    5 Year old video and still working wonders for others(including myself)!!! I really appreciate the help buddy and thank you for taking the time to explain everything. You saved me from going straight to the parts store and buying a new starter when it just ended up being clutch pedal stopper. Went from a $200 fix down to a $10 solution!

      Really am I the first? I wouldn't have thought so... this thing was a little trouble to figure out but I got it straight. Now a couple months later it's acting up again but I can hear the relays opening and closing when I turn the key and step on the clutch which it wasn't doing before. This time I think it's the starter or the solenoid. I have to trace the wires again and see what I can find to verify before I start buying parts. 😁👍😁👍😁👍

    Thank you so much for this video. I just bought my 350z three weeks ago and when it didn’t start, I had no clue what it could be. I initially checked the battery and fuse box located under the dashboard. Fortunately, I saw your helpful video and did exactly as you instructed. The car started right up! Thank you for helping me save money, time, and headaches! God Bless You!

    The bad solder connection probably caused the fuse and relay undue voltage. But let's face it. The average person would never figure that out. $2000.00 at the dealer.

    Thanks for this video. I had been having this starting problem and an issue with the brake lights staying on.
    I replaced that rubber bumper on the brake pedal and it fixed the brake light issue and I
    replaced the start relay and it fixed the issue with the starter not cranking. I never knew there was
    a fuse and relay box next to the battery. In my car, I did not have to remove the battery to
    get at the relay. So far so good. It now cranks fine and starts. The clutch pedal bumper thing was fine
    in my car but I have one of them in my tool box just in case it too fails.

      @@willski81r I'm not having those problems... the starter motor was getting weak and cranking very slow. I thought my battery was going but it was just the starter motor, once that was changed out, it cranked over faster than I ever remembered. It had been gradually slowing over the years... lol, never seen one do that. Cam sensors are fine. I put a cheap one in 5 years ago when I had no money, its still there and its still working fine. The original sensor would just crap out when it felt like it, then for a few weeks it would be fine again, then dead for a few weeks. What a nuisance.

    My 2005 350Z wouldn't start in the grocery parking lot. Luckily, there was an auto shop in the plaza a short distance away where I bought a new battery. The guy was nice enuf to install for me and then -- nothing. It clicked once and all the dash lights were on, but no start. Thank heavens for your video!! • @alexpatrick5203

    So I’m a little less than a year and a half late but this video was really helpful. I have an 04 Infiniti g35 and my IPDM looks almost exactly the same. I don’t know if you’ve already figure it out but the reason it had some moisture in it is because the way that Nissan engineers designed the car is that there’s very little drainage in the Battery seat so it tends to clog. This causes water to fill up and it makes the board and wires get wet

    • @alexpatrick5203
      @alexpatrick5203 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the way water run off is directed causes it to flow almost right at the block I believe

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I will have to look in there. The IPDM is also sitting in a place where there's a lot of water flow off the windshield. It's just a lousy design location

  • @retiredandroaming
    @retiredandroaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very useful video,. thanks! I had the identical issue with a slightly different cause that may help others. Exact same symptoms as this video... good battery.... lights/washers/horn/windows/dash lights etc all working, but car starter will not engage. I stripped down the iPDM as in this video but did not find anything wrong except for some very light corrosion on some of the relay pins. Cleaned them up, reassembled the module and re-installed. The car started!!! For 2 days... then it would not start again. I ordered a tested used unit on Ebay, swapped it into my 350z and it worked! For 2 more days! Then, no starting again. Eventually got a good scan tool and it showed a U1000 Canbus fault code and a fault with the ABS module. Took it to the dealer and they found the real root cause was a bad connection on the ground wire from the PCM computer under the dash. They fixed it with no new parts needed. Zero issues since this repair. Hope that helps others trying to trace a non starting 350z if it is not the iPDM module!

    My 2004 350z is struggling to crank over and start at times. Good solid new battery in it. Swapped relay with headlight and both work fine so not looking like a relay. Next I’m going to fully clean the MAF and Throttle body but I doubt that’s causes my start issue. I’m leaning toward needing new spark plugs, a new fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump if it persists to be an issue..

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's struggling to crank, then it's most likely a starter or battery.... or some electrical connection between them. I replaced my starter recently, it was cranking quite slowly and had been getting slower and slower over the years. All of those other things you described don't affect the "cranking over" of the engine. If its not firing, however, then those things may come into play. Hope that helps, and good luck to you!

    Awesome find. I was wondering if you had issues with water or rodents and their "stuff" causing poor drainage just below that module you operated on. I drilled holes in my battery tray and poked a clothes hanger around to loosen up the blockage. There's two holes. One is oval and has a grommet in it and it is on the "shelf" just below the module. The other is inboard of the left battery tray bolt (maybe) or in my case the threads rusted away and the bolt hole is the drain. This area is a haven for rust under the battery tray. No one has made a video yet. Thanks

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No rodents nor birds.... lots of spiders though when the car sits for an extended period of time. Under a battery is typical rust spot for any vehicle, the acid and other chemicals eat the paint, the moisture does the rest! I often toss some baking soda under a battery, that helps slow down the issue! Hope that helps!

      Right above the battery and fuse box is also where they have a connection "coupler" for the windshield wiper fluid tube. My wife had someone from Autozone install her battery and they broke this coupler which causes leaking of windshield wiper fluid ALL over the battery and relays so I'm having to swap everything out. Be careful taking out the battery ! Really poorly designed

    That cold solder on the IPDM was a FACTORY DEFECT! Shit like this pisses me off to no end! I've reflowed many of them. SoldaPullit (sp) and fresh solder and good to go. BTW I was given one of those little battery powered solder thingys years ago and it doesn't heat anything else but the spot you put it on... And that "No User Serviceable Parts Inside". Well for 99.999% of users maybe. I have the Service Manuals for all my cars (some are a stack of phone books a foot thick). I don't know if my dealership hates or loves me but if there's something I can't fix myself I take the books marked to the relevant pages and tell the Service Guy I did *this* and *this* so that leaves *this* damn part under the dash I can't get to without taking the WHOLE DAMN DASH apart!
    A/C on my '05 Grand Prix GT2 failed a few weeks ago and it took them TWO WEEKS to fix it! Everything from the front seats and dash came out to the firewall! Parts hard to get etc. Rented a 2019 Dodge Challenger for a few days (fun car BTW) and because they were taking so long to get MY car fixed they told me to bring the Challenger back and they'd give me a "Courtesy Car" to drive until mine was ready. Freebie? Hell yeah! Buick Encore loaded. Drove it a couple days before I looked under the hood (I do that) and it's a EcoTech FOUR cylinder!
    Repair on the GT2 was over $2000.00! BTW the GT2 has everything but the Supercharger. My '99 GTP HAS the Supercharger. Good for 40 extra horsepower! Those Buick 3.8L V6s are great engines! Think the old turbo Grand Nationals. Timing chain pushrod bullet proof and parts are cheap and easy to find!

    Subbed! I have EXACTLY the same issue! I tried to remove the IPDM module but that last small connector with the two really thick white wires - can't figure out how to remove the connector!!! Any tips would be GREAT as I really, really want to open up that module to check that Pin 25 trace. On that connector, there's a side clip by the look of it, but I tried squeeing the little inner tab and pulling on the block. No way will it come loose! I tried shifting the littel tab outwards (away from the connector block) and it still won't come out. HELP!!!!!

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First, thanks so much for joining us! But it's a little hard for me to see without taking mine apart again. If I remember I removed it with bare hands, but sometimes on some of those clips you can squeeze them with needle-nose pliers to help you along. Don't pull on the harness too hard, sometimes the blades will pull out of the connectors and you have a mess to fix. Send me some pictures through the social media links on my website, I'll see what I can do to help you further!

    Hey, I’m having a similar problem here with my 04 Z. So it does the same thing where all the lights light up and it just clicks when you try to start it (no crank). However, sometimes it does turn on and sometimes it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t you have to wait for like an hour for it to turn on again. I was wondering if you have any idea of what the problem could be. I’m guessing the starter, i talked to my dad and he thinks it might be something electrical. I replaced the fuses but nothing changed, I didn’t replace the relays tho because I feel if it were to be the relays the car wouldn’t want to start at all, unless I’m wrong. Can the relays work intermittently? Any comment will help thanks

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes relays can work intermittently, that's actually something I was experiencing just last week. Sometimes just wiggling them in their socket is enough to make it start. But as you saw in this video you can swap out your starter relay with your high beam relay and see if that makes a difference. If your starter starts working and the high beams begin acting up then it was definitely a bad relay! Good luck, let me know what happens!

      Not really, everything felt quite normal to me... I do have to replace the clutch fluid line though, the pedal doesn't always bounce back as it should, a symptom of a stretched out line. I have a braided one here waiting for me!

      That's why it has been raining here for a week, it took a half circle around Pensacola.... we've only got in the rain on again off again, but almost no wind at all.

      @@DuckmanCycles Sounds like you got lucky then. Glad you were able to get Ol Blue fixed though. That would've driven me up a goddamned wall haha. I'm actually surprised with my car having 212k miles on it, she's been fairly trouble free. Knock on wood it stays that way.

      Yep, lucky, it was a Louisiana storm, but we still got a week of rain out of it.

    Did you have any oil pressure readings when it wouldn’t start? I’m having this issue but I am getting no oil pressure reading

      Can't tell, everything on the dash flickers and bounces all around when starting... and that is normal!

    Hey my car has power but won’t turn to the acc/on position I have new battery and checked all fuses etc

      Check the ignition relay first, swap it with the one from your high beams. Free test. If that's not it, possibly the ignition switch is bad. Lastly, it not anything else, then wiring!

    What if there’s a rapid clicking noise coming from the ipdm relays or box after I stop cranking the car. It’s cranking but not starting. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT !!

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rapid clicking when you try to start it is usually the battery, but you say this happens after you try to start it and it cranks and doesn't run? So you let go of the key... and lots of clicking?
