of war sniper and call of duty not over the grief and everytime I see theese games it hits me as a memory of him. The memory of him playing these games will always be remembered. God Bless your mom . I really enjoy your videos .

Mort, this is hands down the best video you have done to date, in my opinion. The humanity you share is amazing. The emotional connection we have to our "collections" is not easily understood by those outside of any type of hobby. It is about the memories and the emotional connection we create and associate with games, toys, music, etc. Thank you for being artistic and willing to take chances to share the human experience.
Thanks for sharing this personal story Mort. I agree with your assessment about retro game collectors and I do think that many of us are trying to resurrect or hold on to some part of ourselves that we feel is being lost. When I remember playing N64 in the evenings in 1997-1999, what I remember is a feeling of safety. I live in China now and when I return home, the house is still there, but the feeling has changed. I can return to my basement, but something is different because so much time has passed. When I watch game hunting videos or when I think about buying some of those old games that I either used to have or never had but always loved, it makes me feel like I am still that kid in my basement on a Tuesday evening playing Goldeneye again. I think we all struggle with losing ourselves a bit in this world and the simplicity of our childhood playing games brings us some sort of solace. Keep making videos brother.

Mort Sir, awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. The comment about “not just buying games but buying emotions “, totally hits home. My collection has grown because of all the games I remember playing as a kid and wanting to experience those moments again. The game that stands out above the rest, is the LOZ: Ocarina of Time Collectors Edition. As a child my mother and father got a divorce and living with a single mother, there wasn’t much extra money for games. As a teen I got a summer job and bought my own N64 and would rent games from time to time. One day I got letter from Nintendo to order the collectors edition of the LOZ: Ocarina of Time. I asked my mom if she could order it and to my surprise she said she would. I remember the day I received the game and the strategy guide. That games as great as it is has a special place in my heart and one I plan on buying CIB when I go to the SoCal Gaming Expo in June. I hope I find it. It would mean a lot to find it there.
Mort, thanks to you and your mom for sharing. The N64 is very special to me since it's one of the only things my dad and I shared interest with as I was growing up. He passed away about 18 months ago. I now have the N64 and games we used to play, one of which was Rugrats' Scavenger Hunt. It was a rainy day, no work or school, and we used to have a twin mattress that we would drag it out on days like that to sit on in the living room and have snacks and play games all day. That particular day we decided to give Rugrats a shot and it was... comically bad, to say the least. We never played it again, but I keep it as a reminder of that nugget of a memory.
Thank you for sharing! Your videos are next level, and the quality is way higher than what most would expect from TH-cam. It feels like I turned on the TV and found a new documentary series or something from an independent film show. Very fine work! I look forward to the next one!
One week ago, literally to the hour that I am writing this comment, I was about to continue playing through the Super Mario RPG remake (which the original happens to be my favorite game of all time). I turned my Switch on, but out of the blue I get a phone call from my brother. My father had been in a car accident. It was not a good accident, his F150 flipped over and was basically totaled. Luckily, he managed to walk away without any major injuries and everyone at the hospital (went out of precaution) was amazed at his condition. He (and everyone else in our family) is very fortunate, he firmly believes that his grandmother is an angel continuing to watch over him. This video hit me in a crazy relatable way. Now not only will I remember the video game I was about to play as the gem as it is, but along with the other very significant memories that I will always keep with me. I'm very glad your mother is still not only alive, but cognitive enough to do what she's been able to do. Nothing short of a miracle. She deserves every bit of recognition. Thank you for this. Keep up the fantastic work, sir.
You are videos are outstanding. Such heartfelt stories. Amazing editing. Just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago, but man, I've enjoyed every video.
I had to pause just to come down here and say how exquisite these vids are, sir. Every aspect of your stuff is inspiring. The narrative, the shots, the editing, the absolute joyful sense of community it exudes! Beautiful as always, Mort. Also, Knocked Loose? Hell yes. Saw them a few years ago opening for Gojira and they blew the house down. Double also, I am an unapologetic lover of XIII…
I love watching you & this channel grow. I love that there is a meaning and thought provoking narrative a long with why the channel is here, collecting what we love. It warms the heart to see a Mother and Son with so much love for each other. Great vid my friend.
I feel like this video is the epitamy of why we all come to this channel. Taking it to the next level Mort. That opening had me in shambles. Thank you for sharing your story.
so glad to hear that your mom is still here! unfortunately my mother passed away last year, may 31st at 6:40pm to be exact, after an almost 3yr battle with lung cancer. i am 42 yrs old and have been married for almost 19yrs and have 2 amazing sons ages 18 and 13. and man do i miss my mom. i just started my collecting journey within the last 2yrs or so, and while i don’t have a specific single game memory like you have with banjo kazooie, i think collecting games/toys/misc from my childhood was a way to go back to a time when everything was “ok”. mom was alive and wasn’t sick. dad wasn’t sick. my brother and i still had a relationship. now don’t get me wrong, i love my wife and boys, but man i miss those “good ol’ days”. awesome video as always. more than just a game hunting video. honored to continue to be a patron!
your mother is a strong person!!! Seems she had done things after the accident that she wanted to do and pulled through. I hope she enjoys all her moments and life. She indeed has a great family surrounding her. I am so sorry that the accident did happen. It should not have as the driver was speeding. But it can happen to anyone, even good people speed sometimes and do care about others, but there are moments when things are done that should not and then sometimes thoese actions affect others. That is then a very upsetting moment of lifetime of anyone involved. It does not only affect the injured one, it affects all people around you like family and friends.
This is best episode I've ever watched on TH-cam, It had all the things i love about your channel and then on top of that the story was just amazingly told, Thank you for sharing such an heartwarming story with us and best wishes to your family from across the pond here in England 🥰
10/10 as always Mort! I wish you continued luck on trying to find the manual! Also, your mom is a total badass for going through that and still being the kind person we saw in this video. God bless you and your family.
An absolute amazing episode, I'm so glad I found your page, your videos are unique and bringing a smile, and maybe some misty eyes to my face. Thank you Mort, thank you very much.
mort brother you are 100% correct. we grew up so poor not even having heat or air in our house and constantly moving every year as well as electricity constantly being shut off. one christmas mom had saved enough money to buy us the snes jr with mario and yoshi on the box. fast forward 30years and after loosing mom to a recent heart attack, i being the oldest stepped up and took care of all the estate for my surviving family. in doing so i never really had the time to greive. 3 years have gone by and my vintage toy story collection and hopefully soon to score the snes jr in box at a decent deal completely transports my back to being 10 years old(38 now) that christmas morning!we were poor but had it all because our family was together. thanks for your story telling and being relatable in these videos. in essence makeing all of use collectors a family. blessings🙏🏼❤️🔥
Thank you for sharing your Mom's story. I can relate to wanting the same thing at the swap. You could pull any record from my collection and I can tell you how old I was when I first heard it, what important things were going on in my life at that time, and I could tell you where I got the record or who gave it to me. Another wonderful video my dude, we need to go record hunting there one day.
I'm gonna be at SEGE again this year. If I don't see you before then, I insist part of the trip is do some record store visits. Thanks for your kindness and support, as ever.
Dude. Such an incredible, devasting story. I'm sorry to hear this. I've talked about on my channel how my parents divorce, their alcoholism, and a feeling of abandonment when my father moved away shifted my life at a young age and really pushed me more and more into gaming. It allowed me to escape from the harsh realty I was facing and mask the pain. Now I use therapy and talking about my feelings to try and heal my inner child. Its so great to see you progressing on your N64 journey. Love your channel Mort.
What a heavy experience - but so glad therapy has been a part of your journey. As we heal and we see the role these things played, our lives really do change. Stay on the road to thriving amigo.
Normally, I just watch on the TV. But Mort, you really have opened my eyes for one of the reasons I collect, buy, and sell. I love this community so much. It's unreal how close I feel to everyone in this community. There are so many similar stories, yet so many different experiences. This is beautiful, and this is my life just as it's yours. Everyone's welcome, and everyone's loved. I transitioned from drugs and addiction into this, and I've never felt a better community and support until I've actually dove into something I genuinely loved instead of something that felt like a necessary burden. Such a beautiful and inspiring video mort. Keep doing what you're doing.
Just wanted to drop a comment and tell you this is one of the best videos I've watched on TH-cam in a long time. For the past couple of years I have been rebuying games and toys from my childhood for the memories. The memories and emotions they bring back exceed any monetary value that they could ever have. I couldn't agree with you more and thank you for sharing.
Super powerful video Mort. As always, the swap meet looks awesome and I really enjoyed your conversation with your mom at the end. Thank you for sharing this story. Great video!
Thanks for sharing Mort and kudos to your mom for her perseverance and of course the support of her family to get through what must have been the greatest obstacle your family has collectively ever shared. We absolutely collect these games to preserve our memories. The good ones and the bad ones. They all count and shape us for who we are
My grandpa passed many years back but a super special memory I will always have was the only game he ever played was Driver on ps1. You are correct lots of memories about different games and their experiences and their connections to life! Thanks, blessings to all and retro for life.
Awesome! I love seeing videos like this with a story. As a collector every time I hold a cart I get that feeling and, it brings a smile to my face. I know I say it a lot but great video. Thank you Mort. 😁
Thank you for sharing God bless. My sister was also in a terrible car accident that rendered her unable to walk. Even though her life has been incredibly difficult I am very proud her. It not only affects the person but also the people around them. Our lives changed drastically after her accident and video games was one of the mediums I used to to cope.
This was a wild ride: thanks for taking us all along. I can so appreciate and relate to the perspective on collecting - this one totally gave ALL the feels.
Much love and respect to your mother. Such an incredible woman. 55 broken bones WOW. Your mother is beautiful and thank you very much for sharing your story.
The moral of the story is that we do pay too much for our memories. But, it's all worth it in the end. And thank you Mama Mort for sharing your story 😊
Random internet person says, "hi. Morts mum!" As a person who has chronic cluster headaches from being in a car hit in a head on collision by a drunk driver, I can tell you, I hated telling my story for years after. Not as painful as the migraines and cluster headaches, but still. I love this video. Thanks, mort. And more thanks to Mom of Mort, you did a good job on that one.
Wow, Mort. I’m so sorry you and your family had to suffer through such a tragedy. Lost my mom about 2 years ago. Stay strong, keep up the content, and thank you!!
I’m so glad there was a happy ending for your mum! You’re very correct about leaning into past experiences and memories, it’s a powerful tug on the heart strings that sadly some people are exploiting for financial gain. The world is a crazy place nowadays, life is hard. It’s no wonder I catch myself playing Pokémon Blue at times, yearning to be that blissfully content 9 year old again.
Aw, your mom awesome! Love her setting boundaries.😁 She’s for real a living miracle. It’s so true a lot of games I love is not because of the game play. It’s the memories or the emotions attached to them. I will always love Goof Troop on the SNES because me and my little bro would spend hours tossing pots at each other in that game and we would laugh and laugh. Then Pokémon FireRed will always hold a special place in my heart because I played it for 2 weeks straight when my son, Silas, was in the hospital with sepsis. Silas played Lego City Undercover on the Wii U they brought into the hospital room and I had my trusty DS lite. I can’t look at that game without thinking of that season of our life. Thanks for sharing with us, man. You really know how to tell a story. Great video!
You’re a great filmmaker! These are really well put together. Also, looks like you guys have a really cool community going around gaming. It can be hard to find other people to feel comfortable expressing your nerdiness around as an adult.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing this. Love how you put everything together and included your deeply personal experience, it touches home. Keep up the fantastic content and all the best wishes to your mother. Also, I felt as if you were staring me down at a certain point. Thanks for shining a light on the progenitor of... All Hail Lord Sluggo! 🤣
Strong memories of playing Sonic 2 compulsively after my parents split in 1993 lol. When I hear the music from that game it always takes me back to that surreal time.
Great Video. I chalk my retro collecting up to acquiring all the things I never had as a kid and of course nostalgia and preservation of the glorious 80s-90s generation of culture.
Great vid dude. Recently started scooping up some old ps2 era games I have a lot of happy memories of. My wallet hurts a little, but getting to have a physical representation of those memories for the rest of my life is so worth it.
@@MortsGarage Shadow Hearts Covenant, Grandia 2 and 3, the .hack quadrilogy, Radiata Stories, and some other titles. I've always been a big JRPG fan so I might end up seeking out the whole JRPG library for it eventually :D
Who would have thought a Dog helped me know I’m addicted to retro games 😂 Talk about Gamers best friend! Fantastic Video, I love your style and storytelling to the hunting genre. The ending hit me hard. The main reason video game collecting is such a big part of my life is because of the memories I made with them as a kid but also helped protect childhood me when no one else could.
This was an amazing, and such a compelling video. Bless you MortMom, you are such a strong and incredible person. Bravo on all the success and goals you've achieved, It is such a hard thing to do and the challenges you had to overcome just to go and do that is just awe-inspiring. Truly goes to show the strength every person has in them. Such a great way to end off the video. Thank you for all you do Mort, and may you and your entire family be happy, healthy and blessed.
This one is up there with some of your best work Mort. Really great video man. I agree with your “buying emotions” assessment. I don’t always buy based on nostalgia, but I recently picked up a couple of janky PS1 games that I played a ton of back in high school. They cost too much and don’t hold up *at all*, but being that I haven’t played them since then, the massive nostalgia hit was so worth it… Also, watching two middle aged men gleefully fumble around with a couple transformers toys brings me joy. Edit: sorry I forgot to mention, thank you for sharing your moms story, glad she was able to make it out of that 🙏
@@MortsGarage Tenchu 2, Fighting Force, Pro Skater 1 and payed up pretty good for Silent Hill… 😬 I realize that all these games are pretty much considered classics at this point, but they really don’t hold up all that well today imo lol But I’ve been feeling a ton of nostalgia for that era of gaming in my life recently, so ultimately it was worth it. Even if it was just for that initial rush of memories playing those games on a small CRT in my bedroom of my parents house back in the day. Edit: already know I’m going to catch heat for calling those games janky lol
Such a touching and well put together video that I'm sure resonates with many of us:) Thanks for sharing and Godbless Mamma Dukes as well as your family 🙏
Thanks for sharing this emotional story. And thank your Mom too. I do agree with you. Most of the time I'm seeking out games that I have nostaglia with and it immediately brings back emotions of when I was a kid. Some are games from back in the day that I wished I owned. And some are ones that I used to own and stupidly sold them or traded them in at my local Graywhale or Game Stop. Are you familiar with Graywhale Entertainment Exchange? I think it's a Utah-only shop.
Good afternoon mort. I hope you and your family are doing well. I'm looking forward to watching this video. My best to you and the entire squad from Vermont.🙏👍🕹🎮🤓
The beginning of your video hit me very hard. On October 24th,1994,my mom and I were hit by a cement truck near a local farm. Thankful for every day I can open my eyes and my feet touch the floor. Sending prayers.
The Pokémon vhs is legit. It’s from the gold and silver era which is super uncommon. That’s the second generation of Pokémon so still quite early. Also I looked up psychic surprise and I nearly cried cos it has an episode in it that is so freaking sad called bye bye butterfree. That’s from the first generation of Pokémon. Super fun if you just want something wacky to pop in and watch
Lol 😂dude ur mom is a Gem 💎 Also Mort you’re such a good dude! Thanks for the video reminding me of… well… memories. I remember renting w a buddy Earthworm Jim on SNES. Lots of laughs, rough housing and good times “raging” at that game and then SNL in the 90’s! And just like you said in the video now every time I even SEE a picture of that game I’m IMMEDIATELY transported to those Saturday nights in my 6th grade year. Wild!! 😎☀️
@@MortsGarage completely! I got tons more but that was one that comes to mind. The other one was anytime I see someone talk about the Wii I can’t help but remember braving the cold and eating semi warm Ramen and later doing a del taco run for my one time friends in line at a BestBuy for the release of the Wii in November!! 😍😍🥰 I’m pretty sure I was the 9th person in line. Such a fun experience!! 😊😊
i love this video because it really got to me everything you said perfectly describes how i feel about video games i legit teared up these games i collect and play aren't just things they are memories a way to escape reality for a lil while when i play my super Nintendo I'm always taken back to a time when i would sit next to my mom and watch her play always jumping with excitement when she would complete a level in super Mario world or get really far in super ghouls and ghost i love this video and mort please keep em coming your a real true beautiful human being 🤎
You’re the second person to mention this, had no idea who they were lol. Gonna go check it out. I get my music from a couple of paid sources and it looks like they do as well!
that was a heart warming video. Bless Momma-Mort !!! put her in more videos :) and yep, it's not about the games, it's the memories and emotions. like when I look around my toy room at Batman's and tmnt and Aliens, Predator etc. , It's all about the feeling you get when you're looking at it. and that's what nerd life is all about. I believe happy emotions rewire the brain to where it gives it longevity. never change!
Yes - which then speaks to healing. Does there come a point when we heal that we are ready to move on from the collecting behaviors? Very curious to learn more.
Grew up in SoCal, its the swap meet capitol of the world for sure, here in Texas, its just some flea markets that don’t ever have cool cheep stuff, I go PAWN SHOPPING, there are literally hundreds of them, I find all kinds of cool stuff, prices are negotiable.

What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it ❤️
Your mom is a legend. Thanks for reminding me to remember! ❤
Nothing but love :)
Touching episode. Glad she made it. You seem like an awesome son. Good to see.
🤘😊
Thank you for sharing! Your videos are next level, and the quality is way higher than what most would expect from TH-cam. It feels like I turned on the TV and found a new documentary series or something from an independent film show. Very fine work! I look forward to the next one!
That means so much - thank you!
So happy to know he is well, all things considered! Thanks for your kind words about my Mom, she is happy to read them!
@@MortsGarage Thank you for the well wishes too
You are videos are outstanding. Such heartfelt stories. Amazing editing.
Just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago, but man, I've enjoyed every video.
Thanks Daniel - I appreciate you taking the time to say this!
Great minds thinking alike I see re music and games :) I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and appreciate your comment 🤘
I love watching you & this channel grow. I love that there is a meaning and thought provoking narrative a long with why the channel is here, collecting what we love. It warms the heart to see a Mother and Son with so much love for each other. Great vid my friend.
Cheers 😊
A mothers love & a son's love for his mother was felt through this video. Great video my friend.
Cheers Manny :)
I feel like this video is the epitamy of why we all come to this channel. Taking it to the next level Mort. That opening had me in shambles. Thank you for sharing your story.
Appreciate you 👊
so glad to hear that your mom is still here! unfortunately my mother passed away last year, may 31st at 6:40pm to be exact, after an almost 3yr battle with lung cancer. i am 42 yrs old and have been married for almost 19yrs and have 2 amazing sons ages 18 and 13.
and man do i miss my mom.
i just started my collecting journey within the last 2yrs or so, and while i don’t have a specific single game memory like you have with banjo kazooie, i think collecting games/toys/misc from my childhood was a way to go back to a time when everything was “ok”. mom was alive and wasn’t sick. dad wasn’t sick. my brother and i still had a relationship. now don’t get me wrong, i love my wife and boys, but man i miss those “good ol’ days”.
awesome video as always. more than just a game hunting video. honored to continue to be a patron!
Comfort and peace to you for your loss.
And thank you for supporting the channel - it means so much!
your mother is a strong person!!!
This is best episode I've ever watched on TH-cam, It had all the things i love about your channel and then on top of that the story was just amazingly told,
Thank you for sharing such an heartwarming story with us and best wishes to your family from across the pond here in England 🥰
How kind of you to say - thank you!
10/10 as always Mort! I wish you continued luck on trying to find the manual! Also, your mom is a total badass for going through that and still being the kind person we saw in this video. God bless you and your family.
Cheers - and thank you for watching :)
An absolute amazing episode, I'm so glad I found your page, your videos are unique and bringing a smile, and maybe some misty eyes to my face. Thank you Mort, thank you very much.
Im glad you’re here! Thanks for watching 😊
mort brother you are 100% correct. we grew up so poor not even having heat or air in our house and constantly moving every year as well as electricity constantly being shut off. one christmas mom had saved enough money to buy us the snes jr with mario and yoshi on the box. fast forward 30years and after loosing mom to a recent heart attack, i being the oldest stepped up and took care of all the estate for my surviving family. in doing so i never really had the time to greive.

Such an incredible story and journey! Thank you for sharing this personal moment in time with everyone ❤
Thanks team :) Appreciate you both as always
Awesome Video MORT!! Very Touching and made me think of my family a lot today 😀😀
So glad to read this :)
Thank you for your generous comment - and keep at it with the sobriety!
Thanks for watching, I’m glad it connected with you!
Super powerful video Mort. As always, the swap meet looks awesome and I really enjoyed your conversation with your mom at the end. Thank you for sharing this story. Great video!
Thanks as ever for your support!
Thanks for sharing Mort and kudos to your mom for her perseverance and of course the support of her family to get through what must have been the greatest obstacle your family has collectively ever shared.
We absolutely collect these games to preserve our memories. The good ones and the bad ones. They all count and shape us for who we are
Indeed - trying to figure out the line of when this is good for us vs holds us back. Appreciate your support as ever!
My grandpa passed many years back but a super special memory I will always have was the only game he ever played was Driver on ps1. You are correct lots of memories about different games and their experiences and their connections to life! Thanks, blessings to all and retro for life.
What a fun memory - peace to you and your family!
Awesome! I love seeing videos like this with a story. As a collector every time I hold a cart I get that feeling and, it brings a smile to my face. I know I say it a lot but great video. Thank you Mort. 😁
Thank you for watching!!
Great video Mort, thank you for sharing this very personal story. I haven't played N64 Banjo-Kazooie yet so I will have to give it a try :)
Play it on the 360 - but I still love it as a game experience to this day. Appreciate you!
Thank you for the Jem and the Holograms comics! 😊
Anything for you my friend!
Awesome video Mort! Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. And the manual fund keeps chugging along. Let's go! Take care my dude. 👍
Cheers to you, Chewy
Thank you for sharing God bless. My sister was also in a terrible car accident that rendered her unable to walk. Even though her life has been incredibly difficult I am very proud her. It not only affects the person but also the people around them. Our lives changed drastically after her accident and video games was one of the mediums I used to to cope.
That sounds awful. Peace and comfort to her and your family as she recovers.
This was a wild ride: thanks for taking us all along. I can so appreciate and relate to the perspective on collecting - this one totally gave ALL the feels.
Appreciate you my man! How do we get you to come to the states? California game hunting calls your name 😎
I love how Mort found his own style. No one makes videos quite like him.

My new favorite channel, not just for retro games but all things in life. Your channel means a lot to me and thank you for the work you do.
How kind - thank you for being here!
@@MortsGarage Thank you!

Thank you for watching!
Random internet person says, "hi. Morts mum!"
As a person who has chronic cluster headaches from being in a car hit in a head on collision by a drunk driver, I can tell you, I hated telling my story for years after. Not as painful as the migraines and cluster headaches, but still. I love this video. Thanks, mort. And more thanks to Mom of Mort, you did a good job on that one.
I can't imagine the chronic headache life. Peace to you, and thanks for watching.
Wow, Mort. I’m so sorry you and your family had to suffer through such a tragedy. Lost my mom about 2 years ago. Stay strong, keep up the content, and thank you!!
Peace and comfort to you and yours.
I love Heavy Metal. I remember watching it on one of the pay channels after my parents went to bed when I was younger.
Holy shit man that started off....rough. bless you and your family
Watch the end :)
We are grateful each day she made it :)
Amazing what you guys are carrying as well. Peace and health to you and your family!
You’re a great filmmaker! These are really well put together. Also, looks like you guys have a really cool community going around gaming. It can be hard to find other people to feel comfortable expressing your nerdiness around as an adult.
It can - but we are all having a ton of fun :)
Also, I appreciate your kind words about the videos!
Mort,
Your videos are cinematic and packed with depth. Thanks for striving for excellence! God bless you and your family!

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing this. Love how you put everything together and included your deeply personal experience, it touches home. Keep up the fantastic content and all the best wishes to your mother.

Outstanding video Mort - powerful stuff - thanks for sharing
❤️
I'd love to get this sort of take and introspection on new games in comparison to retro! I'd love to hear your thoughts in another video.
Hmmm…lots to say here, especially since that seems more about playing than collecting. I’m gonna think on that one - thanks for the suggestion!
God bless your mom and you surviving that traumatic event, thank you for the story 😢 I know the feeling ❤
@@Xtrafix2015 thank you 🙌
Short and sweet... tears. Loved this one and very glad to see that your Mum (Mom) is alive and well.
😊❤️
Strong memories of playing Sonic 2 compulsively after my parents split in 1993 lol. When I hear the music from that game it always takes me back to that surreal time.
That’s heavy.
Great Video. I chalk my retro collecting up to acquiring all the things I never had as a kid and of course nostalgia and preservation of the glorious 80s-90s generation of culture.
I hear that a lot as well - I do think just playing games is a part of it
This series has me hooked love your videos on game hunting
I so appreciate you watching!!
What Great Analogy and Perspective about buying emotions and memories. Top Shelf. Good Work.

Great vid dude. Recently started scooping up some old ps2 era games I have a lot of happy memories of. My wallet hurts a little, but getting to have a physical representation of those memories for the rest of my life is so worth it.
That's awesome! What did you pick up?
@@MortsGarage Shadow Hearts Covenant, Grandia 2 and 3, the .hack quadrilogy, Radiata Stories, and some other titles. I've always been a big JRPG fan so I might end up seeking out the whole JRPG library for it eventually :D

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 This belongs in HBO Max great video man, production quality 👌🏽 I loved it! By the way you’re mom is a hero ❤
Much appreciated! Thank you :)
I've heard that more than once. Be safe and thrive on!
Beautiful video, Mort. God bless your mom and your entire family.
You too :)
Morts production value is top notch. Forget game collecting, start story telling or film making
In my dreams! Although, being on set in Spain was a bit like being awake in them :)
I always come for the story. The game hunting is a bonus.
Well done sir.

Thanks Neil! Blessings and health to you and your family as well :)
Thank You for sharing your personal experience =]
Thanks for watching :)
This one is up there with some of your best work Mort. Really great video man.
I agree with your “buying emotions” assessment. I don’t always buy based on nostalgia, but I recently picked up a couple of janky PS1 games that I played a ton of back in high school. They cost too much and don’t hold up *at all*, but being that I haven’t played them since then, the massive nostalgia hit was so worth it…
Also, watching two middle aged men gleefully fumble around with a couple transformers toys brings me joy.
Edit: sorry I forgot to mention, thank you for sharing your moms story, glad she was able to make it out of that 🙏
Appreciate you watching and sharing! Which ps1 games?
@@MortsGarage Tenchu 2, Fighting Force, Pro Skater 1 and payed up pretty good for Silent Hill… 😬
I realize that all these games are pretty much considered classics at this point, but they really don’t hold up all that well today imo lol
But I’ve been feeling a ton of nostalgia for that era of gaming in my life recently, so ultimately it was worth it. Even if it was just for that initial rush of memories playing those games on a small CRT in my bedroom of my parents house back in the day.
Edit: already know I’m going to catch heat for calling those games janky lol
I actually still love those games, flaws and all lol
Such a touching and well put together video that I'm sure resonates with many of us:) Thanks for sharing and Godbless Mamma Dukes as well as your family 🙏
Cheers ❤️
Thanks for sharing this emotional story. And thank your Mom too. I do agree with you. Most of the time I'm seeking out games that I have nostaglia with and it immediately brings back emotions of when I was a kid. Some are games from back in the day that I wished I owned. And some are ones that I used to own and stupidly sold them or traded them in at my local Graywhale or Game Stop. Are you familiar with Graywhale Entertainment Exchange? I think it's a Utah-only shop.
Never heard of it - what kind of a store is it?

The Pokémon vhs is legit. It’s from the gold and silver era which is super uncommon. That’s the second generation of Pokémon so still quite early. Also I looked up psychic surprise and I nearly cried cos it has an episode in it that is so freaking sad called bye bye butterfree. That’s from the first generation of Pokémon. Super fun if you just want something wacky to pop in and watch

Wild!! 😎☀️

that was a heart warming video. Bless Momma-Mort !!! put her in more videos :)
and yep, it's not about the games, it's the memories and emotions. like when I look around my toy room at Batman's and tmnt and Aliens, Predator etc. , It's all about the feeling you get when you're looking at it. and that's what nerd life is all about. I believe happy emotions rewire the brain to where it gives it longevity. never change!
Yes - which then speaks to healing. Does there come a point when we heal that we are ready to move on from the collecting behaviors? Very curious to learn more.
